Liekiller: Let me make a suggestion: use your heart and common sense. Maybe also ASK YOURSELF WHAT JESUS WOULD HAVE DONE. Conclusion: pay school fees for a poor kid instead of making a scam pastor richer. Bring your Xmas goat to a poor family instead of to a rich pastor. Help the homeless get a home instead of financing yet another private jet for a scam pastor. Wouldn't that be the true Christian spirit?!?? while I will agree with you on this, you must to know that thith is an obligation you still do your charity if you like at the same time bring your tenth for God otherwise malachi says you are robbing God. |

Romance › Re: A Letter To Single Guys by StepG: 11:59am On Oct 18, 2014 |
kentozybee: A Letter To Single Men Hey guys, how are you doing? How has life fared with you lately?
The hustle and bustle of becoming a man ain't an easy job, I must confess! But with God and diligence in fulfilling purpose, we'll get there.
I write this letter to you to point out some things which you ought to know before marriage or as you continue in that relationship.
This letter is strictly for men, not boys or players. First concerning how you treat ladies. I know quite alright that ladies are emotional only few are not. Please, don't take advantage of that and inflict emotional pain on them.
If you know she's not going to be your wife, there’s no point promising her heaven and earth just to get her in bed. If you think you're smart, your smartness cannot prevent the nemesis or daring consequences that would one day catch up with you.
It's better you avoid the consequences of an action because of its few minutes pleasure than to face its agony and regrets in the near future. What are you doing about your life and future? I know it's trendy to go clubbing and indulge in all youthful exuberance. See, life doesn't go on a stretch forever and every time wasted cannot be recovered.
If at age 30 or close to it, you haven't define your life or you're still depending on friends, family or relatives, you need to work on yourself.
Where do you put God in your life? Consider God in the time of your youth before it's too late. Many of you who turned back on God will someday run back to Him for help. If you cannot dance to the devil's music, it's better you start learning God's steps. Hear this guys, love isn't sex! Don't tell a lady to prove her love to you because you want to have a 'taste' of her. I know everyone is going haywire with premarital sex but you can choose to abstain.
Apart from it being sin against God, it will make you vulnerable to STDs and some problems 'rubber' cannot prevent. It doesn't matter if she calls you names if you choose to abstain, or you become an object of mockery amongst your friends, run for your dear life.
Think about your future and life hereafter. Don't give your strength to strange women, preserve it for your wife.
Have you discovered your purpose in life? That very reason why God has created you? Jumping from one lady to another without discovering your purpose on earth will make you miserable and waste away in life.
Know your purpose in life and be on track to attain it's fulfillment before you think of going into a relationship. It's not difficult, it would only prevent you from distraction.
Watch the company of friends you keep. Are they contributing positively to your life or they are emptying you of virtues and opportunities? It's not a must you hang out with friends if you do not benefit from them. You can stand alone with God and make lasting impact than to keep dozens of friends with no footprints in the sand of time.
Man up guys! Build your financial, spiritual, mental and emotional life. Only a crazy man beats a woman even if she pushed you to the wall. There is a button of patience to press to control your anger. Work on your mental development. Read good books to acquire knowledge and skill. Get intimate with God so that your wife wouldn't become a victim of false prophets or you become a spiritual babe in handling matters of life at the homefront.
My guy, you're going to be a father someday. Don't do the things you wouldn't be proud of your son to emulate or would want anyone to do to your daughter.
If you wouldn't want to leave a bad legacy for your unborn children, don't tread the path now. I'd have love to tell you more but I believe you know the importance of life and time and I'm constrained due to space.
Don't waste away chasing every Tom, Dick and Harry for sex. Conserve your energies and channel it into a more productive cause in life. I hope the few wise ones would treasure this letter, share it or send it to a friend.
Thank you for your anticipated response as you make amends in areas where necessary. |

Eyop: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the second most common reason people visit their doctors each year. Men get UTIs, but they are much more common in women — more than eight million women head to their doctor for UTI treatment annually. And 20 percent of these women will get a second UTI.
If you’ve ever had a UTI, you’ll probably never forget the symptoms. It usually starts with a sudden and frequent need to visit the potty. When you get there, you can squeeze out only a little bit of urine, and that’s usually accompanied by a burning sensation in your bladder and/or urethra. In more extreme cases you may end up with fever, chills, back pain, and even blood in your urine.
The good news is that there are many home remedies you can try to prevent or remedy a UTI. Go to the next page to learn more. This information is solely for informational purposes. IT IS NOT INTENDED TO PROVIDE MEDICAL ADVICE. Neither the Editors of Consumer Guide (R), Publications International, Ltd., the author nor publisher take responsibility for any possible consequences from any treatment, procedure, exercise, dietary modification, action or application of medication which results from reading or following the information contained in this information. Before undertaking any course of treatment, the reader must seek the advice of their physician or other health care provider.
1. Baking Soda UTIs that last longer than two days require medical intervention. Untreated UTIs can infect the kidneys and turn into a much more serious problem. To help prevent a UTI from developing or nip one in the bud, try adding 1 teaspoon baking soda to a glass of water as it may help ease your infection. The soda neutralizes the acidity in your urine, speeding along your recovery.
2. Blueberries Blueberries and cranberries are from the same plant family and seem to have the same bacteria-inhibiting properties. In one study, blueberry juice was found to prevent UTIs. Since you’re not likely to find a gallon of blueberry juice at your local store, try sprinkling a handful of these flavorful, good-for-you berries over your morning cereal.
3. Cranberry Juice Many studies have found that drinking cranberry juice may help you avoid urinary tract infections. It appears that cranberry juice prevents infection-causing bacteria from bedding down in your bladder, and it also has a very mild antibiotic affect. Drinking as little as 4 ounces of cranberry juice a day can help keep your bladder infection-free. But if you tend to get UTIs or are dealing with one right now, try to drink at least 2 to 4 glasses of cranberry juice a day. If pure cranberry juice is just too bitter for your taste buds, you can substitute cranberry juice cocktail . It seems to have the same effect as the pure stuff. Take note: If you have a UTI, cranberry juice is not a replacement for doctor-prescribed antibiotics in treating your infection.
