omopapa: It’s the naughtiness of the kids born here that scares me. Someone once told me flicking ur index finger as a sign of warning is seen as a “weapon” You can't do that o. It is an abuse. I once tapped my student at the back as a way of making her concentrate in class and it was called an abuse. Just teach and ignore their naughtiness. Students have power more than Teachers , and the law is always in their favour, unlike what we have in Nigeria. |

Mamatukwas: It will be difficult to persuade someone that feels defrauded. Imagine the man thinking he married a graduate and most likely has told all & sundry.. only to find out it was a bit of a scam. He will feel terrible. Understandably so. Now is not the time to convince. It’s time to beg and say sorry I don't blame her but let me blame the husband that didn't know the wife is never a graduate. How about NYSC? Course mates? Graduation ceremony? So many red flags for the man to have noticed such. |

AltCtrlDel: Good day all,
Pls I need advices on behalf of my sister. Her husband wants her to relocate to the UK with the children by going through education route (Master's). However, she didn't complete her University degree having discovered it was a fake admission in year 2.
Now the problem is, she never told her husband and she's very remorseful about it. Although she's willing to tell him but It might be disastrous if she does that right now.
Pls what course can she do in the UK with her 90's WAEC certificate taking the education gap into consideration and coupled with the fact that she needs to bring her children along?

teeebest: @STENON, Do I need PGDE transcript to teach in Scotland?
I have Bsc, PGDE & Msc in Mathematics. I'm planning to start PGCE SECONDARY MATHEMATICS this September in UK. Yes , and it is even better if you have transcripts for all those qualifications. Why are you going for another PGCE when you already have one ? Best is to go for MSc in an additional support needs discipline as most schools always look for ASN STEM Teachers and I wanted to share a link with you but the site is under maintenance now.

MissOwaa: Thank you ma, luckily I was just able to confirm that I can apply for physics teaching jobs in Secondary schools with Primary studies QTs. That they will take me as long as I have relevant experience and can deliver. Hmmmm... I hope this is true. I know it is true for Secondary Teacher applying for primary teaching, but I am not sure about this as it is not applicable to Scotland. |

kaylov12: Primary PGCE is quite vast, more than Secondary. Despite specialising in Mathematics you will still.learn about some more primary subject cos as a primary teacher, you'll take ownership of your classroom.
I learnt Secondary PGCE gives you opportunity to teacher both primary and secondary. I would have strongly advised that you do Secondary Physics, it's the highest subject in demand as far as I am concerned. Not too many people teach triple science. Yes, You are very right. Their is shortage of Physics Teachers in UK, it is even part of the jobs on the Shortage occupation list for sponsorship visa. With my BSc (Ed) Physics Education, The way my school just dey overpamper me with juicy offers ehnn, they just don’t want me to leave the school even after seeing many other opportunities. Now na to enrol for a fully funded course in Inclusive Education to be fully qualified as an Additional Support Needs (ASN) Teacher. Considering the fact that she already has BEd and TRCN in Physics Education plus MSc Psychology. I won't advice her to go for the PGCE in primary Education because the job opportunities will be limited for her. She can easily apply for GTCS in Scotland to become a well qualified Mathematics and Physics Teacher. The truth is ; if you are very good in STEM subjects, You won't beg or suffer before getting a very good job in UK. |

MissOwaa: Thank you, I’m coming with my spouse he’s an IT specialist. The school is in London and London is really expensive. My questions: 1) My school is full time, Monday - Friday! 9-4 pm. This means I might only be able to work weekends! Please what opportunities are available for weekend jobs and any idea of the rates? 2) Also accommodation in London is pretty expensive Any ideas about cheap studio places we can stay that’s close to London or cities can we stay outside London where I can still commute to school. what's your PGDE subject? You can also let your husband enrol for a PGCE in IT for colleges later on |

