This problem did not start today and I have tears in my eyes as Nigerians are applauding this as the best decision this government has taken this year!
It will cost you more money to move your goods from Lagos ports to the SouthEast than it would cost you to bring same goods from Netherlands to Lagos. Nigerians hate themselves so much. yes you are very correct Nigerians hate themselves so much, they are always very eager to support any evil against them and they will even justify it,be it bad leaders or bad policies I wonder why they are like that |

We are lucky Dangote or any powerful Northerner is not in the busines of automobile assembly, Nigeria would have banned vehicle imports totally and forced us to use whatever death machine they fabricate. Na you get the gist,it is never in the overall interest of the country, same way he did with foreign exchange, which is also an area they dominate, they will now disguise it as national interest and our southern mumu and their intellectuals, will now look for how to justify if May God open the southern mumu eye like he has opened yours , for them to know that the country belongs to all of us and we must partake equally |

NkemChukwudi: Absolute hogwash! Nonsense and senseless anti-Buhari narrative (from the East I bet!)
Anybody who says Babangida came to the rescue is either MAD or an irredeemable ignoramus.
You term them "essential commodities" yet you cannot (to this day) produce them? The Shagari regime had already stolen all the available dollars so what exactly did the expect the Buhari regime to pay for the imports? The banks in Europe refused to accept letter of credit from the Nigerian central bank yet some Nigerian fools expect the Buhari regime to continue with food importation without money.
Oga please go and revise your history very well. Buhari did not introduce hunger to Nigeria, it is the Nigerian people that refuse to go back to the farm to grow enough food to cater for the population. At least 50% of the people in Lagos, Abuja and other major cities should be on the farm instead of wasting away in Lagos hungry, unemployed, poor and making babies.
Keep blaming Buhari...... Nobody is blaming buhari just pointing out the fact that it is in his nature to bring hardship on his citizens whenever he is in power including Huma right abuses and censoring of the media, these are consistent with him Why don't you ask your self how others were able to avoid some of these It is in their style Did those queues not disappear under babangida You are blaming the people, did your buhari provide the right leadership to inspire people to unleash their creativity and do all those you are talking about all you guys knows is to abuse and call people names |

CarlsJaz567: While am not holding brief for Buhari, nor am I an ardent supporter, yet I need to correct your historical narration because I was old enough at the time to recount what really happened.
The queue for essential commodities at the time was not especially due to Buhari's policies inflicting hunger on the people, but the people were already impoverished under Shagari and it was no longer easy or cheap to purchase food items like milk, vegetable oil, sugar, rice etc. Buhari, therefore, ordered that provision of these food items, most of which were hoarded in warehouses, should be distributed to the people. He essentially continued in Shagari's policies of austerity measures, reducing importation of food items etc and refused to devalue the Naira. He, however, sought to make up for the hardship the people were facing by distributing food to people who otherwise wouldn't have had access to it. it was his policies aggravated the situation and he did not distribute anything to anybody,he just use his WAI to ensure people queue orderly for the products The truth is that he can never change he is as he was over 30years .if it is not shagari causing problems for him,it is Jonathan But the fact speaks for itself |

Look at how people are now queing to migrate out of this shithole And our RUGA president is busy disgracing his ancestors in UNGA Very soon Canada's economy will become stronger all thanks to the input of Nigerian professionals. my brother am just amazed at how history is repeating itself with this buhari, during his reign as a military head of state this same scenario played out people were also leaving in droves then, even hunger too was pervasive then as it is now, people were queuing to get milk, rice, sugar and other necessities which were termed essential commodities then Before babangida came to the rescue You can now imagine people routing for the same person to come and re enact same scenario are people not crazy or cursed |

PoliticalWitch: Keep in mind that our refineries, even at full capacity cannot meet domestic need.(The last one was built 33 years ago).
Keep in mind that the whole subsidy thing too isn't allowing new investors build new refinereis....(Doangote is building his reifiery via loans. And fuel subsidy means he would be operating at a loss).
Keep in mind we need 3 or 4 new big refineries at $10bn each (our reserve is $44bn)....all of which HAVE to operate at a profit....which subsidy won't ;let them operate at....
That's why we cannot stop importation. There would be fuel scarcity enmasse.
And, yes, GSM correlates. Because government did not bring in subsides and price controls for the GSM companies...they poured in investment that built our GSM infrastruccture...and prices for SIM went down from N10000 a sin in 2003 TO N1000 or less today. All without government spending any money. fuel is a social commodity, GSM is not a necessity ,both can't be treated same way For petroleum products the country has a comparative advantage, which the citizens should benefit The cost on subsidy are made of cost of transportation, insurance, clearing, demourage, cost of refining plus profit, which will be eliminated if the product is refined in Nigeria, the country also gain in terms of job for its youths The current practice is being penny wise pound foolish This is fuel by greed and corruption The amount wasted on subsidy is enough to built refineries that will meet our needs and those in the West African sub region, from which foreign exchange can be earned and will also end smuggling of petroleum products across our borders, which is simply business responding to gaps |

PoliticalWitch: Well, if subsidy is removed, there would be some hardship...but then all those people who have been licensed to build refinereis would build them, plus foreign and local investment would flow in
This would lead to improved production, which means lower prices. Need I say that there is the added benefit of more jobs.
We tried this for GSM....we allowed the GSM companies to come in and set their prices. Because there were no price controls, investment flowed in. (And the GSM companies built all the infrastruicture themselves...government did not build anything) This is a false narrative that they have been trying to push unfortunately because they ve been at for some time people have started taking it as the truth The issue of subsidy is a form of punishment from a wicked government stop importation and subsidy will stop How is it convenient to be throwing away trillion annually instead of investing same in refineries, which will end subsidy and lower prices and even create massive jobs My brother the issue of subsidy can never be justified to a knowledgeable object person GSM and petrol don't have anything common |

PoliticalWitch: That's the main thing...then there is the forgery.
Plus there is a solution to this issue....remove fuel subsidy. That dries up the money for people like Abubakar Peters...and forces them to work for their money.
In fairness to the evil crook....he is importing fuel at a loss under the subsidy regime. Landing costs is N200 and above, then he has to sell the fuel to marketers at below N145....and all government pays him is the difference. So he scams government by making subsidy claims for fuel not imported...and then makes a profit.
Some guys import fuel, then smuggle it to countries like Benin and Niger Republic where they sell fuel at above N300...and make their profit that way.
Remove fuel subsidy...sure we would be paying crooks like these high money for improting fuel. But the foreign and local investment that would flow in to build new refienreis, and new support strutrctures will soon bring increased production, reduced prices, and put people like Mr Peters in the positon of either adapting or getting out of buisness since there is no subsidy money to claim again. You are advocating more hardship for the already improvished Nigerians The only solution is for the government to find a of refining our petrol here how ever they do it It is the job of government to do that don't shift it to the masses in form of subsidy removal, subsidy is caused by importation we don't have business Importing petroleum products a commodity we have comparative advantage of |