4. Pineapple Bromelain is an enzyme found in pineapples. In one study, people with a UTI who were given bromelain along with their usual round of antibiotics got rid of their infection. Half the people who were given a placebo plus an antibiotic showed no signs of lingering infection. Eating a cup of pineapple tastes good and may just help rid you of your infection.
5. Water If you tend to get urinary tract infections, be sure to drink plenty of water — about 8 eight-ounce glasses a day. You should be urinating at least every four to five hours. If you are currently dealing with an infection, drink buckets of water to fight it off. Drink a full 8 ounces of water every hour. The river of water in your system will help flush out bacteria by making you urinate more frequently. You can also heat up some water on the stove and pour it into a hot water bottle. Place the water bottle on your lower abdomen to help ease any pain caused by the infection.
6. Vitamin C Some doctors are prescribing at least 5,000 mg or more of vitamin C a day for patients who develop recurrent urinary tract infections. Vitamin C keeps the bladder healthy by acidifying the urine, essentially putting up a no-trespassing sign for potentially harmful bacteria.
7. Do’s and Don’ts DO use it. When you’ve got to go, go. It sounds simple, but how many times have you held it — when you’re in a business meeting, when you’re stuck in traffic, when you’re at a concert and the lines are too long. If you hold your urine, you’re more likely to get a backup of bacteria and end up with an infection.
DO consider cotton. Anything that comes into close contact with any of those ultra-personal areas should be cotton. Women should wear cotton underwear or cotton-lined panty hose to help stay fresher and dryer. Guys should go for boxer shorts. DON’T drink alcohol. Alcohol is an irritant to your bladder, just what you don’t need when you’re dealing with an infection. DO cut the caffeine. Also avoid caffeine-loaded drinks such as caffeinated soda pop, coffee, and tea. Caffeine can irritate the bladder, which is the last thing you need when a UTI has taken hold.
DO pull out a nonprescription pain reliever. Taking acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or aspirin can help ease the pain during your infection. DO follow the rules for making love. If you have trouble with UTIs, be sure you and your partner clean up before making love. After you make love, head to the bathroom to urinate and get rid of any potentially harmful bacteria. And try using a condom instead of a diaphragm. Diaphragms may promote UTIs.
DO go with the flow. After urinating, be sure to wipe from front to back to keep bacteria from getting close to the urethra. These home remedies can help you prevent a UTI or eliminate one already in progress. However, be sure to check with your doctor, especially if a UTI lasts longer than two days. Romance › Re: How Shy People Flirt by StepG: 3:21pm On Sep 25, 2014 |
pasqal09: 1. Silent Witness Shy people will gladly take part in a conversation with their crush, but only as far as listening goes! You might notice that a shy person will never ask questions or delve deeper into your personality or interests - they just simply don't have the courage! Shy people will instead satisfy their curiosity by asking other people about you, or by checking out your social media pages for more information.
2. Cell Phone Flirting You probably realize by now that shy people aren't too great with the whole "flirting face-to-face thing". Another trick shy people use to flirt with is their cell phone or computer. They will find it extremely easy to be flirtatious over text message or via a chat session, but as soon as you see them in person they act disinterested or pretend they didn't see you just to avoid any awkwardness.
3. Favour Galore Have you got a shy friend who seems to always go out of their way to help you? Looks like this friend might have a little bit of a crush on you! Shy people will often do favors for the person they like, however they will mask these favors as simply "just trying to help out / be nice". To shy people, this is flirting.
4. The Friends Blanket Shy people seem so confident and sure of their feelings towards their crush whilst they are with their friends, but then as soon as it's just one-on-one time with their crush, they become all shy again! Shy people will often use their friends as a safety blanket, so if you find they act disinterested or distant while they're alone with you, this just means they find it hard to flirt without the back-up of their friends.
5. Laughing We've all come across someone like this - the person who laughs at absolutely everything! Often this laughter is a nervous laugh from a shy person, who feels that if they laugh at everything their crush says or does, then it will come across as flirting.
6. Starring Shy people sometimes even work up the courage to stare at their crush - gasp! The only problem with staring is that it has a 50/50 chance of being successful. Either the person being stared at will think it is a compliment because they find the person staring at them to be quite attractive, or stranger-danger alarm bells will ring in their head and they will find it creepy.
7. Stalking. While some shy people can only work up the courage to send a friend request on Facebook to their crush, others take it a little step further and may come across as being "stalkerish". This often includes multiple 'likes' of photos, statuses, wall posts, etc. The biggest hint that you've got an avid, but shy, fan on your hands? When they like your photos or statuses from years ago... |
Politics › Re: Fuel Scarcity: Oil Workers Suspend Strike by StepG: 11:20am On Sep 20, 2014 |
mmb: Nigerian oil workers suspended their five-day strike Friday after a meeting with the petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke. President Goodluck Jonathan had waded into the crisis Friday, directing Mrs. Alison-Madueke to immediately convene a meeting with striking oil workers’ unions. The meeting which began in the afternoon was ongoing at the presidential villa as of 7p.m. Friday. The meeting came as scarcity of fuel bit harder across the country. PREMIUM TIMES understood that the president had directed Mrs. Alison-Madueke to dialogue with the leaders of the two main oil workers unions, the Petroleum and National Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, and National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, over their grievances. The oil workers had downed tools over the management of their pensions. The unions also demanded the government to take Turn Around Maintenance of Nigeria’s four refineries more seriously. Other demands of the unions include the need for increased allocation of crude oil for local refining to help reduce the growing reliance on importation of petroleum products for domestic consumption. “Government has given a commitment to resolve all issues particularly the issue of Turn Around Maintenance and increment of allocation of crude oil,” the secretary of PENGASSAN, Bayo Oluwoshile told PREMIUM TIMES.

