PoliticsRe: Rivers' Speaker Impeached, Amaechi Storms Assembly As Fight Erupts? by ssii: 6:48pm On Jul 09, 2013
atlwireles: I wonder why most of his distractors are Ikwerre. From Omehia to wike, please ask chibuike to seek what troubles him. he has two years left in power. Where will he run to thenhuh
And most of his supporters are also Ikwerres. Amaechi will not run to anywhere, their goal is to make sure he leaves office before his term expires so that it will be an easy ride for Wike to become governor once Amaechi is out of the way. After 2015, Wike has no problem with Amaechi.

Bensonite: Rhino you are right. I just put a call to friend who works at the assembly complex. The anti-Amaechi group storm the place with thugs but some other assembly members defected to their side making them more than 5 law members( I will try to confirm exact number and names). From what I was told it was attempt to impeach the speaker before the governor stormed the arena to seize the mace. Ordinary the governor should not have done that...maybe he is only trying to save his group.
In all this further polarizes already sectionalized rivers politics and the ordinary man may suffer the set back!
Thank you, you are a good person. All we need is peace and continued development in Rivers. GEJ is from south-south, he is trying and we support and pray that God will help him to do well. But for this, I tell you he's being misled by Wike and PEJ. GEJ needs Rivers to stable and united to pursue his 2015 dream. Wike does not care about that. PEJ is blinded by her hatred for Amaechi. But history will judge everyone. I don't know Amaechi personally, but am impressed by what he has done for the state.

Frank-C:
That report is also saying that it happened yesterday. Something is wrong with the account as people are saying it happened today.

The ongoing crisis in everything Amaechi touches gives him away as a terrible leader. He obviously seem to lack the ability to build, lead and motivate his team. This is only an indictment on his leadership style. From House of Assembly to State commissioner of Police to other Rivers politicians to Nigeria governors forum crisis. He is not doing something right. NGF has had many chairmen who are more alpha male and far more ambitious than Amaechi, why are the issues erupting only during his tenure?
Sorry to ask, do you live in PH? I don't know what you have against Amaechi, but everything you have said is so not true. The on-going crisis was motivated and is being carried out by PEJ and Wike, with the quiet support of the president. What do you describe as bad leadership? The trasnfromation going in Rivers? Or Amaechi's refusal to share the money? Or telling the truth to Wike that he as an Ikwerre can not take over from Amaechi who is also Ikwerre?

Akanbi_edu: You miss the point. State of emergency or whatever may succeed in rendering Amechie helpless but may not prevent chaos that will follow. Years down the line, you people will start spending money again to curb militancy.
Thank you, you just hit the nail on the head. And that is what we are all afraid of. They beginning to recruit them again. We all know how PEJ is pallying with Ateke, a man that unleashed mayhem on Okrika and PH with the help of Sekibo. We have seen enough blood shed in River, we got used to gunshots every now and then. A whole community (Okuru) was sacked while policemen watched. Okrika was a no go area, Amadi-ama people were constantly on the run for their lives, kidnapping was almost an everyday occurrence. Now we have some level of peace, and these enemies of our state are calling back these boys, giving them money to create problems.

slimghost: Whats lawless in an impeachment process? As long as two third of the house decides to that, it is lawful. The lawless one here is Amaechi who disrupted a lawful process. Bloody hypocrite.
Lets continue to say the truth pls, is 5/33 equals to two-third?

