Pretty straight forward, but you need to stay in the country for a set amount of years to obtain permanent residence if that is what you seek. holyboss:2.415M Naira is the exact amount. Obiwannn:I'd say Norway definitely (easier). The unemployment rate in Germany is 4,9%, while it is 3.4% in Norway. I have never been to Germany so my opinion on the matter probably wouldn't reflect reality, but it's probably tougher as it's a bigger country going through rough times. 1 Like |

adenewton1:If you're using secondary school as a base for your application, then that is accepted. If you're using higher education as a base, then you need scanned copies for your original documents. A sponsors account is fine, but the money must be transfered to the school's account anyway. 2000USD will not be enough Part time work is easy enough if you know the language somewhat. |

O ye mi o. I do wonder. I admit I don't have much knowledge on the subject. It is however, quite interesting that the word follows the usual word pattern, i.e CVCVCV. I wonder if it has been altered or adjusted to fit, or if it is indeed unaltered. Ronu, ronu. |

Culture / Re: What Is Preventing Africa From Experiencing A Cultural Renaissance? by StarFlux: 9:38pm On Nov 01, 2014 |
The reason is that we were deprived of our chance to progress standing on our own two feet through colonization (but that is in the past now). Today there is little to nothing keeping us from developing on our own while maintaining our languages. I think everyone's too busy attempting to aquire material wealth. This is a huge problem in Nigeria especially - parents exclusively teaching their children Western values and ways of speech, instead of passing on the rich African heritage we posess. Our leaders need to stop sucking up to the white man and remove all multinational corporations from our borders. We won't progress as long as our wealth is stolen by these greedy leeches. We need to build our own expertise and stop relying on people that want to drag us down. Abeg, make una understand 1 Like |
Culture / Re: She Chose Teacher Education Over Yoruba Language... by StarFlux: 8:50pm On Sep 06, 2014 |
I dey wonder o. Yoruba is a big language in development. The problem as it is now is that we are seeing an increase in people abandoning their language. Imagine being able to go abroad and teach your tongue which you have known from birth to other people - what an opportunity. These are youths without ambition, unable to see through this narrow minded scope Nigeria has crafted for itself and its people. O ma se o. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYQE08sJ57s |

amii131: hi greetings to everyone i have been following up on these thread am so thankful to everyone that give up their time to reply .I believe most health related degrees aren't that competitive. I will provide some links to available programmes: http://www.uio.no/english/studies/programmes/#topic=helsefag-medisin&type= http://www.uib.no/en/education/50057/masters-programmes-self-financing http://en.uit.no/studies/program?p_document_id=271255 http://www.uin.no/english/study/coursecatalogue/masterprogrammes/Pages/Master-in-Nursing-and-Health-Practice.aspx Perhaps a bit vague. Let me know. All schools are viable for a job after admission. |

kennycanny: I am just wondering , going by this Norway trend, Is it that Norway is not attractive enough for Nigerian students or people are not just aware. Or is there anything chasing folks away from Norway.Probably just because it's a relatively small country. People see big stars from UK and the US and think those countries are synonymous with success without considering other options. 3 Likes |

Inxyz:Indeed. We've all been there. kennycanny: Hello all, especially to Staflux, INXYZ, ashimiyu ,and other peeps that have been sacrificing their time to contribute valuably to this trend. Pls I need advice/guidance from those that have good knowledge about going about studying in Norway.Hello. I would recommend Oslo and NTNU as a first choices in your case. Here you have a simple list of available Master's programmes at University of Oslo (filtered): http://www.uio.no/english/studies/programmes/#topic=jus-okonomi-ledelse-administrasjon&type= NTNU: http://www.ntnu.edu/studies/imp/admissions You might have to broaden your wishes though - there aren't THAT many economy studies offered by public universities compared to private ones. Interesting that you mentioned Canada, seems very backwards. 1 Like 1 Share |

Google is what it is: you find that which you are looking for. It's not an objective or particularly clever way to obtain knowledge. If you use Google as a base of your posts, then that's ludicrous. Norway is not a racist country, speaking from first hand experience. Unemployment rates are higher (but still very low generally speaking) among foreigners for an ocean of different reasons. It has to do with effort, defiance and refusal to do well in a new society - not racism. There's a chance you'll feel left out if you: 1. Don't speak the language and don't put any effort into learning it. 2. Unhealthy attitudes and too high expectations (silver platter). 3. Lack of or inability to adapt. This doesn't mean you have to change yourself. It's like you walking into a mono-lingual Nigerian village expecting everyone to accept you at first glance. Not going to happen, yet it is not racism. A person that wants to do well in Norway, will do well. It's that simple. There are always some bumps while on the road. It's completely up to each one of us if we choose to let them drag us down. Anyway, glad to see the thread is still active. Feel free to post (repost) your inquiries, and I'm very sorry if I forgot to reply or missed it from previously. 5 Likes |

Inxyz:Haven't been there in person, but from what I've heard and seen, it's supposedly quite a nice place. There's also some fascinating nature experiences close by, especially Preikestolen (the preacher's pulpit). Study enviroment should be good as well, with a healthy amount of international students. 2 Likes |

EazyWiz: StarFlux, I am due in Oslo come August. How much would you recommend I carry in cash or have handy in some other form (ATM accessible) for the first 2 weeks of my stay while I attempt to access my student deposit? Also, would you recommend that I see to the better part of my clothing needs before arrival or after arrival (probably pay a visit to one of the city's flea markets)?I recommend filling out your wardrobe beforehand as long as it isn't going overboard. The reason is that the markets around town do hold cheap clothing, with varying quality (mostly pretty bad unless you're looking for plain t-shirts and such), but if you want better quality clothing (as seen in normal retail stores), it is more pricey. As for how much, around 200k should put you in the safe zone. I wouldn't expect you to use that much at all, but you honestly never know. |

jidowu:Yes, I'm sorry. As far as I've seen - there are no real real estate master's programmes or related fields offered in English. This is mostly due to people going for real estate takes only the bachelor and then works for 2 years which yields them the title. I'll ask around, but right now it doesn't look too good, unless you widen your study interests somewhat, unfortunately. ewere101:Then you can apply for a skilled worker visa, then problem is that you'll need a job offer. The best and easiest way is through education, as already stated. http://www.udi.no/en/want-to-apply/work-immigration/skilled-workers/ |

tempem: Recently I read a Yoruba journal and there instead of awakò=Driver it was represented as direba!Anglicisation. Haven't you watched these Yoruba movies where literally 60-70% of the spoken language is actually English. It's sad really. Yoruba has the agglutinative features to make it ideal for creating new words effortlessly. That as well as the already existing words. "Direba, dokita, skuulu" is only the beggining I'm afraid. Fluency among youths is bottom low which is why you see these bastardized words making it into the language. 1 Like |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJRnvxPMuA8&index=2&list=PLVmwQqYSq4rmHls_3e3RNtwiWswYyIC9b Fact of the day: Norwegian is actually a tonal language similar to many Nigerian languages such as Edo and Yoruba (though it is not as reliant on these tones to make yourself clear as these other two languages). However, tonal markings are absent in writing. You already have an advantage if you speak your native tongue. |
