Frumentum: Which one do you want, Milan or Ingwe IPLS? Just kidding...don't want to get into trouble again. They'll allow the configuration to be exhibited at some point; look how long it took them before the public could see the Scorpion Mortar System. Lol...I asked because I knew its a sensitive topic. So come 2019-2020, this thread can expect hot new pics. |

lionel4power: there is no known confirmed kill for S-300 so far. Even Russia doesnt brag about its efficacy. The media has overhyped the S-300. There's also no known F-22 kills. And a bazillion other systems. So that's not a good measure. |

Odunayaw: Why didn't they place the cameras under the fuselage instead of the wings. But the specs are very impressive. SANDF plans to order? When pointing the sensors forward (camera, IR etc) the spinning propeller would cause distortion if placed under the fuselage. That's why most drones use pusher/rear propellers (okay well that's one of the main reasons). No orders from SANDF. SANDF ordered a couple Seeker 400's. If SAAF place an order, will most likely come from Denel.

Too bad about these guys. Had already tested a small scale engine I believe and were busy with component design. Guess the money just ran out, and SA government wasn't exactly supporting either.

jakeporeshenko: Personally do you guys approve of this ? South Africa and Iran have had very close relations over the years. We were one of a handful of countries to vote against their sanctions. I believe we even stopped buying crude oil from them at the very last possible moment. Hence if no one else was to go out of their way to block transactions, huge military deals are in the pipeline between SA and Iran. I personally approve of it. Our military co-operation with Israel died a long time ago, so they can go jump. |

newafricaken254: SAfrica's Zuma in Talks to Sell Most of Denel to Qatar, STimes
South Africa is in talks with Qatar to sell a majority stake in its arms manufacturer Denel SOC Ltd. to the Gulf country, the Sunday Times reported, citing a source it didn’t identify.
President Jacob Zuma is also seeking to sell portions of other struggling state-owned enterprises, including power utility Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd. and South African Airways SOC Ltd., the newspaper said. The Department of Public Enterprises, which would need to approve the transaction, did not immediately respond to Bloomberg’s requests for comment.
Denel was among state entities bailed out this year to prevent a call on its government-guaranteed debt. This list includes South African Airways, the South African Post Office and the South African Broadcasting Corp. which all may require further intervention, the National Treasury said in its mid-term budget report.
Qatar’s Defense Minister Khalid Bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah is believed to have discussed the proposed acquisition with Zuma during a state visit earlier this month, the newspaper said.
A spokesman for the president denied the report. “There was no discussion of the issues” during the minister’s “courtesy call,” Bongani Ngqulunga, a spokesman for the president said in a text message.
Mayihlome Tshwete, a spokesman for National Treasury, says it isn’t aware of any such discussions. He said the treasury has spoken to the Department of Public Enterprises about the matter and the department denies the talks. link https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-11-26/safrica-s-zuma-in-talks-to-sell-most-of-denel-to-qatar-stimes Guarantee not going to happen. The story itself sounds fake. MBDA of Europe once wanted to purchase a majority stake in Denel Dynamics, SA government said no....citing proprietary South African technology. Now we'll sell to Qatar? Almost laughable. |

Frumentum: Had an un-nerving chat with a colleague on the Mid-East desk about the probability of the GCC conflict with Qatar going hot. SA weapons & systems sold to the GCC would be used against SA corporate assets in Qatar. And that's without factoring in the complexities resulting from Denel's active pursuit of sales to Iran - the GCC's sworn enemy.
Truly, we inhabit a mad confusing world.
PICS: Some of the SA weapons & systems sold to the GCC countries and SA corporate assets in Qatar. Sell weapons to both sides. Let them find a nice open field and settle it once and for all. |
