I could not agree more with the bolded statement, and it is precisely what I have been advocating for a long time for black people collectively to be doing - BUT WHICH THEY HAVE NO INTEREST IN DOING (partly because of their tendency to see so-called "white" people as gods - which they are not). There is no bigger advocate of (genuine) black independence than me, and that necessarily includes financial and economic independence.

And, incidentally, it is not an either or thing, as most black people strangely tend to talk as if it is. One can work for true independence as a people while at the same time acknowledging the realities of the hostile nature of certain other groups towards them and any attempt by them to be collectively free. In fact, such recognition of reality is a necessity, without which you can't really have true independence.

I was aware that evb2000 had starting making some money in Nigeria through KDP before he moved to Canada. I was only referring to the extent of it. Even then I may have made a mistake in my reading or characterization of the whole thing. But that does not change the overall point I had been making, I never said that one is not allowed to make any amount whatsoever even within Nigeria or Africa as a whole. But there is a certain level of income that seems to trigger the alarm bells of Amazon and causes a shutdown action with respect to black authors, especially those in Africa, regardless of whether they are working honestly or not. And that is in addition to the fact that the algorithms seem to be very much rigged against them in the first place. In fact, most of the evidence I have seen for this is actually based on the experiences of black American authors.

Like I said towards the end of my previous post, I am very much open to being corrected and proved wrong. I would be happy to be wrong on this. I like to think that, in spite of how things may look, we are nevertheless in a fair system. The problem is that I just have not seen any actual evidence that that is the case.
shocked

I'm not expecting anybody to like us "black" folks, I don't care about that. However, the war did not start today — there's a reason China is avoiding a direct conflict with the West. The Chinese are focused on building their own system which will in turn create a multipolar world where they can stand up to their enemies' aggression. How many African countries are willing to pay the price for this?

Look, you can not keep begging for respect — you take it! It was the America's hostility with the USSR that brought about the rise of China and even when the Americans kept sourcing for cheap labor in China, these Chinese weren't all about screaming "Chinese people matter," they laid low, kept their eyes on their long-term goals and now look at China.

Like I said, instead of blacks complaining about how rigged the system is, they can simply create their own system. We have a whole continent full of black people — AFRICA! We got the population but how are we taking advantage of that like China did? Do you know how much has been embezzled by the same black folks in power in just Nigeria??

To attain power, you study how those that came before you did that and in today's world, you can not do that through violence like Hamas; all you have to do is lay low and keep working because surely no empire in history stays at the top forever — our time will come if we WORK! Where's the Roman empire today?

@Tomman, I lost interest in reading your comment when you said the reason he might have made that amount was because of his location — Canada. If you're really great observant, you'd understand kdp played a vital role in evb2000's 'relocation' to Canada — he clearly stated that. Matter of fact, we all witnessed that.

I've been ignoring your comments because I do not want to discredit your claims because I'm no expert on this topic and I understand how powerful racism, tribalism, and other isms that exist can be — which means there MIGHT be some truths in wst you're saying.

However, I think it's about time black people start becoming victors instead of victims. I don't care if Europeans or their cousins in America like me — like heck, even in Nigeria, there are Igbos and Yorubas here on Nairaland who believe a person's ethnicity is enough reason to judge them.

So, rather than screaming "them whites don't like us," start working SMARTLY to build a system that will favor you and your people — besides, that's what the Chinese did and are still working on. Compare that with what African countries are doing — tragic comedy!

Guys should go to Twitter and see Nigerians -- living in Nigeria -- doing $5k+ monthly conveniently. Check ife of ifeva group. In fact, they are plenty.

Africans, and Nigerians in particular, are doing okay on kdp. There are many white authors who can't even boast of 10k monthly. Evidence dey.

I'm done with that travel guide but decided to postpone my children's book plan. My next plan is to focus on self help niche and drop like 7 well-written books per series. evb2000:
I don't understand the angle you are coming from. People have different publishing goals and they are doing great. Ofcourse, as Nigerians, living in Nigeria, we can't compete with most American Authors, but there are Nigerian authors in the US doing well by virtue of the fact that they can walk into any media house and advertise their books. However, you don't expect an author in Nigeria to compete with the likes J.K Rowlings or Dan Brown? Because we don't have the budget and exposure to market your books like they do. Besides, they are brand names and building a brand takes years of hardwork.

