How do you define "SOUTHERNERS". Does that only mean SS, and SE to you. Because looking at the landscape SW is still in the south.

APC will make 25℅ in 24 states. I m not sure about PDP.

I need a run off jare
That was exactly what I have been saying from the start. Even if PDP wins all the votes from the SS, and SE I just don't see how they were going to get the 25% in 24 states. APC on the other hand has the inside track to the 25% in 24 states. What I found amazing looking at the result, in 2011 Buhari total votes from all the SW states was just a bit over 400,000, this time around he has won all the states in that region, with Ekiti being the exception. The SW won the election for GEJ in 2011, and now the SW is losing him the election. That is just the fact looking at the numbers.

Car TalkRe: The Pros And Cons Of Using A Hybrid Vehicle In Nigeria by t2luv: 9:16pm On Jan 05, 2014
bsghaulage: My friend want to get a hybrid vehicle because of its fuel economy precisely a Camry 07 the one they call muscle, but am skeptical about the car.

I believe the maintenance of the vehicle may not be that easy here in Nigeria.

Anybody that has any idea about hybrid car should pls share
Dont go near hybrid car no matter what. The oem parts for hybrd are more expensive than it is for regular gasoline cars. If the computer that regulates the internal fuel mixure ever goes out there is no way you can replace it in Nigeria because replacing it requires a Toyota dealership to reprogram the computer to the engine computer. Secondly hybrid cars tends to work better with premium gasoline (93 Ocatne), something that is not in Nigeria.

fnk: The first step back is always the hardest, but those who have done it will tell you to do it, and if you muster the courage and do it, eventually, you will thank God you did.

You should first of all know that Nigeria will never be like the U.S. That doesn't mean that it could not be better, but for the time being, it will not.

I am one of those who relocated to Nigeria, you can learn from the mistake that people like me made, and do better from day one than people like us did. But going back to Nigeria was the best thing I did and will advice anyone out there to do.

I have a company that I set up in Nigeria now, my family is back in the U.S so I go back and forth and spend couple months or so each time, I have 12 people gainfully employed in my company, and we finance on U.S expenditure with our income from Nigeria. "Life is good"
You forget to tell the brother that the cost of living in Nigeria is higher that in the US. Trust me I know this to be true.

Obviously a scheme by the Cabals to under-finance them , otherwise how can the main department through which the presidents promise to fight corruption is going to be actualized be lacking in funds to pay overheads. EFCC needs a man like J Edgar Hoover to force fear in the souls of Presidents.
Nigeria J Edgar Hoover must be 1/4 Igbo, 1/4 Yoruba. 1/4 Hausa and 1/4 (Edo,Ijaw,Urobo) am I missing any other tribe. Even with all this criteria some people will still find fault with the person. Nothing in the fabric of that country holds us together, and that is a sad commentary.

Just because an airport is built some where does not mean airlines automatically comes in and start passenger service. There are so many airports in United states that have international in their name that does not have any international flight example Richmond International Airport (VA). I pray for the day we can start having international flights from all the airports in the country.

I completely agree. A Nigerian complaining about corruption is only doing so because he or she hasn't had the opportunity. Every time I come into that country I couldn't help but noticed that in Nigeria everything is possible we lie, we cheat, and we steal and on Sundays we worship and praise God and then expect to be blessed. PoliticsRe: Bola Ahmed Tinubu Arrives In Lagos by t2luv: 6:28am On Oct 06, 2013
Pedagogue: Tinubu: That politician that LACKS the moral fibre of a Buhari, the intellectual sagacity of Awolowo and the nationalistic orientation of Nnamdi Azikwe...

Tinubu is that modern day Nigerian politician that emblematises all what is called 'the new high tech level of corruption',a do or die political mentality and an unswerving apostle of godfather ism. He,like other politicians of this era, believe that politics is one of the prehensile ways for acquiring wealth.
They have also gotten to the audacious point of 'acquiring' power for and on behalf of their families.Their kiths and kins are in the Senate,House of Reps and other key political positions

But Tinubu is a SPECIAL breed. He is far ahead of his contemporaries in everything. I mean EVErYTHING,corruption inclusive!!!
Not only did he have the sagacious edge over his Governor colleagues in then AD who sheepishly sold their political empires to OBJ,he also had the political foresight to (almost) single handedly re-launch a dead party. That party today is 95 % in control of the South West.

