Na waa for this couple. Abi their doctor never tell them the benefits of child spacing.

Educated people procreating like illiterate women in the remote villages.

This woman had a baby just last October (I remember vividly because my Sister put to bed about 2 days after MJ announced the birth of her baby Oct.16 2014) and she's almost due for another baby.

These people should know that they're public figures and people see them a role models. They should stop behaving like uneducated illiterates.

Celebrities / Re: Soundcity Staff Blasts Shan George, Calls Her “classless Woman” by SUCCEED3: 12:52pm On Sep 18, 2015
If this sort of grammar is coming from a Sound City employee that holds a significant role in the organisation, then I pity the music channel and I am not surprised anymore that Sound City appears to be on their way down.

It is obvoious Sound City's employee are not portraying a good image for their organisation as they're engaging in one media fight or the other and they're going about it so unprofessionally. I mean how can you write this rubish as a senior employee of one of the foremost music channel in Nigeria. You are degrading the image of your organisation and I'm surprised the hithertho respected Olamide Deji Adedeji is also guilty of this.

Doesn't Sound City have a pr and or legal team? Why let your employees spew rubish. And what with these threats of lawsuits all over the place. The Sound City employees stock trade appears to be threat of lawsuit over every issue. This also portrays Sound City as an unfriendly and difficult company to work/deal with and can scare potential clients and customers away.

You accuse Shan George of defamation of Character and yet you called her a Wh*re and other unprintable names. And where have you witnessed someone being served a lawsuit via email?

Even if Shan George accused you and your organisation wrongly, you should allow your org issue a formal statement adressing the issue. "Two wrongs does not make a right" they say.

Final advice to Sount City. You are a coporate oganisation and you are fighting with individuals who are celebrities and entertainers, by doing so you are promoting these entertainers making them more polpular and at the same time demoting yourself and damaging the image of the organisation.

Take 4 photos of the vehicle that will reveal the license plates and tint. (ensure its factory tint)

Ensure all your particulars are up to date.

Attach photocopies of your particulars along with a letter of application for the use of factory tinted glasses on the said vehicle, address it to the police command (in the state to grant the permit) under the office of the deputy commissioner in charge of authorizing permits.

Permit takes less than 5hrs and is free. But will cost you between 10-30k cause of bottle necks.

Now there are a lot of chaps out there that use photoshop (oluwole style) to create permits and you can't tell the difference, so be careful.

Thanks for your detailed response.

Hello all,

Kindly guide me on the process of applying and getting a genuine Police permit for Tinted glass for my vehicle.

It appears it's now compulsory to have a permit, though my vehice came with factory fitted tinted gass.

I've been stopped by the Police lately and they keep saying I should give them money to process it for me, I would have though, but I do not know them.

Thank you.

Hello all,

I have been stopped twice in the last 3 weeks by the Police, demanding for Tinted glass permit which I do not have. I suffered delays and eventual settlement followed in each case before I was let go.

The SUV came with factory fitted tinted glass and I have been driving it for almost 4 years with no permit and the Police nerver asked for it in previous occasions that I have been stopped for a check.

Is there a new law making this permit compulsory or is this one of the high handedness of the Nigerian Police?

Should this be compulsory, kindly provide the process of getting a genuine permit if you do know.

Thanks in anticcipation.

Politics / My PVC Collection Experience Yesterday (kindly Share Yours Too) by SUCCEED3: 8:22am On Feb 07, 2015
Hello all,

I decided to go collect my PVC yesterday, I wanted to do that and head for my office afterwards. Before leaving the house, I had checked the status of my card through the website www.govote.ng which linked me to http://voters.inecnigeria.org/ where I confirmed that my card was available and ready for collection. I had also heard in the news that the PVC collection has been decentralized and I could collect mine from the polling unit where I registered.

I got to the polling unit where I registered in 2011 (no longer at the exact spot it was 4 years ago, it has been moved by a few meters, perhaps due to lack of space) at about 9:30AM. Before getting to the place, I had observed from my car a number of people gathered around the place, I also did notice the names pasted on the wall so I knew that was the polling unit. I packed my a few meters away and then walked back to the polling unit.

