Nigerians have taken to social media to say the former senator and an ex governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu can never become the next president of Nigeria come 2023. It is believe that some group of Nigerians are tipping him to become the sole candidate of APC when it is time to field the next candidate. However due to not extending the tenure of chief tax administrator ‘Tinubu’s boy’, Fowler, by firing him is a manner speaking that President Buhari is making a statement of some sort to the Southwest base of his party which Tinubu controls. Fowler, according to sources was handpicked by APC godfather, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to head the FIRS and has long been viewed as ‘Tinubu’s boy.’ He also answers to and swears by Bourdillon. It also helped that Fowler was a childhood friend and a former classmate of Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbaj who Tinubu handpicked but his wings has been allegedly clipped at the presidency. Meanwhile Nigerians who used the social media, Twitter says Tinubu is just deceiving himself because the Northerner leaders has clipped his hands and they will continue to do as to not make his ambition come through. Some Nigerians also said Tinubu doesn’t worth to be the next president of the country because he is so corrupt. Some of the reactions; @DokunOjomo said, “I am not God but common sense demands that no right thinking man or woman will ask for Tinubu to be president in 2023.” @Mr_BharseyM said, “It beat me so hard that while we should be making progress others are dragging us backwards and would end up complained bitterly. Why should a right thinking fellow ask for the presidency of BAT is this the best we can do?” @jacksonpbn said, “While Tinubu is busy collecting the list of APC members nationwide to reach out to them over his 2023 Presidential ambition, the cabal already have list of potentials from the North to take over from Buhari. Jagbajantist Jagaban is a fool but he would realize too late!” @JahmalUSEN said, “Watch and see how Nigerians will see Seyi Makinde in 2023 but still choose to vote for Tinubu as President. Either ways, Seyi Makinde for President 2023 ” @savndaniel said, “Campaigns for Tinubu as President of NIGERIA has started. There is nothing I will not read on this space. Young people full of life are campaigning for Tinubu. Lagos is the mess that it is today because of Tinubu. I know how Lagos was sold and bought by one man. All is well!” @Victorudofia12 said, “It's not a matter of if he is God or not it's a matter of the kind of person that Tinubu is The style of politics he play in Nigeria, money and corrupt practices. It Tinubu did this on elections day as a national leader what do you think he will do if he becomes president?” @farooqkperogi said, “Tinubu is fighting a war that has already ended! He has already lost that war, but he's too naive to realize this. They've got him by the balls. The writer of this column is quoting me today, but there's nothing that's happening today that I didn't predict since 2018. Comeuppance!” http:///s4969a9d0191223en_ngThanks

It is no more news that members of civil society and human rights organizations numbering about 200 met and granted a Press conference in Abuja with the aim of responding to the brazen attacks on human rights and freedom of Press in the Country. The intervention of 9th December became very necessary after the convener of RevolutionNow and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Mr Omoyele Sowore was re-arrested in Court by armed officers of the State Security Service (SSS) despite being released under bail. The coalition of civil society organisations (CSOs) have asked Major General Muhammadu Buhari to release Sowore within 14 days or face mass action. Image result for CSOs give Buhari ultimatum On behalf of the coalition, the convener of Enough is Enough (EIE), Yemi Ademolekun, said the shrinking of the media and civic space calls for concern, adding that there is a need to rise up against any action of the government that will stifle free speech. While listing five demands, she asked the president to obey all pending court orders and order the release of all those illegally arrested. Others include: the release of all illegally detained persons by Department of State Services (DSS), abiding by all pending court orders, investigation of the officer who violated protocols and circumstances leading to the second arrest of Omoyele Sowore, and unconditional release of Sowore. She said if these demands are not met within the time given, they would occupy all the offices of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) nationwide. The 23rd of December would be the last day of the 14-day ultimatum. Nigerians are anticipating the showdown and are asking if this would be the real deal or another ''talkshow''. https://cdn-af.feednews.com/news/detail/539b29aa7b5febeef51c9b83e2fc30f8?client=iosnews&features=8731492125