McLuhan: Before we get ourselves all agitated and worked up in support of one side or the other, perhaps we should ask ourselves whether it is proper and constitutional for the governor (as head of the executive branch of government) to march into the assembly chambers (of the state legislature) and seize by fiat the symbol of that branch of government, regardless of what situation subsisted in the chambers at that time. In my humble opinion, such an act is in itself an impeachable offence, for it constitutes a usurpation of the duties that belong properly to the serjeant-at-arms, who statutorily custodies the mace and whose duties also include maintaining order and security in the legislative assembly. Even more seriously, the governor's action, if confirmed, amounts to a display of contempt for the legislature, which, according to the law, is by no means inferior to the executive arm. It is just as if a president were to walk into the supreme court while in session and physically drag out the chief justice to prevent him/her from delivering a judgement that the president fears might be unfavourable to him. In quasi-religious terms, I would describe it as an abomination! In legalistic terms, I would call it an impeachable aberration. In ordinary parlance, I would say it is simply not done.
I THINK WE SHOULD FIRST ASK OURSELVES IF IT IS LAWFUL FOR 5 MEMBERS TO IMPEACH A SPEAKER OR GOVERNOR, OR IF IT IS LAWFUL FOR A FIRST LADY WITH THE CORROBORATION OF HER HUSBAND AND A SERVING MINISTER INSIST THAT THE ASSEMBLY SHOULD IMPEACH THEIR GOVERNOR EVEN WHEN THERE IS NO REASON TO.
PoliticsRe: Rivers' Speaker Impeached, Amaechi Storms Assembly As Fight Erupts? by ssii: 6:06pm On Jul 09, 2013
slimghost: The reason is because of his attitude. Amaechi sees himself as a demi-god in Rivers and most of these people find it difficult to have a good relationship with him. He is proud, arrogant and self centered. How can one man be fighting almost all the political heavy-weights in Rivers state? haba!!! Something is wrong with the man.
What about the majority that have a good relationship with Amaechi? So if a man is firm and does not play to the gallery then he is arrogant. Does saying the truth the way it is mean arrogancy. At least with the so-called arrogancy he is performing, he is far better than those lying politicians. Abi arrogancy na impeachable offence All those people listed are not political heavy-weights. Like I said earlier they are all failures who feel that they have seen a good reason to fight the man that won them.

Bensonite: Everyone thought it was going to work keeping Wike at Abuja that was why for the first time Rivers people never protested that governor and minister from same tribe. Wike was instrumental to Amaechi victory but was also a burden to him. He ensures that the governor sign cheques, etc even if He met him on the road- no protocols at all. Wike is a grass root mobilizer and evil at heart but Amaechi attitude contributed to all this wahala. With less talk and more good projects every rivers man would have willingly stood to fight for him .
Meanwhile, the anti- Amaechi group are already drinking and jubilating at todays drama as I write.
Be sincere to yourself, Amaechi has done well, in the area of roads, education, health, youth empowerment, employment etc. I make bold to say, I don't know of any other Rivers governor that has done these much. Do you know how much unemployment has reduced in Rivers state? Do you know how many Rivers youths are outside the contry for undergraduate and postgraduate studies? Do you know how many Rivers youths are in private companies gaining experience for 2 years while being paid stipend by the govt so that they can gain experience to apply for jobs. No governor has employed doctors and teachers like Amaechi has done. A good number of the roads have been recoated, dualised or being worked upon presently. There is virtually no community that has received a project, including that of the first lady and Evans.
They can jubilate and get drunk but they did not succeed and will never suceed in their bid to destabilise this state. Wike can NEVER be governor of Rivers state, no matter how hard he tries.

slimghost: Why did Sekibo leave ACN? because of Tinubu's romance with Amaechi. So WTF are you saying my dear?
Whatever the reason Sekibo left ACN is not the issue here, or are you saying Sekibo's problem with Amaechi is because Amaechis is romancing with Tinubu, would 'nt he rather be happy if the governor wants to join his party? Sekibo wants to be governor, Omehia wants to be governor, Wike wants to be governor, Opara wants to be governor. They should all wait till 2015 before they start fighting over themselves. For goodness sake, Mr Slimghost, as we used to say when we are children, say the truth and let the devil shame. What has Amaechi done to warrant impeachment? Is it lawful for 5 out 32 assembly members to impeach a speaker or the governor. If the other assembly members say we see no reason why Amaechi should be impeached, why is PEJ,GEJ and Wike still insisting he should be impeached? Are they the ones that voted him in? Has Amaechi not performed more than most PDP governors? Is it not right to call them enemies of the state?

http://famouspeoplenews./2013/06/04/ateke-tom-at-war-with-gov-amaechi/

Former warlord – ex-leader of the Niger Delta Vigilance Movement,  Ateke Tom recently  led many protesters on the streets of Port Harcourt ,the Rivers State capital, asking Governor Rotimi Amaechi to resign. Though the protesters however claimed they were not sponsored, sources in the state are presently pointing fingers at the 1st Lady of Nigeria, Mrs. Jonathan, as the brain behind the sponsorship of the protest. Tom Ateke is said to have been aided by the first lady who will be delighted obviously if Amaechi is schemed out the office in the present plot against him. This is a result of the feud between Gov Amaechi and the Jonathans. It’s no longer secret that the first Lady is a not in good terms with the incumbent governor whom she had heated exchanged with on several occasions. The popular amongst their numerous fights was when the 1st Lady forcefully collected microphone from Amaechi. It was at Okrika, Mrs. Jonathan’s hometown, at public function where Amaechi   was a special guest of honour. Governor Amaechi who in his address  was listing some of the good things his government had done to the Okraka community. Gov Amaechi who visited Okrika, told the people of Okrika point-blank, that he would unfailingly demolish the waterfronts, rebuild it and sell to prospective buyers knowing the sensitivity to the issue of the demolition of the waterfronts to the Okrika people
Thank you jare. People should say the truth for goodness sake. Those militants were actually paid ten thousand naira each, they were cooked for. The police commissioner provided protection for them while they blocked the government house.

