Superstition or belief in a deity does not stop advancement . I gave countries who are doing fine and are both superstitious and religious . People mock the North because of their poverty rate and believe Islam - their religion - is the cause . But look at UAE , Saudi Arabia , Qatar and see how hard they ball . And they are very strict with their religious beliefs - execution of criminal offenders by beheading , flogging of sex offenders in public , misogyny etc .