His impeachment doesn't mean automatic removal from office as he will still be the president of the United States and should be tried next year at the Senate on the recommendation that he should be removed. It should be recalled that the two former U.S presidents that were impeached during their tenure never removed they however survived the trial at the Senate. The trial will be presided over by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. However, some Nigerians have taken to the social media, Twitter, to let their voices out since the news break into the cyberspace. Is coming to the same media to cry for help & sympathy over, Mamman Daura's directive to Garba Shehu to not recognise her office.” @BhadmusAkeem said, “Small injustice melted out on Aisha Buhari in Aso Rock, she will run to Social Media to cry. Eskizz ma, you don't deserve our sympathy/audience, you deserve the likes of Mamman Daura, Garba Shehu and others” @FOnyeoziri said, “Aisha Buhari should leave the media out of her power tussle with Mamman Daura & Garba Shehu. Nobody is buying her faux patriotism anymore.” @Chxta said, “I stand with Mamman Daura. I clearly remember Candidate Buhari saying that there would be no "Office of the First Lady". Why does Mrs Buhari want us to make her hubby an oathbreaker? She should please go to za oza room.” @Paschalpax said, “Aisha Buhari after supporting social media bill comes to the same social media to cry wolf about Mamman Daura and Garba Shehu “ @cliqik said, “Summary of Aisha Buhari's press relase: -There's chaos in Aso Rock -We don't have a President -General Buhari is nonexistent in Aso Rock -Garba Shehu and Mamman Daura denied the first lady a seat at the national treasury, -She couldn't take it no more and decide to wail.” @boluxxxx said, “It's this same social media Aisha Buhari said they should ban she is always coming to cry. Traveling by air is the safest mode of mass transportation. In 2016, 325 people died in 19 airplane crashes worldwide. On its surface, this might seem like an alarming statistic. But when you consider that there are more than 3.5 billion air passengers, it becomes evident just how minimal the risk truly is. However in Nigeria, there have been some plane crashes but here are some of the crashes that shook the nation. 1)On November 20, 1969, 87 people lost their lives in a Vickers VC-10 Airplane which crashed in Lagos, Nigeria. The VC-10 took off from London to Lagos with a stopover at Rome and Kano. Upon approaching Lagos, the VC-10 descended below the normal approach path and struck trees. The aircraft crashed and caught fire. 2. On January 22, 1973, a Boeing 707 chartered by Nigeria Airways to fly pilgrims back from Jeddah to Lagos crashed in Kano and killed 176 people. Due to inclement weather in Lagos, the flight was diverted to Kano. The aircraft touched nose-wheel first and then collapsed along the runway centre line. Two crew members and 23 occupants were rescued alive. 3. On July 11, 1991, 261 people died after a McDonnell-Douglas DC-8 aircraft flying hajj pilgrims to Sokoto on behalf of the defunct Nigeria Airways, crashed in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, in the worst accident in the history of commercial aviation in Nigeria. The Nigeria Airways flight took off from Jeddah runway but shortly after take-off, at 2000-3000 feet, problems with the cabin pressure were reported. These reports were quickly followed by a burst tire and loss of hydraulics. The aircraft lost control and crashed in flames while trying to return. It was the worst accident involving a DC-8 and the second worst accident in Saudi Arabia at the time. The root cause of the flight was blamed on human errors at the Nigerian aviation system. 4. On September 26, 1992, 158 occupants died after Lockheed C-130H Hercules operated by Nigerian Airforce crashed near Lagos. After take-off, one engine failed, followed by a second engine shortly afterward. The crew tried to ditch the aeroplane into the Ejigbo canal, but then a third engine failed again. The Hercules crashed, nose-down into the swamp. The exact number of casualties is uncertain. But at least 150 Nigerians, five Ghanaians, one Tanzanian, one Zimbabwean, and one Ugandan were involved. 5. On November 7, 1996, a total of 144 people died after a Boeing 727 operated by ADC airline took off from Port Harcourt to Lagos and crashed in Ejirin in Epe, killing all its occupants. The aircraft crashed after it lost control during an evasive action maneuver. The pilot’s attempt to avoid a head-on collision with another aircraft failed. The aircraft crashed and disintegrated on impact. “The untidy traffic separation by the radar controller” was the immediate cause of the crash, investigations later revealed. Nigerians have taken to social media to react to what Aisha Buhari, wife of the president said on the social media bill. She said the social media bill should not be a problem to pass using China as an example. She said, “On this issue of social media, you cannot just sit in the comfort of your house and tweet that the vice president has resigned. It is a serious issue. If China can control over 1.3bn people on social media, I see no reason why Nigeria cannot attempt controlling only 180m people” She disclosed this on Friday, November 30, at the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) General Assembly and National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the National Mosque Abuja, with the theme, “Islam and National Development”. It should be recalled that the Nigerian Senate on Tuesday, November 5, re-introduced a bill that will regulate the use of social media in the country. The bill, ‘Protection from Internet Falsehood and Manipulations Bill 2019’ was one of the 11 bills read for the first time at the floor of the house. The sponsor of the legislation, Sen. Mohammed Sani Musa, said the bill was aimed at curbing fake news on the internet but this action has been greeted by controversial reactions. However, Nigerians who use the social media platform called Twitter, has condemned what the wife of the president said. Some of the reactions; @zaddy_nomso said, “Dear Aisha Buhari China also kills their corrupt Politicians, we would love Nigeria to start practising that first. Your Aide stole over N2bn, where he saw that money only you know.” @TheOsasCruz said, “Dear.... Aisha Buhari Now I know Buhari was Right, - Maybe you truly belong in the kitchen. China Executes their corrupt politicians, let’s attempt that. Social media is not the problem of Nigeria, Corrupt politicians are the problem we have.” Read more at: http:///s73bac5e5191130en_ng

