About the kernel, i dnt see why i should flash a new kernel - when the real power consumption are on the mobiledata/wifi/sync . You can try battery saver its free on xda till april 18. I dnt play music or games on my GS3, use the ipod for music and videos and my pc can handle the games i like playing.

I prefer the stock android look , that cm offers to sick ugly samsung look. which is one of the reason's am waiting for a new model of nexus devices instead of getting an s4.....

I'm currently using an undervolted kernel, meaning that less power will be supplied to the phone from the battery causing phone to save ALOT more battery. Below is a screenshot of my phone after a whole day of use (3 hours on screen time), whatsapp, twitter, facebook messenger, two emails pushing and other stuff. Yet 43% battery left! So dats what a custom kernel can do.

I have to disagree with you mate. On the issue about him being outdated. 4.1.2 is the Latest available firmware for the Galaxy S3 currently. A 4.2.1 firmware leaked (MB3) but it isn't stable. And it's a leak from someone's dump.
Before we can ascertain if his phone is SDS safe, we have to see the Build Number. Because firmwares newer than LLA is said to be 'SDS Safe'. Well i'm running the most recent MB5 (Custom ROM). I flash my phone with different ROMs almost every 2 - 3 days.

I was running an Xperia Z ROM Yesterday. Today, i'm back to Stock-looking TouchWiz Sammy ROM

The screen should cost somewhere around 40,000 to 45,000 and at least 5,000 naira to fix. So just budget around 50,000 naira mate. (Could even be more)

Leave S tweaks for now, it's risky. Undervolting and Underclocking can be dangerous to your phone if Voltages and Clocks are wrong. I will post a guide for you when I'm on my PC. but still ill advice you to stay off. better still change kernel... because Siyah will give u performance but not best battery life.

Firstly, You don't have an international S2. I think yours is called S Advance or SL. something like dat. Look for unlocking apps on play store also previous pages of the thread. Also, read to confirm it is compatible with your model. Use Google mate, Use Google.

or better still, post a screen shot of that page. you take screenshots by holding home button and power button on your phone down together at the same time for about 2 seconds. you will find the screen shot in Internal SD > Pictures > Screenshots.

Flash PhilZ in stock recovery.

1. Download this file www. mediafire. com /? mqd112cmimdz7et (8MB)
2. Copy it to a folder you will name as 'AAA' on your EXTERNAL SD card. MUST be external memory card!
3. Reboot into recovery. (Hold Volume Up + Home + Power button together) keep holding until you see the recovery menu shud be less than 10 seconds
(Use Volume keys by the side to scroll and power button to select)
4. Scroll to apply update from external SD, select it, then select the 'AAA' folder.
5. Select the Philz file you copied in there. Then scroll down to 'Yes' to acknowledge the flashing.
6. When flashing is done, Go back to main 'Recovery Menu' and.....
7. Reboot system now.
8. ENJOY YOUR ROOTED PHONE!!!

Here are the steps. U might not understand it tho...

1. Root your phone.
2. Extract your nv_data.bin
3. Look at the file with an hex-editor and goto offset 0x181460 (Ultra Edit, HxD, Hex-Workshop etc)
4. Take the hashes from 0x18146e (20 bytes), 0x18148e, 0x1814ae, 0x1814ce, 0x1814ee
5. If the hash is 7D 3E 17 CF CD 81 6C AC D4 E0 25 FA A6 50 04 FD D1 7D 51 F8 ignore it since that is 00000000
6. Put the hash into the BF exe for example:-
ighashgpu.exe /h:EF63BF26E2382917D96850CCF9632458EE6E6C77 /t:sha1 /c:d /max:8 /min:8 /salt:0000000000000000
and wait for it to finish, do that for each hash which is not zeros, the Found password: [50681318] is the code.
7. Put unaccepted simcard in the phone and when it asks for the unlock code enter them in order
8. Job done, phone is now unlocked for free.

If you cannot find a block which looks like hashes @ 0x181460, then search for SSNV and add 5216, but from the files which I have seen the block appears to be fixed @ 0x181460.