On getting there I was surprised to too see a BABA Ijebu (Lagos Lotto) operator and his machine at the spot, his board was even covering some of the names pasted on the wall. There were about 12 people surrounding the Lotto man, I would classify these people as touts or hoodlums judging from the way they talked and behaved, and almost all of them were wearing APC branded T-Shirts.

I inquired from them about the ongoing PVC collection, the ones that responded told me to go to the LGA and that INEC is no longer distributing the PVC at the polling unit. Well I told them that it was in the news that people should now go to their polling unit to collect their cards. Anyways, I decided to leave for my office and check back later instead of wasting my time.

Around 2:30PM, I returned to the same place to check and Lo and behold, the INEC officials - a young man and a lady - the man was issuing cards for those that registered in 2014 while the lady issued for people that registered in 2011. The touts whom I had met earlier wearing APC branded T-shirts were also still hanging around. I observed them surreptitiously, they spoke mostly in Yoruba language and occasionally interrupted the INEC officials, I did not really know what their mission was but they interacted with the INEC agents in Yoruba language.

I was amazed at the number of uncollected cards, and the amount of time it took to attend to one person. The process appeared very inefficient. Though there were 2 INEC agents, it took each one of them between 18mins - 25mins to attend to 1 person because they had go through the stack of cards and there is no guarantee that one’s card would be found.

The period that I was there, there were about 13 of us who came to collect our cards, 9 including me had our TVC, while 4 others did not have their TVCs and were asked to fill some form. I was number 8 in the queue. Before my turn, out of the 7 people ahead of me, only 2 PVCs could be found, the other 5 were not found and the card owners were asked to go to some place to check.

On getting to my turn, the lady official of INEC took my TVC, and started checking through the stack of cards, I could observe closely that she was doing a shoddy job of it and wasn't being meticulous, after about 11 minutes of checking she handed over my TVC and told me that my card could not be found and that it might be one of the problematic cards that were not printed. I told her immediately that it could not have been true that my card was not printed because I had checked my card status and it was available. I quickly ran a fast check on my phone again using the INEC website and showed her that INEC acknowledges that my card is available and she can't deny me my card.

She maintained that my card was not available and wanted to continue attending to others, I refused to leave and I warned her that if she didn't get my card I would call INEC and report her myself. She then reluctantly started checking all over again and eventually found my card to the amazement of everyone around, she had to apologize for how she handled the issue. Because of my insistence, 2 people who had been told that there cards were not available were still around and I helped them check the status of their cards using the INEC website and the site confirmed that their cards were available and ready for collection at that polling unit. Before I left the place, the INEC official was doing a recheck of their cards again.

Although I succeeded in collecting my card, I left there feeling disappointed because of the following:
1) The huge number of cards that are yet to be collected
2) How grossly inefficient the process of PVC collection exercise is
3) The number of people whose cards are available and yet were told by INEC officials there cards were not ready
4) The nonchalant attitude of INEC's adhoc staff, I wonder how they were recruited and if they have the requisite training
5) The failure of INEC to actually do things properly with all the time they had (4 years) knowing how important this exercise is.
6) What will become of the uncollected cards before the elections
7) INEC is not creating much awareness regarding these issues on TV, Radio etc, most of the awareness created in this regard is personal effort
...and many more

I am not one of those calling for the postponement of the elections but INEC should admit their own failings and allow those with temporary cards to also vote in the elections, otherwise many people will be disenfranchised due to no fault of theirs but for INEC’s gross incompetence.

I hope to post a tread on what INEC should do to improve voter registration and efficient distribution and collection of PVCs.

Thank you.

Properties / Re: The Nigerian Tenancy Law On Eviction? by SUCCEED3: 10:52am On May 12, 2013
van bonattel:

I did not read anywhere in any of our law books that the landlord needs to explain to the tenant the reasons why he needs to repossess his property, whether you are paying him rent regularly or not. The landlord is at liberty to seek for the repossession of his house anytime he deems fit, the only thing the constitution mentioned is the proceedure for the recovery of his property, which must follow guidlines spelt out by the law.

