Just because he appoints a northerner doesn't mean a northerner will do anything to make northerners better off. How much have the lives of the Fulani improved under Yar'Adua.

People vote with their feet. The Nigerian Diaspora is a testament to the Nigerian governance.
PoliticsRe: Why There Is No Presidential Debate In Nigeria? by strangleyo: 12:15am On Feb 15, 2009
There will be no debate. There never is in Nigerian society. He who is the "big man" in the society will have backing of the people regardless of what he has to say or do. It's African tradition, blind faith to the big chief (even if he's selling your ass to the whites for a few shiny trinkets), and all is well.

Kobojunkie:
Interesting!! So it is ok for you to do all this in the name of ATHIESM( which by the way is a belie, hence a religion) but it is not Ok to do the same in the name of any religion that claims a god? My! You must be an intelligent one!!

I wanted to respond but as soon as I got to the last paragraph, I realized what this is all about. It's the same old US VS THEM debates that get no where sane. Anywho, continue ranting!!!
Funny personally I'm not an atheist. Atheism means one who does not beleive in a higher entity, aka. a god. I haven't ruled an almighty one out yet, but I sure as hell won't let it get in the way of my decision making. It knows its all love.

I want Africa to be one nation, but to be guided by an Arab who thinks with his book 1400 year old book 1st, and his head 2nd, please, not a leader of mine.

ps, changed the last part of my previous post

pps, its only a rant if you like to live with your head in the sand, well, almost Nigerians seem to these days.
PoliticsRe: Gaddafi Wants Caribbean In Africa by strangleyo: 11:53pm On Feb 14, 2009
Are you sure you are not yourself living in world of fantasies? Eradicate religion? Within one generation? Please tell me you are joking!
Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, England, and even Ireland, all countries where religion is no longer part of public policy. In the 1940 (roughly 1 generation ago) religion was still the focal point of much of their policy making, especially when it came to dealing with domestic matters. Today, practically none.

Are you sure it is the case that those parts are completely rid of religion, or it is that they have exchanged one religion for another?
If you're talking of importing muslims from Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey as the replacement of one religion for another, you are wrong. Atheism in Europe is strong. Most liberal Europeans hate Muslims and their piousness, first hand experience with that.

That explains much! Your rant seems to be out of hate for some religions and not necessarily that you want to see things change or you just want to say these religions are done with? That
These religions are done with. That.

They are definitely not dumb to understand. I think you have a serious naïve way to approaching the issue; convincing yourself that the leaders are dumb, hence the reason why they continue to play the religion card speaks volumes about your understanding of the real situation.
When I say arab leaders, I don't necessarily confine this to the politico. I do mean all leaders, Imams, etc. Attaturk was the smartest thing to come out of a former Islamic nation. Today Turkey is head and shoulders ahead of almost all religious Islamic states. Attaturk's strict separation of religion and the state helped Turkey's transition into a modern contemporary nation state. Also, Turkey is socially ahead of almost any "Muslim" state.

Gosh!!! This write up of yours is childish at best. What makes you think you are better than those who do the same in the name of one religion or the other? You sound so much like one of those you have ought against!
Perhaps I am not better than those who I lambaste who do things in the name of religion. But I do things logically, after thinking them out, looking at facts, pros, cons, I do my best to calculate the consequences. I do not blindly yell in the name of god, and I would sincerely hope (yeah right) that Africans don't get duped by an Arab who has his religion worn on his shoulder.

I consider America (The USA) as founded by the British Colonists to be one of the most solidly planned unions in the world. With the exception of one civil war, it has been a grand success story. Many of the the founding fathers were far from religious, and while it was political suicide to declare Atheism in those days, it was clearly documented that those men were not your average church goes for their time.

Japan is another country for which I harbor personal admiration for. Japan has always in a way been self centric. Japanese policy has always been based on logic, not blind faith. Japanese policy for hundreds of years has had more to do with the immediate, AND long term welfare of its people than some blind religious dogma.

Now, the thought of a man who thinks Islam (or any other religion for that matter) 1st and foremost, THEN logic, welfare, wellbeing, progress after, being the "president" of a single African political and socio-economic juggernaught is a notion that makes me want to vomit.
Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great.— translated by M. H. Shakir
What I hate more than organized religion, is a religion that tells you how to live your life. The reason why collective islamic society is rooted in the dark ages is because Islam forces it's subjects to live a certain way, and no other.

