Currently at a point of dropping this PhD in Canada. Applied for SOWP since Oct nothing nothing. Applied for VV twice they got rejected. Really tired and seems Canada is trying to frustrate young married people from Nigeria.

Order your GCms notes to see any update on the SOWP. I am also doing PhD and it is frustrating to leave my kids behind as a mother. Only for our VV application to be rejected because of ties to Canada. Get your gcms notes and see the state of your application. You can also call the MP of your area.

This refusal reason is nothing but a deliberate arbitrariness of the VO. You can remind them of this Federal Court decision:

In the case of Carlson TACHOT MEnkem Afuah versus the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, 2021 FC 596). Besides, the decision of the officer to refuse my family the visa based on their tie to me in Canada is at variance with the Federal Court decision in Girn v Canada (Citizenship and Immigration), 2015 FC 1222 at paragraph 32; Tavakoli Dinani v Canada (Citizenship and Immigration), 2012 FC 1063 at paragraph 27; Demyati, above, at paragraph 11), where the court ruled that ‘’ the Officer should not have drawn negative inferences from the Applicant’s family ties in Canada. If anything, the Officer should have considered the financial support the Applicant’s family provides as a positive factor. At the very least, the Officer should have justified his/her reasoning: it is unreasonable to infer that Applicant will remain in the country illegally simply because he has strong family ties in Canada.

Please how did you solve this. My family's visa was refused last month based on this. After a whooping one month wait for GCms notes it came out with : client has a strong ties in Canada, like seriously, I have already told you my wife is in Canada and I want to visit her. It was so annoying. How did you solve that? We had submitted all the hometies to Nigeria we can think of.

PPR SOWP for spouse + VV for Child - April 8th

I two kids within a month, so I thought it was going to easy like that. I did not bother applying immediately. I already had it in mind that I will apply by December and they will join my in January or February, then by October the story started changing. People were now saying 5 months, 6 months. The Indians friends I have were saying 14 months. I just couldn't believe it. I rushed and put things together and applied in November.

It's your choice to send webform or not. Especially if it has passed the stated 30business days they stated. (I am assuming you apply through the new IRCC portal). I have not read anywhere that stated yoh must send webform before they attend to you. Infact they have stated they won't answer you if your application is still within the standard processing time.

Gcms notes is $5 if your spouse is in Canada or you have a friend that can apply for you, it can be more if you are applying through a 3rd party site.

You need the GCMS notes to see exactly why your application was refused and then write a detailed letter of explanation. Attaching relevant documents to counter the VOs refusal reasons. In my opinion, you need your SOP and then your letter of explanation. I think you can as well have one, letter of explanation but this time, concentrate more on the refusal sections and explaining in details with enough proof.

Ultimately, your GCms note will be insightful on helping you to know where you should concentrate more and what documents to attach.

Do I address only the issues raise or do a complete LOE with emphasies on the issues raised?
Do I have two LOEs..one for the general explantion and the other specifically to address the reason for refusal?

You mean you have reapplied without the GCMS notes? I am sure you had used the other GCms note to write a letter of explanation.

You are right. I can't kill myself. The refusal came in a day after I submitted the rebuttal documents. I am very certain it was not looked at, whoever was at the end of the line just wanted to get it over with.

I just received my long awaited PPR. VV for the spouse of an international student. I learnt a lot from this forum and it is very imperative I give back.

My first application was submitted June 2021
Resubmitted a new application via the new portal January 9 2022.
Refusal letter February 9 2022 (Refused Based on Family ties)
I ordered GCMS notes same day.
Reapplied February 22 2022
PPR April 7 2022


A refusal letter hits differently, I was devastated because I thought I had a strong and convincing application. It took me about 2 weeks to get myself to write a new LOE and SOP.

A sweetheart on this platform @mzjanez01 reached out to me and advised I reapply without the notes. She was kind to share how her husband tackled his refusal reasons as well. Jane, you are far too kind oh! Thanks for all the prayers and kind words.

Should be about 1month.

Are you sure he hasn't confused SOWP for international students to normal open work permit for immigrants/skilled worker? From what I read, international students spouse's can be from any profession, but you must be on NOC B jobs to apply for SOWP for skilled workers on open work permit.

I mean, you shouldn't refuse an international students spouse's work permit because he is not into certain professions. It simply doesn't make sense.

Alright its possible. but that was the first information the MPs special assistant gave me when i informed him of applying for VV for my spouse and kids. He was even the one that also told me that SOWP approval is based on essential profession that is profession in need.

Hello, sorry about this. I don't think that travel to African country counts o on travel history. It's majorly western world. However anything you think you can do to improve your app is fine. My husband's app was refused for the same exact reasons. If you can apply for gcms notes to see exactly why it was refused, it will be fine. I think your documentations are in order if you had explained all these too in the SOP.