Many have kept the stories of their assault and harassment a secret for decades. Experiences like these — shared by men and women tell a pervasive story of sexual harassment and sexual assault. Inappropriate sexual behavior exists in the workplace, on college campuses, in bars, inside homes, between friends and acquaintances. Many said they never told anyone for fear they would be shamed or doubted. But that, advocates say, could be a crucial step closer to changing one’s life. However, a young lady simply identified as Prettymaa_ has took to her Instagram page to narrate how she was raped at the age of 7. In this heart-broken tale, she narrated how a man allegedly stabbed her on her breast in an attempt to rape her in a second experience. She spoke about how parents have failed in bringing up their children and how the unfortunate incident caused her her relationship, reshaped her life in bad way and brought trust issues in her way of life. She wrote, “You see that picture i was approaching 8 and guess what i already knew what sex was. I grew up in warri, back of old airporr behind winners chapel church.. one of all those computers with 30 tenants ,one toilet and bathroom, the building was standing because of God. | waz chubby liked by everyone in the compound. They usually call me nyenye that's like the nickname of my native name "nyenrhovwo". We had this neighbor neXt to ours, an elderly woman with 8 boys, she fries groundnut so after school i walk to her backyard to help her fry and eat small.” “One of her sons "samy" was my fav, always buying me biscuits and gifts. If my mum is not around he stays with me and all. Till this very day ,i got back from school as usual went to mama's house to fry groundnut but no one was home except samy well as uncle things i stayed. That was how he carried me on his bed and started touching me. He closed my mouth so i wont scream loud. That was how my favorite uncle raped me after he was done he cleaned me up thoroughly and took me home. After some weeks i tried telling my mum ,do you know my mum assumed i was lying? Because she felt it couldn't be true. That was when my life started. I had to heal up bruises on my own and the thoughts on my own. I started developing trust issues, till date my trust issue is bad my previous relationships always end up because i cant seem to trust a man. We eventually left there to another place that was when i went A wire. I became stubborn ehn as in stubborn. I felt i could do things on my own, i joined the wrong friends. My parents felt then i was possessed or something because i lost control. They did all they could but i was far gone so they left me to my fate. At age 13,14 i leave my parents house without them knowing about my whereabout for weeks, months to stay in my friends houses. Good thing i was still going to school. You see bad friends forget it.. They were wayward so they didnt advice me to have sense so i was foolish like them so when i was around 14 going 15. My mum had a liquor shop in warri then so she had this particular ijaw man coming to buy things. Well i knew him very well. So on that day after school ,i just got out of the school gate and he drove pass and he stopped and offered to take me home which i innocently entered i just thought after all he's my mum's customer let me save my tp fare. That was how he got to one house and said he wanted to quickly drop some things in that house and that i should assist him carry some load. I joined him and we carried the things into the house, lo and behold this man locked the door and asked me to strip. For a min i was dumbfounded till a blow hit me ,he was like if i dont do as he says he was going to kill me. He was serious because he brought out a knife. I tried to struggle with him in the process he stabbed me pretty close to my chest,on my left breast that's y i hv a scar there looking like a tattoo but i tell people it was an operation to avoid long stories. He succeeded, cleaned me up and dropped me half way on the road. I got home no one was home i quickly cleaned up so my parents wont notice a thing because i had no intentions of telling them after all the first one happened they didnt believe its now this one? I just decided to keep it to myself. Weeks after my body changes, mumsu noticed i was having awful discharge immediately she took me to the hospital and result came i had a terrible infection. Doctors had to do a vaginal operation. My life then was in a mess but i always wore a smile. Back to back injections, treatment my hands and butt saw shege that period. I finally opened up to my parents ,but by then the man had packed out. These experiences created a mental and emotional damage to me. I started life quite early and i learnt my lessons in a very hard way. I had an ex i had the courage to tell my rape experience to, he laughed and told me i was lying, because of this ehn i started some of my