Saying that Buhari should drop his islamist/tribalistic tendencies is like asking the Tortoise to drop it's shell when embarking on an outing. Whan are we going to have a president whose tribe is "Nigeria"? |
When there is a transnational force in place, why didn't they quickly alert their Nigerian counterpart at that axis to also help out? I suppose this tactics will help weaken Boko Haram. |
If this was a Federal or State Govt project, one would have been hearing that it cost close to $10 billion. |
The political class seems not to know what to do. What I hear people agitate for is simply fairness in the distribution of resources and the rule of law. All these issues present excellent opportunities for government to address the most important issues befalling this country presently. Nigeria is a multi-ethnic entity hence extreme caution must be taken while addressing issues such as these; from the angle I see things, I would summarize that the various groups are simply expressing fear of one another, and some also feel cheated, hence there are various gaps the government must work on immediately. There are simple actions worth taking at this time that will make sense and restore confidence, they are; 1. Federal government should stop turning their eyes away from unlawful activities of the herds men and make firm pronouncements against them when necessary. This is evident in Benue, Enugu and other killings linked to Fulani herdsmen labelled a mere crises as against the Mambilla massacre branded as genicide by the chief of Army staff; they are all genocide and the wrong body language from such a high military personality should be strongly discouraged. 2. Address every extra judicial killings carried out in form of religious extremism and ensure you prosecute offenders. This is evident in the killings of a Deeper Life pastor's wife in Kano in the name of religious blasphemy in which the police ended up freeing the killers. Government turned their eyes from many other killings of this manner I am yet to see any legitimate religion that supports spilling of blood, even Islam would not support such hence the perpetrators should have been dealt with as murderers instead of hiding under Islam to perpetrate such evil. The Police has repeatedly displayed weakness when it comes to handling sensitive issues of this magnitude which would likely affect the unity of this country as they centre around both tribal and religious lines and hence perpetrators should have been dealt with without compromise. 3.Warn all parties especially Nnamdi Kanu and Arewa youth leaders and give clear boundaries they shouldn't cross; as soon as any of them cross such boundaries, their movement should be restricted, I would suggest house arrest as issues are extremely sensitive right now. For Nnamdi Kanu, as soon as he crosses his lines specified by his bail and other Conditions which should include banning him from all Biafran activities and use of the logo, he should be confined to certain conditions of freedom as he is a serious threat to national security. Any further excesses should get him back to jail. Stop using the law against personal enemies, instead focus on strengthening the law and making it more useful in addressing contemporary issues with the help of necessary arms of government 4. Stop backdoor employment into government agencies such as CBN, etc. as every citizen of this country is an equal stakeholder of the Nigerian project, don't assign consequences of economic hardship to ordinary Nigerians and then allocate opportunities and previleges to friends and associates. It is clear that government's failure to perform its core responsibilities and those mentioned above in the past is the reason why they are afraid of carrying out any disciplinary action against IPOB and Arewa youths, as they are afraid of violence of a magnitude they won't be able to handle. The youths should avoid every activity that would encourage violence and division of Nigeria, according to the Vice President, Wars don't end these days and it is true. Any country that gets into war attracts ISIS, Nigeria is a serious potential and we all know what that means. Let's use our youthfulness, social media and voters card to steer aright. These are my opinions. |
1metre:I think u made sense initially but deviated. Were u typing from a weed farm? |
I gave u links to the points i made, which of them is lies, are they my websites? I would have chosen to get back @ u with even stronger insults but i chose to maintain my point and further explained my opinion to u. However we may not be compatible for further debate, i thought u could be more constructive & lets make sence together even though we are bound not to agree on each other's opinions. Rather seems u want to drag me into saucy political debate through your blackmail that i am APC which i don't have a reason to belong or support. I sincerely wish GEJ success and also wish you the best of expectations from him, however i will not stop speaking against evil politicians irrespective of political party. Lets call it a day |
