MissOwaa: Good day, Please I’m a Physics Education Graduate with TRCN Certification. I am Waiting for The lockdown on schools to be lifted so I can complete my Masters in Educational Psychology. I just have my external defense left. I have more than 4 years as a physics teacher in Nigeria though in a private school and I have a year plus experience as an educational psychologist working with students. Please how can I apply to the U.K. as A teacher and what do I need to help aid the process. Thank you. Hi Dear, I am sorry for replying late. It is easier and better to get student visa and come over first , but no employer will be happy to sponsor a Teacher directly from Nigeria. You must be registered with the respective UK Teaching Council and it is very competitive due to virus outbreak and lockdowns, all exams have been cancelled for 2021 , most schools are not looking at employing new Teacher for this academic session . |

Bukad: Hello house and happy new year. I was offered MSc Civil Engineering at UWS, Paisley for September intake, but due to Covid-19 and other challenges, I deffered the admission. Currently looking at Teeside uni for the same course with advanced parcatice (18 months with placement) come September. Wifey studied Bus. Edu(with TRCN,2016). Please, what's life like in Middlesbrough as compared to Paisley, marketability prospect of my course and possible employment for both wifey and I. Sincerely appreciate your responses. Thanks.
@Justwise @Stenon Hmmm... You have better chance in Paisley, Scotland than anywhere in England. England is expensive for family man and also over populated with too many professionals and MSc is not the key to entering Engineering Professional body or work zone in England and Scotland but very easy and less competitive to get the job in scotland . Your wife must go for PGDE or AQTS in England before she can practice as a teacher. |

LagosismyHome: £20 to £25 hrs per hour job for a student who just came ....... hummmm This is extremely rare and very far in between.
However, this minimum wage range £9 × 50hours × 22 weeks = 9900 , this very possible pre covid time . But you gat to pay rent and chop food Exactly!! Whereas someone is saying it is not possible. Rent and food all depends on how you want it... I have seen a student living alone in a studio flat, one bedroom flat, shared one/two bedroom apartment, where they even converted the living room to a bedroom for another student Cook by yourself and don't eat out in order to help your savings. Post Covid plus Post lockdown plus Post brexit = 2021, We go survive am |

reincarnation: Minimum wage is £8+/hr There are jobs for £9-£11.
Let's say you get a £9/hr job. 20 hours gives you £180 a week. Sometimes you might not get all 20 hours. So let's work with 17 hours.
17 hours gives you £153 a week, and £612 a month. If your rent is £300-£350 pcm (I will peg it at £325), you are left with £287.
If you spend £30 weekly on feeding, you are left with £167 for that month.
In 10 months, you would have saved £1670. How much is the rest of the tuition?
During Christmas break, you can get 3 weeks holiday, during Easter break you can get 2 weeks holiday. These breaks are when you can work unlimited hours, and you will be taxed. If you get £400/wk after tax, that's £2k for the total break. Deduct rent, feeding and miscellaneous from it.
These monies will come in piecemeal, not in one block. You will receive several mails from your school to meet up with your payment plan. Remember There are jobs for £20-£25 /hr. You can get 20 hours/week paid contract job. For January entry, How about working 50 hours per week during school break from May - September ? = 9 × 50hours × 22 weeks = 9900 pounds just for May- September. I am sure the 20 hours school term wages should be enough to pay for moderate accommodation and other bills . |

