Christianity EtcRe: Is Soccer(football) an idol? by staggerman(m): 3:35am On Aug 30, 2013
Stop digging for condemnation in the life of Redeemed BLOOD-BOUGHT, sanctified, justified and perfected SONS OF GOD.

How do you feel when you find a partner to marry? How do you feel when planning for your marriage? How do you feel when your spouse has done something terrible to offend you?

How do you feel when your wife has just delivered a baby safely? how would you feel if you lost a member of your family?

How do you feel when you are employed in a major oil company? How do you feel when you are sacked from your job?

The expression of emotions is a normal thing. Even God expresses emotions.

We live on earth and relate with physical issues. It is normal to express emotion over issues that affect us positively or negatively.

Stop trying to make a sermon over vain philosophies. Are you trying to get people to start acting like robots without feelings?

Spirituality is not based on how you act, smile, talk or frown. It's a measure of your selfless service to mankind, whether they deserve it or not. Learn from Jesus Christ

If your message seeks to expose sin in the SAINT instead of revealing the SON in the SAINT, then your message is a doctrine of men by the wisdom of the devil.
Foreign AffairsRe: 10 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Nelson Mandela by staggerman(op): 9:08am On Aug 29, 2013
We need more people like Mandela, especially in politics.

We need the "Mandela-spirit". The willingness to sacrifice for the benefit of the common man. The desire to enter into politics for the purpose of humbly serving others, and not to be served by others.
Foreign Affairs10 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Nelson Mandela by staggerman(op):
1. Mandela’s tribal nickname is “Rolihlahla,” meaning “Troublemaker.”
Other accounts translate Rolihlalhla to mean “to pull a branch from a tree,” which, of course, is something only a troublemaker would do. It was his teacher, Miss Mdingane, who gave him the English name “Nelson,” much to the reliefof journalists everywhere when he became famous.

2. Mandela was expelled from university after less than a year.
After finishing boarding school, Mandela headed to Fort Hare Missionary College. Less than 12 months later, he was expelled from college for helping to organize a strike against the white colonial rule of the institution. One might call this foreshadowing.

3. The United Nations decreed his birthday as Mandela Day.
In 2009, the U.N. declared Mandela’s birthday, July 18, as Mandela Day to mark his contribution to world freedom. The holiday calls on individuals to donate 67 minutes to doing something for others, reflecting the 67 years that Mandela had been a part of the anti-apartheid movement.

4. Mandela is often referred to as Madiba, his Xhosa clan name
Mandela is a member of the Thembu, a Xhosa clan, and is often referred to by his clan name, Madiba. It is a sign of the incredible diversity of people and languages in South Africa. The country has 11 different official languages.

5. Mandela’s father had four wives, and Nelson is one of 13 children.
Mandela’s father, a local chief and councellor to the Thembu king, died from tuberculosis when his son was 9. Before that, he fathered 13 children by four wives, four boys and nine girls. After his father’s death, Mandela was put under the guardianship of Jongintaba, the Thembu regent.

6. Mandela has received more than 250 awards for his accomplishments.
Among these awards is the shared 1993 Nobel Peace Prize with F.W. de Klerk, the last president of the apartheid government of South Africa (he too is widely credited as an instrumental force in ending apartheid). Additionally, Mandela has received more than 50 honorary degrees from international universities worldwide, became the first honorary Canadian citizen in 2001, and received the last Lenin Peace Prize from the Soviet Union.

7. Stevie Wonder dedicated his 1985 Oscar for “I Just Called to Say I Love You” to Mandela.
After Stevie accepted his award in honor of Nelson Mandela, the government-owned South African Broadcasting Corporation banned Stevie’s music from the airways. It wasn’t until Mandela was elected in 1994 that Stevie was finally allowed back in South Africa.

8. Mandela outlived his two oldest sons.
Mandela had six children, but tragically lost his two oldest sons. Thembi died in a car crash at age 25. Mandela was in prison at the time of the death and was unable to attend the funeral. Another son died of AIDS in 2005 at age 54. While Mandela’s administration was criticized for not doing enough to fight the AIDS epidemic in South Africa, he established the Nelson Mandela Foundation in 1999 following his retirement to help fight the spread of AIDS.

9. Mandela ran away from home at age of 19.
When his guardian tried to arrange a marriage, Mandela ran away from home in 1941 and headed to Johannesburg. He began to work as a night watchman at Crown Mines, but was fired after it was discovered that he was the Thembu regent’s runaway.

10. Mandela spent his first night after being freed from prison in Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu’s home.
Tutu had his helpers prepare his own favorite meal of chicken curry, rice and green salad, followed by rum raisin ice cream and custard.

