okezie007:Your chances are pretty slim I'd say. Know that many master degrees require a Norwegian C average. Third class is a Norwegian D so you'd fall below the required grade in most cases. They may or may not weigh your work experience (most likely not). |
boolet:Na truth be dat. Many foods are saturated with palm oil, so even if the food sef is low carb, the palm oil will make sure it isn't. |
Sun re o omo. |
Just popping in to say I'm glad to see this thread still going. I still get a lot of PMs regarding studies in Norway, but the truth is that there are too many for me to actually reply to (I actually tried making a new thread in the past with all info on the front page, but it was locked. It's really a hassle having to dig through all the pages in this thread). |
O ma se o. This is what happens when you have a materialist culture in which people actually believe that being poor is synonymous with being a bad person. Many Nigerians believe that "if you do good, you will be rich; if you do bad, you will be poor", na so abi? It's an idiot's way of thought, but that's the way it is. |
Ooto ni. That is the sad truth! Most Nigerians are good people, but they are all being held down by institutionalized corruption which is incredibly hard to change. |
Wetin go happen if you greet an agbero with your left hand? |
"Dem dey rush us" - okay na. Me I no go touch am sef. |
Ah, Belgian Congo - the worst of the worst. These oyinbos still have not paid for the crimes they commited and continue to comit. |
Abeg. Nothing gets done in this country sef. Na kworuption wey dey for everywhere. Even the smallest of "promised" investments will never see the light of day. These govament mumus think they can hide d truth. Ehen, as they say eefin ni iwa, ko see fi pamo. |
Pls, let us win this one o... Ebola go strike Messi sef very soon. Na juju wey dey affect am. |
ok ok, but what about Buhari sef- him no be corrupt? See his son dey chop money plenty ati wey buy hotels for everywhere. Na work him dey do? Somebody ask this olodo for where his son don get money buy hotel. Abeg, Buhari is a part of the elephant that is Nigeria. Nothing will be done until our oil is gone. Oil has been a curse for the country and we would have much better lives as pastoralists, craftsmen and cultivators. |
Buhari must be a very intelligent man. Apparently, work and education is everywhere! We are just choosing to go hungry everyday because we are lazy. Wow, I am amazed by this man. Very sofisticated. Buhari no get sense? For UK he don stay for half is precidency. Na white man's feet he dey kiss. He's acting as if the British weren't the ones who created the Nigeria of today. The corruption, the violence, poverty... it's all thanks to the British. Am pretty sure the kings, chiefs, ezes, obas etc. didn't ask for the white man to destroy and wreck havoc in their lands, but they still did it anyway. Buhari now licks the feet of the same people who made Nigerian youths some of the most hard-struggling people on earth. Why do you think youths become agberos and the likes? It's because they don't have a choice - they have nowhere to turn. Buhari sef is sipping the sweet hydrocarbon money from some of the best crude oil one can find on this earth. Yet, the average Nigerian does not benefit at all, even the educated ones. It is clear to me that even an olodo, such as Buhari, can become a president. |
KillerBeauty:Pretty much. But the question is: how hard is it to learn the basics of Norwegian? Any hardworking student can do it easily during their degree. A little intermingling with other Norwegian students a few times a week and similar stuff, and you should be good to go in less than a year. However, if you go without attending university, then you better have something that sets you apart. Not worth it IMO to waste your money on such a gamble. You can do more with that money in Nigeria. |
HeyCorleone:Ehen, good point. Also, let's not forget the $300 billion sef which has dissapeared since the 60's from the hydrocarbon industry in this country. Nigeria has massive reserves of oil and gas, but no one ever benefits from the billions of dollars we receive every year. The 0.1% corrupt politicians are taking it all. A giant indeed, but a corrupt one, unfortunately. |
Obafemi once said that Nigeria "is a mere geographical expression". Na true, even today. We have not come far. |
Nice pics, but they do not represent reality. Go to sururele and ojuelegba sef and see for yourself. As everywhere else in Nigeria, there are some nice buildings here and there, but do you really think the general Nigeria population has access to or benefits from these facilities? Rara o, ore mi. |
Probz:The same still applies. Culturally confident people won't readily adapt foreign names. There is no "practicality" in taking a white man's name; it's all for assimilating oneself into becoming one. Stuff like this only happens in former colonial states, nowhere else. You have clearly become an oyinbo though. Even labeling people as "primitive" based on their names. Lmao, only in Africa. |
Probz:OK. Abeg, so you see the French or the Germans discarding their culture and language for the sake of English? Rara o. You are inept if you think that is the case. English in Nigeria goes far beyond the scope of "practicality". English culture and language is seen as the epitome of success in this country sef. Dressing like a westerner, eating, talking and acting like one means one is "civilized" in Nigeria. See the parents who refuse to teach their children their mothertongues, and see the literal adaptation of western-style education in this country. Literally everything here is built upon the british' way of life. If you are a villager, you are a loser. Because you live the traditional way, free of massive wasteful consumption, you are deemed inferior. Who is really inferior though, the olodo who cannot think for himself and has to bow down to his colonial masters, or the villager who sustains this country through his hard work? The reason this country cannot progress is because of the olodos thinking they are better than their ancestors. At last I must congratulate the British for successfully breaking the African mind and creating a political elite of white man's slaves who will do anything to speak their language and be like them when we should be more like the villager. |
