Zeddicus: MR TCD..Well done o..I don't know if this is within your scope but how much would it cost you to send me a brand new 64GB PB fully setup with essential apps added for me to Abuja? Waiting for a reply.
Unfortunately sir, I don't sell playbooks. Maybe guys around here like Lexus and the rest that sell can help you with that.

alstacs: Oga TCD and the great ones here, I'm yet to get an to my question!
Any ebook reader for .chm files?
Also Isilo reader is no longer listed in the blackberry android app. Please if you have it, kindly mail it to me.
The file explorer here sucks. My folder system is disrespected and all my files are just listed out in a long list. Any correct file explorer out there?
No chm reader as far as I know. Converted an android one and sideloaded didn't work.

For isilo, don't use it. Can't say much about it. Its availabe at goodereader playbook android app store.

File explorer I think we talked about it here before. Files and folders is a good file explorer app. Even allows you to transfer files via bluetooth between pb and your bb. File shield let's you hide files you don't want people to see.

But others include, fotostore pro Its just like photoshop on PB, tablet TV, Vevo, pacemaker (DJ app), ofcourse the adobe pdf reader, 10000 free ebooks app (get a lot of novels and books from here), currency converter, Nobex radio, score mobile, and ofcourse numerous games.
PhonesRe: Blackberry Playbook: Anyone? by TCD: 11:38am On Oct 23, 2012
Niiade: free space is 1.8gb sir.
1.8GB is small o, the when sideloading the PB takes up 2times the space, I notice if I'm sideloading a 500MB file for example, during the process, 1GB will be used then at the end of the day, extra 500mb is recovered.

Seems it first copies a temporary file into the pb then installs finally deletes the temporary file.

For a 735MB file about 1.4GB will be used during the sideloading. Maybe that's why you're having problem.
PhonesRe: Blackberry Playbook: Anyone? by TCD: 11:15am On Oct 23, 2012
I'm on OS 2.1 beta, I haven't upgraded yet, I'm in no hurry.
Have you tried sideloading another app? See if it works. Also what's you're free space available in your pb.
@TCD thank u very much for ur advice, u've really opened my eyes to see things which i culdn't see b4.
I agree with u, d syllabus for 100 level is somewhat similar to that of secondary school except for a little complexity.
Concerning d quota stuff, Unilag only admittd 104 medical students,merit-98 supplementary-6, but since d quota is 150 i guess successful diploma students will also fill in d space.
D only problem is that does d quota change yearly?
The quota is constant. It's what mdcn during their accreditation visit has adjudged to be the number of students your facilities can handle satisfactorily according to standards. It can only change if the medical school expands infrastructure wise to be able to accomodate more students and mdcn approves such.

So basically that quota doesn't change yearly or as often as you think.

Unilag's case yes, the remaining slots I think are being kept for direct entery candidates that'll join you in your 2nd year. Also wouldn't rule out them admitting lesser number of students to offset the overpopulation in the senior classes.
PhonesRe: Blackberry Playbook: Anyone? by TCD: 9:42am On Oct 23, 2012
Chief Niiade, you can try this...transfer the file to your bb memory card, then use the bb file manager to rename it to modern combar.bar . Just clear the entire name u have there and type by yourself modern combat.bar. Then transfer back to your pc and sideload.

EducationRe: The medical students and aspirants thread by TCD: 9:24pm On Oct 22, 2012
Hope the spambot doesn't ban me for talking too much huh

..Okay guys, here it goes. Congratulations for having gotten admission into medical school, whether it's by merit, catchment, runs or your papa connections, doesn't matter. Nobody cares how you got in, What matters now is you have gotten in, it's going to be a tough and stressful journey lasting for 6-7-8 years (when you add strike)

What I'm going to mention here is just to try and shine a torch for you into the 'dark street' to at least make life alot easier. These are based on my personal experiences as well as those of colleagues both in my teaching hospital and other schools. Let me quickly add that I admire the doggedness and determination some of you have shown in your attempts to get into med school, I hope you get in eventually. I was very fortunate I wrote jamb only once had a great score and got admission into med school immediately after my SS3.

Now to your first year, you'll be doing science courses like mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology (depending on your school you might have more science courses) in addition, English and your Gst or GSS courses. Those science courses in addition to English are core courses. You'll do them for two semesters.

These courses are very easy to pass, but also easy to fail. It's very easy to be carried away in first year, new freedom, new school and friends some of them bouncing around campus as per 'med student ' and thinking they have arrived. This is the time some foolish clowns will now join cult and be feeling big thinking the world is at their feet. Quick advise here, medical school doesn't respect cult. Infact most of them fail, never make it past third year. The few ones I know who managed to pass did so by studying well like everybody else not intimidating lecturers, professors and doctors. Sorry for the digression, First year is the only time you'll use grades system (A-F) and a CGPA. So this is your opportunity to pack all the A's you want and get a good CGPA (I'll tell the importance of this later). From your year two, you cease to use that grading system rather we use the pass/fail system.