past relationships with lies because i felt what was the point of being real when he wont believe me. Those so called friends even ganged up to kill me then because of envy. My rape experience affected my sexual life i rarely hv orgasm during sex, my insecurities became immeasurably high.. then i was strong,my heart was like a rock, you cant fight me oh. My growing up wasnt fun at all. I didn't get to experience those sweet childhood memories because i became an adult at a minor age. No one helped me retrace my steps, God did. We all hv stories to tell in one way or the other. How you make your bed is how you will definitely sleep on it. All these pain formed into anger because i was forced to heal up the hard way. Sometimes when i get angry its a different version of me u dont want to see, before i couldnt control it, gradually i started managing my anger issues”. She concluded that, “It's dead but its still in me so if you pish me to my limit it will erupt . Sometimes anything that will trouble my peace ,i try to avoid it , i either keep calm or walk away but if you push it well . So thank you for reading.... i hope you learnt from my story.” http:///s1883bb70191126en_ng

One would ponder why Nigeria has refused to progress as a nation in spite of claiming the Africa’s largest economy. Here are some lists of what is hindering Nigeria’s progress; 1. Insecurity There is a dramatic increase in killings, terrorism and the likes in the country. This has been one of the major problems facing the growth of Nigeria. None of the zones in Nigeria are excepted, they are all experiencing the crisis that comes with insecurity in Nigeria. In the North-East, we have the Boko-Haram, a militant Islamic group whose purpose is to institute Islamic law. They believed western education should be forbidden. They have killed thousands of people. On January 20, 2012 more than 200 people are killed when the group launched coordinated attacks targeting police, military, a prison and other targets in the city of Kano. Between June 3 to 4, 2014, over 400 people were also killed in the state of Borno leaving so many people displaced from their homes and settlements till date. Over one million people have been displaced in Maiduguri and this is because the Boko-Haram insurgency forced them to flee their homes. Similarly, the country has seen another phase of insecurity with the rise of bandits who are concentrated in the North-West states most especially Zamfara State. Also, the militancy in the South-South are part of the problems Nigeria is facing. They have resolved in Oil bunkering, this activities is promoted by the spate of insecurity in the country. We can’t underestimate the killings of the Fulani Herds men on the farmers across the country. This has made the agricultural productivity of the country to reduce because large number of farmers couldn’t go for farming because of the killings by the Fulani Herds Men. 2. Corruption Corruption has been one of the problems the country is facing in the country. It has eaten deep into the root of the system and this has caused various sector of the country to collapse. The current ruling government is not performing its functions as promised, and officials are too busy enriching their pocket instead of governing effectively. Corruption is a global menace but Nigeria suffers the most of all. Nigeria is oil producing country, this helps the economy of the country and the huge export number generates income especially the excess crude gains. All the money gained from these sales are not openly accountable to the general public. Different projects, project like road construction, building of hospitals and others are used in siphoning funds. Some public officials are seen buying million dollar mansions and accumulating stolen funds in financial places. This has hindered the progress of the country. 3. Unemployment The rate of unemployment of youths in the country is very high. According to a November report by... Read more at: http:///sbd2295f191121en_ng

Microsoft Founder, Bill Gates has, once again, reclaimed the position of the world’s richest person, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Gates’ rise above Bezos (who now has a net worth of $109bn), could be attributed to a recent Pentagon contract. Beating out Amazon, Microsoft signed a $10bn cloud-computing deal, prompting a surge in their shares – Amazon’s, however, dropped by about 2% after the announcement. He replaces Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, at the top spot after Microsoft’s shares went up nearly 48 percent this year. It was gathered that Microsoft’s success this year has been helped by winning a US Pentagon $10 billion cloud-computing contract in October. It is the first time in over two years Gates has held the top spot although in October he briefly topped Bezos after Amazon reported a profit drop. Ironically, the last time Gates made headlines... President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to return to his hometown, Daura, after his second term in office. He stated this on Wednesday, just before he addressed the nation on the forthcoming governorship and national assembly elections. On the elections, he called on Nigerians to ensure that the governorship and state houses of assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, March 9, 2019, are better than the February 23 presidential election. The President also restated his commitment to ensuring that he does the best for Nigeria. His words: “At the end of this second and final term, I will, God willing, return to Daura and settle down. Until then, I will continue to do my best for Nigeria, in security, infrastructure, jobs, fighting corruption. I will work even harder than I have done; I will not let Nigerians down.” In his national broadcast on the Saturday elections Wednesday evening, Buhari urged Nigerians not to be complacent but ensure active participation in the elections. THE FULL SPEECH The second and final phase of the 2019 general election comes up on Saturday, March 9, with Nigerians voting for governors and members of the Houses of Assembly in the states. Let me once again extend my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and who sustained injuries as a result of accidents or criminal violence during the elections. The onus is once again on qualified people to turn out in large numbers to exercise their civic rights. With the presidential poll behind us, let us not become complacent or fail to vote in the gubernatorial poll. The forthcoming elections are as important for good governance as that of the presidency and the National Assembly. Indeed, governance at the state level is closer to us and should touch our lives more directly. That is why it is vital for us to participate in the choice of who governs us at the state level. I, therefore, urge you to troop out massively on Saturday to elect your governors and state lawmakers. As a member of the All Progressives Congress, I recommend those standing on the platform of the party to you as we are guided by progressive ideals and would not disappoint you. Equally, I urge you to comport yourselves properly as you turn out for the elections. Avoid all deviant behaviours like ballot stuffing, ballot snatching and any other action that does not conform to best electoral practices. I assure you that the security agencies will be on hand to protect the voters, and ensure that the process is not undermined in any way. Let us make the gubernatorial polls much better than the presidential, which local and international observers have adjudged to be free and fair. May I repeat my appeal to our young people: Do not allow yourselves to be used to cause violence or to break the law or otherwise disturb the peace. I pledged decent and credible electoral system for our country. I stand by that promise. Let us together do the right thing on Saturday so that the best hands can emerge in the states and take us faster to the next level. Thank you and God bless our country. Amin. http://saharareporters.com/2019/03/06/im-going-daura-settle-down-after-my-second-term-says-buhari

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered for oral evidence in a suit filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) seeking an order to forfeit the sum of N9.2billion and $8.3million linked to Patience Jonathan. Giving the order, Olatoregun said: “I have stated here that the right of parties in this suit cannot be determined by affidavit evidence unless the oral testimonies are called with cross extermination. I hereby order parties to call upon their witnesses so that the right of parties can be determined one way or the other.” Justice Olatoregun had earlier dismissed numerous preliminary objections filed by Patience Jonathan and her co-defendants that temporary forfeiture made in May 2018 is an abuse of court process. "I hold that this suit was filed under section 17 of the Advanced Free Fraud and Related Offences Act, which an action in realm thereby cannot constitute and abuse,” the Judge ruled. Consequently the case was adjourned till March 13 and 14 for oral evidence. Justice Olatoregun had, in May 2018, granted temporary forfeiture of N9.2billion and $8.4million linked to the embattled former First lady. The judge made the order on the application filed and argued by Rotimi Oyedepo, counsel to EFCC, on April 20, 2018. The funds were said to be in the custody of Skye Bank Plc, Diamond Bank Plc, Stanbic IBTC Bank and First Bank Plc. The judge also directed EFCC to publish the order in a national newspaper within 14 days of the order and that the respondent be served. Listed alongside Mrs Jonathan as respondents in the suit include one Esther Oba and five companies – Globus Integrated Services Limited, Finchley Top Homes Limited, Am-Pm Global Network Limited, Pagmat Oil and Gas Limited and Magel Resort Limited. Hellijia Tukura, an EFCC investigator, who deposed to a 15-paragraph affidavit in support of the application, claimed that investigations by the agency showed that the funds found in the bank accounts linked to Mrs Jonathan emanated from the coffers of the Bayelsa State government. The funds, he said, were moved when the former first lady served as a permanent secretary in one of the ministries in the state. According to Tukura, Mrs. Jonathan first opened a First Bank account and then “procured” Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, the then Senior Special Assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan on Domestic Affairs, to fund the account with “proceeds of unlawful activities”. “The said Dudafa Waripamo-Owei procured one Festus Isidohomen Iyoha and Arivi Eneji Peter, who were domestic staff attached to the State House, Abuja, to deposit the funds, reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities, into account of the 1st respondent (Mrs Jonathan). “In depositing the funds into the account of the 1st respondent, the said domestic staff, in a bid to conceal their