toyclicks: Hi Fam.
Wow! Good to drop in here as a testifier to this place. Hope y'all doing fine.
Ok so....quick one. Let me share my experiences so far I now understand why ppl abroad find it difficult to have time. You almost have to plan your breath. Time is really a scarce commodity here. I don't know how all the good ppl here @justwise, @mimilyrics, @stenon et all. I don't know how you find time for this forum ooo. You were and are still a blessing. Whatever way you have been able to keep squeezing out the time to help ppl here, I would say its worth every part of it. Being a part if so many ppl's life journey and being a blessing to them is worth all the effort. So pls as God helps you, don't get tired.
Now....let me say this bitter truth. A bitter truth that ppl on this forum have quarrelled with Justwise for saying. This ppl included me.
This is not the best time to come to the Uk.. IOW, if you have the means to still chill in Nigeria for 6-12months, sadly, I would advise you to do so.
However, if you want to come and join us to whether this terrible tough period, I am not discouraging you. You are welcome.
Let he explain a bit. If your aim is really studying, don't come right now, else you won't get value for your money. The pandemic has really messed things up. The online class is BS. Even the schools don't know how to handle the situation yet. One other major thing is that networking is difficult. In 6 weeks I only had a class meeting once. Till now I only met one of my senior colleagues since I've been here. No one to come to your aid. You are all by yourself. Everyone is trying hard to survive. Everyone is really busy. No one has your time. No one is available to put you through things. This is when you will value trivial things like seeing your colleagues and lecturer to chat and discuss, holding physical meetings. Believe me, you can't fathom how much frustration this can be, esp when we are talking about something that involves more or less the biggest investment of your life yet. This new way of life has affected many things and not everyone is able to adjust to it.
Also, don't think the lecturers are available to help you. They are not available to "babysit" anybody. They expect at the masters level that you are really cooked and there are many things you are expected to know. Unfortunately for those of us coming from a place like Nigeria, believe me, we are really undercooked. Believe me, a primary school kid here will do much better than you. One of my coursemates confessed to me that it was her kids that helped her with her coursework when she couldn't get a hang of it. Her kids were born and grown here. So you get what I mean. It's so easy for them to flow. Long and short, there is so much catching up for you to do in order to come up to the same level with these ppl. ...And yes, ppl are really getting stranded. I already know ppl whom we moved together from this thread and left with the hope that they can hustle it out. They are getting stranded. Pls if you are coming at this period, you are better off with as much buffer finances as possible.
As regards jobs. There are jobs and there are no jobs. What do I mean? Jobs have really been reduced cos of the pandemic. However there are still some kind of jobs in some remote areas far from town. Transport cost on the long run might take a big chunk of the pay(like 30%). The distance is much( to is like 2½ hrs. Making 5hrs round trip for your job commute) hope you can understand now. The jobs are simply available there cos the location is far from availability of labor. So you count your cost.
I am just taking time to explain all these so you understand my reason for advising to chill a bit if you can
However, for all the ppl like me wet naija don tire. Make una dey come ooo abeg. We go rough am. We go survive.
I hope my msg is not all too negative. But I think it will be of good to you if you get the true and clear picture of things so you can make informed decisions.
I wish us all the best we can be.
Cheers to y'all. I hope to share more and sweeter experiences later I said exact same thing here some months ago and Justwise also said same... People were quick to judge us |

Afikoo: Good morning Nairalanders. I sure know you all fine.
I am writing this with heavy heart. I know we have super rich people here who rose from poverty to riches.
This life isn't balance. Done with school. Been working as security administrator in my church and I earn 80k. I have been planning on getting married. Have met my fiance Parents, they were happy. I have engaged her she is happy. All of a sudden the elder brother who isn't around is angry that I haven't spoken to him about my intention. I have earlier tried his line severallly and it isn't going through. Had to chat him and he told me I am not serious that I should grow up. A bullet in my heart.
Her mum has suddenly changed and is accusing me for not calling her always. This whole drama has gotten into my babe now she is talking about us suspending our marriage plan and try improving our income. (She is learning a skill)
I am fed up. Have suspended everything now. I have tried everything since I left school last year to improve my income. Apply for jobs here and there. Is just not cutting in.
Please, share your experience on how you were able to get out of this average life as a Nigerian.
Advise me and others still struggling to rise up. You can recommend jobs for me. I studied history and Diplomatic Studies. Have some certification in Leadership and human resource. Trust me, I can deliver on anything legal. I have the capacity, but haven't gotten the opportunity.
Patiently reading. Forget your babe and her family, enjoy your 80k with peace of mind. Be happy and don't be discouraged. Love is everywhere. Someone somewhere is praying to meet you soon... Na dem go dey rush you later when it is late |