That the tenant you mentioned in your example above paid N1.3m is nothing, what if the landlord spent over N100 million to build the same house? We should detach emotions from straight legal matters and consider both parties if there must be peace.

Your statement about the tenant suffering to search for a house and stories about the relocation of his young family is nothing but emotional blackmail, some tenants could be desperately wicked and will go to any lenght to frustrate their landlords.

But I tell you one bitter truth, in no place have I seen where a tenant wins a war between landlord and tenant. The tenant may seem to be winning, but will lose much more than what he gained by court settlements and other ways too numerous to mention. The landlord will also recover the money double from the next tenant, and the war will continue.

I am not a lawyer and may not know all the technical aspects of the Lagos tenancy law but I am not a complete novice.

I know that the Lagos tenancy law was promulgated to give some sort of protection to the vulnerable. Gone are the days when a landlord would use brute force or such similar means to eject a tenant from his apartment without due process. There used to be a time when some landlord could actually lock up an apartment and deny the tenant entry just because they wanted to repossess the apartment without any form of due process. Some would even use hired tugs and police in conjunction with their lawyers to throw things out of the apartment and claim they served some phony court papers to the tenant without the tenant’s response.

No matter how you look at it, you cannot rule out sentiments in some cases. So you think it is proper for a landlord to collect 2 years rent from a new tenant in addition to agency, agreement and caution fees and at the expiration of the 2 years he would ejects the tenant and collect another 2 years rent plus all the fees from another tenant and the cycle goes on like that. That is wickedness and I tell you the court would frown at that.

Yes some tenants are also wicked, some refuse to pay their rent and may try to exploit the legal system to perpetuate their stay in an apartment, but good enough the courts can also deal with that.

Even the law makes provision for mediation, instead of going to court with all the attendant troubles and being at war with each other, issues can be resolved faster through mediation, but where that fails legal action can then be taken.

I have heard instances where some landlords give tenants quit notices for reasons such as: My wife quarreled with your wife, he got promoted in his office, he is building his own house, he has more/better cars than me, your child beat up my child, you failed to do him a favour etc.

I still remember the case of P-Square and their landlord some years back, where the landlord introduced his son to P-Square and wanted P-square to sign him to their label and they declined and when the landlord got to know that they were building their own house he became furious, he issued them an eviction notice accusing them of all sorts.

The law always attempts to protect the more vulnerable, that is why by law a responsible organization cannot wake up one day and sack a good employee, who has not committed any crime, without proper compensation. Even though in the employment letter (agreement) the organization reserves the right to relieve the employee of his/her duties at any time.

Properties / Re: The Nigerian Tenancy Law On Eviction? by SUCCEED3: 12:52am On May 12, 2013
I don't know why most landlord think they can just wake up one day and issue an eviction notice to a sitting tenant when the tenant has not defaulted in rent payment, without reaching a suitable agreement with the tenant first.

Some years back a family friend with a wife, four children and other dependants, rented a 4 bedroom apartment at the rate of 500K per annum and he paid for 2 years plus additional 300k for agency-100k, agreement-100k, caution-100k making it a total of 1.3M that the man coughed out in a bid to make his family comfortable.

6 months to the expiration of the 2-year rent, the landlord issued him a notice through the lawyer that he would want to re-poses the apartment when the rents expired. Upon the expiration of the rent, my friend who is known to be a very peaceful man, pleaded with the landlord to accept his rent renewal or give him more time to get another good place considering that he has young children going to school and the last child is still below one year and moving house will definitely destabilize the family, especially the children as well as the other dependants, but the landlord refused.

Before you could say jack, the landlord had resorted to litigation and had taken the tenant to court. To cut a long story short, it’s now going to 2 years since the matter was taken to court and it has not been concluded. Today the landlord is seeking mediation after realizing that he did not handle the matter well. He has now reached an amicable agreement with my friend for him to leave the house in 4 months time which is what he should have done in the first instance, rather than going through a lengthy court process.

I’m not saying that it is wrong to settle tenancy issue in court, but in this case the landlord appeared to have been inconsiderate and wicked, considering that the tenant did not default and he had rented the apartment 2 years earlier paying agency, agreement and what have you and the landlord just wanted him to repeat the house hunting process all over again. The stress of searching for a house takes a lot of toll on people especially people with families and it is best for landlords to reach amicable agreements with their tenants instead of rushing to court unless such tenants are troublesome.

