JaySterling: Guys, I need an urgent advice about passport please. I have already filled my DS-160 form and booked my interview with my passport that would expire in May (4 months time) My interview is in 4 days time in Lagos. Fortunately, I just got a text from immigration that my new passport is ready for pickup. I have applied for this passport since August and there were no booklets to print Anyways, I'm getting it tomorrow
Do I just attend my interview like that with the two passports?
Or I have to fill in a new DS-160 ?
You know on the DS-160, the issue date and expiry date I filled is for the old passport
And now the new one will have new issue and expiry date. Please advise!! I don't want to be turned back at the embassy on Thursday Go with the two passports, no need to fill another ds160. |

Please I am asking for a friend. When he filled his DS160 intially he selected Lagos as the location for the interview but he got appointment date for Abuja. Later on, he filled another DS160 with Abuja as location and the confirmation number on the DS160 form has changed however he could not update his confirmation number on the cgi profile. Please what can he do? Should he go to Abuja for the interview with the old confirmation number which corresponds with the number on appointment confirmation page or the new confirmation number which doesn't correspond with the number on the appointment confirmation page? |

Is anyone here schooling in Morgan State University Maryland or applied there and has secured GA? I had a zoom interview with a professor in April and he got back to me in May that I've been recommended for a TA position, however I haven't gotten the GA mail and the class starts 23rd August. What do you suggest I do?

Patsido: VISA APPROVED. June 16, 2021.
All glory and Adoration to him who is able to do much more than we can ever ask or imagine.
This is my 3 Attempt. First was October 19, 2020 with my 9 yr old daughter at Lagos ( Florida State University, Tallahassee. Scholarship $15,000). Second Attempt, I applied alone December 2, 2020 at Abuja( Florida State University).
Third Attempt today June 16, 2021 ( Abuja). I applied with my 6 month old baby and 9 years old daughter. I couldn't imagine leaving her behind. Appointment was for 8am. Got to the Embassy 6.45am. The rush of those hustlers at the embassy is indescribable. No matter what they asked me I just told them am fine and I don't need anything. Abuja Embassy had a lot of applicants today. When I got to the CGI official to arrange my documents, he asked for my passport photographs and it was no where to be found. I was just wondering which Kain local trouble be dis one. He asked me to take another picture for the 3 of us. I had to go back get my phone to retrieve soft copies. They printed for N3,000 after asking for N7500. My interview finally took place at about 11.30am. I was interviewed by the white lady. They were just a male and female VO. I noticed the female VO was dishing out more approvals than denials.
Funding( Scholarship)- $40,000 Dependents- $13000 Deficit- $31000 Total deficit- $44,000
V.O: pass me your I-20 and passport
Me: Excuse ma'am I stutter sometimes ( ,)
V:O: That's ok V.O: I see you are going to University of xxxxcx for your masters in Law.
Me: yes ma'am
VO: Are those your only children?
Me: yes ma'am
VO: How old are they?
VO: The baby is 6 months and the other is 9yrs old.
VO: You have been to the US?
Me: yes I got a child birth Visa in October 2017 and we bought our tickets shortly after but lost my pregnancy. We decided to change it to a Christmas vacation so that I can have a change of environment. I have the medical report.
VO: ( she kept nodding her head) and said sorry about that.
V.O: what is your highest qualification?
Me: I graduated with a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Jos in 2003 and proceeded to the Nigerian Law School same year and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2004.
Meanwhile she was reading and typing. I just dey kabash under my face mask. I dey cancel every negative remark on my profile.
VO: what is this masters going to do for you?
Me: Over the years my legal Career has been hinged on my Bachelor's degree and Work experience. I do not have a masters degree and because of the demand for legal pratictioners who are skilled in Nigeria, it has become imperative for me to acquire an advance knowledge in the field of law. This program will equip me with skills and knowledge to negotiate multinational transactions and regulatory framework for foreign trade and investment. This program will also equip me with skills and knowledge to resolve international sales disputes as I will be handling legal issues that arise from Multinational transaction on behalf of my clients in the corporate and commercial setting upon my return to Nigeria. I am also looking to improving my professional credentials so that I can secure a lucrative post in a multinational company in Nigeria.
VO: what have you been doing as a lawyer?
Me: I incorporate new companies, handle post incorporation processes, render legal opinion on my behalf...( She cut me off)
VO: ( she stops typing & starts looking at my I-20). You have a scholarship of $40,000 and the deficit will be taken care of by your husband?
Me: yes
VO: what does he do ?
Me: He is the CEO of xxxxx Nig LTD a furniture company that manufactures metal and wooden furniture for Schools in the Northeast on behalf of UNICEF, Educational Establishments and Individuals. He also builds living Apartment and office spaces and offers for rent
VO: Ok I will be keeping your passports..... ( I no remember this last part)
Me: I was shocked when she made this statement. I never realized how this denials affected me. I was like approval with my two kids? She didn't ask for statement of account, accommodation , daycare, Evidence of Elementary school for my 9 years old
I already made arrangements for all of the above. I have been asking God to arise for me and he did.
Please if you see Jesus thank him for me. I shed tears of joy that my daughter asked me " Mummy we didn't win again"
I gained a whole lot from the thread and it's fair that I come here to present my transcript.
Thank you Fairheart, for being so selfless. Thank you Zeelady for the tips. Congrats, you are an epitome of God's favor. |