Business › Re: NNPC Moves To Avert Workers' Strike Over Pension by StepG: 1:30pm On Sep 16, 2014 |
lineviews: The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Monday said it had taken necessary measures to avert the proposed strike by the oil workers over unresolved pension issues.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Manager, Mr Ohi Alegbe, in Abuja on Monday.
The Corporation’s arm of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) had threatened to go on strike.
It stated that the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) had given a 12-month window for the corporation to comply with the Pension Reform Act 2014 as amended.
It explained that PENCOM had earlier directed the corporation to “immediately take all necessary steps to transit to the Contributory Pension Scheme under the PRA”.
It stated that PENCOM in a fresh directive dated Sept. 15 granted the NNPC a transition period of 12 months within which to ensure full compliance with the provisions of the PRA 2014.
It, therefore, appealed to the leadership of the industrial unions to exercise restraint while it embarks on extensive engagement with PENCOM to resolve the issues.
It stated that since the commencement of the scheme in 2006, the management and its staff had made a lot of sacrifice to maintain the existing scheme.
It stated that any premature cancellation of the scheme might lead to avoidable labour disaffection across board.
The statement acknowledged the existence of some funding gaps in the scheme.
It informed stakeholders that measures had since been put in place to steadily bridge the funding deficit which stood at N298 billion in 2010 and had now been provisionally reduced to N85 billion as at June, 2014.
According to the statement, NNPC is in the process of transferring additional real estate property valued at several billions of naira to the scheme which is currently before the NNPC board for approval.
“NNPC Pension Fund Limited has complied with the provisions of the PRA 2014 by transferring assets in equities, bonds, Certificates of Deposits and other marketable securities to the custody of Pension Funds Administrators for management as directed by PENCOM since 2006.
“The NNPC Pension Fund has demonstrated its capacity to manage the scheme successfully by managing pension assets of over N250 billion for over eight years.”
It stated that it had also maintained an excellent record of administering and paying over 9000 retirees as and when due.
The management called on members of the public not to engage in panic buying, assuring further that plans were on top gear to address the situation.

Education › Re: Why You Must Finish With At Least A 2.1 by StepG: 7:22pm On Sep 11, 2014 |
Olutola88: This piece is for those undergraduates that will like to seek for jobs after school but do not have solid connection. A 1st class or 2.1 will help you AVOID or ALLEVIATE the labour market frustration. Nevertheless, the ones that have influential parents, uncles and aunts can also take a cue from it because it is easier to help someone with a good result.
I am a recent graduate from a Nigerian Federal University. I finished with a strong 2.1 but I wish I made a 1st class. I would have made that First class if I were very hard working. I know many people are like me, they would have had better grades if they were more serious. What I'm saying in essence is that most of us are powerful beyond measures but we do not realize how powerful we could be.
Finishing with a 2.1 is just about having 3.5 out of total 5.0 CGPA. One can achieve this by mixing Bs with Cs in your courses. I had many friends that didn't have solid academic background, weren't very quick at learning but struggled to finish with 3.5, 3.6 after a lot of hard work. Not to talk of many of you that are sharp, it's just that you are too lazy. I was also a lazy brat but that's bygone because I've learnt my lessons.
As a result of the very high rate of unemployment in Nigeria, employers use all possible strategies to pre screen as many as possible applicants and the most popular is the class of degree.
9 out of every 10 Graduate Trainee adverts ask for a minimum of 2.1. The other thing they use in pre screening is age and many also require to have a minimum of 5 credits including maths and english @ one sitting for O'level.
Now let's analyze it: By the time KPMG, Ernst & Young, PWC, Akintola Deloitte, Shell, Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Total, Schlumberger, Diamond Bank, GTB, Zenith, First Bank, Nigerian Stock Exchange, P&G, Unilever, Honey well, Nestle, Cadbury, Guiness, Nigerian Breweries, Consolidated Breweries, PZ Cussons, etc all advertise graduate trainee positions and they all ask for a minimum of 2.1. How do you think someone that finished with a 2.2 will feel?
I'm currently observing NYSC and I've been applying for jobs. Many of my fellow corps members always ask me to share latest job openings with them but many of them have not been able to apply for any because they finished with below 2.1. I hope we all have an idea how frustrating this could be, for you not to have the privilege to prove yourself even when you might be better and more employable than some of us that finished with 2.1 and 1st class.
As I'm writing this piece, I have two friends that just got job offers from a reputable multinational company in Nigeria. Guess what? They are both still serving and will resume immediately after NYSC in October. You know what? One of them finished with a 1st class and the other with a strong 2.1.
I know some of you will ask about me, I'm also at the last stage of interview and I have reached some recruitment stages in other good companies. All I need is Almighty God's favour and your prayers can also help land a job offer in some days time *lol*.
Many of us have been misled. We've been made to believe that even if you finish with good grades, you still won't get a good job in Nigeria if you don't have connection. For those that will listen, I can confidently tell you that we still have Firms that act with INTEGRITY in Nigeria, Organizations that will hire you based on your abilities, Companies that will not compromise standards, Employers that will give you an offer without knowing even a gate man. Many Multinationals in Nigeria fall in that category. At least, I know of Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG) and Procter & Gamble(P&G). We have many others but those are the two I've had comprehensive experience with.
Finishing with a 2.1 is very easy only if one can put in the required effort and above all pray to God. For the atheists, just keep working hard, working smart and always have a destination. I know you will believe in God someday*lmao*
In Conclusion, one of the commonest things in life is seeing talented people that are unsuccessful. Many of us are gifted but we are just too lazy to make the best use of our potential. If Talent sleeps, Hard work will outshine Talent. words. |
Career › Re: 10 Reasons Why Everyone Needs A Bad Boss by StepG: 7:08pm On Sep 11, 2014 |
Nkwazema: Take a moment to think about the worst boss you’ve ever had.
Did she scream at you when you missed a deadline? Did he sit around with his feet on his desk all day? Was your boss so terrible that he or she motivated you to find a new job?
