frumentius: They wear all sorts of uniforms and train with all sorts of materiel depending on what level of the Training Cycle they're on. It's public info that SASFB training includes "Pseudo-opps" and impersonating other militaries; all decent SF do this.
We fortunately have the population and linguistic diversity to do it properly. Yeah....training on foreign weapons, tactics etc is generally common knowledge. Guess I just got caught up as to why only BDF in those pics. Thanks :-) |

frumentius: I really hope all these guys on this Insta account come through the Basic Training Cycle. They're not Recce operators yet - they passed Selection yes, but the Basic Training Cycle is 57 weeks of weekly tests where one can be dropped at any time. All the more reason SANDF social media policy has to be updated so there's no need for such private initiative. Personally, I think any soldier who presents himself for Selection is mature enough to discern what/not to share online. The Advanced Training Cycle, of course, should remain off-limits, not to mention actual ops, however innocuous. Someone is bound to ask why they often wear Botswana Defence Force uniforms. Do you have a nice, well rounded, "makes sense", answer? Or are we left to guess. |

My only real comment on this issue... Some people on here said SANDF should have gone into Zim (less than 36 hours after the thing had started) to capture/kill the guy on the right, in order to save the guy on the left? Hmmm . Do you not feel foolish? Your fingers just couldn't help but try find anything negative to point out. At this point, how many SANDF, ZDF and Zimbabwean citizens would be dead....over these two smiling together? Was it impossible to just say let's wait & see...give it a week? Would even the mighty U.S Army enter a country on mass (where a suprise coup has occured) in under 36 hours? But anyways...

newafricaken254: so your saying they have failed and what is your point !? "Zimbabwe military chief was in china last week,How strange! " This implies China has something to do with it. If China has anything to do with it, it wasn't planned a week ago. So there's nothing strange in your "how strange!" |

newafricaken254: Zimbabwe military chief was in china last week,How strange!
A trip to Beijing last week by Zimbabwe’s military chief was a “normal military exchange”, China’s Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday, after the military in the southern African nation seized power. Zimbabwe’s military took control targeting “criminals” around President Robert Mugabe but gave assurances on national television that the 93-year-old leader and his family were “safe and sound”. General Constantino Chiwenga met Chinese Defence Minister Chang Wanquan in Beijing on Friday, where Chang expressed a willingness to promote relations with Zimbabwe, China’s Defence Ministry said in a short statement last week. The ministry showed a picture of the two men, both wearing military uniform, shaking hands, and another one of officers from both countries sitting opposite each other holding a meeting at the People’s Liberation Army headquarters in Beijing. Asked whether Chiwenga had briefed China on plans to seize power, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said the Defence Ministry had already released information about his trip and that he didn’t have an understanding about the specifics of his reception in China. “I can only tell you that his visit to China this time was a normal military exchange mutually agreed upon by China and Zimbabwe,” Geng said, referring other questions to the Defence Ministry, which has yet to respond to a request for comment. “As a country that is friendly with Zimbabwe, we are paying close attention to developments of the situation in Zimbabwe,” Geng added. link http://www.businessdailyafrica.com/news/Zimbabwe-military-chief-China-trip-normal-visit/539546-4187684-7vmgeb/index.html Not even the most haphazard, backyard coup is plotted over a week. And in this day and age, if information/orders needed to be passed by China he didn't have to be physically there. Plenty of covert ways. Hell they were even sending ravens in Game of Thrones, no need to ride to Castle Black . |

New "mobility packages" for SANDF border patrol. "Apart from Joint Operations, input for development was supplied by the Logistics and Signals formations as well as the SA Military Health Service (SAMHS) and the defence, peace, safety and security division of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The national research and development organisation was involved in the development of the roll cage and improving stability to make it more user friendly in the tough off-road conditions of border protection" Government twitter page released some pics today. Timing couldn't be worse . Most South Africans are clueless about SANDF, so when they see a government tweet about SANDF mixed with what is happening in Zimbabwe....panic .

Extract from Armscor 2016/2017 Annual Report...
Provide a light-weight exercise torpedo demonstrator -
A development plan for a lightweight exercise torpedo for the SAN has been compiled. Based on this plan, development of this torpedo has started as part of an effort to revitalise anti-submarine warfare within the Frigate Squadron, in support of the Director Fleet Quality Assurance.
IMT successfully launched the lightweight drill torpedoes. This trial was performed using the reconditioned twin tube launcher manufactured by IMT. The launcher will be installed on a frigate to perform launches of the lightweight exercise torpedo.

SupremeCourt: As a South African, you always want to have the last word in any argument so you can sleep well at night. You guys never grow up. Baby adults! You are being forced at gunpoint not to type anything further? You are more than welcome to continue typing and have "the last word". The irony in your comment is that is sounds like something written by a " baby adult". Keep typing my man, no one is stopping you, have your last word.....stop crying. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by ssaengine: 5:27am On Nov 11, 2017 |
SupremeCourt: You think like a baby. Why would defence items be sold in local civilian radio shop? There are thousands of spare part manufacturers in European defence industry that can supply parts. Signal reciever is in the EU ot USA open market.
Most South African made defence products are loaded with imported made in Europe component parts, but you guys hide those facts and push stories to us as if you make everything. Your Rooivalk is loaded with mostly French parts from engine to whatever. The passive radar you are building, go deep into it and you will find one European technical partner giving South Africa high tech help to do it. Like Your ARHLAC aircraft is mostly built by Boeing company of USA selling high tech parts and teaching South Africa how to build. Yet you guys noise about all these things as if you do it 100%.
Half truth is equal to half lie. Simple question....that you failed to answer. What is this "signal receiver" that makes passive radar so easy? You do not know. The rest of your paragraph is useless. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by ssaengine: 3:07pm On Nov 10, 2017 |
SupremeCourt: Swollen ego blinded you from seeing your own quote that said....however, passive radar only needs a signal receiver to work ....I did not make it look easy, your own story did it !
We dont have to copycat you, we chose to build a multirole light utility aircraft with radar inside it. Different strokes for different folks. So you don't actually have any technical idea of what "easy" is? What exactly is this "signal receiver"? Can I buy it from my local radio shop? Useless comment. No one asked you to copycat us. No one cares. It's what South Africa chooses to do. Others can do whatever they want. I only replied to your comment to remind you how st***d you are, in case you forgot. Have a good day. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by ssaengine: 1:25pm On Nov 10, 2017 |
SupremeCourt: Its the easiest to build, does not mean its easy to build. It means among all radars its the easiest radar to build. People from your part of Africa have a thinking problem and bark like a bingo over simple observations people make online. Aha....that's what your comment was about, a simple genuine observation. GTFOH. Your comment wasn't aimed at educating anyone. It was trying to tell people what they don't have, when you yourself can't even begin to have what those that don't have have. I'll give you a few hours to understand what I just wrote. |