Still not satisfied,he has teamed up with other politicians (albeit they are more or less strange bed fellows) to give PDP a good 'fight' in 2015. And believe me, the battle for the soul of Nigeria has started. For PDP,the honest truth is- they would have preferred a sick picture of Bola Tinubu lying down in one health facility in the UK than one waving at supporters at the Lagos Airport.

Don't get me wrong, Bola Tinubu is not a god.But if the individual strength of politicians is to be tested in the Country today, Tinubu's name would come tops.
I do not like what Tinubu represents neither do I like his style of politics. But the truth is, the current political tide in the country cannot throw up politicians in the mould of Awolowo, Bello or Zik. Thus, for Nigeria to break free from the shackles of PDP, Nigeria needs the Tinubu's of this world.

Nevertheless, Tinubu is not a saint. But in today's Nigeria, his brand of politics and party is the most realistic alternative to PDP. Love him or hate him,Tinubu can still be used to serve God's purpose for Nigeria...Remember Saul?

To the Jagaban of Borgu, I join u,your family and well wishers in thanking God for Showing u MERCY. Afterall,He said He will have Mercy on whom He will have mercy.

*So glad he's back.
I always say that country deserves the leaders that they have. This is a man that has never done anything while he was governor, and yet you have people showering him with adolation. Replacing one bad apple with another bad apple does the country no good. The people need to demand better from the elected leaders. This is a man that can't give account the source of his wealth, and are in aura of his personality. O ma se oo

hummmm. If you have $30,000 saved up in Nigeria, why will you like to come to America and at the end of the day pray that someone gives you a job so that you can make $50,000. Why don't you go into business. More satisfaction in working for own self than relying on another person for your pay check.
TravelRe: You want to COME TO AMERICA - Do You REALLY Know America? by t2luv: 5:12pm On Oct 05, 2013
meine: @Poster, you made some good arguments but you are overstretching the truth and scaring people unnecessarily . I guess you are also posting from the US and haven't relocated to Nigeria yet?. I know 3 families who ran back to the US and Canada after living in lagos for 6 months. grin They were also complaining like you e.g. Canada is too cold, america is too racist .If america is that bad for you why are you staying put? grin.I have lived in most of the countries and cities you mentioned,i currently shuttle between US and Lagos. I need to address some of the issues you raised and people should judge if i am lying.

1. About blacks in The US:There is something wrong with the psyche of an average black american, they are the one putting a lid on themselves in most cases.I often see many Nigerians travel to the US to get masters, within 4 years they are way ahead of their black american neighbors. Many blacks live on social security, they don't go to school, quick money etc but Nigerians are hustlers. I still insist that the problems with black Americans is beyond racism, their minds haven't broken away from the slavery era and that's why they can be so defensive. They are the first to scream racism. I bet you haven't dated an average akata girl before you will understand what i am saying. But Many are also doing good.

2. About Racism. Mr man every country has its own palava. The equivalent of racism in Nigeria is uncountable. Untill OBJ in 2001, you cant go far in the Nigerian military if you were not hausa or fulani. things were even worst for my Igbo brothers, it was like the rest of the country havent fully forgiven them. What about private companies? Take the case of Fidelitybank where you have mostly Igbos or Wemabank where you have Yorubas. Can you point to the number of Igbo people doing fine in Wemabank?. Is it not in Nigeria that Fashola deport beggars to their home states?. Let me ask you a question? which one will you prefer between having a white guy calling you monkey(It doesnt stick) or having the barrel of a gun stuck on your chin by thugs during 3rd mainland traffic snarl? What about the Justice system in Lagos that is so messed up. If you dial 911 in Lagos, will you even get the police to attend to you without greasing their palms? grin

3. About Auctions.... Am really mad about this one because i often buy cars from auctions. You need to do your search again because your arguments are off key. For example, in New Jersey you have cars sold with the green and red light. If you buy a car with the green light you can always return it. Many Americans also sell their cars in auctions to get quick cash not because of damages or accidents. Most Americans don't buy cars from auctions because Car loans are too available. Its only Nigerians that have cash to dole out on cars. Its Nigerians that corrupt everything, some will buy cars and change the mileage when it lands in Lagos. The auction system itself its not crooked. WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET

4. About Getting Help from Nigerian Neighbors: It depends on many factors, where do you live, your attitude etc. Where i stay in a quiet neighbourhood in Bowie, Maryland, I always have Nigerian kids at my place, the Nigerian neighbors also return the favor if we are going out. You need to see the love people get during naming and wedding ceremonies. YES nobody will allow you to sit at home and do nothing but that doesn't mean people wont help you in times of need if you are a good person.

