Hello, congrats in advance for your trv.
Don't bother applying for SOWP for your hubby from Naija, come to Canada first.
They will likely issue him work permit at POE. Else, enter first and enrol in school then he can apply for SOWP from within Canada. Its that simple. Goodluck!

rolorolo:
Hello House. I need your professional advice.

I am currently awaiting my TRV (Study) to be approved and I proclaim that by the special grace of God, I will give testimony on this forum.

Now to my question, my husband and Son have TRV already. Just thinking, should I apply for SOWP for my husband once my TRV is approved or we all enter Canada and get their documents regularised?. I have been on CIC site and I read that application can be made inside of Canada. I don't know how easy that could be and if we have people who have explore this route in the past.

For my daughter, she is a Canadian Citizen, no issue with her. Just concerned on the best approach for my husband and my son. Your comments are welcome please.
BusinessRe: How To Avoid Tax Troubles In Nigeria by StudentsNG: 5:11pm On May 04, 2018
Very good advise, rightful topic to make a front page on NL not some BBNaija Bullsh*t!
Too bad I've made this mistake in the past, one of my corporate accounts have had turn-over in tens of millions for supposedly different business transactions that does not originate from that company. I guess they will come fetch me from here someday. Thanks for sharing bro!

magazineguy:
Do you have a Limited Liability Company registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) that you do not use?

Do you have a bank account for that company?

I have an advice for you.

Stop Using The Account For Personal Money Transactions.

You know why? Very soon, the Federal Inland Revenue Service will knock on your door for tax returns. They will ask you for your financial accounts and carry out an audit on your company. They will ask you for proof of your VAT remittance. If you say your business is not active, they will not believe you because they can see movement of money in your account. Very soon, tax officials will trace all corporate bank accounts using Bank Verification Number (BVN) to the owners.

Even if you have an active business, it still makes sense to avoid using your corporate bank account for personal transactions because those transactions will be assumed as business income by the tax man. The onus on you is to prove it is personal. How do you prove it? It will be hard.

What is the way out?

The answer is obvious. Stop using it for personal transactions. If you have a corporate account but the business is not active, there is no need to open a bank account for it yet. If your uncle wants to send you money to buy a car for yourself, receive it with your personal account. With personal accounts, you do not need to worry about FIRS. You only have to worry about your personal income tax which you will be paying to your state’s Internal Revenue Service.

If you absolutely want a corporate account, why don’t you register a business name with the CAC? A business name is viewed like an individual and your liability is not limited. With a business name, you deal with your state’s Internal Revenue Service. Register it with just your name as sole owner and you can use your personal Tax Identification Number (TIN) as the company’s TIN.

This will save you a lot of trouble in future. All you need to do is ensure you are up to date with your personal income tax in your state of residence.

Voice of reason.

damosky12:
Sadly, the woman has spoken the obvious truth. She may be spited for this, but really, its a glaring truth that many are afraid of or just ashamed to admit.

Forming boyfriend and girlfriend with a baby daddy from two women is the last act of dignity you expect of a young girl.

Going by the most recent trends these days, chastity and moral uprightness may no longer be fashionable among youths today, yet, they are indelible criteria to measuring a person's value and worth.

A day where virginity is equals to "lack of opportunities" , you may not fancy the truth. But, take it or leave it, truth is the truth.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Legitimate Online Jobs In Nigeria by StudentsNG: 4:53pm On Apr 22, 2018
You will need a mix of real skill sets to truly make money online outside the few popular engagements you mentioned. You should be able to offer services offline first, then create an online presence and use to reach more audience and make even more money. But coming online with empty skills just to “make money” with nothing? I doubt.

I know people get paid at ATS.NG to upload offcamous hostels, but that’s a token and you can’t make a whole living off that. You can still check it if your interest is to make a few thousands on recurrent basis - I know some people that earn quiet over N15,000 weekly.

And please don’t look down on blogging, affiliate and co. People still make a comfortable living from those. Good luck!

EducationRe: Searching For Off-campus Hostels In Nigeria? 10 Factors To Consider by StudentsNG(op): 6:45pm On Jan 25, 2018
StudentsNG:
Searching for an off campus hostel in Nigeria can be a serious pain in the neck for some students. One is confronted by the dilemma of which to and which not to choose. In this Post, a Writer on ATS.NG, Frank, shares what factors to look out for when searching for hostel accommodation off campus.

1. Your budget

The first thing to consider when searching for an off campus accommodation is the strength of your wallet. How much are you willing to spend on the house? How much is your total budget? Consider this and narrow your search to meet your budget. It'd be foolhardy to show interest in a 120,000 Naira apartment on a 30k budget. Don't waste your time, cut your coat according to your clothes.

2. Proximity to School

Living off campus should not distract you from your studies. Try to secure your accommodation somewhere that is as close to school as possible to decrease or eliminate the added transportation cost of shuttling between your house and school. Most ideal locations are trekkable distance from school.