rudedough: [b]I entertain constructive criticisms but i react to propaganda. The President visited Kenya after their Independence Day celebration. Some business tycoon with other dignitaries traveled with him at their own expense. Alongside the President were;Let me let you know that they are not helping our economy by flying 7 private jets accompanying a serving president to any event. This clearly answers why all of them will never decline from national fraud, this will also not help inflation figures in any sane society. This also tells you why a simple hospital that should not cost up to five hundred million naira will cost billions of naira. Go through the so call business tycoon's profiles and tell me if any of them can be clearly exonerated from our country's problems today. You should know that all these excessive loyalty will rub us of infrastructural development, they are the collaborators of successive governments corruption strides... Apart from Pst. Ayo Orisejafor, (who i will exclude because God frawns at speaking against pastors) Who can you say is clean as in spotless, even though you might always see some of them on white... You may think they will pay their aircraft charges themselves, they are all doing these because they have expectations, at least i am very sure that most of them will influence the 2014 budget implementation negatively. These people you call business tycoons are some of this great country's problems. I don't care if these so called tycoons have private jets or not, what i care for is the good of this country which i reasonably know that they do not have at heart. I am not an APC member or supporter, i am not a politician, i am a Nigerian who is aware that APC and PDP are both crooks that have not a single thing to offer aside from corruption which i know and am convinced is the only factor that can unite these evil men (both PDP and APC chieftains) , i am committed to praying to God to give us a credible NIGERIAN, whose tribe is "NIGERIA", whose religion is also "NIGERIA", who will create the enabling environment that will help wipe away poverty in our land and who will bear the title "THE PRESIDENT". Don't forget that anybody that is rigged in will waste a minimum of four years of our collective destinies regardless of whether the person is PDP or APC I will absolve your insults, perhaps you thought i was an APC supporter, however it will be nice if you concentrate on very strong arguments that can win your opponents in the debate, i bet you that you will enjoy debates of this kind whenever it comes up if you do so. Please lets kick against this nation killers called politicians and join me let us help to build our dear country by saying NO to them. THE ARE OUR COMMON FOES! |
@ jamac, this comparison will help enlighten Nigerians that we have never had a leader in this country, we only have looters and they have a hidden disagreement which you and i are unaware of hence this quarrel, corruption is the only thing that united these thiefs in the first place, when they are no longer okey with their sharing formula, they pick on each other and start fighting but you will never understand until they put AK 47 on your hand. Don't forget they and their family members have a lot of Visas to Jet out when it sets... Let us embibe a tradition of wrestling with them until we get someone who can lead this great nation forward. They are our common foes! |
The Comedy... Africans now mock our president on the issue of visiting them with 7 private jets, this indirectly implies that if our presidents involve in senseless activities, we too are seemingly senseless... http://dailystar.com.ng/2014/01/02/president-visited-country-seven-private-jets-kenyan-minister-mocks-jonathan-presidential-fleet/ |
Jonathan is making available a deposit of N1.6billion for the 11th aircraft http://www.punchng.com/editorial/jonathans-wasteful-spending-on-presidential-aircraft-fleet while the his "good people of Nigeria" are homeless with housing a major challenge in the same country, N1.6billion will build more than 400 units of 3 bedroom flats ( refer to property threads in Nairaland for estimation), economy of scale not factored, do you think it is mere ignorance? OBJ also was said to have purchased a new aircraft for about N1.04billion in 2006, http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-3912.html, there were equally a lot of Nigerians homeless and looking up to these same set of bad eggs for change. thiefs! why are they dragging us into their own issues in the name of national issues, they are both reaping the fruit of their "selfless service" to our country. |
