I'm just bothered that she felt so comfortable leaning on another guy...if she wanted to pose for a pic, she/they should have done it in a more decent manner...this pic looks absurd.
Relax. If the guy in front is her brother, cousin or close relation? What's wrong with leaning on him?

People just love to see and assume the negative aspect of things.

Kadata: Hutchinson in pdf is like the biblical camel passing through the eyes of a needle. I'm sha managing the chm in the tab 10.1. Chm readers on android Os is common thing. I used to hear that playbook can download from android market- dunnoo how true. Or a chm to pdf converter might do the job.

Laptop has recently been too heavy to carry.

I really like the idea of that good phone you raised - even Samsung galaxy pocket reads .chm and pdf perfectly- just the screen size ish. I was so surprised it did. But at least it does.

Btw, we are waiting for the part 2 of ur post for us in clinicals.
Thanks for your response. CHM converters aren't really effective at least the ones I've tried. I'll manage the hutch like that, and substitute with one other one I got, quite detailed and in my opinion better than hutch.

PlayBook doesn't download directly android apps, not with the new OS upgrade that's unhackable.

God you are too much for seeing me through 6 good years of hardwork, diligence and perseverance!!!

I pray that all medics starting this journey will make it even better than I did!!!
best of luck bro in finals . Wow 6 exact years in unilorin, you guys are damn lucky. Even no go better for ASUU and their numerous strikes sha

Kadata: Same here. Some books have sha proven 'undownloadable'. A stubborn one has been Norman Browse. Had no choice but to buy. Its the only I've bought so far. The rest are carefully on my tab.
your head dey there my guy.

Some of my colleagues don't like reading off a tablet screen though. They prefer the traditional book. Na them savings sha.

Do you have Hutchinson in pdf? Have it in CHM but playbook doesn't support CHM have to use laptop. I need read that stuff before finals.

EducationRe: The medical students and aspirants thread by TCD: 9:33am On Nov 14, 2012
Ok guys now the continuation of my long rant. Sorry this is coming late.

For your year two you start pre-clinical. .......Anatomy, physiology, biochemistry. Depending on your school anatomy canned broken down to gross anatomy, neuro anatomy, embryology, histology etc. Physiology, CVS physiology, neurophysiology, endocrinology respiratory, etc. Biochemistry also has its own.

What I'll advice any preclinical student is even if you don't know anything please just KNOW your Physiology. In my opinion physiology is the basis of medicine. In simple terms it deals with the normal functioning of the human body. If you know the normal, studying the abnormal in your clinical classes will be a piece of cake. Because pathology, OnG, paeds, internal med and surgery for the, most part deal with abnormal physiology and how to correct them.

Someone asked about the pass/fail system. It just means that there are no grades A, B, C, D, E, F. Once you get 50% and above you are graded as P(pass). 49 and below is Fail. So strive to get at least 50 in all your assessments. Even if you get below 50 for example 45 in PHS 2011, you can buffer using another Physiology course eg PHS 2012 scored 55. Your average will now be 50.

It'll be a good idea to get video lectures on anatomy, PHS and biochemistry. They help alot. You should have some for sale in your school. YouTube is also a very good resource for video lectures.
The Internet is also your friend. There are countless textbooks available for download online. Especially anatomy. It used to be so abstract to me back then, till I was able to come across some very wonderful textbooks which just simplified everything with pictures atlas and explanations.

Remember back then our neuroanatomy lecturer will just come, blab, show us cardboard with very ugly drawings and disappears. I did not even bother. Just crammed what I could went for exam and wrote wetin I fit. Wasn't until when I was researching for a seminar sometime ago I came across atlas of regional anatomy of the brain, functional neuroanatomy, and some other pdf textbooks on neuroanatomy did I finally appreciate that course.

Cant remember when last I bought a textbook in med school. Why would I spend 7K+ on kumar or Davidson when I can get it soft copy for free and carry it around in my pocket.

Never underestimate the power of a good phone, tablet or laptop. Infact everyone should have a laptop at least. It helps. That way you can always carry your library everywhere with you. The books I have in different courses number up to 200 they come in handy for referencing.

Now onto money matters. As a medical student you're eligible to apply for a number of scholarships. Please do apply when they come out. Better for you if you're from the south south. I have classmates who get close to 1 million a year from different scholarships including their state governments and alot of oil companies. I wasn't as aggressive as them in applying back then and I regret it now. These days it's even easier most applications are done online. Back then you had to run from pillar to post, photocopying this, attaching that, stamp this, NIPOST wahala etc. Times have really changed walahi.

There are blogs you can subscribe to that give you updates as soon as scholarship opportunities open up.