Sometimes I wonder if these government officials think through before they utter statements that are not factual. Do they really think Nigerians believe them?

For a government official to say that the whole country of 160 million people now have 16hrs steady power supply on a meager 4000MW total output is an disgrace to the office he represents.

Even with 20000MW of total output, Nigerians will still not have 16hrs of steady supply let alone a mere 4000MW output.

I'm really sad. In 2009, President Yaradua, GEJ and the then Power minister, Dr.Lanre Babalola promised to give us 6000MW by the end of 2009, four years after that failed promise for which GEJ as acting president appologised to Nigerians on new year day broadcast in 2010, they are generating only 4000MW and they want us to clap for them.

These people have really failed woefully.

I wonder if the president is not even ashamed of dishing out this promises, giving us specific times when they will be achieved and when the targets are missed, instead of issuing a n apology, he will come back and make yet another promise and the cycle goes on like that.

It's a shame that since 2009 when Late President Yaradua and Goodluck Jonathan together with the then power minister, Lanre Babaloa told Nigerians that they would generate 6MW of power by December 31 2009, that target is yet met to be met 3 and half years after and they want us the be celebrating 4.5MW as an achievement.

Honestly this government has failed so far as far as the power sector is concerned. Until Nigerians see any remarkable improvement in power supply, all this bogus statements will continue to general more anger that relief.

I don't treat any of the president's promises with much regards because I see them as mere statements and promises that will not be fulfilled.

I'm just fed up with the administration.

Music/Radio / Has Chaz B (host Of Sharing Life Issues) Resigned From Inspiration FM? by SUCCEED3: 7:57am On Mar 07, 2013
I heard from someone that the host of the popular radio programme - Sharing Life Issues - Chaz B has resigned from Inspiration 92.3 FM.

I noticed that Wana Wana, Chaz B's former co-host of the programme returned to the programme and has anchored it for the past two days. Last night an inquisitive caller asked Wana Wana about the story but she avoided it and said she would talk about it at the end of the programme. I was curious to know but Wana never talked about it at the end of the progamme as promised.

However, I seached the web for the news and here is a link to a similar story:

Music/Radio / Re: Tongue-lashing On Radio Talk Show by SUCCEED3: 5:57am On Mar 07, 2013
The presenters radio name/nick name is Freeze, I don't know his real name, but I must say that the said Freeze is too arrogant on radio, always too full of himself. I listened to that particular episode of the programme 2 days ago and I was totally dissapointed, even his co-presenter and subordinate Kaylah always trys to correct him.

The lady that called to correct him sounded very intelligent and was so persistent but Freeze kept interrupting her and not allowing her to express herself and eventually he cut her off without accepting that he was wrong to the disspointment of Kaylah because Kaylay was somewhat apologetic.

And to think that this same Freeze anchors a christian religious programme Praise Jam on Cool FM on Sundays and advises people makes it even worse. Since Dam Foster left that Radio station Freeze has been trying to fill his gap but he has been such a dissapointment. I hardly listen to Freeze unless it's a very important programme, anytime I tune to Cool FM and he's the presenter I tend to tune to another station.

I wish there was a way to caution and stop this sort of unprofessional conduct by some radio presenters to serve as a deterrent. This is common with Cool FM and her sister stations. Remember they have closed down theirs sister station Wazobia FM's Kano branch because of the carelessness of their presenters because they were accused of inciting the violence that led to the killing of 9 health workers some weeks ago.

There management should should really do something about this.

Business / DSTV Disconnecting Subscribers Before Subscription Expires by SUCCEED3: 1:51pm On Mar 05, 2013
Hello all,

For the 3rd time in 3 months, DSTV has disconnected me from the service 3 days before the date my subscription is supposed to expire.

When it happened the first time I ignored it. It happened again the second, I called their customer care lines (08039003788 and 012703232) severally but I was never attended to after being on the call for several minutes, however, I complained when I went to renew my subscription and they said they will rectify the problem. Now for the 3rd time, it has happened again. I wish there was a serious competitor and a good alternative to switch to.