I expect we Nigerians and Nairalanders in particular to use this opportunity to demand accountability from OBJ and GEJ for i know they have not proved to be good Nigerians. If Nigeria was an enterprise they both owned at different times, would they have managed it the way they managed and are still managing it? i expect Nigerians to ask key questions to both parties, that will make them aware that we are no fools... They both have common questions to answer viz; Question: Why has it been that difficult to provide us with basic amenities since OBJ and GEJ administrations? OBJ did 8yrs, GEJ has done around 4yrs (plus the remnant of y'aradua's), we have only had unfullfilled promises instead of boasting of better life via good infrastructures. Both OBJ & GEJ have clearly fooled themselves in terms of infrastructure, 8 years OBJ and GEJ could not fix our power sector but Ota farms and the big Hotel in Bayelsa built by GEJs Mama peace and other of their investments that represents our taxes and proceeds from resources of our father land are running efficiently on diesel generators even though turbines are more efficient and stronger than generators? |
My brother, we just keep chasing the wind... |
Access bank's brand will seriously weaken if the approx. one million Nairalanders go through this especially as the call for front page becomes stronger. Their management should take this very serious with a view to making a turn for the better, else a lot of people will not want to deal with them as most of their staff appear disgruntled already. Disgruntled staff make way for fraud and nobody would want to partner with a potentialy fraudulent bank. Access bank over to you! |
For those who think access bank isn't liable, the truth is that this is a conspiracy between selfish banks/companies and the outsourcing firms, that is why we have lawmakers in place to keep amending laws as the players become even more desperate to kill in the name of profit. If these companies are responsible, their service providers would reflect their values as well. Take a clue from American firms, no matter the industry, they have minimum standard of living for any staff irrespective of the country or location, it is the product of their strong regulation and legislation that even Nigerians that work in their firms here in Nigeria enjoy. However, i still believe in the Nigeria of my dream, though it keeps looking ugly, i know one day Nigerians will be their brothers keepers, and will also enjoy good governance, electricity, road, hospital, education etc. |
I find this hard to believe, i have watched most local TV news stations, tried to spot it on the news bars of most of them but cant find this news, all i can see is the PDP crises in the Senate & Federal House of Reps. For God's sake this is unfair to the people of Nigeria. If not for the social media and this blessed platform (nairaland.com), we would have been ignorant of this. Can our leaders please for once wake up to the reality and resort to finding a honest alternative to what is the reality now before this widening gyre of anarchy spreads further? |
The current state of Aba will surprise any body, the leadership of the state for whatever reasons may have vowed not to develop the town. This is not the first time this city is coming out in this forum, i have traveled that road before, and i challenge any Nairalander to do same let's hear him or her out if the comment would be favorable... |

This program will enable you run a lot of windows programs in linux distros especially the Ubuntu. You can download and install with "apt-get install wine". |
Orji is very correct. |
We should hold on until we hear from GTB, this is a very serious accusation, as a responsible bank, they should be able to produce Madejibo's account logs from the very day he opened it. Again, there must be proof and it must be beyond every doubt before freezing anyone's account. However, if this accusation turns out to be true, then i should be one customer out of GTB. I expect the bank to respond to this as it may have serious impact on their image if followed with silence. |
na like this e go dey be? for how long? |
many potential native doctors dey nairaland, post your consultancy charges pls... as for me Area=L*B Volume=L*B*H The rest=Baba God through my saviour Jesus Christ. |
Nairalanders whats your take on this? FG wants to use Pension Funds for Infrastructure Development. http://www.businessdayonline.com/NG/index.php/news/76-hot-topic/48807-fec-approves-use-of-n3-trillion-pension-fund-for-infrastructure-development |
Fellow Nairalanders, I was invited by MTN for Data and Internet Planning Engineer Role, I applied through their portal two weeks ago, the mail says it's a function specific test. Any MTN Nairalander or whoever has details of the test format please help! |
I was in the process of picking up an offer with a popular lebanese firm, I was asked to resume on the day I told them I can resume, however, I noticed they did not ask me to come for my letter, rather they asked me to give them my word that I will resume on the agreed date, when I requested for the offer letter, the person that called said they will get back to me and that was the last day I heard from them. Fellow Nairalanders, what are your experiences with working with lebanese firms, do they avoid giving offer letters? |
