Guys! Finally the remaining part of the puzzle was solved this morning after more than 28 emails and webforms back to back. Remember my kids got PPR on 28 June 2022 while my spouse got medical request. The medicals was done July 14th at IOM and the stamped passports of the kids was gotten back from abuja VSF of July 15th. Iom sent the result for medical on July 21st and IRCC uploaded that same day. Then another wait began and i started sending emails and webforms also at some point contacted my mp again. Yesterday morning we got BVL but this morning around 3.20am EDT she go the PPR. At last exactly 1year and 7days becos the application was submitted 22nd July 2021.
It has ended in praises. While waiting for her PPR i already booked airfrance for september just to buy time and also pay less flight fees even at that i paid pass 3k CAD

Thank you for the answers. But please in the checklist for the kids application for study permit, They are ask to upload proof of acceptance. What type of document is to be uploaded? And also for the 3years what is to be selected is it visit tourism OR visit other types for 3yrs?.

Sorry for asking did you put landed documents in your home ties that was rejected because I have someone that was rejected in October 2021 reason home ties , so this time he attached landed property ties , letter of leave and 10m plus pics of aged parents and he got approval

The sowp can be made either in the principal applicants gckey or a new gckey can be created. Whichever suits you better. I don't see any advance of one over the other.

The study permit for kids is similar but not exactly the same. For example you will not need an admission letter from a school before you apply.

One application will not cover for all when you apply for the sowp, there is a prompt asking you if you want to add another application and when you click yes you can start adding your kids detail, like that like that. And at the end, the application fee for the whole application will be calculated at once. So in that sense, it is different applications under one application.

In the case ,I eventually apply for sowp and my spouse still wants to return to Nigeria..what reasons can I give? Won't it be contradictory that I applied for sowp and spouse wants to return? Cos like you wrote sowp is for spouse to work while their partner studies.

Cos the honest truth is that he has to return,there is a lot of things he's doing here..but of course, he will eventually join us permanently or temporarily long stay..but this initial time he will return..I just need him as an escorts esp cos I will be travelling in winter and with kids..

Once they approve his Visa, I don't think it matters. He can travel and come back whenever he wants. There is no rule mandating him to stay back in Canada. Especially as there is intention of him joining you much later. .....and no it is not contradictory that he needs the Visa to provide you support while you school.

By the way, do you mean you and your kids has gotten a Visa already?

Hi, yes your spouse needs to do medical for SOWP. However if you want a short stay visa it should be VV you will need to apply for and he does not need medical if the stay will be less than 6months. Honestly, I really don't know how to show your spouse will return because in my VV application that was refused we showed everything like one month leave letter from work and all, aged parents to care for yet it was refused. I learned the new portal uses AI (Chinook or whatever they call it), hence the high refusal rate.

I don't know your reason for wanting your spouse to return however, when applying for sowp, it's best to say he will come to work to support you while you school, whatever he decides to do after they grant him his sowp is totally up to him.

For forms, when you apply for work permit as spouse of international student and fill your information, it will give you the compulsory documents you need to submit, another however is that most time the mandatory forms are barely enough. So you need to merge the other documents as a pdf and submit in the optional documents section.

Finally, I suggest you apply for SOWP in the gckey even when you are still here, who knows he may get it and who also knows things may change in the future and he decides to work and not leave Canada.

Before sweetjj responds let me just say this the visa type for ur kids depends on their ages. If ur kids are less than 4yrs u can apply for vv but for those above 5years that can go to elementry school and above u can apply for a study permit. So let me ask what are their ages?

Hello, the processing time for sowp from Nigeria is 57weeks, however recent trends shows that it takes about 3-6months (approximately 12- 24 weeks) especially for this 2022 applications. Stay positive!

The new portal is for VV and study permit only. You can only apply for work permit through the gckey which is the old portal. I stand to be corrected!

It's PPR for my 2 kids VV o but my husband's SOWP not yet out.

Applied for VV for my hubby and kids in January, refused on 8th of March. Applied for VV for my kids and SOWP for hubby on April 28th, approved today 26th of July.

I really don't think you should talk about infertility. Reason for your spouse to join you can be to provide emotional support so you can concentrate on your studies

Well I don't know about you, but I feel it's better it is delayed and everyone gets PPR at once than to wait and apply for the baby's own and start waiting all over again. Or are you ready to travel without the baby? Shebi you will still wait and process the baby's own? In my humble opinion, it's better now than later, so all the file will be considered at once!

Secondly,we stated in the application that my wife is pregnant,now my wife gave birth last week,should we send a webform to notify ircc or wait till we get ppr then apply for baby's own separately .