Sunday School Topic: Love. 14th July 2013
Text: John 13:34-35
Memory Verse: Rom 13:10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. NKJV

Love to both God and man is fundamental to true religion, whether as expressed in the Old Testament or the New Testament. Jesus Himself declared that all the law and the prophets hang upon love (Matt 22:40; Mark 12:28-34). Paul, in his matchless ode on love (1 Cor 13), makes it the greatest of the graces of the Christian life-greater than speaking with tongues, or the gift of prophecy, or the possession of a faith of superior excellence; for without love all these gifts and graces, desirable and useful as they are in themselves, are as nothing, certainly of no permanent value in the sight of God.

Not that either Jesus or Paul underestimates the faith from which all the graces proceed, for this grace is recognized as fundamental in all God's dealings with man and man's dealings with God (John 6:28 f; Heb 11:6); but both alike count that faith as but idle and worthless belief that does not manifest itself in love to both God and man. As love is the highest expression of God and His relation to mankind, so it must be the highest expression of man's relation to his Maker and to his fellow-man.

Love activates faith (Gal 5:6) and we are commanded to Love God (Deut 6:4,5; 10:12; 11:1; Mt 22:37), our neighbors (Mt 22:39), strangers (Dt 10:19), our enemies (Mt 5:44; Lk 6:27,35) and fellow saints (Eph 1:15; 1Pet 3:cool
We can only change the world through love and not through condemnation because love does not count evil but covers the all sin (Prov 10:12; 17:9). A heart of love will draw favor from God and men.
As God’s ambassadors in reconciling the world to Himself, our job is to provide every man perfect, holy and righteous in Him, and this can only be accomplished through acts of love.

CONCLUSION
Begin to share the love of God that is shed abroad in your heart. Love in deed, not just in words. Let your neighbors, friends, family and even your enemies know that you love them in a new and refreshing way from today.

Sunday School Topic: Manifestation Of The Sons Of God. 8th July 2013
Text: Col 1:25-28
Memory Verse: Rom 8:19 For all creation, gazing eagerly as if with outstretched neck, is waiting and longing to see the manifestation of the sons of God. (Weymouth)

According to the first chapter of Genesis, God made man in His own image, possessing His nature and characteristics. A look around the world today expresses man’s dominance and control over the physical earth. There is however much ground to cover in dominating the earth spiritually.
Man ought to function as a Son of God, just as Christ did when He walked on earth. His attitude towards men, circumstances, nature and demons is an example for all men to follow. Christ unveiled the true nature of Man which was hidden by ages of unbelief, sin, and the dominance of wrong teachings and philosophy of men.

As Sons of God, we should emulate Christ in revealing the true nature of the Sons of God, which is the same as the nature of God.
We manifest God’s nature through the following:

• Love: 1 Jn 4:7. God is Love and He acts based on His everlasting love. Our nature should reflect His nature. We love because God loves.

• Power: Gen 1:28; Matt 28:19; Luke 10:19. God gave man power to have dominion over all the earth, and over every living thing upon the earth. As we function in Christ’s authority, we are able to rule over all circumstances, demons and conditions.

• Fellowship: 1 Cor 1:9; 1 Jn 1:3. God has fellowship in Heaven, and so also are the Sons of God required to have fellowship on earth. We are now in God’s family. It is no longer just a Trinity. It is Father, Son, Holy Spirit, and Church (which is the body of Christ).
Conclusion

As we manifest the nature of God on earth, we bring Heaven to earth and we bring all things under the dominion of the Resurrection. For as Christ is the first begotten from the dead, so also have we been raised to newness of life. Walk therefore in this revelation and dominate your world.

Sunday School Topic: Discipleship 30th June 2013
Text: John 8:30-32
Memory Verse: Matt 28:19 Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, (CEV)

A disciple is a committed follower of a leader or teacher.
Discipleship is the process of making or becoming disciples.
The ministry of Jesus was centered on making men like Himself through discipleship. His teachings, miracles, healings, death, resurrection and ascension were all geared towards making men like him.
Jesus never preached on being “born again” In the third chapter of John, He talked to Nicodemus about the spiritual birth compared to the natural birth, but He never taught or preached to the people about being “born again.”
Jesus said that we are to make disciples, followers of Christ. When we ask people to accept Jesus as their Savior, we need to teach them that this is a total commitment of one’s life to the Lord. It means becoming a disciple of Jesus.