MissOwaa: Thank you for your response and advice.
1) University courses starts in September 9-4pm and by October I will be placed in a school till January. I'll return back to class then go for another school placement by February till April. Okay, that's good. Please for the sake of your tier 4 visa, they can not pay more than 20 hours for you, but try and negotiate with the school to let it be pro rata on the legal pay scale for probationary Teachers and not per hourly pay. With that you are covered for your salary payment during secondary school holidays like Christmas, easter, mid term, and bank Holidays. Opportunities also include organising a weekend tutorials in your neighbourhood like this. https://www.saturdayschoolglasgow.com/?utm_source=yell&utm_medium=refferal&utm_campaign=yell |

Do you mean you'd be posted to a secondary school as a probationary teacher from 9am to 4pm? Is it a salaried placement or not ? If no, you can work on weekend..if yes, ask for a pro rata salary for your 20 hours with the school. Opportunities like registering with tutorful.co.uk to be doing online Maths lesson or home lessons. 2. Yes, you can. But it is easier and better to always stay closer to your school or workplace. |

I am Waiting for The lockdown on schools to be lifted so I can complete my Masters in Educational Psychology. I just have my external defense left. I have more than 4 years as a physics teacher in Nigeria though in a private school and I have a year plus experience as an educational psychologist working with students. Please how can I apply to the U.K. as A teacher and what do I need to help aid the process. Thank you. I got your PM, sorry, I am happy to answer your questions here please. I am selective with responding to people based on my experience here. You have good and most sought-after certificates. Physics Education plus Psychology. Wow... Bravo!! Best option is to apply for MSc just to be able to get student visa and be eligible to work. It is very impossible to be able to get an employer who is willing to sponsor work visa for you directly from Nigeria. |

TEODIN: Hello STENON, about 1 year ago you gave me an advice concerning my sister, you adviced she runs a pgd in education and get registered with TRCN.. she is rounding up her PgD and registration with TRCN in 2 months, she has about 10 years experience in Education and studied Computer science/Maths in her Bachelor’s but just been promoted to the role of Head Teacher for a very good school. please what do you advise as the next step towards actualizing her dream to move to the Uk, Thanks and hope to read your response I am happy to read this. Congratulations to her. Best thing is for her spouse to apply for MSc admission while she apply for a dependant visa to work full time , convert her TRCN to GTCS in Scotland, apply for Mathematics job and she can be working full time and working towards PR. |

djo120920: Thank you dear STENON.
I will take your suggestion. But I fear the market will be oversaturated with English teachers. What do you think? And what are the chances of gaining a job (leading to Tier 2 visa and ultimately ILR) with the QTS award?
My initial plan was to come study MSc Social Research and then go on to conduct academic research at the PhD level. I already got admission for that. But I also love teaching, especially in the classroom. And someone mooted the idea of the QTS to me. I'm about to start applying for that. Can you point me towards some universities that offer PGCE with QTS? I've seen a couple, like Reading, Coventry, and Kingston. I'd like to see if there are others as well.
Thank you again this got me laughing, You can always join the saturated market and be the best among them all. Many people are coming to UK, USA, Canada etc from countries where English is not their first or second language . I am sorry as I don't actually have any information about the schools that are offering PGDE in England. |

djo120920: Thank you for your response.
I am open to suggestions at the moment.
I did Mass Comm at both BA and MA level. So I think English is the most obviously logical option.
However, I would actually love to teach Mathematics, as I believe I'm quite good in it. Had A1 in Maths in WAEC, NECO, and GCE. But I don't know if my degrees will not shut the door on that.
Primary? Secondary? Anyone is good for me.
Thank you again Based on your degree, I think English is the best option for you. You stand a better chance at secondary than primary level |

djo120920: Hello all
@justwise @stenon @Lagosismyhome
I want to teach in the UK, but I've not been a teacher here in Nigeria. So I have a number of questions to ask:
1. Can I come over for the PGCE with QTS? Will I get a Student Visa to study that? And will my dependants be eligible to come with me, seeing as it is not a Master's?
2. Will I be able to get teaching jobs after the program, even with my PSW? So I can switch visas easily?
3. I did Mass Comm at the Undergrad level. Thank you
Stenon 1.What PGDE subject are you applying for? Is it Primary or secondary Teaching? It is a postgraduate course not an undergraduate course so your dependant should be able to come with you. 2. Yes and No. E.g Mathematics has higher job prospects than Enonomics |
