olopan: In my opinion, Yes!
The risk is high if it goes through the panels to the ground. Thanks for your responses so far, but I don't understand this your statement bolded. When is it likely to go through the panel to the ground? Is it without grounding or with grounding? |

olopan: A lightning arrestor or trident install at the highest point on a property to be protected with a very low path of resistance to the ground.
This is to allow for a point where lightning can go instead of through your house as that one nah fire or die sef
Ideally, PV shouldn't but if it is grounded, with no lightning arrestor close by, it could be an attractor of lightning at times. Does it mean it's better not to ground it if there's no arrestor close by? |

durodee: Kool temper, I be user no be dealer. Not all inverter users can buy premium. I buy and use inverters based on how much it costs to provide service for me. If I buy an inverter for 600k and it lasts 6 years and I buy another one for 200k and it lasts 2 years, then I cannot see the superiority of one over the other. From the business end, I will go for the 200k one and preserve my cash flow. That is me sha. You be better business man, I agree with you on this, but on the other side, just go for 600k own, because after 2 years that 200k inverter go don turn to 380k. |

kristien4: Thanks bro. The thing is i upgraded my panels yesterday.. 6pieces 580w solar panel. 2 panels connected in series into 3 places. Thats 2_2_2 in series, all paralled together. I just put it under heavy load. My growatt charge controller displayed 2730watts pv input.. 18amps pv and 90v pv. Its a 48v inverter... 4 pieces 12v LA battery is series.. Each panel 51v 13amps 580w. Just wanted to be sure its working fine. Under the heavy load, pv input amps stays at 18amps, While batt says 43amps. Was thinking the pv amps would get to 30amps and above or something. I should just believe everything is fine since I'm getting 2730watts from 3480w panel on heavy load. As early as when does your CC starts charging and when does it stop charging based on this your 2s3p configuration? |

Please note that a DC SPD cannot protect you from a direct strike but rather the EMI derivative of the lightning strike at some distance close to you. Boss, what can then protect one from direct strike? Does pv attract lightening? |

Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by TechGeek777: 8:50pm On Jan 28, 2024 |
kristien4: Ipower 5kva inverter. But i used an external charge controller...120amps, 150v VOC. Please how will 3s2p give me better production..?? Is it the iPowerPlus 5kva with 150v or 450v? Your pv will start to charge early and sleep late and that will increase the production. But DON'T try that oh since your panel has 51.02 Voc. 3s2p will damage your CC if you use the right wire guage because the Growatt 120A CC you bought from Gennex is Max 150 VOC. |

If not for the Max "PV Open Circuit Voltage" of your CC which is 150v, 3s2p configuration would have given you better production. |

JoeSef0: Just installed if for someone yesterday. This is my first using it also. Customer wanted a 2kva inverter on 12v, the sms inverter was the only one i could find in the market. I was gonna go for kartel 2kva 12v inverter. But i could only find the 24v in the market.. Are you the one that installed this inverter for customer? |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by TechGeek777: 2:56pm On Jan 26, 2024 |
JoeSef0: Thanks for the input everyone. After charging the battery well with AC and PV... I finally turned of NEPA and run the freezer... It powered it and when the load settled. I turned on all the other loads and the total was just 11-13% load. Out of the total 2kva. So i think everything is good now What is your PV capacity? |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by TechGeek777: 11:59am On Jan 26, 2024 |
isangjohnson: In the first place, he's not even supposed to power that load on the 12v battery except with a higher capacity like 12v 230ah or 280ah. Powering it with sufficient pv during the day is always recommended Boss you just ignore my message for backyard, no be so oh! |

JoeSef0: Good day boses I just installed this 12v 2kva Sms sunmate Hybrid inverter. Owner has a cheat freezer of 105w. My concern now is, the inverter couldn't power the freezer even while all other loads are off. I know freezer has an higher startup current, i just thought the 2kva will be enough to power it.
My question is, what size of inverter will be recomendable for that size of freezer? You are the first person I have seen here using this inverter. What's the idle consumption? |

Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by TechGeek777: 9:58pm On Jan 21, 2024 |
adrusa: Yes, both statements are correct. The charge controller itself does not show accumulated KWh, but when you use the available python codes to monitor the controller, you can generate the accumulated Kwh. That is what I'm doing. Once you can monitor the instantaneous power, you can programmatically generate accumulated energy. Very clear as ABC. Can this python script also generate daily harvest or instantaneous production for CC like PowMr or Techfine? |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by TechGeek777: 4:06pm On Jan 21, 2024 |
adrusa: The Felicity Charge Controllers are quiet good actually. It is lithium-friendly and appears to be durable. Yes, you can not see how much you generated at the end of the day, but that is a minor annoyance. It works with MPP Solar's MPPTracker and other python programmes to read the data. The picture below is the reading of my 2 Felicity Charge Controllers (FCC1 and FCC2) showing the instantaneous power, current and accumulated yield/day. Nice, in the first bolded above you said daily generated wattage is invisible, and the second bolded you said it shows the accumulated yield per day. Please are both statement not the same thing? Can you please explain more? |

mikeayus: Gennex Technologies are selling it for ₦224,500 and i have been seeing Felicity 100amps for 290k/300k Ignore Felicity CC, as 310k-355k can get you 80A Fangpusun Flexmax depending on your source. Below is a user review about the growatt CC from signaturesolarDOTcom My es5000 inverter was maxed out on solar so I added this. Setup was very similar to my inverters. Device wasn’t too heavy so mounting it myself was easy enough. No issues after 1 month, device has been working great. 1 minor complaint is that I can’t see the individual mppt’s outputs, just total. The other complaint is that this device isn’t supported by solar assistant (not Growatt fault, but something to keep in mind) |