identity, deposited the funds, reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful act, into the 1st respondent’s account, using fictitious names. “The total sum of $4,036,750.00 (Four million, thirty-six thousand, seven hundred and fifty United States dollars) reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities, were deposited into account No. 2022648664 domiciled in First Bank Plc in the name of the 1st respondent. “On the 28th day of September, 2016, the 1st respondent, in dissipating the property sought to be forfeited, transferred the sum of $3,640,794.72 to the 1st respondent’s account No. 2031277178 domiciled in First Bank Plc. On the 5th day of October, 2016, the 1st respondent withdrew the sum of $1,000,000.00 cash from the said account leaving the balance of the sum of $3,645,013.73 which sum we are urging this honourable court to forfeit in the interim to the Federal Government of Nigeria. As at the time the various sums were deposited into exhibit EFCC01, the 1st respondent was a serving permanent secretary in the employment of the Bayelsa State Government. “The funds sought to be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria are not the 1st respondent’s lawful earnings but are rather reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.” The deponent further stated that the companies mentioned in the application were not into “any legitimate income-yielding business venture” but were rather incorporated at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) for the purpose of warehousing proceeds of unlawful activities for the former first lady. He said domestic servants at the Presidential Villa were regularly sent to deposit money into the companies’ accounts for Mrs. Jonathan. “The depositors into this account are domestic staff of State House, Abuja, procured by the said Dudafa Waripamo-Owei, to deposit the funds sought to be forfeited in a bid to conceal the true origin of the funds,” Tukura said. Making specific reference to Globus Integrated Services Ltd., Tukura said: “None of the Directors of the 2nd respondent are signatories to the said account.” The 2nd respondent was also said to have opened account number 2110002269 with Skye Bank Plc., mainly to retain proceeds of unlawful activities. The deponent also added that the accounts were opened in the name of the 4th-6th respondents in Diamond Bank Plc. solely to retain funds reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities. “Account No. 0016971559 was opened in the name of the 4th respondent (Am-Pm Global Network Limited) with Stanbic IBTC Bank and was used to warehouse N317,397,458 .26 reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities,” the deponent said. http://saharareporters.com/2019/02/28/court-calls-oral-evidence-efccs-suit-strip-patience-jonathan-n92bn-83m

Publisher of online news portal Saharareporters and the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, took many by surprise after polling the third highest votes in the just concluded presidential election. Several candidates on Saturday contested for the presidential stool but were defeated by Muhammdu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who polled 15,191,847 votes while his main contender, Atiku Abubabakar of the Peoples Democratic Party got 11,264,977 votes to come second. However, Sowore, 48, who was seen as the underdog during the electioneering campaign surprisingly, came third with 33,953 votes ahead of other big shots like Fela Durotoye of the Alliance for New Nigeria, ANN, 16,779 who polled and Kingsley Moghalu of the Young Peoples Party, YPP, who garnered 21,886 votes. During the presidential debate, Sowore was not invited due to his controversial nature but Durotoye and Moghalu were invited. Born February 16, 1971, Sowore a blogger, writer, lecturer, human rights activist and public commentator on national issues, is an indigene of Ondo State from South-Western Nigeria. He is the founder and CEO of Sahara Reporters a notable online media platform that has been credited for high-level political, social and economic stories and reports, that have been described as sometimes controversial. Mr. Sowore studied Geography and Planning at the University of Lagos, and then furthered his studies with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Columbia University, New York, USA. During his undergraduate days in University of Lagos, Sowore was active in student unionism and was elected President of the Student Union Government between 1992-1994. He declared interest in the presidential seat last year with the Take It Back Movement on the platform of AAC. http://dailypost.ng/2019/02/27/presidential-election-final-result-sowore-shocks-kingsley-moghalu-fela-durotoye-come-third-behind-atiku/