Billionaires: One thing is certain, Rivers State House will never be the same again and Amaechi has gotten to a point of no return. He cant win this fight as far as he moved to the Legislative assembly to intervene in the scuffles of Legislatures cos of quest for self-preservation.
You can't be so sure of that. Amaechi is also fighting to protect his position. For goodness sake why would 5 lawmakers attempt to impeach the speaker and maybe the governor. GEJ, Wike and PEJ should leave Rivers state alone. They have been distracting our governor, now they want to cause mayhem, they would not succeed.

slimghost: Care to explain why Saint Amaechi is also not in good terms with all these people? Oh, i forgot, they are all pro-Jonathan. SMH
Amaechi does not have any issues with all the people you have listed, the fact that they attended the wedding of Evans Bipi does not mean that they have problems with Amaechi. Besides not everybody would like a person, just as not everyone in PDP agrees with GEJ. For most of these people, they are former political holders who have just found an ally in Wike, people who hate the focused leadership of Amaechi and wants him to share Rivers money for them. Chibudom and Opara are former political office holders who do not want to do any other work than eating from politics, they want Amaechi to share Rivers money for them but Amaechi would not. Opara had contested with Amaechi in the PDP primaries, Chibudom lost in the PDP senatorial primaries.
Don't be deceived, Peter Odili does not have any problems with Amaechi, he is Amaechi's mentor and despite the issues they had when Amaechi was denied his ticket, they have always maintained a cordial relationship. Abiye Sekibo contested under ACN, lost the elections. He is suddenly a PDP man now because he feels he has axe to grind with Amaechi.
Wike clearly wants to be governor, Amaechi has told him it won't be possible because they are from the same tribe. Wike wants to make sure Amaechi is out so that he can easily become governor of Rivers state.
Omehia is still angry that he was removed by the supreme court, he contested again under APGA and lost. Right now he is so broke. These men are yesterday's men who are still waiting to share from the national cake instead of looking for something else to do.
What you should ask is why are 27 out of 32 assembly members behind Amaechi despite all the threats and enticement. How come all the Rivers house of representative members solidly behind Amaechi and 2 out of 3 senators supporting him. Only losers and those with ulterior motives, who do not have the interest of Rivers at heart are fighting Amaechi.

AWKA_MADE_GUN: Amaechi should stop all these rubbish. His desperation is getting out of hand. Well am going to PH tomorrow, we will get to the root of all these madness. If he wants to decamp, he should do so without a fight. As for any SE governor on the same train with Amaechi, he is finished politically.

There is every indication that he is gonna end up in jail, alot of misappropriation and misapplication of funds in Rivers state.
So he should wait and watch PEJ/GEJ remove illegally as governor. Why are you people blaming Amaechi here, Goodluck that has enjoyed the goodwill of nigerians is allowing himself to pushed by his wife and wike to illegally remove Amaechi with 5 members of the house. Rivers state has been peaceful all this while, all these politicians who out of desperation want to take control of Rivers have started causing chaos.
PoliticsRe: Leave PDP Now And Let Us Meet At The Election: Wike Dares Amaechi by ssii: 8:55pm On Jul 06, 2013
Sincere 9gerian: He wanted to greet the president with his four commissioners and four chairmen of council. That is the humiliation he wanted Mr. President to suffer. The president of a country is passing an area, what you do was to bring four commissioners and four chairmen to receive the president. Some of them were wearing jeans to receive Mr. President. Then when Mr. President was to now shake hands with people, he told Mr. President that these people for security reasons should be avoided and I said “no, these are state party officers, you are the leader of PDP you must shake the party officers”. They said he should not shake some people’s hands for security reason and Mr. President said, “just forget it, they are all Rivers people” and went and now shook hands with everybody. Of course, he got angry and left;he left before Mr. President left.

What also angered Amaechi this way was because he has no party; he does not have the party structure. I have started fasting that he should leave PDP. Let him leave now and let us meet at the election.

Q: So what is being done to restore peace in the state?

