Nigerian celebrity stylist, Swanky Jerry, has a message for those who according to him over share their business on social media.According to him, everyone should learn something from Nadia Buari who shocked everyone yesterday after she disclosed that she is a proud mother of four. Swanky Jerry in his post said that over sharing will only bring your headache, as he added that Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha also deserves some accolades. His post reads; Telling the world your business: I understand that a lot of you don't have real friends or the internet has become like your diary in terms of over sharing ,but first rule is NEVER put your business online for all to read .Not because they'll judge you , but because when going through an emotional roller coaster you need the clarity of thought, not a bunch of opinions from people who just want a juicy story . You're not a real housewives cast member, you're not getting paid to expose your mess , so why do it ? Attention? It's damn sure not for experts analysis because half the people that will respond are idiots or trolls .In your real world ,only talk to a select few that you trust. If you run and tell everyone, you're sabotaging your future . Let's say you tell a group of women/men at work and they tell another group now everyone knows and feels sorry for you . After a month of you having time to think , you decide to try and work it out . The same people will not only talk behind your back , they will ruin your support system. I just read that nadiabuari has four kids that's an MVP a woman that beautiful I can't help but give her some accolades I hope you learnt a thing or two from her . That's how to have peace of mind .... over sharing will only bring your headache . chiomakpotha you too deserve some accolades..... just thinking out loud . Protect your family and loved ones with your life . #foodforthought https://lailasnews.com/swanky-jerry-has-a-word-for-those-over-sharing-their-business-on-social-media/ Lalasticlala

Founder of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has been sentenced to one month in prison by a High Court in Owerri, the Imo State capital. The court order, which was served to the police last Thursday, signed by J.C. Okoro Esq. and dated June 6, 2018, indicates that Uwazuruike will be in prison custody for one month for contempt of court. News Telegraph reported that upon reading through the Motion On Notice filed on July 6, 2017, praying for an order of court to commit the plaintiff in the substantive suit, Uwazuruike, to prison for disobeying the order of court made on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 and after due consideration of the unchallenged oral evidence of the 1st defendant, Chigozie Iheama and exhibits tendered in the contempt proceedings, the presiding judge, Justice Kemakolam Ojiako, ruled that: “The plaintiff, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, is hereby found guilty of contempt to the said order of court made on April 2, 2014. “That the plaintiff, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, is hereby sentenced to prison custody and shall be so detained for a period of one month from the date of his commitment to prison.” Uwazuruike, his agents and proxies have also been restrained from entering into the said land subject matter until the suit is determined. This judgement is coming after Uwazuruike dragged Iheama to court in 2013 over a land transaction issue in suit No. HOW/265/2013. According to Iheama, from 2013 to 2017 that the case was on, Uwazuruike had refused to appear in court in a matter he is the plaintiff. However before the matter was transferred to the present court, the former judge, Justice Florence Duruoha Igwe, was hearing contempt proceedings against Uwazuruike for defying the orders of court for parties to maintain status quo and commencing building on the disputed land. Iheama alleged that plots by the MASSOB leader to frustrate justice, did not stop when the matter was transferred to the court of Justice Kemakolam Ojiako. “Consequent order of the court to seal the property by chaining and padlocking the gates was subverted by Uwazuruike who instead removed the gate and sealed up the area with a block wall, making it impossible for court officials to enforce the order,” he said. On his own part, Uwazuruike had, however, argued that he was not under obligation to be in court as the case was a civil matter. But Iheama differed, saying that the case at hand was the contempt proceedings and not the substantive suit. While Justice Ojiako noted in his ruling that “the substantive proceeding is adjourned to the July 10, 2018, to await the outcome of the Motion for Stay of proceedings,” counsel to the MASSOB leader, Emma Chukwuka, said that hearing on the appealed suit comes up on October 2, 2018. https://lailasnews.com/massob-leader-uwazuruike-jailed-by-court-for-contempt/ Lalasticlala

