Buhari enhanced hardship in fight against terrorism — Security expert

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)

Security consultant and defence strategist, Col. Hassan Stan-Labo (rtd.), has said former president Muhammadu Buhari did nothing in the fight against terrorism in the country, rather he made the fight harder to win.

Col. Stan-Labo made this statement during an interview on Arise News on Wednesday.

The military expert insisted that Buhari, instead of fighting terrorism, romanced with those perpetrating the act and even granted amnesty to some terrorists that were nabbed.

He urged the new administration not to follow in the same direction and do things differently.

He said, “I agree that General Buhari in the last eight years or thereabout did virtually nothing and I mean virtually nothing in our fight against terrorism, if anything, he promoted and enhanced our hardship as far as our fight against terrorism is concerned.

“It’s unfortunate that we’re talking about our number one citizen as at then within the period of the last eight years, a period I refer to that Nigeria had no political leader.

“We saw all the lines of actions taken by the political strategic level of decision making, we saw all the lines of actions even from the presidency, we saw how minister who had business or things to do do with terrorists were made to remain in their positions as ministers, one was even in charge of our entire national data, we could go on and on.

According to Stan-Labo, the former administration allowed undue sentiments right from the presidency to be visited in its alleged, purported action against terrorism. The Colonel said one could read religion, tribalism, ethnicism and so on in the administration’s fight against terrorism.

“It’s unfortunate, and at the sub national level we had governors, especially, up north where I come from, that had all sorts of romance and unholy relationship with terrorism, degenerating to a situation where some of them were even talking about amnesty, it was shocking to some of them. Amnesty for who? You tell me they are repentant terrorists, repentance from what? We are soldiers, our duty is not to grant your repentance, our duty is to hasten your appointment with God, to heaven or hell where he would grant you penance.

“So, for us to be bringing large number of men from the forest who hitherto were armed and taking on fellow Nigerians, then on the appearance of soldiers they drop their weapons and you’re compelled as a professional to take them PWs and you bring them back to us, and say they are repentant what? And then you give their godfathers sitting in government houses to begin to talk about amnesty and even referring us to how amnesty was granted to some chaps way back under president Yaradua, in the creeks, its unfortunate,” he said.

Speaking concerning the President Bola Tinubu’s method of fighting the same war, he said he has not noticed a difference. He then urged the President to act differently in order to end the terrorism fight.

He said, “Now, we have a new administration in place, in the last six or seven months, I have not seen a change, so to speak, from what has been happening in the last eight years. We hope that the president now is not listening to some ill advice coming in from some elements or people who have sympathy with the last administration to him as to how to fight terrorism.

“We have an ample opportunity now to change the gal in how we fight terrorism. I will appeal to my colleagues in the military. I understand very much what the rules of international law of war says concerning PWs and so on. I must tell you gentlemen, if we’ve got to fight this war and come out of it unscratched and make sure that we don’t eventually leave this war for our grandchildren to fight continually because of our attitude then we’ve got to face this war and face it with all the brut it calls for and not to start heaping PWs here and there. The more PWs we gather, the more we are healing up a reserve force for belligerents, who tomorrow will face our children.”

I once attended a church years ago looking for miracle, only for the yoppie pulpit Bandits to tell us to buy canes(pankere) and all those small children balls and instructed us to keep flogging the balls for our miracles.

That our miracles will come if we by any chance succeeded in deflating the well pumped up balls with our canes.

Churches should step up by caring for their members,so many persons are going thru alot.

Lolxx

Truthfully speaking, many Nigerian churches has made going to church unattractive to people.

From the moment you step feet into the church up until you left, it's all about money money money, giving giving giving.
No time for indepth teaching of the word of God or praise and worship.

A Nigerian Comedian Timi, who's based in the UK has alleged that the Church he attends in the UK, Destiny Church, gave out One hundred pout (£100) and other food items totalling over £150,000 to members of the church for Christmas.
The excited timi is comparing Nigerian churches who would rather demand for first fruit of the year, to UK church that's giving to support members.

TOKYO and LONDON -- Japanese officials issued a tsunami warning and evacuation warnings after a powerful earthquake struck the west coast on Monday afternoon.

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.5 struck at about 4:10 p.m. local time, with its epicenter on the Noto Peninsula, along the Sea of Japan, according to U.S. Geological Survey data.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said it measured the quake at a preliminary magnitude at 7.6, adding there had also been more than a dozen smaller ones, including aftershocks.

Japanese officials had issued a major tsunami warning for the peninsula and surrounding Ishikawa Prefecture before downgrading it about five hours later to a tsunami warning. The lesser warning said waves could be expected high as 3 meters, or about 10 feet, near the epicenter, down from 5 meters, or about 16 feet.

Authorities were urgently directing the population to move to higher ground. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's office issued a statement telling residents nearby to evacuate immediately. People were being urged not to go to the coast and to stay away from waterways.

Tsunami threats were in effect along Japan's west coast, according to the U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center. Outside of the major tsunami warning area, a tsunami advisory has been issued for the entire Sea of Japan side of the main island of Honshu and Western Hokkaido island.

Monday's warning is the first time a major tsunami warning has been issued since 2011, when a 9.0-magnitude quake struck Tohoku, causing disastrous and deadly tsunami waves.

Initial tsunami waves had begun striking land on Monday evening, with some reportedly reaching about 1.2 meters along the Noto Peninsula and the surrounding Ishikawa and Niigata prefectures. Tsunami waves were reported as far north as Hokkaido Prefecture.

Kishida appeared briefly before television cameras at his residence, saying the government was collecting information and assessing the situation. His administration set up a disaster response office, he said. He vowed to get an accurate assessment of the situation and said that saving lives was his utmost priority.

"I urge local residents in the affected areas to evacuate," he said. "Others in the region must be vigilant, be on the lookout as further quakes may hit."

The earthquake could be felt in Tokyo, where it sent power lines and light fixtures swaying.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said it had recorded within 90 minutes about 19 additional earthquakes above a magnitude of 1, including the largest one. The largest quake was “very shallow,” the agency said.

Video broadcast on local TV showed collapsed concrete statues and damage to buildings.

Firefighters were battling a blaze in Wajima, a city near the epicenter, the country’s Fire Disaster Management Agency said. Additional fires in Kanazawa and Joetsu, cities on the mainland near the Noto Peninsula, were extinguished, the agency said.

Bullet trains in the region were suspended. Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways reportedly cancelled flights to and from the region. Hospitals in the region were reporting power outages, perhaps complicating treatment of the injured.

No abnormalities in regional power reactors have been reported. Hokuriku Electric Power Company, which runs a nuclear power plant in Shika, in Ishikawa Prefecture, said in a press release that it was checking the status of its equipment.

Waves up to a meter were possible in North Korea and Russia, according to the U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center.

"Don't let your guard down, move away from the coast," was the continuing message from Japanese authorities as night fell.

"Things can turn catastrophic in an instant," authorities said. "The first wave may not be the largest."

Due notice was given to them to leave that complex before demolitions commenced.