I'd suggest you relax. The medical will be updated for your wife's application too. Congratulations for the birth of your new baby. I'd also suggest you do not wait. Send a webform attach a letter of explanation, birth certificate and if possible an updated statement of account to show you have enough funds for the new addition, get a passport for the baby and add his/her application. Getting a medical request is a positive sign. Congratulations in advance.

Hi Akanle2, I don't know if it is required. However I think you can get your husband to give you a simple letter that reads something like:

After his address
To whom it may concern,

Consent letter
I, (husband's name) with passport number (....) write to give my consent for my wife (wife name) with passport number (......) to travel with our child/ren (child's name), Date of birth (....), passport number to Canada. This travel is to reunite my family to me since I am an international student living here in Canada at (....).

Please kindly grant them all necessary assistance.

I am not sure if it will be a red flag. But I'd suggest the primary applicant have some funds in his/her account too. Especially if you have claimed they are employed in Nigeria, there should be some funds in his/her name to support such claims.

I would suggest 10kCAd for spouse and 4k additional for additional family member. But the more money the better

Do you mean study permit for the primary applicant? Or study permit for kids?

You can scan though. But check your bank’s app, sometimes it is there and easy to get the MB’s without going to the bank, this I know for sure with Zenith Bank. I am guessing other banks will have something similar.

If kids are US citizens, you don’t need to apply for them. I think they will get a visitors record or so at the border.

2 visitors visa refusal
1st was submitted on 22nd November and refused on 30th December

2nd was on 5th January and refused on 20th February

SOWP submitted on 22nd February 2022,
-Travelled to Dubai on 4th of April 2022 for vacation (my wife came from Canada to meet me there in Dubai) and I returned to Nigeria on 22nd of April and on 1st of May I sent my new travel record via email to kenya, London and lagos IRCC offices with pictures with my wife.I also submitted it as webform. approval was received today, May 5th- 72days!!!. Pure miracle


I should add that I requested for reconsideration of his visitor's visa that was refused in December and I did not hear from them until today, they sent a second rejection for the visit visa followed by an approval for the open work permit

If that is the only ties you have, you should just keep praying. I hope you submitted info on parents and siblings, landed property, pension account. Because I submitted all of these and my application was still refused. It's just sad! Applications are different, though, All the best!

This refusal reason is nothing but a deliberate arbitrariness of the VO. You can remind them of this Federal Court decision:

In the case of Carlson TACHOT MEnkem Afuah versus the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, 2021 FC 596). Besides, the decision of the officer to refuse my family the visa based on their tie to me in Canada is at variance with the Federal Court decision in Girn v Canada (Citizenship and Immigration), 2015 FC 1222 at paragraph 32; Tavakoli Dinani v Canada (Citizenship and Immigration), 2012 FC 1063 at paragraph 27; Demyati, above, at paragraph 11), where the court ruled that ‘’ the Officer should not have drawn negative inferences from the Applicant’s family ties in Canada. If anything, the Officer should have considered the financial support the Applicant’s family provides as a positive factor. At the very least, the Officer should have justified his/her reasoning: it is unreasonable to infer that Applicant will remain in the country illegally simply because he has strong family ties in Canada.

Please who knows about this case. I want to include this in my application. An immigration lawyer said it's ok to, but how do I confirm this case so I don't shoot myself in the leg.

Currently VV is faster on the new portal. In about 1 to 3months you should get a response. Sowp is taking a very long time currently and the processing times as at last week update is 46weeks. By tomorrow an update in the new processing time will be given.

While it is true VV is faster in the new portal, the refusal rate is quite very very high. Right now I'd just suggest SOWP, unless you have children and want to use them as family ties to NIGERIA. I.e, apply without them, if you are applying for yourself and the kids for VV, I am afraid the refusal reason of family ties blah blah blah may be states.

Anyways, it's your choice. And again applications differ and VOs differ too. Our prayers should be among others may the VO not be in a bad mood the day s/he will process my file.

To the VOs the reasons are tangible becos since u have an sowp application on anyone on VV might not want to leave and with this flagpolling of a thing then u stay as long as possible till u become PR although ur stay with the collected work permit through flagpolling also depends on the visa of the spouse so to say. So dey just reject or approve by considering the SOWP immediately. I have only seen an exception of someone on this trend that got both approved

I didn't have a SOWP on. That was why I consider their decision baseless, why are they accusing me of what I haven't done. By the way, I am in one Facebook group and many indian nationals are getting the VV approved while waiting for their ongoing SOWP. Are they now using different yardsticks? It's just unfair

Currently at a point of dropping this PhD in Canada. Applied for SOWP since Oct nothing nothing. Applied for VV twice they got rejected. Really tired and seems Canada is trying to frustrate young married people from Nigeria.

What was the refusal reason? I feel they are just refusing Nigerian VV without any tangible reason.