As you think about your worst boss, remember what you gained from the experience. Did you learn how to handle stressful situations at work? Did you learn how to become a better communicator?
Research shows 75 percent of employees believe their boss is the worst part of their job. Instead of dwelling on the negative aspects of your work situation, here are 10 reasons everyone needs a bad boss and what you can take away from the experience:
1. You learn how to do your very best work.
When you work for a bad boss, there is no room for mistakes. You learn how to triple-check your work so you don’t have to suffer the wrath of an unforgiving boss.
2. You learn how to interact with difficult personalities.
Was your boss lazy? Arrogant? Downright mean? If you’ve worked with some difficult personalities, you’ve probably learned how to cope with different attitudes.
3. You learn how to become more self-directed with projects.
With no one else to be your cheerleader, you have to learn how to motivate yourself. By now, you should be able to meet deadlines without having someone to push you.
4. You learn how to deal with office politics.
No one likes drama in the workplace, but sometimes it’s inevitable when you have a boss who thrives on politics.
If you’ve worked for boss who promotes office politics, you’ve learned how to handle yourself in a number of negative situations. Whether your boss played favorites or threatened you at work, you’re able to rise above the pressure and carry on with your work.
5. You learn how to read people.
By working for a bad boss, you were forced to understand your boss’s behavior and learn how to handle their moods swings.
6. You learn how to protect your success.
Sometimes, you have to do everything possible to protect yourself and the hard work you do. You’ve learned how to prevent people from stealing credit for your success.
7. You learn the value of workplace relationships.
When you can’t confide in your boss, you have to look elsewhere in the workplace for support and advice. You’ve learned the value of building strong relationships with your coworkers and creating a support system on your own.
8. You learn how to improve your communication skills.
Chances are, if you’ve worked for a bad boss, you’ve worked with someone who’s a poor communicator. This experience probably taught you the importance of being a transparent communicator, providing feedback, and expressing your needs in the workplace.
9. You learn what not to do when leading others.
Sometimes, it takes a bad example of leadership to teach you how to become a better leader.
By working for a bad boss, you’ve probably learned ineffective ways of leading others. Because of these lessons, you’ve figured out ways to lead teams in the right direction.
10. You learn how to be more creative.
When you can’t ask for help from your boss or you don’t have the tools you need to successfully perform your job, you have to get creative. If you’ve had a bad boss, you’ve probably learned how to be resourceful and make the most of what you already have.
What important lessons have you learned from having a bad boss? |

Just a small amount of it on the area could remove the blemish within a few hours. Just follow the link and you will be left without pimples for sure. Although many people insist that water alone will get all that out, it is not the truth. Toothpaste actually cleans out all the dirt caught in the glasses because its slight abrasive texture ensures that dirt in tiny spots is removed for clear visibility. All you need to do is take a dab of toothpaste and wipe the lens with it for a couple of minutes using a soft cloth. Rinse and wipe after cleaning and the result will be a clean, clear and smooth pair of sunglasses. |

Nairaland General › Re: 37 Things You’ll Regret When You’re Old by StepG: 8:51am On Sep 03, 2014 |
collins123: 1. Not traveling when you had the chance.
Traveling becomes infinitely harder the older you get, especially if you have a family and need to pay the way for three-plus people instead of just yourself.
2. Not learning another language.
You’ll kick yourself when you realize you took three years of language in high school and remember none of it.
3. Staying in a bad relationship.
No one who ever gets out of a bad relationship looks back without wishing they made the move sooner.
4. Forgoing sunscreen.
Wrinkles, moles, and skin cancer can largely be avoided if you protect yourself.
5. Missing the chance to see your favorite musicians.
“Nah, dude, I’ll catch TuBaba next time they come through town.” Facepalm.
6. Being scared to do things.
Looking back you’ll think, What was I so afraid of?
7. Failing to make physical fitness a priority.
Too many of us spend the physical peak of our lives on the couch. When you hit 40, 50, 60, and beyond, you’ll dream of what you could have done.
8. Letting yourself be defined by gender roles.
Few things are as sad as an old person saying, “Well, it just wasn’t done back then.”
9. Not quitting a terrible job.
Look, you gotta pay the bills. But if you don’t make a plan to improve your situation, you might wake up one day having spent 40 years in hell.
10. Not trying harder in school.
It’s not just that your grades play a role in determining where you end up in life. Eventually you’ll realize how neat it was to get to spend all day learning, and wish you’d paid more attention.
11. Not realizing how beautiful you were.
Too many of us spend our youth unhappy with the way we look, but the reality is, that’s when we’re our most beautiful.
12. Being afraid to say “I love you.”
When you’re old, you won’t care if your love wasn’t returned — only that you made it known how you felt.
13. Not listening to your parents’ advice.
14. Spending your youth self-absorbed.
You’ll be embarrassed about it, frankly.
15. Caring too much about what other people think.
In 20 years you won’t give a damn about any of those people you once worried so much about.
16. Supporting others’ dreams over your own.
Supporting others is a beautiful thing, but not when it means you never get to shine.
17. Not moving on fast enough.
Old people look back at the long periods spent picking themselves off the ground as nothing but wasted time.
18. Holding grudges, especially with those you love.
What’s the point of re-living the anger over and over?
19. Not standing up for yourself.
Old people don’t take shit from anyone. Neither should you.
20. Not volunteering enough.
OK, so you probably won’t regret not volunteering Hunger Games style, but nearing the end of one’s life without having helped to make the world a better place is a great source of sadness for many.
21. Neglecting your teeth.
Brush. Floss. Get regular checkups. It will all seem so maddeningly easy when you have dentures.
22. Missing the chance to ask your grandparents questions before they die.
Most of us realize too late what an awesome resource grandparents are. They can explain everything you’ll ever wonder about where you came from, but only if you ask them in time.
23. Working too much.
No one looks back from their deathbed and wishes they spent more time at the office, but they do wish they spent more time with family, friends, and hobbies.