The Father's day celebration is still on, and a Nigerian Twitter user @Bar_Baric took to the platform to share a post about his relationship with his dad before and after his death. According to Twitter user @Bar_Baric who always wondered why his father's work was so important that he couldn't make out time for them, he realized how hard working his dad was when he died. He wrote; I never really loved my dad much till he died. I was just a kid and always wondered what was so important about his bloody work that he couldn't make time for us. Mum made out time; mum cared. So one day, the big man had an accident on his way to resume work in Abuja after the Easter holiday. He didn't make it. In less than a month, we were asked to leave the CBN quarters, the cars were taken away, we had to withdraw from the top schools. It was after my father's death I began to realise what words like "Rent" and "Hunger" meant outside of the dictionary and written text. It was then I realized the time our dad didn't spend with us was what provided the good life we had, and in the words of 50 Cent, he died trying Since then, I gave special respect to all men working hard to provide for their families. It's one of the hardest things to do. It was then I understood why my dad would get so furious when I came second in class. I used to think he was just being a hater. A clash between personnel of the Nigerian Army attached to the Ngwa High School Forward Operation Base (Charlie Coy) and personnel of Mobile Police Force (PMF 55) unit in Osisioma Local Government Area of the State, reportedly left three people dead in Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia State. Conflicting report claim that a police officer’s hand was severed in the shootout, while another states that two mobile policemen and a soldier died in the melee. The Nation reported that efforts to reach both police and army hierarchy in the state until the time of the report failed, as the State Commissioner of Police and the spokesman of the Command, Michael Ogbizi and Geoffrey Ogbonna were yet to reply to a text message. Sources who claimed to have witnessed the incident, feared that the incident which caused pandemonium at the major exit and entrance route into Aba also wounded many passersby. According to one Chinyere Ikem, the incident forced many shop owners to quickly close for business while many petty traders along the Expressway in Aba abandoned their wares to scamper for safety as lorry load of mobile and regular policemen arrived the scene that is already charged with gunshots. Ikem said that while some passengers going to different parts of the country that were yet to board vehicles to their locations were trapped in the shootout, others coming into the country, used alternative routes to avoid being caught in the web of the crisis. “It happened like what we used to watch in American movies. It happened in a flash and before you know what is happening, trucks of army and police vans were everywhere. Police and army were shooting themselves face-to-face. From what we later learnt, two policemen and a soldier died in the gun duel. It is better seeing that being told. I don’t know what is happening at this Osisioma junction. Don’t forget that some time ago, police and army clashed here and shoot at each other leaving one policemen dead. “I saw some people running with blood stain and I guess that they were hit be stray bullets. Police and army leadership in the state should call themselves to order. They are sister agencies and I don’t think that it is in their own interest to be fighting among themselves when they are supposed to be working hand in hand with each other especially as the state Governor is doing his best in tackling insecurity in the state,” Ikem stated. Though normalcy had returned to the area, however the Nation correspondent gathered that shop owners were yet to open for business as people in clusters recount their experience of the incident. Confirming the incident, Abia State Government in a press release through the commissioner of information in the state, Chief John Okiyi said that the state received with sadness “disturbing reports of an unfortunate confrontation between a group of soldiers and police officers at the Osisioma area of Aba earlier today (Friday June 15).” Okiyi who said that the state government was working with heads of security to bring the situation under control also assured that investigation was ongoing to know the cause of the incident and to fish out those behind the incident. https://lailasnews.com/three-die-as-soldiers-clash-with-police-in-aba/ Lalasticlala

A Nigerian student who stabbed an autistic teenager to death over a row on WhatsApp has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 21 year. Paul Akinnuoye, 20, from Tunbridge Wells in Kent, traded homophobic insults with Jordan Wright, 19, in a WhatsApp group called “Ice city boyz”. Akinnuoye, of Tunbridge Wells in Kent, called the 19-year-old a “batty boy” and he retorted: “On your mum’s life I’m straighter than you.” As the argument escalated, the pair arranged to meet for a fight to settle their differences in Blackheath, southeast London, on 19 April last year. Akinnuoye, who had a past conviction for carrying a knuckleduster was carrying a knife but Mr Wright, who was due to start a construction apprenticeship days later, thought it was a “fist fight”, the court heard. He was stabbed in the chest and collapsed after telling friends he felt “unwell”. He later died in hospital. Akinnuoye’s knife was recovered from a bush in the park and he was convicted of murder earlier this year. Judge Philip Katz QC jailed Akinnuoye to life with a minimum term of 21 years, condemning friends who had stoked their WhatsApp row. He said; “The trigger for this murder was an utterly trivial dispute on a WhatsApp group chat which involved you, Jordan and others,” “Jordan lost his life as a result of this pathetic goading on social media. Jordan’s death was as pointless as it was tragic.” Source: https://lailasnews.com/nigerian-jailed-for-life-after-killing-autistic-boy-over-whatsapp-argument/ Lalasticlala, OAM4J, Mynd44

