What is this thing doing on the front page |
LONDON – Until 11:45 p.m. London time on Thursday, Usain Bolt had achieved something even more remarkable than turning the Olympic Stadium track into his own personal drag strip. He'd managed to be the most toweringly arrogant, endlessly cocky, thoroughly likeable guy in sports. Then he nuked Carl Lewis. There went the American vote, Usain. Hope the endorsement deals in Jamaica and Europe stay strong. Bolt's run as the most popular foreign athlete in the United States – maybe ever, or at least in the argument – might have ended abruptly Thursday night. After winning his fifth career Olympic gold medal and second of the London Games, he veered out of his way in the 200-meter news conference to savage Lewis, who merely won nine gold medals for America during his brilliant sprinting-and-jumping career. Them's fightin' words. [ Related: Bolt blasts Lewis after track legend made critical comments ] Bolt was asked about the great sprinters of all time, with the names Jesse Owens and Carl Lewis mentioned. Bolt gave props to Owens then announced, "I'm going to say something controversial." Did he ever. "Carl Lewis, I have no respect for him," Bolt said. "The things he says about the track athletes are very downgrading. I think he's just looking for attention because nobody really talks about him. "I've lost all respect for him. All respect." Bolt was asked what caused him to lose respect for Lewis. "All drug stuff," he responded. Four years ago, when Bolt exploded in Beijing by winning three gold medals, Lewis specifically questioned Bolt's huge time drop in the 100 meters, from 10.03 to 9.69 in the course of a year. "If you don't question that in a sport that has the reputation it has right now, you're a fool," Lewis said. "Period." Back to the present and back to you, Bolt. "For an athlete to be out of the sport and be saying that is really upsetting," he said Thursday night. [ Related: Bolt makes quick work of 200 field for historic double ] Actually, Bolt took a shot at Lewis earlier in the night in the media zone just off the track. There, he was asked a drug-related question that did involve the name "Victor Conte" but did not involve the name "Carl Lewis." Yet Bolt went there on his own. Usain Bolt, center, celebrates before receiving his gold medal for winning the 200. (AP)"It's really amazing when people talk stupid stuff," Bolt said. "Lewis, nobody remembers who he is. … We [the Jamaicans] work hard, we push ourselves to the limit. I shouldn't even have to respond to that." This could be the tipping point for Bolt. A guy with a huge approval rating and the most mesmerizing performer in sports just gave a whole lot of people a fresh reason to appraise him much more critically. There was fresh reason to celebrate Jamaican speed Thursday, and fresh reason to question it. The tiny island nation swept the podium in the 200, with Bolt taking gold, Yohan Blake silver and Warren Weir bronze. That fulfilled Bolt's pre-race marching orders to Weir: "One, two, tree," he said, to accurately quote Weir's Jamaican diction. [Related: Full video coverage of the 2012 Olympic Games in London] One-two-tree, indeed. With the sweep in hand, the announcer at Olympic Stadium spoke the truth: "It's going to be a long night in Kingston tonight." But in London, there were questions to be asked and answered. Blake was asked about a three-month doping suspension in 2009 after testing positive for a stimulant. "In life," Blake said, "you have obstacles." In an epic news conference Freudian slip, an American sports writer mistakenly started a question about the Jamaican track team by referring to the "Jamaican drug team." After the laughter in the room died down, the question was asked: Usain, are you sure your team is clean? "Without a doubt," Bolt said. "We train hard. … We do our best to show the world we are clean." Until going after Lewis, Bolt had shown the world that it's possible to be the world's fastest man, have the world's biggest ego and still be the world's most enjoyable athlete. This is normally a toxic combination. We like our superstars humble – even if the humility is false. We've bred an entire generation of athletes who will throw no-hitters, rack up triple-doubles or score four touchdowns only to blandly chalk it all up to great teammates and good luck. That has become the accepted, recommended and even enforced method of analyzing one's own greatness. Not Bolt. Hell no. [ Related: Bolt's teammate in hot water over $500K watch ] Maybe 20 times Thursday, he referred to himself as a "living legend," after becoming the first sprinter in Olympic history to win the 100 and 200 in consecutive Olympics. He