Malone122: Refill a new ds160 and correct the error with the person sponsoring the education (dad/ uncle ) Then update the new ds160 number on your CGI profile Do this 3 days before the interview at most There is no question like who is sponsoring your education on DS160 form, the question on DS160 is, who is paying for your trip with options like self/person/entity, however,if you choose self, it's not out of place. |

Tobzzzty: When they ask Person/Entity Paying for Your Trip on DS-160 form. Do they mean I should put my Funding details like all my sponsors. Or does it mean who is paying for just my flight tickets?
I selected Self because I thought it was about the flight trips. My sponsor is my dad and uncle.
1. Please will this be an issue during the interview? 2. What should I do since I have already submitted my DS160, paid and already booked for a visa appointment with this error.
Please I would appreciate a response. I am just confused. It's ok, don't bother yourself |

Only for me to receive my I-20 stating his company's name as my sponsor.
Now I am at a cross road as I don't know if I should put my uncle name's or his company's name as sponsor on the DS-160 form?
Thanks guys in anticipation of your response. If the account bears the name of your uncle, you will need to contact the school for an ammended i20 |

angels1: Hello everyone I have some questions
1. Does the immigration officer have access to forms you sent to school. 2. Is there a problem if you are going for a second masters in US? 3. When filling DS160 the portion that states if you are traveling with company what is the best answer. I intend traveling with my husband but he does not yet have his passport and my I 20 does not indicate I am traveling with anyone. If I fill i am not traveling with anyone can he apply for f2 if I am still in the country? 4. When I sent my proof of funds to school I filled cousin but my i20 shows family. If asked who is sponsoring me can I say uncle or brother I have to say cousin? Thank you. 1. No 2. No, but if you're asked anything regarding that, tell the VO, why you need a 2nd MSc 3. Since your i20 doesn't show that you have dependents or since there is no i20 for your dependents, he will need to apply for F2 while you're there after you must have contacted the DSO of your school to ammend/update your i20. 4. Uncle |

Omonikansoso: Please I'd appreciate your advice.
I was denied three times for an f1 visa btw 2018&2019. Two masters program and phd. All without funding. My spouse studies in the US and both universities I applied were same as his. During the interviews, the Visa officers asked if I have kids(I dont) and kept asking why I'm applying to same school as my spouse ( this question came up in the three interviews and it was at this point I got denied). My response was along these lines: Emotional support for both of us, research in the school that aligns with mine. I have however secured a full funded PHD program with surplus funding( the surplus scares me sef) in Engineering in Missouri ( my spouse stays at Florida). How do I respond to a question e.g why are you going to same country with your spouse? (Married for 4years, no kids yet). How do I prove ties asides having a lecturing job with the Federal Government?
I take God beg una make una help a sister make my funding no waste. Thanks Congrats on your admit with full funding. Have you considered applying for F2 visa instead of F1? Did you fill it in your DS 160 form that you already had a PhD degree? If yes, you may be asked by the VO about why you are going for another PhD program. If you have research experience, you can look for schools in the US that can take you into their postdoc fellowship programs. If your husband has funding, he can request that your own i20 for dependents should be sent to you and then you can apply for F2 visa with that. Those are the other options you have, however since you have admission with full funding and you have applied for F1 visa interview, just be hopeful that your next F1 visa interview will be successful. |