3. Steady access to a means of transportation

This may seem like nothing until there is a medical or security emergency. How fast you can evacuate or be evacuated will determine a lot. It can be frustrating when running late for test, class or exams and you are condemned to trek long distance because there were no available means of transportation close to you.

4. The Landlord

Some students do not cherish the thought of living in the same compound with the landlord/landlady. Not because they were into anything bad, just to be at ease. Some house owners can be insatiable, endeavor to know the kind of person your landlord or landlady is and where they live before moving in.

5. The Neighbourhood

How secure is the neighborhood? Who are your neighbors? You should look for a house in an area populated by other students so you don't stand out in the neighborhood like a sour thumb. Security also matters here, some neighborhoods are more secure than the others, while some are more prone to robbery attack or cult clash. Be security conscious.

6. Facilities

What facilities are there in the house? Is it tiled, painted and fenced with gate? Is there steady power, Wi-Fi and water supply? Are there any back ups for when there's no power or water like Standby generator, solar panels among others. Make sure you put this into consideration before showing interest in the house.

7. Your Social and personal needs

How does the house satisfy your social needs? Any restaurant or other relaxation spots around? Your social needs is as important as your academic needs. Don't neglect them.

8. Finishing and Furnishing

Be sure to know what materials were used to make finishing touches to the house. Does it need repainting, repairs, new wardrobes and doors? Also check to know if the house had been pre furnished or are you going to furnish it yourself. Some people let out already furnished apartments at a moderate price.

9. Waste Disposal

How do you dispose your domestic waste? Is there any central waste disposal point or are you going to sort that out yourself. Remember you are in a new neighborhood, understand how things work here before moving in.

10. The Compound

How clean and lit is the compound? What is the sanitation program like? How often is it kept clean? Avoid dirty or dimly lit compounds for your safety and comfort.

Your point is obvious, they don't see marriage as we do. To them, marriage can end any day. And like you said what happens to her if such occur.

I'll take out a few months. Then reapply after having her baby by next year. This time I will include her account statements and pay slip from her work place. I will have to plead with her employer to start issuing slips, because normally they don't as the business is not that established/formalized.

Nothing spoil. Thanks bro.

TravelRe: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by StudentsNG: 7:20pm On Sep 28, 2017
Update :Submitted in ABUJA VFS, July 14; got feedback Sept 27.

CIC denied my wife's application yesterday. They stated 1. purpose of visit and 2. Personal Assets/Financial Status.

While I'm not particularly sure why they marked those, I fear they might have arrived at that decision following 2 things.

1. My wife's level of education. Her NCE result is awaited, so we only used her O'level and Skill, she's into Catering and Events.
2. No account statement for her - she is paid in cash and there was no way to relate her account statement to her job.

However, I included my 3 different landed property documents, Statement of N12.775m (GTB), and $35,600CAD from CIBC here in Canada. My GTB has monthly inflow of at least N4m and this is consistent. I used same account to apply for my study visa in 2016.

I was pretty sure that funding was not our problem, but not sure why they considered my wife as a 'single' individual (her 'personal' finances).

My Problem

I was never interested in my wife coming here to work, I just want her to be with me. She is pregnant for the first time and I have no one to take care of her should there be complications during her delivery - due January.

I am wondering if she will be approved for a visiting visa if I file immediately, considering that she just got denied SOWP.

Any advise guys?

lolaan:
I would rather suggest he or she finds a way to fund the account back to the said balance. You can then explain that u had to invest it in a project rather than leave it in the account considering it wasn't yielding any reasonable interest having it in the account.
TravelRe: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by StudentsNG: 3:24pm On Sep 14, 2017
This is a definition of problem I must say. And it goes to show that CIC has a way of monitoring what goes on in some account statements people submit. A lesson for us all, don't be in a hurry to empty the accounts!

It is difficult to advise this person, 300k is quiet on the low side. However here's my thought.

Write CIC with a strong wordings explaining why the account was emptied, it could be due to unforeseen circumstance that befell your family or a member of such. Tell them that you have used up the money to solve that problem and that you may need some more time to beef up.

Suggest to them of suspending the visa process and reapplying when ready, or that if the visa is granted that you will stay back and save a little more before coming. Promise them that you will provide the account at POE. Then attach the statement as is.

Or better still, source an alternative account from another sponsor or family member who would vow to take care of the finances due to the emergency that befell your family.

I don't know how reasonable this is, but that's what I could think of.

Once again, the rest of us should learn!

TravelRe: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by StudentsNG: 4:50am On Sep 11, 2017
Congrats on your TRV.

It will be advisable to come in, settle down and register courses; that way you will be able to get letter of enrolment, invitation letter from international students office and more.

Ordinarily there is no set time to apply, but spend a few months before your spouse file the application. That will show that you have a plan for what you are doing and you will be able to claim that you "miss" your wife and lay a claim of family reunion.

Finish first semester and obtain result, which proves you have an academic history in the school prior to applying. Cheers!