5. About Mortgages: Its a choice bro, nobody can force you to rack up debts. A little training in personal finance will make credit handling a cakewalk. Do you want to build a mansion in ikorodu or mushin where land is cheap in Nigeria but have robbers and flood disturb you 24/7 or own a 3 bed apartment in a good neighborhood in the US while paying $800 monthly over 20 years? .Mind you, the lagos property market is one of the most expensive in the world,to add insult to injury the mortgage system in Nigeria is dead. Owning a home is a luxury for many.

6. Pictures of American Slums: Please note that 60% of Lagos,Nigeria is also slum because the towns were either not planned at all or poorly planned with no buffer for future population growths. If you have a moderate job in the US you can live decently, Its a matter of choice. For example I cant live in Bronx or Manhattan in New York . Even some of the American slums you showed us have well tarred roads while such highbrow areas like Magodo, Lekki phase 1, etc still have some untarred streets till date

This is my conclusion, there is no green pasture anywhere. Every country has its ups and down but dont discourage people from going to the US if you wont relocate back to Iyana Ipaja grin. Sorry but Nigeria is not livable for many at the moment because nothing is working but With careful planning, hardwork and prayer people can earn a living easily in the US.
"With careful planning, hardwork and prayer people can earn a living easily in the US" That right there captures the spirit of America. This is the land of oppurtunity, where every individual is free to pursue his or her own American dream. I wasn't born here, but I can assure you I have more rights in this foreign land than in my own fathers land.

PoliticsRe: FG Plans To Ban Importation Of Vehicles by t2luv: 12:26pm On Sep 21, 2013
mikeansy: lol

Nigeria is not even 30years away from being able to mass produce cars

this policy is half baked and was simply crafted by people who simply have no clue!

The supplier base is not even there!

Where are your metal stamping companies who make metal panels to build a car body structure?
Where are your toolmakers who build progressive and transfer dies to supply to metal stamping companies?
Where are the Injection moulders for your plastic dash boards? bumpers? side mirror case?
where are your rubber manufacturing companies?
Where are the fastening companies for all your bolts and screws?
where are the glass manufacturers for all the wind shields?

Lets even forget about the supplier base? where is the energy for any kind of manufacturer to succeed? We will not legislate our way to industrialization without getting the fundamentals right!

Yes I do agree that we need to learn from China, a lot of the inner cities of China especially around Shenzhen still look like Nigeria and there is poverty everywhere in China too. And yes the Chinese have come so far by engaging in trade wars and taxing all sorts of imported goods. I am privy to information to the trade war by the Chinese Government on the New Range Rover Evoque and that policy led Jaguar Land Rover (or these days Tata) to form a joint venture with Cherry Automotive and they are as we speak are building the Range Rover Evoque somewhere near Shanghai!

That said this much is fact:

China have electricity and good road networks
China has a manufacturing base and suppliers of allied products and so it makes sense to site a factory in China
China is the factory of the world anyway because cheap labour has meant that manufacturing is very cheap there
China has a population of 1.3billion people. That amounts to about 30% of the world population (You cant ignore them)

BUT NIGERIA IS NOT CHINA, THE WORLD WILL SIMPLY IGNORE US AND OUR PROTECTIONISM. The only sector we can pursue a protectionist policy is the oil sector and for some curious reasons we are not!

Nigeria need to chill assess where we are and plan a way forward. Banning things for the sake of it is not the way to go. Our long Customs import prohibition list has done nothing but expand smuggling, and encourage corruption as our customs officers are just collecting bribes up and down on everything. It has also created an economy in cotonou because a large chunk of containers routed to cotonou are actually destined for Nigeria. This is money going to the Government of Republic of Benin.

Government needs to do more than just ban goods importation. Let us solve our electricity challenge first, let the Commerce and Industry Minister also explore other honest means to encourage small scale manufacturing. When the condition is conducive Manufacturing Firms will spring up. Africa is at the backyard of Europe. If we can offer exactly the same thing China can offer the world, I don't see why for logistic reasons businesses in Europe will not make things in Africa instead of China. But the truth is we are no where near competing yet and have to do more on our infrastructures.