Dongatzby: Good afternoon guys. I’ve been a passive member of this forum for about a week. I have been reading from the beginning and learning from you guys. For the front runners, please keep up the good work. If you are still awaiting your admission or visa, I pray that your letter of joy shall reach you this year!
PLEASE, I need your enlightenment on my sponsor’s statement of account
Program: msc environmental science. COA: 40k Funding: 0
My intended sponsor is a family friend (uncle) who is a politician. He has agreed to talk to his lawyer to give me a statement of account but no letter to disclose his office involvement. (You know how it is with our politicians).
The question is, do I need the sponsors letter? And will this plan fly? The person's statement of account is ok. If you're asked who is sponsoring you, just say it's your uncle and not family friend. |

Shadomaan7: Hello All,
I did my visa interview today at the Lagos embassy and was denied. The reason was because the VO said there is no proof that I got a tuition waiver from my school but I showed her where it was written on the I-20 but she said it’s not enough proof. I attack the I-20 screenshot below.
Transcript VO: Good Morning. Pass me your I-20 and passport. VO: Why are you going to the USA Me: I’m going to the USA for my masters in Industrial Engineering at LSU VO: Why LSU Me: After I completed my GRE exam, I went online to look for universities that offer admission for Ms in industrial engineering and LSU was part of the universities that came up in the search. I emailed the departmental coordinator with my credentials and she gave a promising reply and went far as saying I can merit a tuition waiver from the graduate school with my credentials which I was later awarded.
—That is where the problem started, the VO said she can’t see any tuition waiver award on my I-20 but I told her it’s right there under the remarks with a ** and she said no.
Then I brought out a printout of the email from the graduate school where they gave the tuition waiver award and she said that is still not enough evidence and she will be denying my visa.
Normally total cost of attendance is $47,600 but with my tuition waiver it’s $22100. But yet this VO is not taking it.
Please help me guys, I am trying to reapply, could you please advise on what need to be done?
I just emailed the department coordinator, graduate school, and ISO office to notify them about this and request an official letter of the tuition waiver award but no reply yet coz I think it’s still very early in USA.
Please advise on what I can do about this.
Also: What process do I need to take to reapply for my visa? Do I need to fill in another DS-160? Could some help with a high level view of how I need to reapply for appointment because I am trying to reapply today ASAP to get a date sooner. Truly, a critical look at the screenshot of your i20 shows nothing about the funding/tuition waiver. You will need the school to prepare another i20 for you which will show that the COA=$47600 and *funding from school/tuition waiver=$22100*, family fund=$25500. Without the asterisked part spelt out on your i20, the VO will not believe your story and the proof from your email. The school should give the proper breakdown on your i20, if truly you have the tuition waiver. |

mimme14sure: Good Day Everyone. I have a bit of a challenge. I have my visa interview next week. This is after I requested an emergency booking. I just found out that on my DS 160 form, I indicated the course of study as Chemical Engineering but on my I-20 it's Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering. Would it be an issue during the interview? How do I answer/defend this error?
Which one should I say when asked during the interview? DS160 or I-20
Please, I really need help to answer this.
Thank you Say what you have on your i20. The VO mayn't notice what is on your DS160 (You can support this with prayer). Another thing you can do is to fill another DS160 form, to correct the error. However, if you'll fill another DS160 form make sure the barcode number on your DS160 form corresponds with the appointment confirmation number on your appointment slip which you'll print from your CGI profile, otherwise you'll be turned back. |