Let me tell you a secret, each university has a quota of medical students it's supposed to admit yearly. MDCN recently has been getting really serious about enforcing this rule. They have withdrawn accreditation from schools like uniport last year(though they later got it back). I think Uniport didn't admit any new medical students that year. Also uniben and igbenedion I think also had the same problem. Schools are struggling real hard to cut down on the number of students they have in each class in order to maintain accreditation. What medical schools do is over-enroll students more than their quota (obviously for the money) then impose very strict year one rules/targets to weed out alot of people

Some schools say, If you fail one core course you withdraw from medicine and/or change to another course, others maybe set the limit more than two you withdraw, some say have a GPA of 3.8 or so else you withdraw. I'm saying all this so you'll be on the look out and not be caught unawares. Just find out what the conditions are in your school for first year and try to adjust accordingly (if you're lucky your school might not have such strict policies, but know it's becoming common place now that MDCN is not smiling) . During my first year, it wasn't this strict although if you failed more than two core courses you'll be asked to withdraw. Now it's even more stringent. It'll be painful after struggling for admission to be told to withdraw just in year 1 (well, I guess it's not as painful as colleagues of mine told to withdraw at 500L after spending close to 6 years in med school ).

This is a link to MDCN website showing accredited medical schools and their quota http://www.mdcnigeria.org/Approved quota for Medical and Dental Schoos.htm . Most schools have 50, 75, 100 student slots, UNN, Unimaid, Unilag and Ilorin have 150, UI has 180. If you check your school and you see quota is 100 students then you look at your class and count that you're 220, mehn, be very afraid because your school will look for scapegoats to cut down by all means. Note if you see 50, it simply means by MDCN rules your school is not supposed to "ideally" have more than 50 students in EVERY (bar repeat students I think?)

I repeat again, don't enter 'one chance' o, try your best to pass all your year 1 courses. They are really easy. Another secret, no lecturer will set for exam what he hasn't taught you. It's really rare I tell you. Don't mind all the horror stories they told you about UNI beforehand. Honestly I've asked around and most people have told me most lecturers set what they have taught or mentioned to go read or assignments given.(in the last professional exam I wrote, one of the essay questions was an assignment given to us, silly me I didn't do that assignment had to manufacture few things from residual knowledge lol) So you don't have to cram the whole text book. Read what your lecturer has taught in class, photocopy notes(from serious students) if you can't write and read them. Please please, READ your NOTES Well before you use textbook to consolidate. The lecturer is not a clown, he took time to prepare that note/lecture and knows why he's giving you. 85% of the time that's where your exams are coming from.

I had people in my first year who loved reading OP (off point) in textbooks. Read note, they won't, na to go they do oversabi. Needless to say, they didn't make it. Don't get me wrong o, not saying you shouldn't read texts, but do so with wisdom and let your notes guide you.

I don tire to type for now, hope my long rant makes sense to someone. Other guys who have passed and scaled through year 1 can add more to this or modify it. A contribution from Lagusta will also be of great help too. If I remember any more things for year 1 I'll add to this, right now my brain don freeze. Ask any questions I'll gladly clarify.

Moving on, for your year two you start pre-clinicals. .............to be continued ..

.

maybe the police should have used pankere (cane) to apprehend the armed with SMG robber. Please sir why don't you Join the Police force so you can help them apprehend dare devil armed bandits with koboko alone. Its very easy to sit in your house and misyarn abi? kokosheen: I don't think you've been in situations where a lot of human blood has thickened, because the smell is something else and I'm not talking about blood in hospitals (hospitals generally have disinfectant smell so won't notice the blood smell).

Ones elation at the police getting the bad guys would quickly evaporate after a few days, especially if you come home late at night and need to pick up your suitcase or laptop bag from the back of your vehicle, the picture of a bullet ridden body dropping blood over the rug would always play in your mind.

These memories would remain strong, which is what I'm talking about. Anyways, that's my opinion sha, we're all different so what doesn't go down with me, might actually be your fancy wink
brother its nothing a good washout with disinfectant and maybe colour bleach won't fix. Your car will be as good as new, and the robber is still as dead as stone. Infact for effect you can buy new car spray perfumes and give your car that nice wonderful smell.

kokosheen: I don't know how happy the owner of the SUV would feel about the police using his vehicle as a hearse embarassed.

Before he can get the blood and that blood smell off the car, serious work. Most likely the vehicle would be on nairaland auto section next week at one crazy giveaway price.

Good job to the Muthar-fricking Police (I still hate'em though)...
don't be too quick to assume. After a useless guy pointed a scary looking machine gun at you, threatens your life ,physically assaulted you, dispossessed you of 20K and your phones, insults you, slaps you on the face like you're vermin, throws you on the ground like an ant, forces you car keys away from you and forcefully takes away your multi-million naira SUV. Mehn, seeing the basterd dead in your boot can only bring you satisfaction and joy.

I bought it in naija around 700k but it should be a bit lesser than that now.