They're asking why Igbo is dying and yet they are speaking in Engrish? Ok. The truth is that the enviroment in Nigeria is such that it promotes English over any other language, thus you'll have poor people looking for social mobility by disgarding their native tongues in favour of English. Some groups of people may be worse off than others, but the problem is essentially the same all over Nigeria. It's not really a complicated issue. The reason I know this was because I was also denied the opportunity to learn my native language, thus I am buying books off the internet to learn what I can. |
Udopasa:When it comes to PhDs, most of the time you'll be a part of research fellowships which will grant you the needed funding and which equals employment. A PhD thus requires no funding out of your own pockets, at least not most of the time. One example: https://www.uio.no/english/research/phd/before-applying/ |
Misblah:Can't find the scholarship that you mention. But as always: scholarships are competitive, and there's no way of knowing your chances without info on yourself and the specifics of the scholarship. Claiming anything else would be deception pretty much. I assume you've considered your chances before applying, so I think that you can probably answer the question better than anyone on NL. With that said, if you do believe you have reasonable chances, I'd say it's worth it. If you get the scholarship you have basically nothing to lose by going anyway. You get to see a new country and make new friends. I speak only for myself, but I've found that connecting with people from other parts of the world is quite elightening, especially in the context of education. Norway is a welcoming country too. |
AfriRenaissance:Bee ni o. |
trilobite:Alright, that is pretty good to know. Hopefully they'll have a solution should the issue still be at hand. Thanks for sharing, Trilobite! Glad to see people sharing and helping each other, |
trilobite:Not sure. Should be specified on their application page, but I think most require them to be sent directly from your institution. I would probably ask them directly and explain the situation about this strike sef. |
kassidy07:You ask a vague and extremely general question. You get sense, abi? Be respectful of other people's time as the elders surely must have taught you in your youngest days. You can literally google "list of universities in Norway" and a myriad of options will appear before you. Not sure which one to pick? Google "cities in Norway" and do your own research. You can't expect people to dig up information for you which is already readily available for anyone with an internet connection. Most schools list detailed guides as to how to proceed with your application. Now, when you have done your research on the country, and found a selected few institutions to which you want to apply, you are free to ask questions which are more specific and more easily answerable. |
trilobite:Yes, you must send them within the deadline as they are a part of your application. They can't consider your application without all the required documentation. They don't require hard-copies from all countries, but they do for Nigerians for the most part. |
Good afternoon fellow nairalander,Just out of interest - how do you plan on paying your expenses if you're not yourself in posession of the required funds? From time to time it appears a few posts that want to circumvent the rules. Technically speaking, 100k NOK is below the povery line set by the Norwegian government. In order words, students are often considered to be poor. Consider for a minute what this actually entails. First of all, it entails that you have very little in terms of purchasing power. Indeed I find this to be true: After having bought food and other necessities, you are left with very little. Should any unexpected expenses arise you do not have a whole lot to go on. I recommend no one to attempt circumventing the requirements or borrowing money you do not have. You will arrive to an extremely miserable experience. The requirements are there for a reason. With that said, I am sure that the sponsor's money will not be transfered back to his or hers account, but directly to a Norwegian bank account in your name only after the disposal into the university's account. The sole condition where the money will be transfered back is if you don't start studying. So let's not spread misinformation. |
Nothing new that these artists are high on themselves and flash their wealth - often (ironically enough) with poverty in the landscape of their videos. Videos like Wizkid's Ojuelegba are rare gems. The lyrics in many of these songs are completely senseless and stupid. They show how the African society has been corrupted by greed and materialistic tendencies. Still Nigerians cherish these people. One can only wonder why. |
If everyone did like this guy, there would be no poverty in Nigeria. Instead we have billionaires buying jet airplanes and feeding foreign countries with money instead of giving back to the country that fostered them. Disgusting creatures. God bless all those who try to make a difference. |
thesicilian:Very true. |
Probz:It's not a theory when you say: So that is not enough proof against the obviousA theory is also a set of assumptions, nothing more. With that said, these oyinbo threads are always interesting, but they never bear with them anything fruitful. Basically you just end up arguing for no reason. I quietly exit the discussion, my friends. |