Tayoade19: Good morning people. God proved himself great this morning at the US embassy, I appreciate God for His faithfulness. Thanks to everyone on this platform for your numerous and useful contributions. The visa appointment was by 9:45am today. Status: visa approved. Full transcript will be sent soon. As promised, here is the full transcript of my encounter at the Lagos Embassy yesterday. I am sharing this to encourage someone and for the person to believe that with God, nothing is impossible and indeed there is a God who rules in the affairs of men. The key prayer focus should be favour. Fast forward to the experience/encounter. Two years ago, I was refused B1/B2 visa at the Lagos Embassy and when I was in the queue, I saw the same VO who refused me then and within me I was praying silently that God let it not be this VO who would interview me today. Lo and behold, I was told to go to his window and it was as if I had my heart in my mouth, I could feel my heartbeat because of the fear. He gave the lady in my front blue paper, I didn't listen to their conversation because I wasn't paying attention, I was praying within me. After giving the lady the blue slip, he was still speaking with the lady, then I was told to move to the next window which was vacant (instant answered prayer). However, when the VO who eventually interviewed me, asked the first question, I wasn't really stable because I'd thought I would be interviewed by the other guy. Let me not bore you with too much story. The interview did not last more than 3 minutes, here is the transcript; GA: $18K Deficit: $2.5k VO: Good morning Me: Good morning Sir. VO: Pass me your passport and i20 (VO started typing) Me: I did VO: You are going for a master's program at the University of Nebraska right? Me: Yes Sir VO: Why this program? Me: (trying to become stable). My reason for this program is fueled by my interest in understanding the interactions between diet and human genes, the molecular basis of obesity. (VO was just gazing at the computer screen, I didn't know whether he was hearing me or not) VO: What will this degree do for you? Me: This program will expose me to both theoretical and practical aspects of nutrigenomics such that when I return to Nigeria, I will be able to contribute to the research projects of the metabolic research group of the bleep university where I work and for years I have been assisting them in this lab for their research projects. (VO was just nodding his head) VO: Are you married? Me: Yes VO: Is your wife going with you? Me: No VO: Why? Me: She is currently in school for her graduate program at a Nigerian university. VO: I think I will be giving you this chance, hang on a second (VO started typing) Me: Ok Sir. VO: Who is sponsoring you? Me: I have a graduate assistantship that covers the tuition and monthly stipend while my uncle will take care of the deficit. (I was surprised VO did not ask for SOA) VO: Your visa is approved. Me: Thank you, Sir. VO: Take your i20 along with you, you will need it at the port of entry and take your passport at this circled location, other information is on that slip. Me: Thank you, Sir. Enjoy your day! Na so I just packed my things commot from the VO's window and was just praising God. PS: For you to experience a seamless visa interview, the God factor is very crucial, pray and fast. For it is not of him that willeth nor of him that runneth but of the Lord that showeth mercy. For those who will still be going for visa interview, I pray that God's mercies will speak for you in Jesus name. Amen! |

[quote author=ItBlessing post=102263057]And when asked what course I'm going for, it has to be what is written on my I-20 right even with the fact that there's a letter backing it up from the school. [/quote
You may explain your case to the school official who issued your i20, if it can be changed. However, if you don't get the amended i20, you may need to adhere to what is on the i20. I think each program has a code assigned to it and if there is modification about the nomemclature of the program this mayn't change on the i20. In my own case as well, the admission letter has the new nomemclature of the program while the i20 has the old nomenclature. The VO didn't however request for my admission letter. |

Laworldz: congratulations! Mine was not not approved and I am going for PHD with funding and $2500 deficit. I’m still surprised but the only thing the consular was asking about is why the course on my I20 is different from what I said I’m going for and I explained that it’s the Umbrella/ Sevis code for courses related to mine. I already sent an email to my school explaining cuz I’m not sure I understand why he was just focused on that I think you should have stuck to what is written on the i20 and then narrow down to your research interest. What was written on my i20 is also different from the name of program and what I filled on the DS 160, however when the VO asked for the name of the program, I said what is on the i20 and talked about my research interest in that program. |