24. Not learning how to cook one awesome meal.
Knowing one drool-worthy meal will make all those dinner parties and celebrations that much more special.
25. Not stopping enough to appreciate the moment.
Young people are constantly on the go, but stopping to take it all in now and again is a good thing.
26. Failing to finish what you start.
“I had big dreams of becoming a nurse. I even signed up for the classes, but then…”
27. Never mastering one awesome party trick.
You will go to hundreds, if not thousands, of parties in your life. Wouldn’t it be cool to be the life of them all?
28. Letting yourself be defined by cultural expectations.
Don’t let them tell you, “We don’t do that.”
29. Refusing to let friendships run their course.
People grow apart. Clinging to what was, instead of acknowledging that things have changed, can be a source of ongoing agitation and sadness.
30. Not playing with your kids enough.
When you’re old, you’ll realize your kid went from wanting to play with you to wanting you out of their room in the blink of an eye.
31. Never taking a big risk (especially in love).
Knowing that you took a leap of faith at least once — even if you fell flat on your face — will be a great comfort when you’re old.
32. Not taking the time to develop contacts and network.
Networking may seem like a bunch of crap when you’re young, but later on it becomes clear that it’s how so many jobs are won.
33. Worrying too much.
As Tom Petty sang, “Most things I worry about never happen anyway.”
34. Getting caught up in needless drama.
Who needs it?
35. Not spending enough time with loved ones.
Our time with our loved ones is finite. Make it count.
36. Never performing in front of others.
This isn’t a regret for everyone, but many elderly people wish they knew — just once — what it was like to stand in front of a crowd and show off their talents.
37. Not being grateful sooner.
It can be hard to see in the beginning, but eventually it becomes clear that every moment on this earth — from the mundane to the amazing — is a gift that we’re all so incredibly lucky to share. |
Health › Re: When Your Body Start Aging by StepG: 4:56pm On Aug 25, 2014 |
fubbyy: When your body really starts aging
BRAIN Starts ageing at 20,As we get older, the number of nerve cells or neurons in the brain decrease, We start with around 100 billion, but in our 20s this number starts to decline. By 40, we could be losing up to 10,000 per day, affecting memory, co-ordination and brain function. In fact, while the neurons are important, it's actually the deterioration of the gaps between the brain cells that has the biggest impact, says Dr Wojtek Rakowicz, a consultant neurologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London. These tiny gaps between the end of one brain nerve cell and another are called synapses. Their job is to ensure the flow of information from one cell to another, and as we age we make fewer.
• BREASTS Start ageing at 35 BY their mid-30s, women's breasts start losing tissue and fat, reducing size and fullness. Sagging starts properly at 40 and the areola (the area surrounding the nipple) can shrink considerably. Although breast cancer risk increases with age, it's not related to physical changes in the breast. More likely, says Gareth Evans, breast cancer specialist at St Mary's Hospital, Manchester, our cells become damaged with age - as a result, the genes which control cell growth can mutate, causing cancer.
• BLADDER Starts ageing at 65 Loss of bladder control is more likely when you hit 65. The bladder starts to contract suddenly, even when it's not full. Women are more vulnerable to bladder problems as, after the menopause, declining oestrogen levels make tissues in the urethra - the tube through which urine passes - thinner and weaker, reducing bladder support. Bladder capacity in an older adult generally is about half that of a younger person - about two cups in a 30-year-old and one cup in a 70- year-old. This causes more frequent trips to the loo, particularly as poor muscle tone means the bladder may not fully empty. This in turn can lead to urinary tract infections. • LUNGS Start ageing at 20 Lung capacity slowly starts to decrease from the age of 20. By the age of 40, some people are already experiencing breathlessness. This is partly because the muscles and the rib cage which control breathing stiffen up. It's then harder to work the lungs and also means some air remains in the lungs after breathing out - causing breathlessness. Aged 30, the average man can inhale two pints of air in one breath. By 70, it's down to one.
• VOICE Starts ageing at 65 Our voices become quieter and hoarser with age. The soft tissues in the voice box (larynx) weaken, affecting the pitch, loudness and quality of the voice. A woman's voice may become huskier and lower in pitch, whereas a man's might become thinner and higher.
• EYES Start ageing at 40 Glasses are the norm for many over-40s as failing eyesight kicks in - usually long- sightedness, affecting our ability to see objects up close. As we age, the eye's ability to focus deteriorates because the eyes' muscles become weaker, says Andrew Lotery, professor of ophthalmology at the University of Southampton.
• HEART - Starts ageing at 40 The heart pumps blood less effectively around the body as we get older. This is because blood vessels become less elastic, while arteries can harden or become blocked because of fatty deposits forming on the coronary arteries - caused by eating too much saturated fat. The blood supply to the heart is then reduced, resulting in painful angina. Men over 45 and women over 55 are at greater risk of a heart attack. A recent study by Lloyds Pharmacy found the average person in the UK has a 'heart age' five years older than their chronological age, probably due to obesity and lack of exercise.
• LIVER Starts ageing at 70 This is the only organ in the body which seems to defy the ag ing process. 'Its cells have an extraordinary capacity to regenerate,' explain David Lloyd, a consultant liver surgeon at Leicester Royal Infir mary. He says he can remove ha a liver during surgery and it will grow to the size of a complete liver within three months. If a donor doesn't drink, use drug or suffer from infection, then it is possible to transplant a 70-year-old liver into a 20-year-old.
• KIDNEYS Starts ageing at 50 With kidneys, the number of filtering units (nephrons) that remove waste from the bloodstream starts to reduce in middle age. One effect of this is their inability to turn off urine production at night, causing frequent trips to the bathroom. The kidneys of a 75-year-old person will filter only half the amount of blood that a 30-year- old's will.
• PROSTATE Starts ageing at 50 The prostate often becomes enlarged with age, leading to problems such as increased need to urinate, says Professor Roger Kirby, director of the Prostate Centre in London. This is known as benign prostatic hyperplasia and affects half of men over 50, but rarely those under 40. It occurs when the prostate absorbs large amounts of the male sex hormone testosterone, which increases the growth of cells in the prostate. A normal prostate is the size of a walnut, but the condition can increase this to the size of a tangerine.