A: We are not quarrelling; these are political things going on. You know they say we are Abuja politician but I am always home every week, they come to Abuja too, we are in Abuja, they call us Abuja politicians meanwhile no of them can conveniently win their wards; I can tell you few who can win their wards. I’m a minister today, I’m not in competition with anybody. I need to tap from what you have and add to my own and be a better minister. PDP is carrying out a lot of massive mobilisation. People are yearning for a new Rivers State. Those of them who are with Amaechi now, who wants to be governor, when this goes tomorrow, the other person will go and mobilize his own ethnic group to go and pay the governor a solidarity visit stating that they are with him, that any day he leaves they would leave the party. Rivers State will be a masterpiece of 2015; you will know that money does not work in everything.

We already have a new Rivers state, Rivers state is already a masterpiece under Amaechi. We don't want you as governor,,you will not do better than Amaechi. This Wike sef. Who is he deceiving? Its only GEJ/PEJ and expired politicians that would fall for his antics. Like seriously, after working for and with Amaechi like he said, he would be drinking panadol for Jonathan's headache, fighting Amaechi with everything he has because according to him, Amaechi is disrespectful to GEJ. Is that how to treat a friend who you feel is doing something wrong? Really, he loves GEJ that much? Abi GEJ is too weak to fight for himself. Abegi, the man is desperate for Amaechi to leave PDP so that it will be a smooth ride for him to contest. These politicians lie more than the devil himself. Wike that declared not too long ago that there is no zoning in Rivers PDP, and Amaechi being Ikwerre does not stop him (Wike) from taking over.
I pity GEJ really, he does not have full support from the north and south west, yet he is allowing this power hungry man to destroy PDP in Rivers. Minister of state will not remain in Abuja to do his work, no wonder ASUU is on strike, nothing to write home about the education ministry.

As a politican, what we expect him to do is to appeal the case that brought in Felix Obuah while still working with him until hie appeal is heard. He cannot begin to fight and scatter the PDP because of a court case. Now again, Amaechi has gone to the courts to stop an impending probe.....why?
When did PDP start probing their party members in office. We all know that Amaechi has done well for his state, how many other PDP governors have done what he has done. But this is just witch hunting, an avenue to spite him. The party has no right to probe him, we the masses voted for him. And no right thinking person in Rivers state will tell you Amaechi has not tried. Besides, they have suspended him from their party, why do they want to probe him. Amaechi is not scattering PDP, rather Wike is.

Why are they still borrowing despite all the oil money. God deliver us, OBJ has paid off some. GEJ is borrowing. These people are destroying our economy and selling off the future of our children. How are they going to pay off all these debts? If they manage what comes in judiciously, we won't be borrowing this way. Enough of wastage and looting, enough of corruption in this country. Bakare was right, GEJ would drive this country into bankruptcy if we are not careful.

What about the senators and house of Reps members from Rivers who are solidly behind Amaechi? Are they also in APC? Wike and his likes are destroying PDP in Rivers state because he wants to be governor by all means. Amaechi can decide to leave PDP tomorrow if the conditions are not right for him, he has every right to. But what are the intentions of this visit? Is it not to fuel the embers of the face off between GEJ and Amaechi. Does it make sense that a committee has been set up to settle the differences and reconcile the factions in PDP, even the PDP governors are trying to bring about a reconciliation, then an appointed minister and his party chairman will go the president to work against their reconciliation. You think Wike is concerned about GEJ returning in 2015, Wike is concerned about his gubernatorial ambition. GEJ needs PDP to be united in Rivers to get the full support he needs from south south.

These are the people fomenting trouble in Rivers state. Wike's inordinate ambition to become governor after Amaechi is the real crux of these problems. He has capitalized on the differences between GEJ and Amaechi to put his stooge (Obuah) as PDP chairman without elections. They have sensed that GEJ and Amaechi may reconcile, especially the way they were ignored at the airport by GEJ, so they are back again to GEJ to run down the governor ( this time openly )and act as though they mean well for GEJ/PEJ. GEJ should be careful of Wike and his cohorts, they are just massaging his ego because they want to take charge of Rivers state. He is a man and the president of this country, he should not allow himself to be used and fooled by these shameless, greedy politicians from Rivers state. Apparently PEJ is already fooled by the antics of Wike.