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, says President Muhammadu Buhari’s threat to ballot box snatchers is aimed at scaring away voters on election day. Sowore said if Buhari was sincere about stopping electoral malpractice, he would have focused on the sponsors of ballot box snatchers and not the actors only. The AAC candidate said this during an interview with our correspondent on Wednesday. The activist said Buhari had shown that he was still a dictator as he made no mention of arresting and prosecuting ballot box snatchers but went ahead to suggest killing. He said if the President was really serious about stopping electoral malpractice, he would have stopped his part from engaging in vote-buying. Sowore said, “General Buhari is clearly still a military dictator at heart. Ballot box snatching is a terrible offence, but how could anyone ask for an offender to be killed without recourse to the law? Are there no courts? Shouldn’t an offender be charged to court first? “It is ironic that the same person who is quick to ask for ballot box snatchers to be killed, has no problems with heading a party that engages in massive vote-buying and rigging as we saw in Ekiti and Osun. “While Buhari called for the ballot box snatchers to be killed, what about the people who sent them to snatch the ballot boxes? What about the politicians who paid them to cause chaos at the polls? By raising the spectre of violence at polling centres and encouraging law enforcement agencies to shoot during elections, the President is essentially scaring people away from the polls. “He knows that ballot rigging has been a sad but persistent feature of Nigerian elections. This threat is not really directed at ballot box snatchers, but a deliberate attempt to scare people away from the polls. I call on all Nigerians not to be deterred or scared away from the polls.” The Sahara Reporters publisher, who also lambasted the Independent National Electoral Commission for postponing the polls, said he already knew INEC would delay the elections and he had prepared adequately. He said the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party were the biggest beneficiaries of the postponement because they were the richest parties in the country. When asked if he had the N800m needed to deploy polling agents in all the polling units and voting points across the country, Sowore said he did not need such a an amount because people were willing to volunteer. Sowore added, “We are a true grassroots organisation. The ‘TakeitBack’ movement and the African Action Congress are present in every geopolitical zone and in every state. We will have agents in every state and in most of the polling units in the nation. “We introduced digital methods into the agent recruitment exercise. In addition to the physical compilation of the names of those interested in being party agents, we developed online methods and an app that allowed us to mobilise agents as well. “Unlike the APC and the PDP that will pay about N5,000 to N10,000 per agent and spend between N600m and N1.2bn on them across all the polling units in the country, we are a volunteer driven organisation.” The former student union leader, who fought for the mandate of the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 election, MKO Abiola, said he was not deterred by the decision of some of MKO’s children to endorse Buhari following the President’s decision to declare June 12 as Democracy Day. He said Buhari did so for political reasons but admitted that it was a good decision. Sowore said, “The June 12 struggle was not about Abiola or his family. It was about moving Nigeria forward. My engagement in that struggle was to ensure that we had a country where democratic tenets reigned supreme, where military dictatorship was eliminated and where the Nigerian people could freely choose their own leaders. “In all of the 30 years that I have been involved in the Nigerian political system, I have not supported persons, but instead I have fought for principles. When Obasanjo wanted to extend his tenure, I fought against that.” When asked if he would accept the result of the election if he loses, Sowore said he would only do so if the exercise is free and fair. On what would be the focus of his administration if elected, Sowore said he would focus on security, restructuring, infrastructure and the enthronement of democratic norms. He said he would form a shadow cabinet once he is declared winner and this would allow for an easy transition. Sowore said, “I have developed a 10-point agenda built on three pillars of security, self sufficiency and sustainability. The 10-point agenda addresses problems in the areas of security, power, infrastructure, corruption, economy and jobs, restructuring, health care, education, agriculture and tourism and the first letter of each program spells out SPICER HEAT. https://punchng.com/buharis-ballot-box-threat-aimed-at-scaring-voters-sowore/

Popular musician, Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, widely known as ‘Iyanya’, says Nigerians will remember Omoyele Sowore forever if he emerges President in the general election rescheduled for Saturday, February 23, 2019. This has come as a boost for the presidential ambition of Omoyele Sowore, contesting on the platform of the African Action Congress (AAC). Iyanya made the statement when he appeared on Sowore’s #OurTime, a programme Sowore anchors to keep supporters updated on his campaign. Commending entertainers for their contribution to advancing the country, Sowore noted that the industry and talent of musicians, as well as actors and actresses, have put the country favourably on the international scene. Speaking with Sowore on #OurTime, Iyanya said: “I strongly believe that if someone like you goes in there, I’m sure you would do things that will make Nigerians remember Sowore for the rest of our lives and I’m wishing you the best.” Iyanya commended Sowore’s SPICERHEAT agenda, stating that his plans would make the country better and help support the production of entrepreneurs. “Imagine a Nigeria where everybody has light. What it means is that my nephew, who wants to start work, doesn’t need to buy a generator set. With the number of generators we have