For hometies, my proof of emplyment(letter from HR for vactation, payslip, pension account were presented), landed property, car document, family members (eight siblings, aged mother and father inlaw)

No travel History. I am thinking of travelling to few western african countries to get that corrected.
I submitted on 22nd of February, 2022.
I still have sowp application undecided.

Well in my case too for my husband's VV, I had also presented enough hometies aged parents, 5 siblings and their families, employment letter, leave letter for 21work days, landed property. My husband's VV was still refused on hometies and travel history. The hometies was well explained too in addition. Still waiting for the GCMS notes. We have not applied for SOWP. So I guess you can't really say it's because he has a SOWP in process already.

Sorry about the news to start with. Basically like I said some few weeks back the VO already has a notion that you wont want to come back since you have an active SOWP application and with this flagpolling of a thing now most VV dont eventually come back. Now you need a more convincing hometie which for now I cant really place my hands on cos you have really tried with the home ties u mentioned above. This is the senerio that likely happens when ome first declears SOWP and later switch to VV. You must give the visa officer a more convincing reason to visit also when u can actually wait and get sowp to stay as long as ur spouse stays, aside this they know that once you visit you have a 90 percent tendency not to keep to the terms and condition of return thereby looking for other means to stay and eventually outstaying ur TRV or changing it with flagpolling like i mentioned earlier.
This was basically why i was also avoiding applying for a VV for my spouse and kids since my spouse already has sowp but after waiting for 9months I had to proceed. I PRAY GOD HELP US ALL. IT IS EMOTIONALLY DRAINING.

I'd suggest you do not withdraw the SOWP that is in progress already. However, you can reapply for VV for all of them. Their previous VV will be withdrawn. All the best!

But I will suggest you apply for another GCms note so that you won't have to waste time to reapply because you would have known the full details Incase it comes out negative. Congratulations. My husband's and kids VV was refused last week on family ties and travel history. We submitted for my husband and 2kids on January 21.

For family ties we had explained he is the last and very close to his parents. His aged parents are still very much alive and his 5 siblings too were mentioned. Submitted landed properties too. Employment Letter and leave letter, still it was refused. Anyways we have applied for GCms notes to know exactly what he meant by family ties.

Rejection reasons were: Purpose of visit, family ties to Canada and home country, Travel history. For family ties, I addressed it with assets and his aged father. I stated how he is saddled with the responsibility of taking care of his aged father who is 80 both emotionally and financially.... a lot went into this part I won't lie. Purpose of visit, was to bring my younger son to me and also be able to visit me during his vacation especially during important moments in our lives such as wedding anniversary, birthdays and graduation and to also assist settle my son in with me this period. I didn't do so much with the travel history part, I just stated that he is a family oriented person and has focused on building his own family and taking care of his aged parents all this years.. couple with his own career pursuit so this hasn't given him time to plan a vacation abroad but he is doing it now because it has become necessary to support his wife's dream. With a 7page LOE God came through. He will come through for you ijn. I know how you feel but just hang in there.

For your second question, Passports are not stamped in Nairobi, they are only responsible for reviewing the Eligibility of applicants and also making final decisions..... Its stamped in the local Visa office of the country of the applicant, which is either Lagos or Abuja in our case...

The only peeps permitted to create a group are peeps going to the same school in Canada so they can connect, any other reason is not a reason to create a whatsapp group..

This is a major reason why we have not been getting approval testimonies in this thread of recent, simply because people like you share approval testimony in the whatsapp group thereby gradually killing this thread of Vital information and Timelines... This thread is helping everyone here including newbies and also the gurus,I may be very knowledgeable but at the same time I am still learning here from many peeps on the recent happenings and updates as regards this Canada study application process...

Yes as a fully vaccinated, you still need to show proof that you have planned for quarantine in the event the border officer says you should. Hope you have verified that your Vaccination is promptly registered and all information correct! As for your question, you don't need a particular hotel to quarantine, they have lifted that restrictions, Airbnb will do, you can check their booking policy

Hello I just did my Medicals today at IOM as requested by IRCC , the official told me it would take 3 working days to send it to Canada ,please what are the next steps after this, it’s a student visa .

You don't need to do anything else. Just relax and cross your legs and wait for your ppr. Also while relaxing intensify your prayers and stay positive. IOM will send your medical results to IRCC, it may take them a while to review it but they will eventually and then update it to pass... And then boom PPR

Hi people, I had my medicals done today after it was requested for, I was given an information sheet should I raise a web form for it despite that the status has “Incomplete” on it or I should just wait for them upload on IRCC and let IRCC do the needful?

The two choices are yours to decide! You can wait it out, till when the hospital sends to IRCC and they will update your application. Alternatively, you can send the e-medical slip the hospital gave you through webform. In any case, it may still take a while for IRCC to update it in your portal since you just did the medicals today. No need to panic. Las Las it will be updated!
