He can drive for 60 days with his Nigerian licence.

He will have to do the theory and road test a usual which should be pretty easy of he can already drive.
The written test is kinda tricky but once you study the handbook it's a breeze. Their driving rules here is a little different.
It's really funny how they fail those tests here... One lady told me it was her 5th time of trying, but she passed that day. grin

Pls I want to ask. If I want to buy a plane ticket for my family to New York, will my kids, ages 3 and 7 , pay the same fare with me and their dad ? Is there something like the minors paying lesser flight ticket fees ?
Thanks as usual
Absolutely they'll pay the same amount.
Except there's an on going promotion that says otherwise or you have Qmiles you can convert as rebates(Frequent (International) flyers usually build up Qmiles(points)

You are required to pay for a seat for a child that is 2 years and above.

You should have converted it to international driver license so that it will be easy for you to get the state driver license you want
Not necessarily... He's still good wth the original Nig license.
In fact when I applied for my license, I was made to sit through a 4 hour fresher course that I paid $40 because I didn't have the original license ...I travelled with my international license.

He can still drive with the Nigeria license for a bit... But he has to apply for a state license ASAP.

He is saying this because his company is the sole importer of jet A1 fuel, hence he can fix any price he likes, bloody hypocrite...
You have a point.
But he's also tryna make one... I know some airlines that don't refuel in Nig. They go to Ghana instead.

Na wah ooo.... why swap aviation oil with kerosenehuh
Aviation is otherwise known as kerosene, just that Jet A1 has some more additives to dissipate static electric, gumming etc.

To those in need of temporary accommodation, you should consider talking to them at the International Students' Office. When I got to Madison, I got an American family to accommodate me for free through the ISO. They gave me a bike, winter clothes, fed me, took me to get basic things, drove me round the city of Madison, etc. They get worried whenever I didn't eat their food.

Simply put, before leaving Nigeria, try to explore every temporary accommodation opportunities through your ISO. What I have noticed is that many of us don't read through the website of the school we intend going well enough. Right now, many of my friends here are even amazed I got such a deal. The difference: I did my homework from Nigeria.

Remember, whatever you are passing through isn't permanent. It shall pass. Nothing is permanent in this world; bliss, pain, triumph, etc. None is forever. Peace. smiley
Thank you for preaching the "Home work" story here!
Unfortunately most people who travel here are first time travelers and make more mistakes. Doing a quick online search about the city your gonna arrive to cannot be overemphasized, knowing how to move around, finding stores for immediate needs, making reservations and even where your church is located can all be super important. I remember when I arrived here,it was my first time in the U.S. But not my first time abroad... Settling down in Daytona beach wasn't so overwhelming because I had done some homework about how to solve my immediate needs...before I found my friend in the same school I had already settled in a hotel and had a 5hour sleep.

Your brother asking you to pay was because he knew you had the means to. I have had to accommodate someone who approached me back in church then. He was having issues raising his tuition as such, I saw it as the only thing I could do to help. A few friends complained and one was insistent that I should ask the guy to take on some part of the bills. The only thing I had in mind was if I did not help him or if he wasn't staying with me, wouldn't I pay my bills?

Helping people is a privilege and I will do the same over and over again if I have to.

It is unfortunate that I don't have single female friends in Houston otherwise, I would have approached them on behalf of the person. I believe it is a phase the person is going through and she will cone out of it stronger hopefully.
That's the spirit!!!
Unfortunately, people you help sometimes can abuse the privilege causing you some substantial loss. It happens a lot here that's why some people begin to change or help under certain conditions.

Among the ibos, there's a name that is "Ogomegbulam"- let my "good deeds" not kill me. Caution is the watchword here guys!!!

Second, pls ow do i get a good and affordable apartment right here?

Third, which SIM will b Ok for use,..i av my z10 bbm with me.

Thanks
Hotels I'm FL are pretty high especially if you don't have a prior reservation...
You shoulda asked your school to help you make one. As a last resort, you can look for hotels close to your school, sometimes they have a special student discount. I tried to contact the only person I know in Tampa but he has moved out of FL.
Apartments should be easy enough just check Craiglist. Please be careful with Craiglist though.