in Nigeria and the people who are exporting them, we can’t get power supply in Nigeria,” he said. He expressed support for all young candidates seeking political positions in the coming elections, saying it is time Nigerians supported young candidates — because the country needs a “saviour” to salvage the deplorable situation of the country. “I am sitting with you because every time I watch you, you speak facts. I’m also sitting down here to say let’s give young people a chance. If you go there and do well, I will support you forever, and Nigerians will support you. What Nigeria needs now is a saviour but nobody is holy. “I agree with you that it is time for the government to let young people come up to office; it is time to make new heroes, especially the young generations, because Nigerians need people who love the people. “The people are suffering today because there is no love coming from above to the lowest level. There are people who are suffering, who appreciate money as low as N100. So, it is time for the government to allow young people who have the relationship with the young generations to come in and bring new ideas and change the game, because the situation right now is not good for the people out there and it is really bad.” Stating why celebrities are not coming out to publicly endorse politicians, Iyanya said the people come after them and sometimes attack them when the candidates they support fail to perform. In his remarks, Sowore said: “Nigeria is at a point where there must be a generational transition. The old generation of leaders who are analogue thinkers must give way for the digital generations.” http://saharareporters.com/2019/02/20/nigerians-will-forever-remember-you-if-you-become-president-iyanya-tells-sowore

- Politicians have been blamed for the postponement of 2019 general election - Mike Igini claims that a plethora of petitions against the commission with regards to primaries was one of the main reasons - The INEC REC in Akwa Ibom also accused politicians of not sticking to the commission’s timetables Mike Igini, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Akwa Ibom has revealed that the failures of political parties to stick to INEC’s timetables and a plethora of petitions against the commission with regards to primaries, was one of the main reasons why the 2019 general elections was postponed. Igini made this known when he appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics. “Today within this period we are talking about, we have had a total of 640 cases joining INEC, and a total of 14 court orders either asking INEC to add or remove a name,” Igini stated. - El-Rufai replies critics According to him, issues stemming from various party primaries caused a delay in the printing of ballot boxes which indirectly added to the rescheduling of the elections. He also claimed that INEC was left with just one month to produce over 400 million ballot papers due to the way the parties handled their primaries. Going further, he added that following the issues with ballot papers, the commission was also faced with the issue of moving the heavy pallets across the country by air and by road and as a consequent of this, the time was not enough. Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Dr Kechi Ogbuagu, president of Conversations for Change (C4C), an NGO, urged Nigerians not to be deterred by the postponement of the 2019 general elections, but vote on Saturday, February 23, to avoid voter apathy. Ogbuagu, who gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola on Sunday, February 17, said that the postponement of the Saturday presidential and National Assembly elections was unexpected. Femi Anikulapo-Kuti, Nigerian musician and son of the late afro-beat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has called on young people to plan for a landslide victory against the corrupt establishment. He made the call at the New Africa Shrine, Ikeja, Lagos while hosting Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC). Femi, who is also a human rights activist, spoke on the sudden postponement of the elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). "This bunch of people, them yeye no be small. How can you just wake up and say you are not ready? What have you been doing for the past four years?," he asked. Lifting Sowore's hand, he continued: "If I’m going to endorse somebody, this is the type of person I will endorse. If there is a person I will endorse, I will endorse a young man that will lead a young generation to the future, to provide good schools, to provide good health care, good roads, electricity." He advised Sowore to keep to his promise, saying: “This country needs this; do this now; every corner of this country. Roads must be fixed; a minimum of five great hospitals; all universities must be of international standards. Nothing less; no excuses. A government that will not give you excuses; a government that is ready to work immediately it is empowered; a man that is ready to go to the four corners of this country not that he will be sweating: 'Hey, I don tire, hospital today hospital tomorrow'. "I told you, this is the time to plan. They are a bunch of failures. The youth must be ready so that there is a landslide in every corner. Nobody must steal again in this country; everybody must have equal opportunity to be successful; one man's success is everybody's success.” http://saharareporters.com/2019/02/18/you’re-kind-candidate-i’ll-endorse-femi-kuti-tells-sowore