How a black man bow down to the capital of the Arab world is just as astounding as a black man preaching verses that refer to him as inferior (ham).
PoliticsRe: Gaddafi Wants Caribbean In Africa by strangleyo: 11:25pm On Feb 13, 2009
No no no,

What I mean is the countries are rich but they leaders in them are despotic and that is the only way they can keep religion as the central fulcrum, and hence use religion to justify their own power (how many times do we hear despots blaming the west for problems created by them).

If Saudis becomes liberated and are free to spend their money as they please, you will see how quickly Islam would become what Christianity has become in many European countries.

The most liberal Arabs are Lebanese, who are lucky to have been democratically led for a long period of time. Even with Hizbullah, lebanese are far more liberal than other arabs. Lebanon is richer and the Lebanese are freer than in other Arab states.

The point is, create wealth, and mix it with neo liberalism , freedom of speech, (yes yes, evil western concepts blah blah), empowerment of women, and you will see how quickly Islam's importance will subside.
IslamRe: Islamic Culture? by strangleyo: 10:39pm On Feb 13, 2009
I think most religions are silly, but Islam is up there with the worst of 'em. Muslims are a very aggressive group of people. When I hear some of the crap they spout in the UK one cannot be but astounded at the arrogance and audacity and irony of preaching hatred against the same country one bent over to get a visa in.

If modern Christians were interested in holy war, REAL holy war, there would be no Muslim world by now. It would be irradiated deserts with "WARNING: RADATION" signs posted at their borders.

Muslims need to calm the Bleep down before that happens to them.

Anyhow, no black man anywhere across the world should bow down towards Mecca, the Arab (spits) capital. No Black should face Jerusalem and bow down to a Jew religion (christianity) either. We black don't need this imported garbage. Whether brought on camels, or whether brought by boats from Europe, same shit, different toilet.
PoliticsRe: Gaddafi Wants Caribbean In Africa by strangleyo: 10:11pm On Feb 13, 2009
You overplay the power of religion. With a strong economy and fast economic empowerment of women and a strong electorate, religion can be eradicated within 1 generation, even a religion as solid as Islam. Northern Europe has shook off Christianity in many places within a generation due to rapid economic and technological development. If we had competent leaders, people wouldn't turn to religion for excuses and causes of unrest, they'll be too busy making money, fucking, doing drugs, partying it up and having fun. Just ask the rich lagosians how much they really care for religion, muslim and christian alike.

Arabs leaders are too dumb and stubborn to realize this, its why even with their 'vast oil wealth' many countries are despotic and hence the Arabs cling onto their religion like flees cling onto shit on the roadside.

We don't need backwards arabs telling us how to run our nations. Let them go Bleep camels. Guarantee solid democratic institution, stable (and sustainable) economic growth, and the empowerment of the female, and you'll see how "Islam" will take a back seat like livestock on my van travelling from Abuja to Ibadan!

Economic integration before political integration first please.

I’ve been saving for a long time, looking to buy some dignity and respect from African leaders.

Also looking to buy less tribal warfare. Will pay big bucks!!! Please contact me if you have.

If each tribe is so interested in having one of their own run the country, I’d like to ask the tribe representatives/chiefs what the past leaders of each respective tribe have brought to that specific tribes people. Improvement of life? Better healthcare, education, sanitation? Please Fulani people tell me what Yar’Adua has done for you?  Yoruba what has Obasanjo done for you?

I’ve just saved some money. Looking to buy African political competence, please contact me if you find, will pay in Euros or US dollars, even Chinese Yuan!

Please no Arab despot dictators either. If power is not emitted from within the sub sahara I'm not interested. I'd love for Africa to unite, I'm a pro pan africanist myself. But not like this. The AU is run by crooks that look after their own interests. ICC wants to indict Bashir from Sudan who murders blacks, Arab and "African" nations have objected. Now, why would they object to such a thing?

I…, am an honest business man looking to purchase politicians who are not animals dressed in human clothes. Please call ASAP if you have.

If you haven't clued in yet, you probably shouldn't be arguing in the topic any longer.

IF Gaddafi is serious and wants to really get the ball rolling. Sign a free trade agreement and labour agreement between all members of the AU. A massive step in the right direction.

PoliticsRe: Why Is The Media Quiet About United States Of Africa? by strangleyo: 8:15pm On Feb 08, 2009
Africa can't be united in a shotgun wedding. By an Arab of all people.

Africa will unite in the long term, sub saran africa will. But not in the next 50 years. The integration must first be economic, as in the European Union. We can then think about political.
PoliticsRe: Is Nigeria Really A Failed State? See These Pics by strangleyo: 6:14pm On Feb 08, 2009
By all indicators, economic, social, technological, and political, it ranks towards the bottom compared to most countries across the world. Nigeria is a failed state, no doubt about it.