President Buhari recent move of honoring the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election, MKO Abiola with he GCFR title, has been 'rubbished' by Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka. Wole Soyinka slammed President Muhammadu Buhari for his recent show of “admiration” for Sani Abacha, ex-military head of state, who he called Abiola’s “tormentor”. Abiola was jailed in 1994 by Abacha, after he declared himself president following the annulment of the 1993 election by the military government of Ibrahim Babangida. At a recent meeting in Aso Rock also, Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari said: “No matter what opinion you have about Abacha, I agreed to work with him and the PTF road we did from here to Port Harcourt, to Onitsha, to Benin and so on.” Speaking on Tuesday when Buhari conferred the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) on Abiola, though Soyinka did not mention Abacha’s name specifically, the Nobel laureate said it was confusing for Buhari to honour Chief Moshood Abiola on the one hand, and be admiring the late politician’s “Tormentor-in-Chief” on the other. Some are of the opinion that he had referred to the late Head of State, Sani Abacha, who clamped the business mogul to jail for about five years. He wondered why President Buhari will continue to display loyalty to a man he described as “one of the worst dictators in the history of the country” and who should be having his days in court for crime against humanity. “You cannot honour Abiola in one breath and admire his tormentor in another breath,” he told Buhari at the event which held in Abuja. He also proposed a “hall-of-shame” award for past Nigerian leaders guilty of violent crimes against citizens. Buhari also conferred Babagana Kingibe, Abiola’s running mate in the election; and Gani Fawehinmi, late human rights activist, with the Grand Commander of the Niger (GCON). https://lailasnews.com/you-cant-honour-abiola-and-praise-his-tormentor-soyinka-slams-buhari/ Lalasticlala

Nigerian celebrity writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has been awarded the PEN Pinter Prize 2018 for her “refusal to be deterred or detained by the categories of others”. The annual prize is given annually to a writer from Britain, the Republic of Ireland or the Commonwealth who, in the words of Harold Pinter’s Nobel speech, casts an "unflinching, unswerving" gaze upon the world, and shows a "fierce intellectual determination … to define the real truth of our lives and our societies". Praised by the judges for being “sophisticated beyond measure in her understanding of gender, race and global inequality”, Adichie will collect the accolade at a public ceremony at the British Library in October, where she will deliver an address and also announce her co-winner, the International Writer of Courage 2018, selected from a shortlist of international cases supported by English PEN. This year’s judges, who named Chimamanda Adichie the winner of the prize, were President of English PEN Philippe Sands, historian, biographer and widow of Harold Pinter Antonia Fraser, writer and critic Alex Clark, poet, playwright and performer Inua Ellams, and chair of Judges and chair of trustees for English PEN Maureen Freely. Freely said of Adichie, the winner of the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, the Orange Prize, and the US National Book Critics Circle Award: “In this age of the privatised, marketised self, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is the exception who defies the rule. In her gorgeous fictions, but just as much in her TED talks and essays, she refuses to be deterred or detained by the categories of others. Sophisticated beyond measure in her understanding of gender, race, and global inequality, she guides us through the revolving doors of identity politics, liberating us all.” Byatt, director of English PEN, said Adichie’s writing and activism showed us what is important in the world, calling her "a very worthy winner of this extraordinary prize", to which Fraser, Harold Pinter’s widow, added: "Not only is Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie a brilliant, compelling writer but she embodies in herself those qualities of courage and outspokenness which Harold much admired.” Adichie commented: “I admired Harold Pinter's talent, his courage, his lucid dedication to telling his truth, and I am honoured to be given an award in his name.” Adichie will be awarded the prize on 9 October, when she will also announce her co-winner, the 2018 International Writer of Courage. https://lailasnews.com/chimamanda-ngozi-adichie-wins-2018-pen-pinter-prize/ Lalasticlala