But on a final note. The Merchant and the Manufacturer have every right to co-exist within our economy. Let both sides be governed by cost and forces of demand and supply. Government can encourage local manufacturing by subsidizing local manufacturers to help them compete against imported goods. Banning goods for the sake of it is a very lazy response to the issue! Because Merchants employs labour too in the absence of employment from Manufacturers. Enough of the self defeating policy.
Thank you for explaining some of the things I have been trying to get across on this thread. Nigeria at present does not have the raw material to manufacture a car. There are so many process, and parts involve in the manufacturing of an automobile. That company in Ogun State is not assemblying any car, that company is just "Pimping" a ride.
PoliticsRe: FG Plans To Ban Importation Of Vehicles by t2luv: 11:25pm On Sep 17, 2013
manny4life: You keep saying "OUR", I asked you, is it plants owned by GM? Besides, how do you define "most part"? Most parts include the car skeleton, the windshield, the transmission and engines, the seats, and dashboard. If you have all these, 85% of car is done with. So again, what parts does GM produce? The mold of the car, yes, but does GM produce their own engines or transmission? Does GM produce their own wiring/wires abi is it the seats? Like other than the mold, WHAT DOES GM PRODUCE?
The plants are own by GM. The workers in those plants work for GM. GM plants that makes parts are under ACDelco. ACDelco is a GM wholly owned subsidary. There is an ACDelco plant in California that makes the engine for both Toyota Corrolla and Chevy Spectrum. In fact do you know that Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe are the same car. Only thing different are the emblem on the cars

manny4life: Plants owned by GM or other companies? huh huh

If Hamtramck is just an assembly point just like Innoson, what stops other local industries in Nigeria to supply parts to Innoson?
Most of the parts that goes into our cars are made at our plants. Some of the exceptions are Headlight, Taillight(Back Light) those are made by Ford plants (Visteron). The Windsheild are from Toyota plant in California.

Let me educate you on your own plant in Michigan:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit/Hamtramck_Assembly
Hamtramck is an Assembly plant. That's all it is. Parts are manufactured at other plants, and then brought to Hamtramck for final assemble to make a car.

Rossikk: You do NOT work in the auto industry or you would not use this layman 'demarcation' of 'manufacturing' versus 'assembling'. In the auto industry it doesn't exist.
FYI, I work at the GM Tech Center in Warren MI. Example take an EFI (Electronics Fuel Injector). All GM EFI are manufactured at Romuolus (Detriot Diesel Plant). They are then assemble into an engine at Novi Powertrain Plant, See the difference between manufacture and assemble.
PoliticsRe: FG Plans To Ban Importation Of Vehicles by t2luv: 10:43pm On Sep 17, 2013
Rossikk: Actually - and this may come as a surprise to you, there is NO difference between ASSEMBLING a vehicle and MANUFACTURING one.

They both mean THE SAME THING in the auto industry. There is NO differentiation between the two, except by LAYMEN.

Essentially all vehicle manufacturing is assembly.

In fact, typically, all plants where cars are built are called Car Assembly Plants.

Examples:

http://www.eurofound.europa.eu/emcc/automotivemap/

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10172345
I agree all parts are brought from various part manufacturing plants to the final assembly plant. What I am saying is that all the Nigeria does not have the raw material to make those parts locally. We can assemble, but not make the parts.

Let me you in on something. The powertrain (Engine & Transmission) were never manufactured in Nigeria that I can bet you on that. You don't have any heat treat facility to grind, bored, and polish the steel. The only steel plant in Nigeria only makes Rod steels. Nigeria does not have any stamping metal plant to stamp out the metal sheets for the vehicle. I know all this because I work for General Motors. I am not saying we can't do it. we just don't have the expertise yet to do it. Too many routing, and product structure steps involve.

Peinstein: We have the raw materials needed in the automobile industry but I am afraid this policy should be looked into properly

Cost of production in Nigeria is generally higher than in China and some other Asian countries - so the automobiles produced may be more expensive

There is insufficient competition in the local automobile industry, if these policy is not effected properly we might be having another monopoly

The average consumer might be affected negatively. The cars produced locally would likely be more expensive that their asian counterparts,

Nigerians have a negative orientation to locally produced goods that require complex mechanisms, which means there would still be high demand for foreign made cars, subsequently the cost of such cars would increase. At the end of the day buying a car might be more than an affordable luxury for an average Nigerian.

My opinion. I go with Afam4eva and CFCfan's suggestion.
Hate to tell you this, Nigeria don't have the raw material needed to make a bicycle not to talk less of an automobile. All you can do in Nigeria is assembly the product with material flown in from other countries.