• BONES Start ageing at 35 'Throughout our life, old bone is broken down by cells called osteoclasts and replaced by bone-building cells called osteoblasts - a process called bone turnover,' explains Robert Moots, professor of rheumatology at Aintree University Hospital in Liverpool. Children's bone growth is rapid - the skeleton takes just two years to renew itself completely. In adults, this can take ten years. Until our mid-20s, bone density is still increasing. But at 35 bone loss begins as part of the natural ageing process. This becomes more rapid in post-menopausal women and can cause the bone-thinning condition osteoporosis. The shrinking in size and density of bones can lead to loss of height. Bones in the back shrivel up or crumble between the vertebrae. We lose two inches in height by the time we're 80.
• TEETH Start ageing at 40 As we age, we produce less saliva, which washes away bacteria, so teeth and gums are more vulnerable to decay. Receding gums - when tissue is lost from gums around the teeth - is common in adults over 40.
• MUSCLES Start ageing at 30 Muscle is constantly being built up and broken down, a process which is well balanced in young adults. However, by the time we're 30, breakdown is greater than buildup, explains Professor Robert Moots. Once adults reach 40, they start to lose between 0.5 and 2 per cent of their muscle each year. Regular exercise can help prevent this.hmm
• HEARING Starts ageing mid-50s More than half of people over 60 lose hearing because of their age, according to the Royal National Institute for the Deaf. The condition, known as presbycusis, happens due to a loss of 'hair cells' - tiny sensory cells in the inner ear which pick up sound vibrations and send them to the brain.
• SKIN Starts ageing mid-20s The skin starts to age naturally in your mid-20s. According to Dr Andrew Wright, a consultant dermatologist with Bradford NHS Trust, as we get older production of collagen - the protein which acts as scaffolding to the skin - slows, and elastin, the substance that enables skin to snap back into place, has less spring and can even break. Dead skin cells don't shed as quickly and turnover of new skin cells may decrease slightly. This causes fine wrinkles and thin, transparent skin - even if the first signs may not appear until our mid-30s (unless accelerated by smoking or sun damage).
• TASTE AND SMELL Start ageing at 60 We start out in life with about 10,000 taste buds scattered on the tongue. This number can halve later in life. After we turn 60, taste and smell gradually decline, partly as a result of the normal ageing process. This can be accelerated by problems such as polyps in the nasal or sinus cavities. It can also be the cumulative effect of years of smoking.
• FERTILITY Starts ageing at 35 Female fertility begins to decline after 35, as the number and quality of eggs in the ovaries start to fall. The lining of the womb may become thinner, making it less likely for a fertilised egg to take, and also creating an environment hostile to sperm. Male fertility also starts to drop around this age. Men who wait until their 40s before starting a family have a greater chance of their partner having a miscarriage, because of the poorer quality of their sperm.
• HAIR Starts ageing at 30 Male hair loss usually begins in the 30s. Hair is made in tiny pouches just under the skin's surface, known as follices. A hair normally grows from each follicle for about three years, is then shed, and a new hair grows. However, with male-pattern baldness, changes in levels of testosterone from their early-30s affect this cycle, causing the hair follicles to shrink. Each new hair is thinner than the previous one. Eventually, all that remains is a much smaller hair follicle and a thin stump of hair that does not grow out to the skin surface. Most people will have some grey hair by the age of 35. When we are young, our hair is coloured by the pigments produced by cells in the hair follicle known as melanocytes. As we grow older, melanocytes become less active, so less pigment is produced, the colour fades, and grey hairs grow instead |

Krak: Sit down there and keep talking.
Guy Boko Haram is changing before our very eyes from a rag-tag guerilla group into a conventional and formidable military force.
They are also changing tactics from pure guerilla hit-and-run attacks to more conventional way of fighting and they have embarked on holding territory and spreading their hold to the next one.
I predicted (5 years ago) that this would happen and even informed my friends in the SSS so that our military could plan ahead and prevent such bit unfortunately nothing seem to have being done.
Let everybody in every nook and crany of Nigeria be concerned about what is happening in Borno State. If our Army is defeated there then the whole Nigeria is gone. It would just be a matter of time.

Olucheye: 1 If you were given a box of pencils, list 10 things you could do with them that are not their traditional use.
1. Use it to Turn a traditional radio cassette. 2. Chop into small pieces, to be used spot markers 3. Remove the graphite in it and use it a lubricant for my lab machine or key lock as the need may arise. 4. Use to fix stubborn zip on my clothes. 5.open things sealed up in plaStic... Like a 5alive seal. 6. Put it in a ruler that has a hole on it and spin like we use to do in primary school. Helicopter of life, chief boredom savior. 7. Play drums and make music/noise. 8. The eraser could clean any corrections. 9. Would also serve as a makeshift ruler in times of desperate need. E.g plotting a graph... Axis X & Y. 10. A deadly weapon. For example, stabbing either the Carotid artery(ies) or jugular vein(s)
2. How would you solve problems if you were from Mars? If I was from Mars, problems on earth will be alien to me, hence the need to go into explorative research to determine cause, effects, and proffered solution.
On a lighter note, I'd wake up from my dream and stop imagining if I was from Mars. It's certain already that in this life, i will never be from Mars...I'm already an earthling!
3. What's the most creative way you can break a clock?
Remove the battery or knock out the engine cold.It will still tell the right time twice everyday.
4. A disc is spinning on a spindle, and you don't know which way. You are given a set of pins. Describe how you would use them to determine which way the disc is spinning.
Drop the base of the pin first on the disk, the direction which the tip of the pin fall towards is the backward direction while the base will point forward.
5. You have a bag of with "N" number of strings. At random, you pull out a string's end. You pull out another string end and you tie the two together. You repeat this until there are no loose ends left to pull out of the bag. What is the expected number of loops?