A father of two has been arrested by the Nigerian Police for raping a 13 year old hawker. The auto spare parts dealer, Martins Ukemezie, was arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old hawker in his shop at Iyanu bus stop, Meiran, Lagos State. The victim, a primary six pupil, had reportedly sold N50 groundnuts to Ukemezie last Monday and was about to collect the money when the suspect allegedly dragged her into his shop and raped her. The teenager, who lives with her grandmother in the neighbourhood, went hawking that day around 4pm after she returned from school to raise part of her N5,000 school fees balance. She was said to have returned home crying and narrated the incident to her aunt who made a report at the police station. The aunt, Blessing, said the family had been enduring difficult times lately which forced her and the girl to engage in hawking in order to sustain the family. She said the victim’s mother died after delivery and was living with her father in Abuja until last year when she relocated to Lagos after the father lost his job. Blessing said her niece gave a vivid account of the incident at the police station but the man denied committing the crime, adding that he later admitted to have only made an attempt to rape her. The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, said the case had been transferred to the gender section of the police command in Ikeja for thorough investigations. He said; “We are not adopting any report given to us. We are reopening the case. The girl had been taken to Mirabel Centre, but the gender section is now handling the case. The girl will be subjected to appropriate medical tests to seek a second opinion.” Source: https://lailasnews.com/father-of-two-arrested-for-raping-13-year-old-hawker/

Ghana has reportedly dissolved its national football association after the president of the association was filmed apparently accepting a "cash gift". Sports Minister Isaac Asiama said the national football association had been "dissolved with immediate effect". Kwesi Nyantakyi was pictured taking $65,000 (£48,000) from an undercover reporter pretending to be a businessman keen to invest in Ghanaian football. He has not commented on the allegations. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, Ghana's information minister, said the government had "decided to take immediate steps to have the GFA (Ghana Football Association) dissolved", citing the "widespread nature of the apparent rot". He said interim measures to govern Ghanaian football would be announced soon, pending the formation of a new association. The GFA said in a statement that it would co-operate with any investigation. Nyantakyi is vice president of the Confederation of African Football and also a member of the Fifa Council, effectively the board that runs world football. Ghanaian police had already opened an investigation into the GFA head after President Nana Akufo-Addo complained that Nyantakyi had “used the president’s name and office fraudulently”. Since taking charge of the GFA, he has made anti-corruption a major part of his message. However, the undercover film shows him apparently placing the $65,000 "shopping money" into a black plastic bag. Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi was caught suggesting lucrative deals to undercover journalists posing as “investors” in the film “Number 12”, which was shown Wednesday at a preview attended by diplomats and politicians in the capital Accra. Other Ghana FA executives were also filmed accepting bribes influencing player selection for various national teams. And 15 referees were even caught on camera allegedly accepting just $100 (85 euros) to rig Ghana Premier League matches — with their assistants taking $50. The project is the result of two years work by an undercover investigative journalist who goes by the pseudonym Anas Aremeyaw Anas, who is known for previously exposing graft in Ghana’s judiciary. The documentary shows Nyantakyi proposing to journalists posing as investors pay him $11 million to help grease the palms of key government officials to secure contracts. During several meetings in Dubai, Nyantakyi also suggested setting up an agency that would broker a sponsorship deal for the Ghana Premier League. The deal discussed on camera was to be worth US$5 million per year for five years, and as part of the agreement the Ghana FA was to pay a fee of 20 to 25 per cent to the agency set up by Nyantakyi. Ghanaian police had already opened an investigation into the GFA head after President Nana Akufo-Addo complained that Nyantakyi had "used the president's name and office fraudulently". Nyantakyi was then questioned by police and released pending further investigation. Journalist Anas, who keeps his identity a closely guarded secret, earlier in the week vowed to carry on his undercover work despite receiving death threats over his latest expose. "I am not scared and I will not be