If it will not accept the code which you believe to be correct, it means the attempts have been used up, so you need to use the MCK code to unfreeze your phone, note it will not request unfreeze code, just say network lock unsucessful even your code is valid. (MCK HASH is @ offset 0x180049)

SIMPLY JUST USE THIS APP - SGS 2 SIM Unlock code finder. Based on the procedure above.

Shut down phone completely, then hold down Vlume up + home + power. keep holding them 3 buttons till you get to recovery screen.

mhozzis: I upgraded my galaxy s2 from GB to CM9 SUCCESFULLY after backin up my stock rom. A week after, i decided to restore the stock rom which i backed up with cwm. I entered cwm recoverry and clicked on backup/restore and then clicked advance restore.
It brought options to restore data, cache, system. I restored the system and when it said successful it asked me to reboot. I did a reboot and after d samsung welcome screen it does not show the splash S boot logo, thus it doesn't boot but instead the screen just goes dark/black like when the phone is off but touching the soft keys shows the off is actually on.
I don't know whats wrong with the phone. can anybody help pls?

you attempted to restore a GB system unto an ICS base. = Bootloop. Do regular restore (not advanced)

Or wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik.

Sorry, no you can't. You are already running the latest firmware for your phone, the Canadian (I9100MUGLD3) one.

And if you paid full price for this S2, you were cheated. Because this is not the international version of S2. I'm pretty sure it's from Canada tho. Its an original phone, but instead of the International GT-I9100 you have GT-I9100M. Sorry. U are stuck here.

This is called a bootloop mate, probably you didnt wipe your phone before upgrading or something. Here is how you can fix it

1. Turn phone off.
2. Reboot into recovery mode (Hold down Home + VolumeUp + Power buttons together; keep holding till you get the recovery screen)
3. Wipe Data/factory reset
4. Wipe Cache partition
5. Reboot system now.

How to control
Up - Vol Up button
Down - Volume Down button
Select/OK - Power button (single click)

BACKUP! BACKUP!! BACKUP!!!


1. DO A NANDROID BACKUP from recovery (IMPORTANT!!!)

Reboot into recovery (Home + VolumeUp + Power) keep holding till you get the recovery screen OR Just Open the CWM app in phone and hit Recovery under Reboot.

Go to Backup and Restore, select backup to external memory (make sure you have at least 2GB Free on ur ext SD).

Wait for it to finish. After done, +++ GO BACK +++

Then select the 'Reboot system now' option.


2. Backup all USER apps using Titanium backup (DO NOT BACKUP ANY SYSTEM APP unless you know what you are doing : The ones in red colour are SYSTEM apps)

3. Backup SMS, Call Logs, and contacts using 'Super BackUp' app. Download from store for Free.

Now ready to flash the ROM...


1. Copy ROM (zip file) to a special folder in phone, anywhere! internal or external SD (I advice you name the folder 'AAAAA' to make it easier to find)

2. Reboot into recovery (I wrote how to do this above already)

3. Do WIPES (Note: FULL WIPE is only needed when going to a different ROM. So when upgrading same ROM to a newer version, only Wipe Dalvik and cache partition. )

i, Wipe Dalvik Cache (under Advanced in recovery menu)

ii, Wipe Data/Factory Reset

iii, Wipe Cache partition

iv, Go into 'Mounts and Storage' then select 'format /system'

WIPES DONE!

+++GO BACK+++

4. Flash the ROM using 'Install Zip from sd card option' then select install from internal or external SD'

Of course, depending on where the zip file (ROM) was copied to.

SCROLLING

Up - Vol Up button

Down - Volume Down button

Select/OK - Power button (single click)

Back - +++GO BACK+++

U can also Navigate using the touch screen, but i will not advice this, so u do not make a mistake (Because you are a NOOB! ).

5. Now you should scroll to where the ROM is 'AAAAA' folder if you followed my suggestion.

6. Select the ROM with the power button and scroll down to yes and acknowledge it.

(!!!FLASHING WILL NOW BEGIN!!!) - This should take a only couple of seconds

(though it is depending on the ROM flashing method - IF an AROMA installer comes up, you just select the options you want like you are installing a PC software)

When Flashing is done, you will get a message saying Install successful.

+++ GO BACK +++

8. Reboot system now.

First Boot will take longer than usual (As you have cleared the dalvik cache), so DON'T PANIC, be patient.