About a SIM card... That generally depends on your budget. However, make sure the plan you opt for can support blackberry services. I know for a fact that T-mobile does cos that's what I use currently. A $40 plan on T-mobile or Simple mobile can give you limited talk and text with 1gig high speed internet.

Goodluck!

Hi guys sorry I'm dropping my travel transcript and experience rather late...

Left muritala into. airlines on Monday, 10th August via emirates airline. Night flight, we took off 8:50pm o. The dot to dubai, 7hrs exactly. Got to dubai at 4am Naija time, 9am dubai time...has a layover of 7 hrs, and connected the next flight at exactly 4, but we didn't take off until 6pm dubai time...it was a loooonnnng flight to jfk new York, 13 hours...emirates was cool to fly with, services on point...the dolls they have as hostesses are cute and extra nice...food was there but a lotta rubbish, I couldn't eat most of them...layover was interesting, albeit long...

Arrived jfk 2 hrs behind schedule, and poe was very easy, as in, no hassles at all.
Immigration officer: hi,
Me: hi, good evening.
IO: place your hands on the machine bla bla bla...
Pass me your visa,
Can I see your i-20,
Alright, enjoy your stay in the United States.
Me: thank you.

It was past midnight, and the shuttle I booked to take me to bridgeport had closed for the day, since I arrived 2 hrs late, and they stop work at midnight...had to wait till 6:30 am at the airport...

Lemme skip all that cos there were some drama; I wanted to find my way on my own, but had to go back to the airport and wait till morning for my shuttle to resume work...

Got to my school at bridgeport and requested a transfer, and I was asked to present the admission letter from my new school, and a mail from the school that they are expecting me, which was done. And I got a mail thereafter that my sevis details has been released to my new school. And I left that weekend for alabama, where my new school is. I have registered and started classes, and menh, this place is lovely.

All the best everyone, God bless all our hustle and prosper our works in Jesus name, Amen.

That's the plane that carried me to US, A 380 airbus, the largest plane in the world...

And menh, the system works here...
That's not the largest plane joor grin

However, The Airbus 380 is the largest commercial airplane in the world. It took that title from the Boeing 747 series(my favorite aircraft) since its production.

Good Morning fellas
am so curious to know if the i 20 has changed and also, i transferred to a CC college, but the i 20 i received shows that my transfer is still pending, but the woman that issued it to me said is ok but i rejected it and walked away. My question is, will i have any problem with if i try to reenter in the US?
To the best of my knowledge...
When you transfer schools, your old and new I-20 are being sent to the relevant authorities for approval. The copy your gonna have will definitely have 'pending' . Insofar as your new school has received your SEVIS records you're good(you man not be able to re-enter the United States though if you leave. Please verify from your school). It takes about 3-6 months for for the process to be complete. When I changed schools, I was given copies of my new I-20 and the original was sent to authorities, my school however asked that I can't leave the United States until the process is complete.
You could ask your school if there's some other way you can legally re-enter the United States if you have to leave.

Please why did you reject the one you was given?

OK. I've got to notice that Nigerians aren't really interested in playing sports in college. Nobody has ever talked about it on this thread. Me, I'll like to play male soccer for two reasons: because I love the game and because I'll be looking to getting some bucks from it in scholarship money, although men's soccer isn't a big game in the US sha.
Why I ask is because I've already registered with NCAA but I've not completed my eligibility clearance. I'll have to send my high school transcript and proof of graduation (WAEC result). I don't know whether I'm to send my original result or not, cos I don't think they accept photocopy and I also do not think they will return my original result to me. That's the dilemma I've having.
That's because sports is very competitive here in the united states. For those of you in college(esp undergrad) it's an option you Wana explore if you love sports. Soccer is one sports Nigerians love but it's not a preferred sports here. Track and field is another option but making the try outs is another story entirely. As a sport lover I strongly recommend sports at any level. Even if you don't get awards for it, you'll get lots of recognition that are invaluable attributes in the American society.

On a lighter note... Look out for those teenagers who have been practicing since 2... They are out for blood! If you know say your power know reach, just enta library sharp sharp before you trend on Sports Central grin