intimidated. I'm keeping my focus and will not be distracted," Anas Aremeyaw Anas told AFP earlier in the week, stating that his work was "in the interest of the nation". Super Eagles Coach Gernot Rohr has said the team will go for the win against Czech Republic, as they look to boost the teams morale ahead of the FIFA world Cup in Russia. The coach said the team aims at ending its two-game winless streak by defeating Czech Republic in their last friendly game on Wednesday ahead of the World Cup. Rohr said the team needed the victory so as to boost the morale of the players ahead of their World Cup campaign. He said; “We will go for victory that would boost spirit and earn team confidence ahead of our first match in Russia. It would not be an easy pick but we will work hard for it.” Rohr’s men didn't play well in the first half of their 2-1 loss to England but returned at the interval to post a spirited performance. The second half showing gave a glimpse of hope about the capability of the Nigerian side but a quick return to winning ways is what the Eagles need ahead of the Mundial. Rohr’s men understand the face off with Czechs Republic provides an opportunity for them to pick up momentum before they face Croatia on June 16. That is not the only motivation; the Eagles will also look to avenge the 2-1 loss the country suffered in the hands of Czech Republic when the two sides met in 1996. Alex Iwobi impressed against England, scoring Nigeria’s goal, and should be given another chance to catch the eye in this match. Odion Ighalo led the line against the Three Lions, but Kelechi Iheanacho will hope for an opportunity to show what he can do ahead of the World Cup. Two female tenants from Cross River State, identified as Mercy and Rose who reportedly moved to Utese village in Ovia North East local government area three weeks ago after they told their landlord that they do farm work and also engaged in hair making, have reportedly disappeared with their landlord's two children. The two kids whose names were given as Amada aged four and Christable aged two, were left in the custody of the tenants by their mother who went to the stream to wash her clothes. The distraught parents who made inquiries after the tenants disappeared, were told by residents of the village that they saw them stopping vehicles on the highway and they thought they were taking the children out as usual. When their room was broken into, it was discovered that they took their few belongings and vanished. Mother of the missing children, Faith Osaruoname who spoke to newsmen in Benin said that she always leaves her children with the tenants whenever she is going out. However on this occasion, after she went to the stream with her eldest daughter and she came back, she was told that the tenants went out with the children. She added that it dawned on her that the tenants have fled with her two daughters, after her husband returned. “I thought the girls will soon return home with my children so I went to cook. After cooking, I wanted to go and get some water again when my husband came back. “He asked me about the children and I told him they went out with the tenants. I later ran out to look for them but did find them. I have been calling the numbers of those girls and they were switched off.” The Nation reported that the Father of the children, Omokpia Osaruoname, said he has reported the matter at the Okada Police Division. Omokpia said he was surprised when his two daughters did not come out to welcome him home. He stated that he was further shocked when his wife told him she has not seen the children since when she returned from the stream. His words, “I went to Benin by 8am. I left my wife and children at home with the tenants that have not spent up to three weeks. Their mother said she was going to the stream so she left the children with the tenants. My wife said she returned at about 5pmand did not see the children. “I said at 7pm my children are still not back. My wife ran out and started looking for them. She later called that they said the tenants have ran away with my children. “People said they saw them stopping taxi. We went to various police check points and the Okada Police Division. “One is a hairdresser. They don’t have any shop. They begged me to give them a shop in my house and I told them to wait till the end of the year. Some boys in our area who are their boyfriends used to come and see them. “They said their brother lives in the next village but I have not seen him before. I don’t have their photographs; I don’t know anything about them. Delivering judgment in a lawsuit filed by a civil society group, Advocacy for Societal Rights Advancement and Development Initiative, a Federal High Court in Abuja ruled on Tuesday that information about the amount of taxpayer fund suspected to have been expended on President Muhammadu Buhari’s treatment in London last year, could not be released under the Freedom of Information Act without the President’s consent. Justice John Tsoho held that the information sought related to personal information of an elected person like Buhari, and which was exempted by Section 14(1)(b) of the FoI Act, 2011. Punch