Jesus’ attitude toward evangelism is much different than that of most Christians. Jesus is more concerned with the quality of ministry than the quantity.
People often say that if you know the truth, the truth will set you free. That is not correct. More correctly, Jesus says that when you continue in the Word, then you will know the truth, and the truth you know sets you free. Jesus knew that only those who became disciples would truly become free. (John 8:30-32)

Importance of discipleship includes:
1. Discipleship positions us for our prosperity, e.g.:
Abraham and Lot: Gen 12:1-5; Gen 13:1, 2, 5
2. Empowers and equips men for service and promotion, e.g.:
David and his mighty men: 1 Sam 22:1-2; 2 Sam 23:7-21
3. Prepares men for continuity in leadership and ministry, e.g.;
Elijah and Elisha: 2 Kings 3:11; 1 Kings 19:16-21
Moses and Joshua: Ex 24:13; Ex 33:11; 18, 19, 22, 23; Deut 34:9; Josh 1:1-5
4. It is God’s earnest desire for all men to be like Christ:
Eph 4:12, 13, 15; Rom 8:29; Rom12:2; Eph 4:23; Phill 2:5
Conclusion
What we ought to be preaching is that God calls us into discipleship, and it begins with making a commitment to the Lord. If we understood that and acted on it, we would have much greater success evangelizing the world.

Some years ago, a woman claimed that her houseboy stole money from under her pillow. She raised alarm and several young boys rounded up the young boy and began to torture him, forcing him to confess and return the money. He was beaten and stripped unclad. Flogged like a criminal and began to bleed from several parts of his body including his head. With blood gushing from a crack in his skull, and from cuts on his flesh, he maintained his confession of innocence over the allegation,
Not satisfied with his explanation, the group of men poured kerosene over his body, causing his pain to increase. They threatened to burn him. He cried, but all pleas fell on deaf ears.
When they couldn't force him to admit to the crime, they finally left him after several hours of severe torture and humiliation.

That same evening, the woman found her money inside her hand bag. She had kept it there the previous night and had forgotten. She felt bad and tried to call back the young boy. But the deed had been done. AN innocent man had suffered for a crime he did not commit.

I witnessed it all.
The woman was our neighbor.

Definition of Torture

Any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person for such purposes as obtaining from him or a third person, information or a confession, punishing him for an act he or a third person has committed or is suspected of having committed, or intimidating or coercing him or a third person, or for any reason based on discrimination of any kind, when such pain or suffering is inflicted by or at the instigation of or with the consent or acquiescence of a public official or other person acting in an official capacity. It does not include pain or suffering arising only from, inherent in or incidental to lawful sanctions.

— Convention Against Torture, Article 1.1
Nairaland GeneralRe: Is It Right To Torture Anyone? by staggerman(op):
The Covenant follows the structure of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), with a preamble and 33 articles, divided into three parts:

Part I defines torture, and commits parties to taking effective measures to prevent any act of torture in any territory under their jurisdiction. These include ensuring that torture is a criminal offense, establishing jurisdiction over acts of torture committed by or against a party's citizens, ensuring that torture is an extraditable offense, and establishing universal jurisdiction to try cases of torture where an alleged torturer cannot be extradited. Parties must promptly investigate any allegation of torture, and victims of torture must have an enforceable right to compensation. Parties must also ban the use of evidence produced by torture in their courts, and are barred from deporting, extraditing or refouling people where there are substantial grounds for believing they will be tortured.

Parties are also obliged to prevent other acts of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, and to investigate any allegation of such treatment within their jurisdiction.

Part II governs reporting and monitoring of the Convention and the steps taken by the parties to implement it. It establishes the Committee against Torture, and empowers it to investigate allegations of systematic torture. It also establishes an optional dispute-resolution mechanism between parties and allows parties to recognize the competence of the Committee to hear complaints from individuals about violations of the Convention by a party .

Article 2 of the convention prohibits torture, and requires parties to take effective measures to prevent it in any territory under its jurisdiction. This prohibition is absolute and non-derogable. "No exceptional circumstances whatsoever" may be invoked to justify torture, including war, threat of war, internal political instability, public emergency, terrorist acts, violent crime, or any form of armed conflict. Torture cannot be justified as a means to protect public safety or prevent emergencies. Neither can it be justified by orders from superior officers or public officials. The prohibition on torture applies to all territories under a party's effective jurisdiction, and protects all people under its effective control, regardless of citizenship or how that control is exercised. Since the convention's entry into force, this absolute prohibition has become accepted as a principle of customary international law

I have observed the wickedness of man against man. Today I am angry. And when I get angry, terrible things happen.
But I have been reading news of people dying as a result of torture by policemen, soldiers, angry mob, furious parent, friends, and even so called madams.

