You can apply for a sowp from inside Canada if you're on a visit visa. That's called "flag poling". You can research more on this.

I think flagpoling is different. Flagpoling is applying at the border and it is instant. But yes you can apply for a SOWP with a VV. It use to have a lesser processing period. Check up inland SOWP application. It is very possible. They extended it to 2023. It started because of covid.

* Is it not prohibited for a sponsored student to bring her husband?
* her mom is a citizen in the US, is she classified as a third party sponsor? What's d possible problem if any.
* do I need proof of fund also for the SPOUSE OPEN WORK PERMIT while shes there as a student.

Her mom can sponsor her and no it is not a third party sponsor (parents and spouse aren't third party sponsorship). However, it's best the spouse has some funds in his account and show he is capable of financially caring for himself and the kids while the wife is away. She can apply for you as a spouse, I don't think there is any issue because she was sponsored by her mom.

When you eventually wants to apply for work permit, yes you need to have funds in your account.

Hi Chinedu,
You can open a new account for your wife and apply for her or you can apply through your own gckey. After filling the information you will see a space to upload the invitation letter else you merge it with the other documents and upload in optional documents section. Scroll back few pages back you will see the list of documents you will need.

I'd suggest you apply for Spousal open work permit because in the recent times we haven't seen any approval for visit visa, however many persons here got work permit for spouse approved. For the processing time, you can check the ircc site, however from the recent trend, approval comes in average 3/4months now. But if you decide to apply for the visit visa on the new portal, they said 12weeks processing time. But the refusal rate is high.

The spouse can apply if he is NOC 0, A or B. The initial post I answered was in a case the person is not working on NOC 0, A or B, like someone working in NOC C, i had suggested the person should first come and then find a another job with NOC 0, A or B. But it becomes tricky and hard if it a closed work permit, changing to NOC 0, A or B so that he can apply for SOWP for the wife.

I’ve perused the thread and I know NOC matters when processing SOWP, I fall under NOC C and according to everything I have read here I can’t apply for an open work permit for my wife.

What permit are you on? Student permit or work permit?

If you are on work permit or PGWP yes, you must be on NOC 0, A or B, but if you are on study permit, then your NOC doesn't matter.

Modified: just noticed you mentioned going for work, so I am assuming it's work permit. Yes you must be on NOC 0,A or B. So when you get inside Canada get a job on the NOC 0,A or B then apply for your family. By the way, are you on a closed work permit or open work permit this may be tricky if you are on closed work permit.

Yes, if the spouse (main applicant) is on work permit or post graduate work permit. But of the spouse is on student permit, it doesn't matter.

You don't need to cancel. They are different categories. Go ahead and apply for SOWP. At best, if your eligibility review has not started, you can write them to withdraw the
VV application.

PPR Alert! My sister submitted SOWP for her husband and visiting visa for her 3 children. The last one got his PPR yesterday, 2 other children were refused earlier last month on purpose of visit probably because their application for visit visa was for less than 6 months category meanwhile the former was for more than 6 months he got Medical request the same day his sisters were denied.

However, her husband is still waiting for his passport request he got medical passed and biometric validation 3 weeks ago. I hope he gets it next week, I don't know why the delay.

For the kids that were refused, how old are they? Are you sure they don't need study permit not a visit visa?

I wanted them to be a strong tie in nigeria so the plan was to get my permit and have them submit theirs immediately i get mine permit approved.

My question now is at what point do i put in their application?

After you get your own study permit approved. Alternatively, you can decide to get to Canada first and then submit their application. Totally depends on you, but be sure your documentations are in order.

You don't necessarily need to get the kids admission letter. Upload the parent's (main applicant) admission letter.

Oh really? Then that's new. What I know is that if you do biometrics in Lagos and you are sending your passport to Lagos for stamping, then you do not need to pay the transmission fee. The same goes with Abuja. But if you are sending your passport to Abuja while your biometrics was done in Lagos you need to pay and vice versa.

I hope you submitted your biometrics slip anyways.

Two ghost update so far, last upper week and last week....this alone can give someone bp, medical isn't updated since April that I applied, just showing"we are reviewing your medical result" application review started 02 august, even the visit visa I applied with my kids may, only the kids medicals were updated July and that was it...my medical was also stating same thing in the visit visa, if not that I feel very healthy and I have done personal check ups, this people would have killed me with thinking. I have sent webform enquiring, pleading and requesting....but from today henceforth am done, when they are ready they would reach out.......if no be Nigeria wey dey fall person hand sef....the rest is with God sha, wishing everyone waiting all the best.

Ghost update means they are working on your file. Hang in there, I know it is not easy because I also applied April 28th. I used email to finish them, I don't know if it works for or against sha. Summary of the story is that my kids application came in July ending and probably they punished me for sending them emails upon emails by delaying my husband's own till August 19th.

Depends on the kids age. Less than 5, apply for visitor visa, above 5 apply for study permit.

Hello what do you mean by temporary visa? Temporary visa are study permit, visitor visa, work permit. And yes all of them needs you to sign the consent letter while submitting your Passport for stamping. Please Google consent form vfs global and download the form directly. I don't know why the link isn't working here, sorry about it.

You can send everything in one package but like @folla said you need to put each childs document in a smaller envelop and pay each childs transmission fee. This is becos you can pay same dhl fees for the whole package to and fro.

Hello, congratulations on your kids approval. You are not sending it as a single package, rather you are sending it as different packages and paying transmission fee separately and couriering it as different packages. I hope this helps.

I'm not sure London is responding to emails.. We are passed the processing time and nothing has been done, no medical passed and no eligibility review has started.

Is your file in London? Also if you have other email addresses send to them too. Send to them individually do not copy other addresses in one email.

Don't even bother about the no update, I think sometimes they just get an application and update everything at once. Using our application as a case study: they just updated my kids medical and send their PPR on the same day, then updated my husband's medical and sent BVL the next day. So they may be working on your application without updating it. Again if your application has passed the processing time, you should keep sending mails to them, you can also do MP inquiry.

PPR just dropped now. I sent a webform to London, Lagos, and Nairobi.
I also sent email to all their accounts.

After about 2hrs, Nairobi replied that they have sent a correspondence and it was a PPR.

Abeg, who knows the estimated return time to get passport back from Lagos and what is the steps please?

Congratulations. I think the emailing works. When I stamped my kids passport, it took about 9 days before it got back to us, submitted in Lagos.

We tracked and it showed it has been delivered, yet no response or email communications from vfs. We have emailed vfs and they said it is not ready for collection. But unlike them no email at all.