Rounding up preclinical, you'll be writing your 2ND MB exam in your 3rd year. That's your first professional exams. All the exams you've been writing from yr2 to yr 3 is just continuous assessment towards this professional exam. They make up 40% of your score while the MB itself is 60% a total of 100%. You just need 50% to pass. However you get the 50 doesn't matter. Just get it.

FamilyRe: Men! What's Happening To Your Birthright? by TCD: 2:24am On Nov 06, 2012
bibigirl07: It has come to my notice that more and more MEn are beginning to neglect their Responsibilities and pushing it to their wives. Every morning, whilst I do my road-walk, I keep seeing this thirty-something year old woman packaging her 4 kids to schl as early as five am in a bid to avoid the traffic, the husband sleeps at home all day, doing nothing. He keeps spinning yarn that he is a contractor bla, bla, bla, yet for the past five years he hasn't done any job. His wife pays the bills, house rent, school fees, car maintenance and purchase, clothings and all. How do u expect such a woman to retain the respect for her man? A man is respected and adored for his ability to be the breadwinner, to be the protector, the head while the wife supports. Woman are wired to nurture, not to manufacture. Your wife becomes the breadwinner and u are surprised when she starts acting like a man? What are ur constructive opinions on this pressing issue...
With this logic, let's flip the coin. Are you saying it is justified if a man loses respect for a woman and treats her like thrash when she can't fulfill her primary function of bearing children? A barren woman deserves no respect, right? Is this your opinion?
FamilyRe: My Marriage,my Weight by TCD: 2:14am On Nov 06, 2012
I'm yet to see a fat woman who will gladly accept that she is fat or growing bigger. They are always in denial. "I'm big", "big boned" , "fleshy", "curvy", "have a little flesh" "plus size" bla bla bla. Its when they become chronically fat with tummies as big as satellite dish and resign themselves to that fact, they now change to "I'm big bold and beautiful".

OP, we see it all the time. Women have kids and use that excuse to baloon out of proportion. I highly doubt your husband wants you to be exactly how he met you in the university, you're just saying that for effect to get sympathy. He wants you to lose weight and be healthy. For him to complain I'm sure something definitely is amiss. There is no smoke without fire. Or you want him to wait till u get to a BMI of 45 before he starts urging you to lose weight?

Besides that, Its very healthy for you to be fit. Love yourself and do what's right for you so you can live longer and cater for those two kids.

EducationRe: 53% Foreign-schooled Doctors Fail Induction Tests by TCD: 7:45am On Nov 02, 2012
That they failed doesn't mean they are poorly trained. Undergraduate Medical education everywhere focuses on diseases and conditions that are prevalent in that given region. Tropical medicine is a slightly different ball game.

A medical school in russia won't bother too much about exhaustively teaching malaria, sickle cell or polio in their curriculum because it doesn't concern them. Meanwhile if you aren't well grounded in these areas in Naija you must fail that exam.

I know of an American specialist who came here and was so excited about seeing a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. He said he has never seen one before, overthere stuffs like this are caught very early through ultrasound before it gets to the rupture stage. A med student in naija has seen more than 8 sef. Would you say the American specialist is poorly trained? In Nigeria its only when the thing has ruptured, massive bleeding and they are almost dying then they will remember oh, hospital exists.

One other thing, the format of examinations in naija might be different from that where they trained. It's going to have to take some getting used to. I believe most of them will pass in their next attempt. Goodluck to them.
HealthRe: The Facts And Myths Of Sickle Cell Disease by TCD: 5:16pm On Oct 31, 2012
Some people don't like themselves o. A drug is still in the phase of "clinical" trials and somebody here is ranting and crying for doctors to start prescribing it. Do you know what a clinical trial is?

You have in effect turned yourself into a guinea pig and you want a doctor who patients trust to safeguard their health to start prescribing unproven and uncertified medications that could potentially harm them.

Quick advice, there is a reason why even in the USA FDA approval for a new drug takes over 10 years. It has to have gone through studies to certify safety, efficacy, effects (long term and short term) and dosing.

If you like keep playing guinea pig with your life. Because you feel great now you think the drug "has no side effect". When your liver starts failing in 5 years time or tumour pops up somewhere na then eye go clear you or you start producing children with two heads.

Google thalidomide and read up on its wide use and circumstances leading to its withdrawal then you'll understand why protocols have been put in place for drug approval.

newman10: Oga TCD, my query is that in your spare time, you should help us put together sites and links to get HD games and quality apps so that we too can flex on our playbooks like you guys. Thanks in anticipation
these will be quite difficult now. Links are on this thread, most have expired or blocked by RIM, minus.com has disabled access to non-media files. It's going to take sometime for new ones to come up.

Most are on media fire, problem is I can seem to be able to search media fire. Looks like they don't have search option. I think some are on pirate bay, problem is how many have a good connection to download torrents?

If I had a good internet connection, I would have uploaded my entire catalogue to a file sharing site so people can download.