Since our dear country seems not serious on very vital issues, I would strongly advice everyone to beware of Dana air while flying, Indian and Lebanese firms can do anything to get out of issues like this. To Federal Govt., at least they should have ensured that they compensate the victims before they compromise as usual. To Dana Air, I wish you have your 558 staff and FG as the only passengers on your flying coffins, even though the FG Has acted otherwise we at least are aware that life is sacred and will take our decisions to reflect that. Keep flying away alone as your advert jingle states. |
You can also try any towing van for sale |
I'll shout "Boko haram, stoooooooooooooop" |
@Captainajama, why would people use multiple profiles, is it to gain advantage over others? I actually went back to the profiles and discovered they are mostly new and that the proponents were registered around same period, it actually looked suspicious. Sincerely the thread was initially emphasizing on abuses rather than logically layed out and facts which placed a pointer on desperation. However, i'm happy we are in harmony that at least we should debate based on logic, fact and sound ideas rather than creating word conflict. I for one would like to see and say it the way you guys have seen and said it, unfortunately i haven't been able to do so, many others have not seen it also, maybe we may need to reach a compromise on whether we should adopt your claims as a syllabus for power reforms instead of having it to mean that it is working already. |
jmslimx, i totally agree with you, these people saying all these things that are not true use all desperate strategies to propagate their facts, most of them are just new in NL, they try as much as they can to intimidate their opponents with abusive strategies instead of focusing logically on driving home their points, though with the exception of a few of them however who have really been impressive despite speaking for Jonathan's Power Reform,. The force at which they want to prove that what is not working almost after most of them just signed up in NL including the poster remains marvelous, however, i know they are up to a mission, what the mission is remains what time will tell, however they should remember that the conscience is an open wound that only truth can heal, and also they will be disappointed if they think they can force it down our throats by mere bullying. Let them keep it up, but should remember that they will reap adequate utilization of darkness, i pass my neighbor generator usage and constant servicing, and the accompanying environmental/noise pollution. They should also be aware that a farmer that plants two tubers of yam and lies that he planted ten tubers will harvest two tubers of yam and eight tubers of lies certainly. |
If pro Jonathan Power Reform activists on this thread say that power has improved across the nation, i don't think it is correct, at least i am still in Naija presently, if they say that the anticipated outcome of the reform as fronted by the media and the rest is a precursor that the future will be bright, then let that be a different subject matter. Remember that some guys here in NL are claiming that power supply has improved; this i refuse to agree totally. We are still helpless as regards power in this country, let's possibly change topic to the analysis of the future so that they can been seen as being correct, maybe we may even debate whether it is on track at all, not actually that it is working ( there is power) as seen on the topic of discussion. Meanwhile all these projects we hear today in NDPHC started during OBJ, not even Jonathan, i know they are the same projects that Elumelu presided over in the house of reps. Same Bart Nnaji was there in the past as Special Adviser in the power game, same James Olotu and other ED's have been in NDPHC all these while designing power plants without possible nearby energy source, only to start shouting gas supply! gas supply! when they know they would be held accountable for dividends of all these wastes exactly at this very time, only to want to become a Genuis over night via the media. If they were intelligent in the first place, they would have started the gas pipeline project side by side with the plants, they are only trying to use social Engineering on the Citizenry. They emphasize the gas issue as though the same people only came during this Jonathan's regime. Maybe they are likely to successfully provide power in future but certainly not that there is better supply as we speak now, at least i am a user of same power and i really feel it. |
