SternProphet: ARA is not a finished product. I am a mechanical engineer.
I also follow automotive and aerospace technology development processes carefully. The fact that prototypes are on display does not mean development is completed and we are ready for production.
I dont even think all Nigerian Army requirements are incorporated yet. When they are incorporated and development is completed, you won't have N.A. buying just 9 vehicles.
If Proforce is going ahead to procure tooling with an order book less than 100 vehicles, they have my sympathy
The Mwari aircraft is also not ready for production yet. Many years ago, wind tunnel testing alone would taje months but i understand that there are CAE/simulation packages now making things cheaper. Mwari would still need some SI work/certification with sensors and weapons. Then someone takes a decision based on orders received before a company can approach a bank to get financing for initial low rate production .
Sorry the real world is complex but so also is banking which looks easy to non bankers until they start talking about the complexities of risk
PS: One thing I find about Nairaland military threads is that only a few people like NemessisXu know the nitty gritty of military technology and how things really work from laboratories to factories. Every other person seems to think technology is just welding stuff together. Thumbs up |

https://www.bbc.com/news/av/science-environment-24331926/world-s-first-digital-laser-unveiled-in-south-africaWorld’s first digital laser unveiled in South Africa"Researchers at South Africa's Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) have unveiled the world's first digital laser. The innovation is regarded as a milestone in laser technology and could spur future laser-related developments. CSIR researcher Sandile Ngcobo conducted the breakthrough experimental work as part of his PhD studies. The laser will allow the scientists to digitally control laser beams and shape new ways of developing technology that will improve various aspects of everyday such as faster broadband and medical advancements." Laser innovation was from 2013. One wonders if a few inquisitive minds at Armscor and Denel have poked their heads at the CSIR to ask if there might be any military applications. Just speaking out loud....

Henry240: You shouldn't be shy to call my name, be a man.
Yes, from the post Lionel4power made, i stand 100% solidly behind my comments.
Back in 2014, the South-Africans laughed at the first Igirigi prototype, just 4 years on and many exports later, we are now a very recognized world class armoured vehicle manufacturer. Today you got that solid right hand that brought you back to reality. I don't know why you get so over excited. You see an LCD in an F-7 and then come running with child-like excitement thinking you can now jump to LUH's. Today was the wake up call you needed. I won't comment on that Igirigi matter & your consistent use of "world class" to seduce yourself, that's fine...deal with it how you need to. But you needed this.

And then when you make a valid point based on sound engineering practices, you get ridiculed. People saying nonsense that you're just jealous of Nigeria.
I invite the original poster (he knows who he is)....does he still believe that the Nigeria Air Force can develop a Light Utility Helicopter "soon"?
If this is what they presented, does he still stand behind his comments? Taking into consideration the time & effort of other LUH programs.