I'm sure I'm not the only subscriber experiencing this denial of service, I have read in this forum someone complaining about this. I noticed, this problem started the first month I benefited from their 10% discount promo on subscription renewal before expiration.

Is any other person experiencing this problem? Pls. lets bring this to the attention of their management, I have sent an email since 2 days without any feedback.

Politics / Phcn Collected N3,500 Fixed Charge Before I Could Recharge My Phcn Prepaid Meter by SUCCEED3: 10:59am On Feb 25, 2013
Hello Nairalanders and Nigerians, please let’s talk about the N500 (Five Hundred Naira) monthly fixed charge being collected by PHCN before one could recharge the prepaid card.

MY story:
I was at the PHCN office last week to recharge my prepaid meter card. I planned to buy N4,000 worth of units. I handed the attendant my card and the N4,000 which is the amount for the units I wanted to buy. The attendant carried out the transaction and handed the card and the receipt/invoice back to me.

However, when I scrutinized the receipt I was surprised to realize that only N500 worth of power units was allocated while the remaining N3,500 was taken as fixed charge. When I asked for explanation from the attendant, here is what she said:

“You have not recharged your card for the last 7 months and you are supposed to pay N500 every month if you are using prepaid meter”

I was infuriated by this and I asked her to reverse the transaction that I didn’t know about that and was not prepared to pay any fixed charge let alone paying N3,500 and she should have told me before completing the transaction, but she said there’s nothing she could do about it and that she couldn’t reverse the transaction.

Previous experience:
I recall that I had bought N5,000 worth of prepaid units around July last year and between that time and now power supply has been very epileptic in my area. In fact for over two months from October to December last year we did not have power supply. The PHCN guys kept saying that the Feeder (whatever that means) that supplied power to our area was faulty. It was only this January the problem was fixed.

From some of my past receipts here are the tariff rates (It has been increased from N5.90 to N 12.50):
May 2011: N5.90; September 2011: N7.30; February 2012: N12.50

Questions:
1) Why must we pay N500 every month as fixed charge?

2) Why must we pay fixed charge at all whether we have light or not?

3) Why must we the masses continue to subsidize inefficiency?

4) What is the essence of charging fixed amount when energy tariff has been increase about 3 times in the last 2 years?

5) Why must government always come up with policies to enrich the cabals and impoverish the masses?

I have been using prepaid meter for over 4 years now and the meter was bought for over N25,000.00 (Twenty Five Thousand Naira) then. Before now they introduced Meter Maintenance Charge and were collecting N204 monthly as meter maintenance fee. Throughout this period they never carried out any maintenance on my meter. When people complained and complained, PHCN eventually agreed to remove it and now through the back door they have introduced fixed charge and more than doubled the amount.

This is not fair on the masses and I am not happy about it. Please lets talk about this.

Programming / Re: Asp.net And Php Which Is Better by SUCCEED3: 9:14am On Dec 04, 2011
@OP

I recently decided to make a career in programming and web application development, I've learnt (, and still learning) ASP.Net and have done some small projects with it. Currently I’m learning PHP although I’m yet to any project with it but I believe it has a lot of potentials. For my PHP *DHTML has been very helpful, you can check out the PHP classes from his site.

Although I may not be the most qualified to advise you, however, having worked in a number of enterprise environments and now being an entrepreneur, here are a few things I would want to say:

1)  Most (almost all) enterprises in Nigeria (Banks, Insurance companies, Pension companies-PFA's and Custodians, Telecoms, Breweries etc) run a lot of Microsoft based software (i.e.Active Directory, SQL Server, Office Suite, SharePoint, Microsoft Exchange e.t.c) and since ASP.Net is developed by Microsoft, it is much easier to develop web apps that leverage other Microsoft technologies, so often times integrating your ASP.Net apps with other Microsoft technologies is seamless.

For example, I recently built a small application for a PFA, the PFA runs MS Exchange and they've got Active Directory and SQL Server, it was most natural for me to build the application using .Net.

