Lol, yh I was one of the first people to get the S4. Samsung Nigeria said I was the second. Lol. but anyways, The GS4 is more than just a device, it is an Experience. Every second using this bad boy is amazing. And it looks awesome too. Not as girly/curvy as the S3 was. it's design is more of S2 + S3 together. It feels great in the hand too... Many say it looks cheap due to the polycarbonate material used to build the body... But I assure you one thing, it doesn't feel cheap. AT ALL!

iamDozzy: my s3 charges very slowly and/or discharges if I use it while charging ..how do I fix this ..and please dont say I should try a custom rom ..dont wanna root

The truth is that rooting and flashing a custom rom and or kernel will fix. But since that's out of the question, what you should do is re-calibrate ur battery. Get an app named 'BatteryCalibration' from app store then follow the instructions there.
And By the way, if you use 3G/HSDPA, battery consumption will always be more...

P.S : Don't use ur phone while it's charging. do one or the other.

HOW TO ROOT GT-I9500 INTERNATIONAL S4 (EXYNOS 5 OCTA VERSION)

WARNING - THIS IS ONLY FOR INTERNATIONAL GALAXY S4 GT-I9500 EXYNOS 5 OCTA VERSION ONLY!!!

DON'T TRY ON ANY OTHER MODEL OF THE S4!

UNINSTALL KIES IF YOU HAVE IT INSTALLED. Then Restart PC.

Also, make sure your phone is charged to at least 50%. I'll say 85% but it's a short process.

STEPS
Step 1. Download this rar file which contains (CWM recovery for your Galaxy S4, ODIN and SuperSU Zip file)

Also download Samsung USB Mobile drivers from here (http://d-h.st/fA7) and install it.

Step 2. Power off you Galaxy S4 and hold down VolumeDown, Center Home, and Power buttons together for about 5 seconds.

Step 3. When you see the warning screen, let go of all buttons then hit the Volume Up button to enter ODIN Download mode.

Step 4. Connect a micro-USB cable from your Galaxy S4 to your computer.

Step 5. In the ODIN folder, run the Odin3 v3.07.exe file by double-clicking on it.

If you see a highlighted box, you are good to go! if not, you probably didn't install the Samsung USB drivers EXE file you downloaded earlier. So, after installing it, unplug/re-plug the micro-USB cable to your phone. You should see the box light up!

Next, click 'PDA', then browse to the CWM recovery you downloaded earlier for your Galaxy S4. To the precise, this file 'cofface_I9500_cwm_recovery_en_new.tar'.

Make sure Re-partition is 'NOT' ticked in ODIN... Then Hit 'Start' to begin flashing CWM recovery to your phone.

Step 6. This will flash a custom CWM recovery to your Galaxy S4 and your phone will reboot.

If you see “PASS!” that means everything went successfully.

Step 7. Next, after your phone reboots, copy the SuperSU zip file (CWM-SuperSU-v0.99.zip) you downloaded earlier to a new folder you will name 'AAAAA' in your Internal SD.


~ At this point, you can now close ODIN on ur computer and unplug your USB cable if you wish ~


Step 8. Power off your Galaxy S4 then hold down Volume Up, Center Home, and Power buttons together.

Step 9. When you see the Samsung logo, keep holding down Volume Up and Center Home buttons but let go of the Power button, after say 5 seconds, let go of all buttons.

Step 10. Once in CWM Recovery, choose “install zip from sdcard” and hit the Power button.


** IN CWM, you scroll with the volume buttons and select by just tapping the power button **


Step 11. Choose “choose zip from sdcard” and hit the Power button.

Step 12. Choose “0/” directory and hit the Power button.

Step 13. Browse and find the SuperSU zip file you copied to the 'AAAAA' folder earlier and hit the Power button.

Step 14. Choose “Yes” and hit the Power button.

Step 15. This will install su binaries and SuperSU superuser app on your phone. This essentially “roots” your Galaxy S4.

Step 16. Go back to main menu and choose “reboot system now”, then hit Power button. Your Galaxy S4 will reboot.

Step 17. Once rebooted, you should find SuperSU app in your App drawer.

Step 18. Run the SuperSU app once and update the binaries.

Step 19. You can verify you have full root by downloading and opening rooted app like Titanium Backup app (which is highly recommended for backing up/freezing/un-installing your apps).

This is a CM 10.1 based custom ROM. ParanoidAndroid based on CM 10.1 and AOKP. Which means you will battle with a combination of AOKP bugs and CM 10.1 bugs. Including camera issues and what not. Samsung ROMs are TouchWiz (TW) based. And the latest Official YW based ROMs are 4.1.2 for the S3. However the S4 is releasing with TW based 4.2.2.

No it can't. Ur phone is not international version GT-I9300. if you flash it, u will probably brick ur phone. There are ROMs for that version I think. But not Neat ROM.

I wrote a script that removes all Samsung Bloatware (Music Hub, Video Hub, Samsung Apps and trash, all those stuff u never use on your phone), in result... Giving you better battery life and More RAM hence Making ROM even more lite and phone faster.

Wrote one for S3 and Note 2. It's a flashable zip called ROM Cleaner. The main dev is still trying to port it to S2. So it will surely get to S2 users soon. Of course it's for Rooted Users Only and Flashable Only from a custom recovery.

As this is an undervolted kernel, if you are getting any freezes, known as SOD (Screen Of Death). All you need do is flash a different kernel. So do not panic. Just flash a different kernel. But works Great for many! Shud for you too!

Yes, blackened kernel is contained there. Try the medium one. Also the wat I wrote above about freezes applies to you too!

NEAT ROM is available for both S2 and S3, So please please PLEASE don't flash the S2 one on ur S3 or Vice Versa. I was using S2 before and when I bought an S3, i convinced the developer Sasa to get one too. Now I'm going for the S4. Who knows

You can get blackened kernel in Aroma Mods of Neat ROM. I conviced Sasa to add it there. I'm a Recognized NEAT ROM beta tester on xda so I do the initial tests on the ROM before it is released to the public. I also tests other mods. Anyways currently running Neat ROM v3.1 + Aroma Mods 3.1a. + Blackened kernel version 5.0 medium which I have found to be more stable than v6.

LOL! Wat android kernel isn't Linux based? To me, AOKP sucks.
TW Based ROMs > AOSP Pure android > AOKP.

Also try Neat ROM Lite v4.5 and HiroX v5.7 (5.1 is the best so far but 5.7 is newer so might be better)

Setting up internet on ur phone

Settings > More Settings > Mobile Networks > Access Point names. You will notice that it is empty. Now, press the left soft key (Menu key) then Select 'New APN'.

Name - Airtel
APN - internet.ng.zain.com

Then press the menu key on the left of your phone and Save. Now you will be back to the 'APN' list that was empty before but you will have Airtel listed there. Just select ut using the button next to the name at the extreme right of your phone and u will have connectivity after a few seconds.

For Etisalat
Name - Etisalat
APN - etisalat

For MTN
Name - MTN
APN - web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net

For GLO
Name - GLO
APN- gloflat

Remember to select the correct apn for any SIM card you wanna use. ENJOY!

Following this advice i decided to download and install the released JB 4.2.2 and If i must confess,i was disappointed.
I Decided to download 4.2.1 Omega Rom.that is what am using now

All MB3 ROMs have memory issues. I'm a heavy user tho... so maybe won't affect u. They not stable too.. Many Phones running MB3 have been reported Suddenly Dead (SDS). My advice is flash v43.1 or Neat ROM Lite v3.1 (The one I use)
