Nairaland loves Igbos and Niger Deltans very much. The thought of being separated from them for any reason is unbearable to us, so we have decided that we will reject any attempt by anyone to use Nairaland to promote the idea of removing Igbos and Niger Deltans from Nigeria.

We have updated rule 9 of Nairaland to reflect this decision. It now says:

Thirteen days to her wedding and 29th birthday, a corps member, Miss Omolola Abogunrin, has been murdered by unknown criminals.

She was murdered in a sultry afternoon in the compound of an agriculture research institute located in Apata area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Sunday.

The late Miss Abogunrin was said to have been raped and strangled beside a stream within the expansive premises of the National Cereal Research Institute, Moor Plantation, Ibadan at about 1:30 pm.

Police are still on the trail of the murderers.

The deceased was looking forward to her wedding which was scheduled for October 17, the day she would have been 29 years old.

A close source disclosed that the couple-to-be held their family introduction four months ago, paving the way for proper marriage ceremony.

The wedding was to hold at a Christ Apostolic Church in Ibadan where both lovers live.

It was learnt that sympathizers confirmed rape and strangulation through the semen found on her private part and nail wounds around her neck respectively on discovering her corpse.

Residents said the deceased was returning from church when she was waylaid by the unknown criminals in a bush path within the institute’s farmland. She was said to be on her way to her lover’s house to spend some time with a plan to return home afterwards.

Her lover, Olusola Babalola, has since been arrested and detained by the police.

Omolola graduated from the Polytechnic, Ibadan.

She was completing her one year compulsory national service in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, as at the time of her death.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Oyo State, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said Omolola’s corpse has since been deposited at the morgue of state hospital, Adeoyo.

He explained that her lover, Mr. Babalola, was arrested and detained as part of police investigation on the broad-day murder.

Ajisebutu also disclosed that the case has since been transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the command, stressing that the command would do everything to bring Omolola’s killers to book.

This isn't just about ''conji''. Often times people take for granted the pains they inflict on others. Wudn't it be pertinent to ask if the girl/husband-to-be and her/his family could have attracted this? One bad turn deserves another.

Your assumptions baffle logic. I ve known her for 4yrs + and I lived with her for almost 2yrs. The parents had a year to find at whateva "sinister" u assumed before approving the wedding. How then did u come to the conclusion that they acted promptly? Could u please explain how I cud ve cajoled them into allowing the marriage?

Problem started when my father-in-law, after the wedding, asked me to sleep-over in his place against the tradition of going home with my wife and my people refused to concede. He flared up,locked up my wife and has been insisting on calling off the union.

I see why she probably ran. Like why will you come online and be disgracing yourself and your future ex-wife like this. Instead of dealing with the issue internally. I am sure you know the exact reason why she ran away, but you are in denial. You are the type that thinks once you are in love, the person must die at your hands, and cannot dare to say she does not want again.

Just learn from your bad experience and pick up the pieces of your life. If it is a bad behavior you have that made this one run away, change. If it is a mental illness, get help.

I'll excuse the subtle insult and feminist reasoning.

What "bad behaviour" or "mental illness" could have led to this after about 5 years of dating? We lived together for about 2 years before the proposal and the parents had about a complete year to find out all they could about me. The marriage was approved and blessed by the parents, only for them to make a u-turn just few hours after the event.

I brought this to the public domain to seek for advise and solution from experienced and mature minds, after internal ADR has failed. Tanx.

In as much as I do not hold brief for Oyedepo,I think he hasn't committed any crime.Note what the MP said;cynical exploitation.It took the gullible and the desperate to be convinced or rather fooled into gleefully parting with their hard-earned money.I guess its miracle for money and so far none of the "cynically exploited" has legally sued for fraud.Probably they re getting the spiritual value of their money. Was the MP a member of the church? Has he attended the church ones or was he observing from afar?