Good for Wike, he is the real problem in all this political brouhaha. The same way he was dancing all over the state with PEJ the last time she visited. Wike is the real traitor, served as chief of staff and Campaign manager to Amaachi, nominated as a minister by Amaechi. Yet, he could fight him so dirty because of his political ambition of becoming governor. If Wike can do this to Amaechi, I bet he can do it to GEJ/PEJ if the situation permits. The ealier that GEJ/PEJ realise Wike is pursuing his own personal agenda and not their agenda, the better for them

HealthOmega-3 In Fish May Reduce Breast Cancer Risk by ssii(op): 9:32am On Jun 28, 2013
Omega-3 in Fish May Reduce Breast Cancer Risk
A large review of studies concludes that women who consume more omega-3 fatty acids by eating fish were at a lower risk of having breast cancer.

The researchers in China analyzed the results of 26 international studies involving almost 900,000 women, including 20,000 who had breast cancer. The scientists found that those women who had the consumed the highest levels of omega-3 fatty acids from fish were 14 percent less likely to have breast cancer, compared with those who ate the least.

The results also showed what researchers call a dose-response relationship: each 0.1-gram increase in omega-3 per day was linked with a 5 percent lower risk of having breast cancer. For comparison, a serving of an oily fish such as salmon contains about 4 grams of omega-3 fatty acids. Oily fish are those that have high concentrations of omega-3.

Consuming the type of omega-3 found in plants, however, did not appear to reduce the risk.

Omega-3 fatty acids, a type of polyunsaturated fat, have been touted for years for their potential benefits in preventing heart disease and cancer. But not all studies have been able to confirm these claims.

Researchers who conducted a large review of 48 studiesin 2009 concluded that it was not clear whether consuming omega-3 fats, in either the diet or by taking supplements, changed a person's risk of heart problems or cancer. However, those reviewers also said that there wasn't enough evidence to recommend that people should stop eating foods that are rich sources of omega-3.

Other studies have suggested that it's not just the amount of omega-3 that one consumes that matters —the ratio of omega-3s to other fatty acids in foods is important, too. In a 2002 review study, researchers found that women who consumed a balanced ratio of omega-3s to omega-6s (an unhealthy type of fat) were less likely to develop breast cancer.

In the new analysis, researchers looked at studies that measured omega-3 intake in two different ways; either by measuring omega-3 levels with blood tests, or by assessing how much fish people ate.

When looking only at studies that assessed fish diet, the researchers found there was not a significant relationship between eating fish and reduced risk of breast cancer. However, in Asian populations, fish intake did tend to be linked to a lower breast cancer risk, compared with Western populations.

The researchers said perhaps fish intake in Western populations is too low to detect a protective effect against breast cancer.

Other factors may have influenced the findings, too, including differences between sources of omega-3, the researchers said. It is not clear whether eating fish and taking omega-3 supplements have equal benefits.

It is possible too, that other compounds found in fish, such as pesticides and heavy metals from environmental pollution, may reduce the protective effects of omega-3, they said.

The study is published today (June 27) in the British Medical Journal.

You people have ruled for over 40 years, what did we gain from you? What has any northern leader done for their states? GEJ in the last 2 years has outdone what your leaders did in 30 years and you are here talking trash! Go and see the work going on inthe east west road! Go and see the law school in Bayelsa and the University! Go and see all the youths that were train within and outside the country through the amnesty program! Go and see the revived Ajaokuta to Aladja rail track! Go and see etc, etc and come back here to tell me to support a northerner to come back to power after they have destroyed the country and run it to the ground. You tribalistic people will be calling others tribalistic. Isnt that an irony? Isnt it tribalism for you to even suggest it is your turn to rule? Why didnt you say the best man should rule? You praised Amaechi for being a good gov, so why not offer him the presidential slot for APC? Why ask him to be vice presidential candidate to a mallam who performed less than him? Does that make any sense? If Amaechi has done more than most PDP governors, why should he be a vice presidential candidate to any of them? You are a confused chap. Go back and read your books my friend!
There is no need for insults okay. FYI, am from niger delta not north as you assume, but am open-minded and not tribalistic. I don't care what tribe rules as long as we get credible leaders. All we need now is change, which is what GEJ promised but unfortunately we are yet to see. That east-west road, started in Yaradua's time was abandoned, work only resumed because Amaechi spoke. I ply that road every week, work is still very slow and most parts of the road are yet to be done. The youths on amnesty programme, are they not the same ones they recruiting again t as political thugs? Also remember that the amnesty programme was started by Yaradua. I don't care whether GEJ comes back again in 2015 or not, I believe in fairness and integrity. If he promised one term in a bid to get the northern support, he should be a man of his words. Secondly,he should leave my governor alone because everybody has a right to contest just like him.