Number of Loops = N/2 - X(string's end)
Mathematicians, kindly help.
6. You want to design a phone for deaf people — how do you do it?
It'll only have only a vibrat*r (which one is romance machine again Seun) and a compatible screen, then a software that coverts all voice calls to text on his phone. 2. Phone will come with a real or virtual keyboard to reply both voice and texts all in form of messages. 3. Each notifications will vibrate to notify him/her of all alerts
7. How would you design an elevator?
Traditional styled with a couple of extra designs such as being opaque to people on the outside for privacy, music while you ride it on high rise buildings, fresh air vent for occupants from people who fart while riding.
8. Why should we not hire you?
I hate being stereotypical. Hence, if the offered job position isn't going to offer me challenges that will afford me developmental and mental growth via deep thoughts and adept research, I'll get weary and bored which consequentially will impede my productivity and contributions as a staff.
9. How do you compute the collision of two moving spheres? Give me both the mathematical equations for the solution as well as an algorithmic implementation.
Sorry, I'm a graduate of the college of Medicine. But I think it should be somewhat related to recoil speed. If you remember Okeke Physics. 10. Name as many Microsoft products as you can.
Word, PowerPoint, Excel, spreadsheet, windows 97, 98, Vista, Windows 7, windows 8, internet explorer, Windows phone OS (Nokia Lumia Series) e.t.c
Permit me to add, I'm a fresh graduate who's actively seeking internship opportunities with Public health related NGO's but I'm not limited to that, as I'd appreciate any opportunity to put to active use my versatility in any organization. I'd appreciate any opportunity to prove myself. Kindly send me a PM on NL if you've got any available opportunities.

latinojives: After taking a final glance at https://www.nairaland.com/1844415/how-much-sleep-enough-sleep, what bothered me more was the fact that even kids don't get enough sleep either, so we are, as it were, being raised in cultures of sleep deprivation. Little wonder there is an increase in number of people managing hypertension, diabetes and heart disease. If you’re getting less than eight hours of sleep each night, chances are you’re sleep deprived.The tell tale signs are;

Always counting on an alarm clock in order to wake up on time You just love punching that snooze button You have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning You feel sluggish in the afternoons You are frequently sleepy in meetings, lectures, or warm rooms Drowsiness after heavy meals or when driving Need to nap to get through the day Falling asleep while watching TV or relaxing in the evening Feel the need to sleep in on weekends Fall asleep within five minutes of going to bed Sounds like most of us right? We are so used to this symptoms that they don’t look like a big deal. You probably have no idea just how much lack of sleep is affecting you.
The effects include:
Fatigue, lethargy, and lack of motivation Moodiness and irritability Reduced creativity and problem-solving skills Inability to cope with stress Reduced immunity; frequent colds and infections Concentration and memory problems Weight gain Impaired motor skills and increased risk of accidents Difficulty making decisions Increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, and other health problems Ever noticed how when you’re short on sleep you crave sugary foods that give you a quick energy boost? There’s a good reason for that. Sleep deprivation has a direct link to overeating and weight gain.
There are two hormones in your body that regulate normal feelings of hunger and fullness. Ghrelin stimulates appetite, while leptin sends signals to the brain when you are full. However, when don’t get the sleep you need, your ghrelin levels go up, stimulating your appetite so you want more food than normal, and your leptin levels go down, meaning you don’t feel satisfied and want to keep eating. So, the more sleep you lose, the more food your body will crave.
If these symptoms and effects speak to you, your resolve should be to get some more hours of sleep at night. Go to bed early if you must, and reduce distractions in the room (TV on, music, etc) so you can get as much deep sleep as possible. You will feel much better, and your long term health will be improved.

2s£xy: Before I comment, let me first address claremont.
@Claremont, you may feel you have spoken wisely but let it be known to you that the world moves around in circle. Nobody likes to be used or fooled, except you want to tell me that you have never been fooled before. I also pray it does not happen to your sister or daughter.
It is surprising that you guys do not see the genuinty of this woman's love, something that is REALLY hard to find in the world today.
Pathetically, people do not see the need to feel any concerned and take a feather of wisdom from it. This is a monster staring us in the face; this is how they are born. A supposely loving, caring, understanding, compassionate being can become a monster within a split of seconds; we are all born devils since the days that Adam and Eve were tempted, we just learn to manage the devil within us. So, don't think you have monopoly over evil.
The evil that men do live with them on planet earth and not after.I will give 2 instances:
As kid less than 10 years-old (the brain of child is like a camera) I can still remember vividly what an uncle did. This dude came from the US and started dating a lady. She really loved him and it was written all over her such that on my little sister's birthday, she bathed a birthday card with kisses for my sister and she treated her like her daughter.
She took in for him 3 good times and it was in this case I knew that some people were their own abortionist. When she told him she is pregnant, he would look for the slightest provocative medium to beat her until she lost the child. Eventually, he didn't marry her and they went their seperate ways.
Several years later when he decided to get married, could he? He married first and then came problems with the woman in question and he divorced her with one kid in the middle in the US.
He came to Nigeria after some years to get married. The marriage was pretty nice and flamboyant. He took the new wife to the US and then came another problem as he later found out that she had lied to him about not having any child. She also caused other problems that saw her being deported and almost had my uncle go through same but for the sake of being a Naija bred nigga, he knew what to do and fled to Canada. He is there now.
He is in Canada now and I learned that he got married last year. The case isn't different from a 46 year old marrying 22-25 year old.
My own elder brother had a beautiful girlfriend that loved him to pieces but he didn't value it. He is paying the price today.
Truth be told, we can ONLY have one person that will love like mad... How we manage it when we find such people is left to us. You may get someone that loves you BUT it wouldn't be like the one who crazily loved you.
The universe is governed by laws and when you break such laws, you face the grave consequences.