Ask yourself if it is right to torture another human being.
We hear of mob justice everywhere, it now seems to be a common thing.
Soldiers torture civilians for minor traffic offenses. Policemen, especially Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) are known for torturing suspects in order to obtain confessions under duress. Neglecting our law which states that any testimony or confession obtained under duress is not valid as evidence in the court of law.

United Nation laws also forbid and prohibit torture in any form throughout the world including Nigeria.
Please see more on the United Nation law against torture by clicking below
http://www.hrweb.org/legal/cat.html

I may begin to paste some articles of this law. Nigeria is a signatory to this law.
We must demand change. Please raise your voice against torture by any person, whether security agents or civilians.

If the Mods could get this to front page for sensitization and public enlightenment, it will be a great step forward.
Nairaland GeneralThe Evil Of "Strange Face" by staggerman(op): 10:42pm On Aug 13, 2013
Evil has crept into this nation. It is growing into a great monster, and everyone is watching unconcerned.
This generation in this nation has become worse than the people of Sodom and Gomorrah. They attack strangers and kill anyone seen as a so called "strange face".

Right now a young man I know is currently in detention in SARS Rivers State, for over one month now without being charged to court. He is being tortured severely, threatened to be shot if he doesn't confess to crimes he didn't commit.
His offense was that he was a "strange face" in an area. The young man had been trying to locate the house of a relative who was having a child dedication on Sunday 30th June 2013. He was with a friend, and they stopped to ask a young man to direct them to the street they were trying to locate. He told them to wait for him. He left and returned with a group of young men. they pounced on them and beat them, stripping them and took pictures of the whole acts.
The police arrived before something worse could happen and they were whisked away till today.
His other friend has just been released after paying N150,000. But he is still being detained and tortured. Declared guilty by a mob, and the police.

I believe our constitution states that a person is innocent until declared guilty by a competent court. Not by a Police officer, nor by a group of people.
Geneva laws also condemn any act of torture in any nation.
In Primary School, I was taught that Police men help in enforcing the law, but when I grew up I discovered that policemen are the primary culprits of law breaking and disorder

In February this year, a friend of mine in whose house we hold midnight non-denominational prayers, was nearly attacked by a mob at oyigbo Rivers State. he is a Second Class Upper graduate of Petroleum Engineering FUTO. He has a masters degree and is almost rounding up his PhD. He is a fellowship leader and strong member of the Kings Assembly Portharcourt.
He simply attended a friend's child dedication at Oyigbo, and on his way returning, he was surrounded by a group of people who accused him of stealing N4,000 from a lady's bag some hours earlier. People saw him as a stranger walking along the street and concluded he must be the thief terrorizing their area. It took the prompt intervention of friends and colleagues who rushed to the scene when news got back to the venue of the child dedication, to rescue him.

These things are horrible. As for me, since I was born, no one has ever crossed me and gone free. Strong forces protect me. people who have attempted evil against me have always faced terrible judgements almost instantly.

Fortify yourself and you will prevail against evil. Stand against evil and you will spare your generation.

When men become violent to strangers, they may unknowingly attack Angels, thereby bringing quick judgement upon themselves and their entire nation.
Remember when Sodom got destroyed, it wasn't only the attackers that were killed, but every single man, woman and child, whether old or young.
When one person commits evil acts, judgement may come on everyone who has not done anything to stop such evil.
It is time to bring Light or be consumed in the coming darkness.

Christianity Etc10 Questions To Ask Before You Give Money To Ministries by staggerman(op): 12:58am On Aug 08, 2013
Ten questions to ask before you give money to ministries:

1. Are the people who are asking for money modeling Christlikeness and servanthood or salesmanship and self-promotion?
2. Are they exalting Jesus Christ or exalting people and ministries?
3. Do they model prayerful dependency on God, or do they use pressure and manipulation to incite others to give?
4. Do they give people an opportunity to quietly and patiently hear from God, or do they insist that the giving must be done "now" or "instantly"?
5. Is there evidence of humility, purity and integrity in their demeanor and presentation, or do they use insincere hype, pushiness and striving?
6. Do they offer a sincere, faith-building presentation of Scriptures and testimonies or misleading promises and fear-inducing suggestions?
7. Does this ministry have a record of spiritual fruit that honors God, or is their reputation marred by unsubstantiated claims and exaggerated reports?
8. Do the people asking for money have godly lifestyles of humility and servanthood, or do they live as pampered people who require egotistical titles and lavish living?
9. Is the ministry financially accountable, or are false assurances used to gain credibility?
10. Do they ever imply that giving in an offering will increase a person's spiritual gifts or level of anointing?

kunlekunle: raising election money
Yeah. They borrow for their personal use, but the country gets to pay off the debt.