Now, let's bring it back home. Success is relative, what you feel is sucess may not be success to the other person. Some authors just need book royalties to put food on their table, while others want to build a brand. However, there are many "successful" self-publishers that I know and others that I know are Nigerians but not close to doing $1k, $2k, $6k, $7k and $10k a month. Like, I said, success is relative. But don't expect to churn out poor quality books with AI and be successful. Don't expect to be successful without a good budget for marketing your books.

Bring it back to the question on how well i am doing? I am not a guru neither will i claim to be so successful because I am still a work-in-progress. But the little i have gotten from publishing, i have documented in my diary. If not for anything, I can afford to fund my MSc program and take care of my living expensis while schooling in the west, which I give all the glory to God.

Since then, I have never made an attempt to speak Igbo to an Igbo person EVER. I speak English straight. If he wants to cheat me, let him cheat me.

I went to a shop last year to buy an electronic and the sales girl there started speaking Igbo to me. I understood what she was saying, but I was upset that she just assumed I was Igbo.

I'm so sorry for that bad experience, I understand how badly that can hurt a man's ego. Their ignorance is so provocative because they're not even ready to learn. I perfectly understand you sir. Please don't take that "fake Igbo" tag serious, most people who use it on others are very ignorant and dumb — most fall under the first category and the rest fall under the latter willingly and unwillingly.

Most of the dumb ones can not engage me in a debate on this issue because they're just like an average Nigerian. These people do not know the origin of the concept of today's Igbo identity, these are the idiots who believe they are superior to other Igbos — pathetic! Typical black people. I'm talking about the Anambra vs Enugu and so on e-warriors.

You know what makes them so dumb and foolish? Old Anambra was created from the northern half of East-Central state in 1976 grin, then in 1991, it was divided into two states — Enugu state and Anambra state grin. You see why these guys are dumb? Even the rest of the states known as Igbo states were all calved from the same region as the first two. There are a lot of them on Nairaland creating threads to belittle others — that's why Ojukwu said we must "denigerianize" in his speech (Ahiara Declaration).

Most of these guys scream "Biafra" at the tip of their voice but are just like the average Nigerian.

Boss, although some of them might be dumbos; however it is important to understand some are just genuinely curious. I'm not gonna lie, when I first learned about those Igbo relatives in other states — I was fascinated. This must be one of the reasons Bro Onyema could do no wrong in my eyes back then grin.

I never knew much about some of Igboid groups until I came on Nairaland and was quite surprised about how they felt about the people known as Igbos today.

So, I'm sure we can also agree that the today's concept of the Igbo identity is a recent creation... An "Igbo" person from the communities bordering Rivers is more related to you than another Igbo from Nsukka. There's this man (Bro Onyema) I respect so much (you remind me of him smiley) as a kid, he would say he's not Igbo but looked like the stereotypical Igbo man and easily fit in with Igbos -- we all believed him but whenever he was speaking in his kwale dialect I understood everything more than I understood people from Nsukka grin.

Yes, they are not Igbos! Even if Onitsha say that they're not Igbos, when Biafra is established I will gladly vote in support of that because we don't want anyone sabotage our efforts. Sometimes I wonder if those of you who claim to be Igbo on Nairaland are actually Igbos, absolutely no Igbo man has time for this shi.t. I've never seen my mother telling people who do not want to be identified as Igbos that they are, what's so special about these guys that y'all keep making them feel like the great Igbo nation is trying to force an identity on them?

If you understand history or ethnicity, you will understand that regardless of what these guys say, we are all closely related but it's obvious most of them and the Igbo identity enforcers do not know sh.it about history. There is a reason why Europeans are closely related to one another even if they claim to be different people, that's why English is a Germanic language.

An Aro man is more related to efik people than Nsukka people that share more with Igala people, that's the beauty of our people yet when we are all still related somehow (that's why Ashkenazi Jews are more related to Europeans than other Jews from other parts of the world), when you understand that today's concept of the "Igbo ethnicity" wasn't the same thing 300 years ago then you'd understand why you must let them identify as whatever they want and why our ancestors never tried to build an empire. And yes, whether the Igboid groups like it or not, they are related to Igbos but let them be!

THEY ARE NOT IGBOS! Do not create another Nigeria in the Igbo Nation. RESPECT THEIR DECISION AND LEAVE THEM ALONE!