9. After phone boots up, you can set it up with WiFi if you wish, or skip the setup to do with WiFi or 3G later.


ENJOY YOUR CUSTOM ROM!!!


OPTIONAL

10. Restore your Apps and data using Titanium backup.

11. Restore your Call Log, SMS and Contacts (if you do not sync your contacts with google) with SMS & Contacts Backup app.

To know if you using a custom ROM, go into Settings > About Phone. either write everything there and post here for me. or better still, scroll down to the end of the page and take a screenshot.

How to take a SS - Hold down power button and home button together for about 2 seconds.

FOR INTERNATIONAL GALAXY S2 PHONES ONLY!!! GTI9100 (NOT FOR GT I9100P or GTI9100G or SGH-i777 or ay other variant)

DO YOUR BACKUPS! (optional Of course. Just reminding you)

BACKUP! BACKUP!! BACKUP!!!

BackUp apps

1. Astro File Manager (Extract apk of installed apps) - Get from play store

2. Super BackUp (Messages, Contacts and Log) - Get from play store

3. Titanium Backup (Root only) - BackUp app and app data (Not SD data files though)

Also, backup the files you have in your Internal SD to a folder on your computer. Simple copy and paste backup as Factory Reset below would wipe Internal SD too)


NOW! Factory Reset your phone (I said this so won't have problems on first boot)
Settings > Backup and Reset > Factory Data Reset.

Unless you know how to wipe using ClockWorkMod (CWM) please, factory reset+wipe your phone.


MAKE SURE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED!


NORMAL WAY (OFFICIAL WAY)

1. Download KIES and connect mobile (wait for it to install phone) then search for update.

2. When you find update follow steps there to update mobile (read carefully).

THE ODIN WAY (UNOFFICIAL WAY)

1. Uninstall KIES if you installed it (This is VERY IMPORTANT because KIES can disrupt flashing with ODIN) - You REALLY don't want this to happen!
(during uninstall, tick the box so drivers will uninstall also). Restart ur pc.

2. Download and Install Samsung Mobile phone driver from here - http://www.mediafire.com/?4gwen7qlbpmeqck
Restart your computer again after installing. Important!

3. Connect phone to PC to install drivers. Wait for it to finish properly then disconnect phone.

(also go into Settings > Applications > Development. Then Tick USB debugging. Connect phone to PC again and let ADB drivers install)


4. Download the latest ROMs from here http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9100 (the higher the Changelist, the later it is. Meaning one with a changelist of 1418025 has more stuffs or fixes than one with 914166 even tho they re the same 4.1.2).
The ROMs always come in .zip format and what you need to flash is .tar, so naturally... you need to extract to get it.


5. Download ODIN (Samsung Flashing tool). Link - http://www.sendmyway.com/vju6egzhj0al (Uploaded by Stanley08)

Unzip it to a New folder in your desktop maybe (to find easily). Or any other path you want to keep it.


HAVE YOU DONE YOUR BACKUPS?!!!


6. Turn off mobile phone.


7. Open up ODIN (I always advice Windows 7 and Vista users to right-click and open as admin instead)


8. In ODIN, Just click on 'PDA' then browse to the folder where the extracted single file in step 4 is. (.md5 format)

Select the file. (check desktop if you extracted to desktop).


9. Put phone in download mode. (Hold the following buttons = Volume down+Home+Power)

Keep holding till you get a warning prompt asking if you are sure you want to enter Download Mode.

Press Volume Up button to accept. Now you will see an android logo and a sign dat says 'Downloading...'

Don't worry, Its not downloading anything yet, its just a confirmation that phone is now in download mode.


10. Connect the phone to PC using your USB cable. Now wait a little bit and ODIN will detect that a phone is connected .

You know this when the first 'ID:COM' box in ODIN lights up.


11. Make sure the 're-partition' box is NOT ticked! Leave every other thing the way it is. Just make sure 're-partition' is NOT ticked! DO NOT TICK!!!


NOW WE ARE READY TO FLASH STOCK JELLY BEAN v4.1.2


12. Just click START! Sit back and sip your coffee while your phone upgrades to JELLY BEAN (shud take about 5mins).


When Its done, phone will restart itself and you will be running on JELLY BEAN v4.1.2


ENJOY!!!
