Gov Okowa Commissions Gas Turbine (GT)-15 Transcorp Power Ltd Ughelli, Delta state producing 620 megawatts of Gas to the National grid

Delta State Governor Sen Ifeanyi Okowa together with Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Chairman Of United Bank Of AFRICA group Mr Tony Elumelu commissioned the 115 Megawatts Gas Turbine G-15 newly completed by Transcorp Power Limited, Ughelli Power Station.

Transcorp Power Limited acquired the Ughelli Power Plant in 2013 with an operating capacity of 150 Megawatts. With the addition of another 115 Megawatts, Transcorp Power Limited has increased the Ughelli Power Plant to 620 Megawatts.

Governor Shettima of Borno state was at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital in Kaduna where he visited Modu Umar, surviving driver of the Hilux vehicle involved in fatal accident while his convoy was moving from Kaduna to Abuja on Friday.

The accident led to the death of one of his aides, Mallam Umar Faruq Musa, a Senior Special Assistant who was buried in Maiduguri.

Following the peace initiative by the Zamfara state government together with 1 Division Nigerian Army which started in 2016, repentant armed bandits and livestock rustlers have continued to surrender their weapons to the military in the State.

On Wednesday 8th March 2017, repentant armed bandits and local vigilante group called “’Yansakai” in Ruwan Tofa, ‘Yar Galadima and Babban Doka in Maru Local Government Area, Danwaren Daji in Tsafe Local Government Area, as well as Mada in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, handed over large quantities of dangerous arms and ammunition.

These includes 3 AK-47 Rifles, 1 foreign made Pistol, 1,169 Dane Guns, 323 Locally Made Pistols, 54 X Locally Made Revolvers, 102 Locally Made Multi-Barrel Pistols and 22 X Locally Made Double Barrel Rifles.

The weapons were handed to 223 Battalion, 1 Brigade Nigerian Army in the presence of some State government officials and representatives of the various heads of security agencies in the State. Over the last few months over a thousand assorted weapons have been surrendered across the North West Zone.

ACID BATH IN UYO:
Victim Cry for Justice

Iniubong, 24, an indigene of Ikot Ntuen Oku, Uyo, who resides at Akpan Essien Street, in uyo has been bath with an acid by his Ex-girlfriend, Lucy Daniel, 26, at about 1:00am on Tuesday.

On the penultimate Tuesday, Iniubong had retired to bed earlier on, when suddenly he was woken up by a gentle knock at his door. He wondered who could be at the door at such ungodly hour. The knock continued, when he enquired to know who was at the door, he was surprised to hear Lucy’s voice – his Ex-girlfriend. Lucy was appealing to him to open the door.

‘’I told her to leave that I would not open the door for her because we have parted ways. But she continued knocking on the door and begging me that she is stranded and needed a place to pass the night and nothing more. Reluctantly, I open the door; as soon as I opened she splashed the liquid on me, which turned out to be an acid. I don’t know what I have done to her to deserve this ill treatment’’, lamented iniubong.

The victim, who is currently receiving treatment at the university of uyo teaching hospital, went further to narrate what led to this sad end of their love story, saying that both of them were in an intimate relationship for a year. But he decided to quit the relationship last year, when he noticed that Lucy was a troublesome person. ‘’Lucy was in the habit of igniting quarrels between us, she would accuse me of having affairs with other girls, we hardly had peace being together’’. Iniubong appealed to the security agents to do everything possible to apprehend the culprit and made her face the full weight of the law.

Lucy Daniel is said to be an Indigene of Ikot Annung II, in Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, but resides in uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital. She is said to have flee her home after the acid attack on iniubong. The incident had since been reported to the police force headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia. As at the time of filing this report, the culprit was still at large. Effort to reach the force Public Relation Officer for confirmation proved abortive, as the contact was not connecting at the moment.

Uwakwe, who was with us at the NYSC Headquarters yesterday, acknowledged the Scheme's intervention in his case, and has since put the matter behind him.

We remain committed to protecting Corps members wherever they are serving while also appealing to other stakeholders to show love and hospitality to them in their various service locations'.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), in collaboration with Nigerian Universities, has successfully produced a test bench locally for testing the anti-skid system on the Alpha Jet aircraft. The new test bench allows the entire anti-skid system to be tested on the ground before installation on the aircraft unlike what hitherto obtained where test on the aircraft component was carried out in parts. This feat has not only saved the country huge foreign exchange that otherwise would have been spent abroad, it also marks a major research and development breakthrough for the NAF in its drive towards developing local capacity for self-reliance. The feat is also a major plus for the NAF in its conduct of offensive air operations in the North East given the crucial role played by the Alpha Jets in the ongoing counterinsurgency operation against the Boko Haram Terrorists.

Those involved in the collaborative effort with the Air Force Research and Development Centre include Professor Mohammed Dauda from Ahmadu University Zaria as well as Engineers Kabiru Abdulwahab and Mahammad Shuwa from University of Maiduguri. Others are Professors JD Jiya, EE Omixegba, Engineer Mohammed Baahir and Dr Kabiru Ibrahim from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. The latter team helped the NAF with the repairs of faulty gyro and UHF/VHF radio systems, which has been a recurrent issue, on the Alpha Jet due to old age. Meanwhile the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar has promised to give more aircraft maintenance work to the team with a view to spurring technological growth as well as save the country scarce resources. The CAS made the disclosure in Kaduna while appreciating the combined team of professionals from the Nigerian Universities for its spirited effort and contribution to national development.