reported that he also ruled that the Central Bank of Nigeria and its Governor, Godwin Emefiele, could not be held liable for not disclosing the information, having transferred the group’s October 19, 2017 request to the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President. According to him, the plantiff ought to have followed up on information about President Buhari's treatment with the Office of the Chief of Staff, but refused to take advantage of it, thereby depriving itself of an definite answer from the government. The name of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, was also struck out as the third defendant on the grounds that “no reasonable cause of action” was disclosed against him. He also struck out the plaintiff’s request for damages, and further ruled that the suit was “bound to fail.” Recall that President spent 103 days in London receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment in 2017. Alleging that the President’s overseas medical expenses were paid from the Nigerian treasury, a civil society group, Advocacy for Societal Rights Advancement and Development Initiative, had written a letter dated October 19, 2017 to the CBN requesting on the strength of the Freedom of Information Act, 2011, the details of the spending. The group had also requested information on what it cost the country to keep the presidential aircraft and crew for 103 days at the Stansted Airport in the United Kingdom while President Buhari’s medical treatment lasted. When the CBN bank failed to yield to its demands, the group filed a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1142/2017 before the Federal High Court in Abuja, praying for an order compelling the apex bank to release the information sought. https://lailasnews.com/information-on-buharis-london-treatment-cant-be-released-without-his-consent-court/ Lalasticlala

Nigerian music star, Falz, whose ‘This is Nigeria’ video went viral, after it spoke about some ills that has befallen Nigeria as a country, has suffered some knocks as a Muslim group, The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) have asked him to withdraw his ‘This is Nigeria’ video and apologize to Nigerians, or face legal action. Recall that some girls dressed in hijab were seen dancing the “shaku shaku” dance in the video. However after he was criticized for the stunt, Falz explained that the girls were a representation of the abducted Chibok girls still in Boko Haram captivity. However in a statement by Ishaq Akintola, MURIC's Director, the group claimed the dancers in the video in no way depict the situation of the girls. They also condemned “a character that dressed like a Fulani man, who suddenly abandoned his traditional guitar and beheaded a man” featured in the video. The Muslim Group who described the video as “thoughtless, insensitive and highly provocative,” and could brew religious and ethnic crisis. According to them, the video is spiteful and intended to denigrate Islam and Muslims. The statement reads; “MURIC rejects Falz’ explanation that the girls in hijab in his ‘Shaku Shaku’ dance symbolize the Chibok girls because nothing in the video indicates that the girls represent the Chibok girls,” the statement read. “At least none of the Chibok girls have been seen dancing like a drunkard. They are always in pensive mood. Do they have any cause to be dancing? Are they happy? “The video manifests ethnic bias against Fulanis while it ignored the criminal activities of ethnic militia of the Middle Belt who have also massacred Fulanis and rustled their cattle in their thousands. “It is a hate video. This video has the potential of causing religious crisis of unprecedented dimension. “It is an assault on the self-dignity of every Muslim. It is freedom of expression gone haywire. “We therefore demand its withdrawal and an apology to Nigerian Muslims within seven days or the authors and their agents will face legal action if they fail to comply. “Only the scenes portraying police brutality and the money-swallowing snake in the video are near the truth.” The group called on security agencies and the National Film And Video Censors Board (NFVCB) to clamp down on the video. “We call the attention of security agencies to this hate action,” the statement continued. “We remind Nigerians of the outcome of similar provocative actions in the past and their unpalatable outcomes. “The National Film And Video Censors Board (NFVCB), a regulatory agency set up by Act No. 85 of 1993 to regulate films and the video industry has a case to answer. ‘Shaku Shaku’ video was shot and released under its watch. “Instead of going violent, Nigerian Muslims should take those behind the ‘Shaku Shaku’ video to court in order to serve as a deterrent to others. “We therefore give notice of impending legal action against the artist behind the ‘Shaku Shaku’ video unless the latter is withdrawn and an apology is widely published within seven days.” https://lailasnews.com/muslim-group-muric-gives-falz-7-days-to-withdraw-this-is-nigeria-video/ Lalasticlala