I wouldn't blame the woman in the OP for feeling like that... It's is normal, very normal. Her case could only be explained to be finding a way to make the dude feel as much pains as she is feeling. I know that feeling because I have been there and felt same at one time.
But the beauty of it all is that life has a way of dealing with such people. In my case, I used to call her, smile etc. But you know what? She has tasted dicks and got cheated on too.
She visited me at school 2 years ago and on 2 occassions. She saw in my eyes the burning furnace of anger. She knew if I had my way, I would retaliate but something was holding me back and that was GOD himself.
One day(a few months ago, precisely) she told me she was scared of me. I asked her why and she said she has a feeling that I could harm her at anytime. Truth be told, she was right. Who would have thought the same person who called and smiled and laughed could still have such buried in his heart after 3 years?
She just begged and I had no reason not to forgive her because I am not God. Though she had begged in the past, I just had to finally let go.
That's why I said this is a monster staring us in the eyes and we shouldn't wave it off as something ordinary. This is mostly the reason why we read on news media or newspaper cases of acid bathing etc. Do not think that person you are dealing with can not harm you just because he or she being caring and you erroneously assume they are dumb and find the worthy of being fooled.
I will blame the woman for not deciding the direction of the relationship before hand. She should have ASK the dude what his plans were and ladies shouldn't wait for him to say it; be bold enough to ask what plans does your suppose boyfriend have for you. Is it to marry or just boyfriend ish? This is essential and paramount especially when you are already out of school and working.
Above all, she should find a place in her heart to forgive him. I know it is NOT easy, I know it is HARD to forgive, but she has to let go so she could see clearly into the future. The good thing is that she is wiser now. |
Romance › Re: Why Do 'Nice' Ladies Get Dumped Easily by StepG: 8:45am On Dec 27, 2013 |
Sagamite: This is an utter rubbish article!
FACT 1: The vast majority of nice girls are the not so good looking ones. There are mainly 3 types of girls that are nice to a man:
a) The one that fancy him and hope to have a relationship or sex with him. b) The mediocre/ugly/insecure one that feels her looks would not get her far, so she has to rely on the secondary tool of attraction to get a man. c) The one that has an ulterior motive to exploit him. Maybe for his money.
Very few girls are naturally nice. To find a naturally nice girl is like trying to look for a man that would not cheat if he had a clean chance. That is very rare.
FACT 2: Most fine girls are not nice. They know they have several options so it does not even register in their head to be nice. As a matter of fact, they screen their numerous suitors by testing them to see if he is a mugu. Such tests includes testing his tolerance boundaries of her misbehaviours before he tells her to fcking behave and then take control, which turns her on. Most men fail this tell because our logical brain and the misleading training women and moronic real men give us is "just be nice to a girl and she would like you". Women don't work that way, especially fine ones. Most women are selfish and do not give much hoot about a guy's feelings except they are attracted to the guy or they see him in tears or they face calumny for their action, otherwise his feelings does not register in their world. They just want the world to work in their favour, that is their life priority, not your (a man's) useless feelings. They don't understand fair and equality.
FACT 3: No Miss University would struggle to find a man. There will be a queue longer than the worst day of delays at Muritala Muhammed Airport. Even if she was mean, many men would even allow her shyt on their head and would still take her because of her beauty thinking they can change her because, according to their moronic brainwash, "women are pure". The only time majority would reconsider is when she loses her looks and the attitude still stinks.
Again, the point is: Nice girls get dumped easily because they tend not to be the best looking out of the lot of women. Most men are strongly attracted to looks, personality only brings comfortability. Many men would keep on seeking the finest girl they can get or that knocks them off their feet. |

freshchuks10: First impressions may be made in moments, but they predict the course your relationships follow. So if you know what exactly about you draws in the votes, you can perfect it -- and do better with the opposite sex. So what do women notice immediately?
According to Dr Gordon Patzer, author of Looks: Why They Matter More Than You Ever Imagined, and one of the world’s leading authorities on physical attractiveness, a lot of what women notice in the first few minutes is appearance-based. “A substantial portion of the six features of a man are apparent, in terms of height, weight and overall physical attractiveness,” he says. And when appearances don’t make the cut, the door slams shut on further interactions. Here’s a list of things to keep that door open.
1. Physical stature Yep, you knew this already: size matters. Height and weight are right on top of the list of things women notice. “Too much or too little of either immediately classifies the man as unattractive to women, and closes the door before less physically obviously features (such as confidence) can be determined,” says Dr Patzer. Take heart though, the acceptable range is influenced by the woman's own height and weight.
2. Appearances and attractiveness Yes, beauty is skin deep, but it’s going to get women to explore what lies beneath. Attractiveness does include what you were born with, but your genes alone can't scuttle your chances. What really counts is what you do with your hair, clothes, grooming and basic hygiene. If you can't make the effort, women certainly are not going to work hard to learn more about you!
3. Smile Once women are done assessing your overall build, women will look at your smile. “The ability to smile, particularly within the first few minutes of meeting, sends a welcoming, non-hostile signal to women,” says Dr Patzer. There is one proviso though -- the smile must show off reasonably good-looking teeth. It's never too late to fix an appointment with the dentist!
4. Humour Another reason to show off those pearly whites! Women like men who have the ability to laugh. Even better, make the woman laugh. That instantly nets you bonus points!
5. Confidence Women find confident men attractive. According to Dr Sameer Malhotra, head of psychiatry and psychotherapy department at Fortis Hospital in New Delhi, within the first few minutes of meeting, women will not only suss out your level of confidence, they will also interpret the vibes you give out and how you think. “Women notice how clear or decisive you are and whether you approach things positively.” Just remember, cockiness and arrogance are not the same as confidence!
6. Conversation Men have successfully given womankind the impression of being strong and silent. So women aren't expecting you to have mad talking skills. All you've got to do hold her attention. “We know (scientifically) that the more or longer that a woman gets to know a man, the more physically attractive he becomes in her mind,” says Dr Patzer. Women are looking for someone to keep up the conversation -- so forget the one-liners, just be yourself!