Forget comparing ourselves to the US, way out of our league.

Imagine the president of India or Musharraf from Pakistan stealing from the treasury.
PoliticsRe: What Will You Say Is Nigeria's Problem by strangleyo: 4:35pm On Feb 08, 2009
Nigerian people. Lack of history of what we're trying to achieve.

We are playing politics without understanding what politics even is. None of the current crop of Nigerian politicians have read works by European heavyweights such as Adam Smith (Wealth of Nations), Thomas Hobbes (The social contract), Emmanuel Kant (unwarranted power, freedoms) and Jean Jacques Russo.

Our collective perception of power, politics and wealth is a joke, a sad, sad, joke!

We believe that politics means being a big man, picking a party, and taking as much power as possible. Being an important man trumps being competent, industrious and pragmatic. And this view prevails because all 150 million (or whatever we number now) totally agree with all of this and would feel uncomfortable with anything else because these fallacies are built on thousand years of tradition that we cling to.

I have always said this, and I'll re-iterate it. What Nigeria needs is a strong man like Stalin who will completely dis-regard thousands of years of African traditions (which are useless now) and puts us in the right direction through pragmatism and force. Whether we LIKE IT OR NOT!!!

Muza:
He answers to the president and remember the president is not supposed to be corrupt. . .
But in many country even the president is audited, and his actions are closely watched.

So, basically there is no check for the Auditor General.

On paper in most functioning democracies the Auditor General has the power to audit ALL, including the president. However, the auditor general himself is watched by the police to make sure he is not taking bribes for his job.

So, ultimately there is no check whatsoever to make sure public funds aren't mis-used. None, at all. The auditor general gives clean reports for those who pay top bribes, the EFCC has its hands tied by the president, and the police (justice department) doesn't actually function at all. And we all know that.

Nice, i think that's the way to go and industrialize a country.

the Auditor general is supposed to be doing that
Who does he answer to and who audits him? Who makes sure he doesn't receive bribes?

What is the involvement of independent auditing commissions on government projects? (NGOs, etc)

Out of 2500 Billion dollars, 2.1 billion was returned and you believe the above is the case? What happened to the 2497.8 Billion that was spent in the same year? What was the money spent on? Can we see it? Or did it end up in pockets across the country as well?
That's a good question Kobo. What is the auditing process of our government? Who audits government expenditures?
PoliticsRe: Refund Of Unspent Budget Money: A Plus For Yar'adua Administration by strangleyo: 2:58pm On Feb 08, 2009
Almost everyone missed a fact here. Money in the past was always spent, but never spent on what it was budgeted for in the first place. It was usually split amongst the big men.

The fact that this money is unspent, proves how bad our government is at actually spending money where it is needed. They are so used to looting that once they knew they couldn't loot it, they just didn't bother spending it because that might mean that someone would have to work hard.
PoliticsRe: Why Is South Africa Moving Backward? by strangleyo: 12:35am On Feb 05, 2009
I'm glad someone brought this up. I've been wondering if anyone on Nairaland even thought deeply at the state of not just Africa, but EVERY Black Country in the world.

First I'd like to start off with the small yet very familiar analogy of the Iceland scenario. White people used to joke around with this but in reality it’s a painful truth. It goes something like this:

Example 1. Imagine that everyone from Iceland and everyone on the Island of Haiti traded places. Haiti would be turned into a tropical paradise within a decade, while the blacks in Iceland would freeze to death. It seemed like a sad joke at the time, but looking at South Africa, I am beginning to feel more hopelessness at the state of the "black" mindset and situation.

Example 2. If in North America there was some kind of imaginary hypothetical rapture where all the people in the country disappeared, EVERYONE but blacks. Mexicans, Whites, Asians, Indians, etc, all, gone, just black Americans and African Americans left. Power, water, sanitation, basic services such as garbage collection, let alone taxation and the maintenance military equipment. Sad joke?

I thought it was until the power outages in South Africa that began last summer. The country is HAVING POWER OUTAGES!!!!! It’s starting. The sad decline towards it becoming another sub Saharan African country.

If South Africa turns into another pitch black at night African country I believe we may have no-one to vouch for us next time someone decides to invade our homelands. sad

Personally I think most 3 billion people have been duped. Seeing all those muslims constrained by their religion is amusingly satisfying, yet I cannot help but feel for the plight of those enslaved by religion's firm grasp in Africa and Asia and the Mid East.

At least most Christians, Buddhists and Hindus are free to do as they please and their religion does not get in the way of every day life and doesn't intrude in their politics.

Religion is fine, as long is it does not cloud one's judgment.