Speaking at his investiture as Grand Patron of the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) at the presidential villa in Abuja, President Buhari insinuated that the Nigerian army showed lots of restraints on Biafrans during the civil war. According to President Buhari, Yakubu Gowon, who was the then head of state issued strict instructions to the army that Biafrans were not enemies, but “brothers and sisters of the rest of Nigerians”. “Earlier in my profession, during the civil war, I know how much sacrifice members of the Nigerian Red Cross and their international counterparts did both in the real front of operations and at the rear, on both sides. I think it is a lot of sacrifices because anything can happen to you in the operational areas. “The risks they faced were real and I admire their courage and commitment to helping people who were in distress and were virtually in millions. Those photographs of people from the Biafra enclave spoke a lot. “I remember with nostalgia the performance of the commander-in-chief, General Yakubu Gowon. Every commander was given a copy of the commander-in-chief’s instructions that we were not fighting enemies but that we were fighting our brothers. And thus, people were constrained to show a lot of restraint. “The international observer teams were allowed to go as far as possible within and outside the front and I think this was generous and very considerate of General Gowon. He is a highly committed Nigerian" he said. The civil war broke out in 1967 — after eastern Nigeria declared “Republic of Biafra” — and ended in 1970 with claims that millions were killed, mostly from starvation as a result of a blockade by the Nigerian government. https://lailasnews.com/nigerian-army-was-soft-on-biafrans-during-civil-war-president-buhari/ Lalasticlala

The fight between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and President Buhari's led government is still on, as the Presidency through Buhari's senior special assistant on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, took a swipe at the ex-president in a statement released on Sunday. According to the Presidency who narrated how some governors were forced out of office when Olusegun Obasanjo was in office, the opposition PDP showed aptitude in only one thing: the toppling of elected state governments using the police and secret service under their control. In a part of an essay he entitled: ‘The real price of “change the change” campaign’, Garba Shehu wrote: “When they ran the government at the centre, the opposition PDP showed aptitude in only one thing: the toppling of elected state governments using the police and secret service under their control. “A five-man legislature met at 6:00 am and “impeached” Governor Dariye in Plateau; 18 members out of 32 removed Governor Ladoja of Oyo from office. “In Anambra, APGA’s Governor Obi was equally impeached at 5:00 a.m. by members who did not meet the two-thirds required by the constitution. “His offence was that he refused to inflate the state’s budget. The lawmakers had reportedly met with representatives of the President in Asaba, Delta State and then accompanied to Awka by heavy security provided by the police Mobile Unit. The PDP President at that time had reportedly told Obi to forget re-election in 2007 if he did not join the PDP because he (the President) would not support a non-PDP member. “In Ekiti, Governor Fayose in his first term faced allegations of financial corruption and murder. Following the failure to heed the instruction of the presidency to impeach only Fayose and spare the deputy, Madam Olujimi, now a senator, the PDP President declared that there was a breakdown of law and order in the state and declared a state of emergency. He appointed Brig-Gen. Adetunji Olurin (rtd) as the sole administrator of the state on October 19, 2006. “In an earlier incident in Anambra, it took an insider collaboration to thwart the unseating of Governor Ngige by a powerful thug sponsored by the PDP administration. “The parliament at the centre seized the law-making powers of the Rivers State House of Assembly as a way to save Governor Rotimi Amaechi, the then chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum from impeachment by the PDP presidency. “Thank God for Buhari, none of these absurdities has happened under his watch but the PDP is indicating their boredom with his meticulous observance of the constitution by calling for a return to the old order. “If not for “dry eyes,” as said in our common parlance, what is it that would push this party to write a letter to the United Nations, laying false claims to constitutionality and alleging that democracy is presently under threat? “But then, we all understand that by its tone, this is an angry opposition unhappy about the loss of privileges they desperately want to hang on to, privileges now abolished by the prudent, austere Buhari Administration. “The former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, shocked the world by the revelation in her new book, titled, Fighting Corruption is Dangerous: The Story Behind the Headlines, that they paid N17 billion bribe to the National Assembly to get them pass the 2015 budget.” https://lailasnews.com/how-governors-were-illegally-removed-under-obasanjo-presidency/ Lalasticlala