Truth is, Nigerians are distracted by the political happenings in Rivers, Anambra and Lagos State, but we are seemingly not paying much attention to the core happenings in our economic atmosphere.

Most people spent weeks, even months debating and arguing over the governor's forum election fiasco, while neglecting to raise same voices over the lack of competent actions by most of these governor's in their respective states.

I live in Portharcourt and I'm more concerned about the dilapidated Trans-Amadi road than by the so-called feud between PEJ and Amaechi.
PoliticsCost Of Building A Secondary School Is Now Almost N1 Billion- FG by staggerman(op): 3:27pm On Aug 06, 2013
The Federal Government has sought the support of the Islamic Development Bank for the provision of about $450m to expand the power transmission system to wheel up to 20,000 megawatts of electricity.

A statement on Sunday quoted Vice-President Namadi Sambo as making the request on behalf of the government in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, when he received the bank’s President, Dr. Ahmed Ali, who paid him a courtesy visit.
He said the bank had approved three out of the five projects submitted by the country.

The projects, according to him, are the construction of four new science secondary schools in Kaduna State worth $17,9m; construction of a 300-bed specialist hospital in Kaduna State at $43.15m; and the Zaria water supply project worth $81.0m.
http://www.punchng.com/business/business-economy/power-fg-seeks-450m-from-islamic-development-bank/

Assuming 1 dollar = 160 Naira
Four Secondary Schools will cost $17.9m = N2.864 billion
Therefore, one secondary school will cost N2.864 billion divided by 4 = N716 million each

Please tell me what this school will contain to drive the cost of constructing just one secondary school to over 700 million Naira

A 300-bed hospital will cost $43.15m = N6.904 billion

Beync: U are spoiling these pastors business hahaha

In fact u r very right
the blood Jesus poured marked the end of the law. We no longer leave by law but by undeserved kindness of God thru the blood of Jesus. The greatest law of all is 'Love' for God and for ur neighbor but these pastors cos of selfish interest will not make the truth known.
The sacrifice of the Lamb of God is enough. The money of man cannot appease God
Business To BusinessInvest In House Boats by staggerman(op): 11:39pm On Jul 22, 2013
My vision is to own/manage at least 50 house boats. To fulfill this vision, I need the support of partners and investors to make this happen.

House boat leasing is a lucrative but relatively unknown business in Nigeria. All oil companies in Nigeria (Shell, Total, Chevron, Saipem etc) lease house boats. Some lease run from a few months at a time to as much as over 10 years at a time.

House boats are leased at prices ranging from N100,000 (one hundred thousand Naira) to over N1,000,000 (One million Naira) daily.

House boats come in different sizes and crew capacity ranging from 30 man house boat to over 300 man house boat.

The plan is to build standard house boats to meet SPDC and Chevron specification.

Capacity= 40 man house boat

Features= 14 rooms fully furnished with flat screen televisions and mini refrigerator, a mess, a recreation room with large screen TV, a fully equipped kitchen and store, a medical room, automatic waste disposal unit, two units of 150 KVA generator, two extra mini barges (one for the generators and the other for muster point.

Expected Cost of production= N85m

Expected income= N120k to N150k daily (about N4m monthly)

Maintenance cost monthly= N250k including salary and logistics for maintenance crew (plumbers and electricians).

More details will be made available to interested investors.

The Jews that Jesus was addressing in Matt 23:23 and Luke 11:42 with regard to the tithe were under the requirement of the Law of Moses until the cross, just like the lepers that Jesus was addressing in Matt 8:4 were under the requirement of the Law of Moses until the cross; the lepers had a prescribed offering to make as well. That's why we have to be careful, because the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John describe many things as they were before the cross, when the Old Covenant was still in force.

We are now under grace and led by the Spirit. "If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law." (Gal 5:18) So there is no "tithe."

Now go to the book of Acts and all the epistles and see if you can find a "tithe." The apostle Paul writes two whole chapters on the subject of giving in 2 Cor 8 and 2 Cor 9 and never mentions a tithe. In 1 Cor 16 he even instructs his audience to "set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income" and never mentions a tithe. He also says that he gave the "Galatian churches" the same instruction. In Acts 2:44-45 and Acts 4:32-37, we see believers sharing everything they had with each other, not tithing. There is just no such thing as tithing under the New Covenant.

Again, the Old Covenant tithe was already fulfilled in a single, one time offering to Melchizedek by Abraham (Heb 7:6-10). The heart and intent behind giving is what we need to focus on, not an Old Covenant regulation that was already fulfilled in Melchizedek long before Moses was even born!

You see a need, you give, and God will supply.