dedeike: @ switney, Much as I would like to join issues with you on your last post but I must quickly commend you for offering the first intellectual opposition to Bart Nnaji's activities. Since this debate started, all we have been seing from those dissatisfied with our views are shallow arguments and vituperations devoid of substance. You even posted a useful link in support of your argument that govt appears insincere about the megawatts generated. I appreciate that. We must endeavour to be factual and constructive in criticising or praising the activities of those entrusted with the mandate to govern us. That way I believe we will make progress. However, I will make bold to respond to all the issues you raised one by one. It is never in doubt that Obj generateed 4000 megawatts. Yes he did. But just like you rightly observed, this 4000 megawatts could not be felt due to age long problems of adequacy of gas, transmission and distribution problems. In 2005' obj signed into law the power reforms act which was to offer the foundation for the first target you mentioned viz; ," expeditiously implement the electric power sector reform programme" . If you read Barth's interview thoroughly, you would appreciate that he credited his reform programme to the power reforms Act 2005 by Obj. That legislation offers the foundation upon which the present reform programmes are erected. So there's no falsehood to it. Secondly, the next target was to generate 10,000 megawatts by 2007 "by existing plants, new host generations and reasonably priced independent power plants" . This is where the NIPP initiative came in. Obj sought to set up over 9 independent power plants I.e Geregu, Allaoji, Afam, Papalanto etc due to its capital intensive nature, obj could not finish before he left office in 2007. Surprisingly, Yarafua came in and abandoned the NIPP projects. The Elumelu probe panel came up and rubbished the projects with allegations of corruption in the management of NIPP. So NIPP was put on hold without any alternative plans on generation. The end result was that our generation capacity dtropped again. We now started having barely 1500 megawatts. When Gej came in, he saw the need to implement the power reforms act hence the revival of the NIPP projects. He launched a power reforms roadmap anchored on the NiPP and the full privatization of PHCN. In less than one year, GEJ's govt has been able to complete the Mambilla and Zungeru power stations bringing back the megawatts to over 4000. In a bid to address the problems associated with transmission, govt has also begun the repair of transmission lines covering over 6000 km and you know this is not a cup of tea. For distribution, they decided to privatize the 11 distribution companies and have signed bulk trader purchase agreement with them with world bank guarantees. Thirdly, the next target you highlighted is "explore alternative energy sources ...." this the govt has achieved by building those power stations which are thermal. They seek to take advantage of our huge gas reserves but unfortunately, this has created another major challenge. Most of the IOC's are skeptical to invest heavily in gas in a market where there's no much demand for commercial gas. That notwithstanding, the NGC which is the gas arm of NNPC is seriously constrained by billions owed it by PHCN. On the other hand, PHCN attributes its inability to discharge its indebtedness to low revenue generation, poor metering, and low tariffs. This brings me to the fourth target as highlighted in your post. Fourthy, the next target reads viz" renew attention to the question of electricity tariffs" it is pursuant to the realization of this objective that govt recently reviewed eelectricity tariffs on June 1. The need to have a cost reflective tariff is long overdue and will play a key role in actualising the 5th target which is " Deregulate the power sector to allow increased private sector participation." Fifthly,, the increased tariffs and eventual privatization of PHCN will now facilitate the much needed private sector investments in our power sector. Thankfully, General Electric co and others have already come in to participate. Gej is really working. What i am yet to ascertain is the reason behind their media works. Sincerely if i am this Govt., i would rather concentrate on providing solution to the problem silently, this is an issue successive administrations have failed over and over, therefore, it is a very sensitive issue. I had expected Prof. Nnaji and his team to concentrate and get us out of this mess, then give us success story. Nigerians are actually tired of every kind of promise and jingle both in the media and wherever, we understand that all our developmental indicators are pointing towards power sector infrastructure. Let our leadership not jeopardise this in the name of politics, i still prefer they keep silent and deliver rather than going to display their media strenght that has not direct value added to the issue at hand and thereafter failing. Developmental indices have shown a dangerous dip even when compared from their already sorry past. Though it's very visible that they are not concentrating on their anticipated success, i still wish to say "May they succeed! |
I think we can actually express our opinions without insulting each other. I've really not seen what calling each other fools or bastards add to this interesting subject. I don't think it is bad to take any position as everyone is indebted to his or her opinion. Whether we like it or not, it is a theme worth criticising in both ways. Whoever does not have the capacity to debate should stay at the background and just read on rather than creating confusion. |