ASP.Net has got inbuilt models i.e. Membership, Role Management, personalization, Site navigation, Configuration, Webhpart and other models which have been designed to work seamlessly with Active Directory and SQL Server and makes your app development much easier. I can't imagine myself or anybody else for that matter building an application authorization and authentication targeted at Active Directory or SQL Server using PHP, that would be a hell of a task and may take days if not weeks to build, however, to achieve the same functionality in ASP.Net, it is just a matter of modifying two lines of code in Web.config or App config files.

So, what am I driving at? If you are building a web application to be used by an enterprise for example, ASP.Net or even Java may be most suitable for it and not PHP.

To drive my point home, InterSwitch, the pioneer transaction switching company in Nigeria has all their web applications (Quickteller, Webpay, Authopay, Paydirect e.t.c) developed with ASP.Net, these apps are powered by MS SQL Server back -end db so .Net is most natural for them to use and these apps have scaled quite well and they are being used by many people.

Another example is Computer Warehouse, re-sellers of Finacle Banking Software in Nigeria, most banks in Nigeria and other West African countries use Finacle and Computer Warehouse develops most web applications that integrate with the Finacle system using Java technology, Finacle is powered by Oracle Database and Oracle owns Java so you see the dependencies. I know we are not talking about Java here but I believe it's still related to the topic

2)  However, if you are developing a web application that is targeted at everybody across the globe, and your app is not going to be dependent on any other proprietary underlying technology, say you are building a Social Networking website that will give Facebook a run for their money, or you are building an online educational portal like *DHTML, Omo_to_dun and other Nairalanders are doing, or you are building a general purpose web portal for Classified ads, property listing, Group coupon, Business listing, photography, blogging e.t.c, then PHP may be a better option over ASP.Net. Enough has been said about all the major sites using PHP, our darling Nairaland is based on Simple Machine framework which is powered by PHP, and above all, the most popular sites in the world have at one point or the other used PHP. I need not say more.

Many reasons for the recommendation have been mention severally by previous posters viz:

PHP is free
PHP is open source
PHP has a large online community
PHP powers more website than ASP.Net
PHP has so many frameworks so you can choose the one best suited for what you want to do and adapt it
PHP is cheaper to host and support so you save more money
PHP seems easier to learn (well I cannot stick my neck on this, but from general opinion here)
PHP Most CMSes are based on PHP
PHP Compatible with more platforms
,
,

I believe there are others.

In conclusion, I'm not biased over one language more than the other, I really think it depends on what you want to do, end users of the application, your proficiency in your language choice amongst others. For me, I know ASP.Net more than PHP, I'm not yet a pro, my knowledge of ASP.Net is still intermediate, but I'm working towards becoming proficient in it. I'm a beginner in PHP and there's a project I plan to embark on soon that will be based on PHP, I know the project can be accomplished using ASP.Net but I do also believe that PHP is more suitable to use than .Net. I have decided to focus on the two languages and master them very well for future projects.

Question: Some people have mentioned that PHP is faster than ASP.Net, please can someone throw more light on this or provide some proof.  Speed is a major consideration when choosing a language over the other I believe?
And please the assertions above are only an opinion and may not be 100% correct, they are based on my little experience, but I they are open to criticism.

And please if you have a good ebook or document on PHP and Mysql for a Beginning, Intermediate and advanced learner, I would be very glad if you would kind enough to send them to success001 [at] yahoo [dot] com. I’m still a beginner but I’m eager to learn.

Thank you.

Programming / Re: I Have Decided To Become A Programmer/app Developer And I Need Some Guide by SUCCEED3: 7:30am On Nov 30, 2011
Bossman:

You will certainly SUCCEED if you work very hard. What you have going for you is that, you already have a background in computer science/programming. Like others said, pick the tools you need and learn it very well, then go from there. Even if it means working for someone, you will generate income and use that time to formulate your ideas.

In my opinion, you really have to love programming and be up to the challenge to be successful at it. Yes, it pays well, but it's certainly not easy. And this is where a lot of people go wrong. They go into it thinking 'money', however they can't withstand the challenge that goes with it.

There are lots of resources at your fingertips. Best of luck!

Thank you @Bossman for your advice and words of encouragement, I have taken the decision and I'm quite determined at it.
