That's abysmal considering....

Note offense
You want a country not at war with anyone, not even publicly arguing with anyone, to have 15+ Gripen hot and ready to takeoff within the next 30 mins? Lmao grin grin

I've never really read through your posts on here, but I always assumed you knew what you were talking about. You would be hard pressed to find any air force not currently involved in operations, with more than 60% of it's fighter fleet ready at any moment.

I think the Germans are even below 50% at the moment.

My question is simply how many airframe can you put in the air as on today, now.
Without preparing, as in right now, I would say that number would be equal the number of Gripen pilots at or near 2 Squadron. So I would estimate 6-8 airframes. With perhaps 48 hour notice...above 15 I would say.

I agree, but within the bracket of HA nonetheless.

Carrying Oxygen in a small bottle with a breathing mask is no big deal. Don't know what the fuss is all about.
It's a big deal for HAHO. Some pilots have passed out from lack of oxygen in the safety of their cockpit. So they definitely won't engineer a system for a jumper just "with a small bottle and breathing mask". He'll be brain dead by the time he reaches the ground if something goes wrong.

Anyways...

Henry240:
Not all high altitude jumps require oxygen. If the jumper is jumping from 18,000 feet, Oxygen is not required.
Hence it wasn't too "HA"

I guess this particular jump wasn't too "HA" without oxygen wink

Some sources say there are around 8 Gripen pilots on base at any given day, with 2 Gripens apparently on 24 hour standby. But number of trained Gripen pilots is more than double that, as some pilots perform other duties at other bases, on different aircraft, then rotated back to 2 Squadron.

So your question can't really have a direct answer. What is "actively" flying? Pilots and airframes rotate.

I really like how the camo scheme looks on the Augusta. Light stripe down the centre visually splits it in two from a far.

Chief, do you know that technically we are talking about the same thing when we talk about ; Contested Airspace, No Flight Zone NFZ, Sky Demilitarize Zone SDZ, Air Exclusion Zone AEZ huh

Now Chief, are you aware that in 2009 Nigerian airspace became a "Air Exclusion Zone" that lasted thru the Under 17 World Cup that was hosted here ? In which no bird could fly without adequate and rigorous permission.

Do you also know that it was same with South Africa during the 2010 FIFA World Cup ?

And do you as well know that it was same with 2012 Olympic in London ?

Now Chief, are you aware that Nigeria has throw in it weight over hosting rights of the next Under 20 FIFA World Cup?

Chief, if you still think that Nigeria ordered the Tucanos only for COIN, then I am afraid sir you have a tunnel vision.
And this tunnel vision is the difference between you here claiming wisdom on Nairaland and the Nigerian Air Force doing the real deal in real life
Good day Chief wink
You are talking about different things. Contested air space is not the same as a no flight zone, although similar. Any foreign air force pilot that accidentally strays too close or into Israeli airspace will have seconds to divert their flight plan, or find out what contested air space means. No flight zones during a World Cup - nope.

I'm aware of 6 whom I know personally so there are dozens who I do not know about.

Plus how many countries have the fund and will go want to start such program ? If we have specialist learning already with expertise in such sector then what we need now is the fund, will and infrastructure then the government can negotiate for the technical know how which includes ToT and human resources to be sent here.
My last point on the matter....having academics and researchers working abroad at specific institutions does not equal having the technical know-how to design, industrialise and manufacture. Writing a thesis on a topic does not mean know-how. You're lying to yourself if you think 4 guys who specialise in radar, means its then possible to design & build radar for an A29 type programme. You would need dozens of radar specialists alone to pull that off. Its a huge task. Then add in flutter analysis, then add in vibration specialists, etc etc....10 years minimum as I say.

Britain sent a whole boat load of nuclear scientists who assisted the US build the 1st atom bomb. When those scientist returned to the U.K, Britain still wasn't able to build a bomb on it's own. It took a considerable further effort to get one that worked.

But anyways, its not impossible for Nigeria. Will just take time. Have a good weekend.

...and to say I know 6 Nigerians who have been working with aselsan turkey on aircraft development and over 15 working on aerospace sectors in China under the federal government sponsor?

These guys I'm talking about finished from AFIT then to crawnfield and now working with Chinese corporations to gain more more knowledge under the sponsor of the Chinese government.

A good look into AFIT website will show you a link of and a particular Nigerian who is also on the Chinese first commercial aircraft development C-919. I saw the link last year and I'll check again.

I even have a PhD student in my school from Pakistan that works with some Chinese team in my school with the development and design of some component for the aircraft.

The Chinese defence sector has a large percentage of its aircraft project and development being done by universities then being passed to AVIC and others.

In short, there are Nigerians with knowledge in the fields you mentioned. Just like our own space project isn't that too big, we have people who have knowledge on such.

Blablablabla, your point is pointless.

I mean no offence so don't reply with ibinu.
I'm sure they are dozens of countries with an even higher number of their citizens in those Chinese institutions, but those countries will still find it difficult to get an A29 type program off the ground. People really do underestimate a large scale engineering project.

6 guys here, two guys there is not enough. If it was the other way around, with Chinese and/or other nationals permanently based in Nigeria with the specific intention of starting such a program it would be a different story.

That's how most countries start such endeavors. e.g Israeli scientists/engineers moving to SA to assist in certain weapons programs in the 80's.
Foreign AffairsRe: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by ssaengine: 11:55am On Jan 26, 2018
Nigeria would have to pull a massive golden rabbit out of its hat in order to convince Russia, China etc to partner in order to produce anything close to A-29. It would take 10 years minimum & cost a whole lot.

What critical aeronautical expertise would you bring to the project? Or rather which part of the project would you call shotgun on? Avionics, radar, weapons release?

It's not impossible, but don't be foo.led just because it's a prop driven aircraft. Such things work if you already have a large base of industry experts in your country working full time on similar projects.

Zoom in behind the Impala... to see it.
This is in fact a highly secretive, SANDF funded project to develop a craft driven by plasma technology. How you came into possession of that image needs to be investigated.

SANDF places small batch order for Denel T5-52

"Denel has revealed that the South African Army will be getting three "artillery platforms," which are almost certainly T5-52 self-propelled howitzers.

This is according to the latest Denel annual financial report which stated that among Denel Land Systems' key highlights for the 2016/17 financial year were "successful client demonstration on the T5 artillery project, followed by three artillery platforms buy-off contract with the SANDF."

Suspect it won't stop at three or even 6 over the next 12-18 months.