agreed that he is now in the same category as Muhammad Ali and Michael Jordan in the pantheon of global sports icons. He put himself on the same level as Bob Marley in terms of importance to Jamaica. And yet it all worked. Why? Because Bolt is the blazing ambassador of fun. Everything is a laugh with Bolt. Everything is a joke. He is true to Jamaican stereotype in his ability to smile in the face of stress. Best example: Before the 200, with the stadium dripping tension, Bolt looked at the girl volunteer who was in charge of his lane on the track. "You're nervous," he said to her. "Yes," she answered. "Why?" he asked. "I'm so excited!" she responded. "That's the thing I like to do," Bolt explained later. "I'll bump a fist for the person carrying my bag, to show appreciation. I know they're over the moon." [ Photos: 'Living legend' Usain Bolt ] What American athlete would matter-of-factly acknowledge the fact that he or she sends The Common People over the moon? Bolt does it, and it's fine, because that's just who he is. Of course, it's a lot easier to be a character and a showman if you can back it up. When Bolt was introduced to the crowd before the 200, he mimicked the queen's restrained parade wave; that was big-screen gold. Then he smoked Blake, Weir and the rest of the field. Bolt has backed up the bravado every time he's run an Olympic race. He's 5-for-5, with a relay race still to go here. There's nothing worse than a big talker who can't walk the walk. Or, in this case, run the run. Bolt can run the run. But then Usain Bolt, lovable egomaniac, ran outside his lane. At the height of his glory he stooped to petty shots at an American track legend – not a great look for a champion, not a graceful end to a glorious night. Now we'll see what the fallout will be. It's all glory and celebration in Kingston tonight, but how will killing Carl Lewis play in Peoria? Related Olympics coverage on Yahoo! Bastard!I don't really like fashanu as a person but we need to be knowledgeable about things before commenting and not open our mouths like fools. Fashanu did came to Green Eagles camp to play for Nigeria in the 90s but was ignored and treated as an outcast because he had no godfather, not member of the big boss mafia and Nigeria had more than enough stars then. Let's get our facts straight. |
Olufunke Daniel, Obas must be prosecuted – Ogun State Truth commission Mrs. Olufunke Daniel, wife of the former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel has been recommended for prosecution alongside six others that include traditional rulers. Submitting its final report to the governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun today, the chairman of the Ogun State Truth Commission, Hon. Justice Pius O. Aderemi Jsc (Rtd) said it was shown conclusively by the petitions considered by his panel that the seven persons engaged in acts of either political violence, abuse of office or hooliganism. In a recommendation that is likely to have reverberations beyond the boundaries of Ogun State, the panel said, “The proven excesses of Mrs. Olufunke Daniel arose from the widespread abuse of spouses of Governors and Presidents when there is no legal basis for the office of First Lady in Nigeria. The State and Federal Governments should evolve an administrative mechanism that ensures that wives of Governors and Presidents carry out what they perceive to be their duties unobtrusively.” It said that Mrs. Daniel led a group of policemen, government officials and political thugs to the house of one Ambassador Tunde Oladunjoye, the former Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government Council, where she slapped the petitioner and ordered the policemen to beat up Odunaya Rasheed, his Personal Assistant. “It is the view of the Commission that the victim established a prima facie case of criminal offence against Mrs. Olufunke Daniel,” Justice Aderemi said. “Mrs. Olufunke Daniel undoubtedly held herself out as a Public Officer by moving to the Petitioner’s house with armed police escorts and ordering the policemen to beat Mr. Odunaya.” Among others, the panel also recommended: That Akeem Odejimi Ologbowon be prosecuted for the murder of late Gbenga Apolola, whose corpse could not be found as it was allegedly removed by his assailants, and that the Government of Ogun State should compensate Mrs. Apolola to enable her take care of the three children left by the deceased; “With all the force at [its] command,” criminal proceedings against Mr. Saburi Kehinde Ayoade, Baale of Oke-Egan for the murder on January 31, 2011, of one Moshood Bankole in his house at Iloro Street, Ire-Akari, Iroko; The prosecution of Oba Lateef Akanni Adeniran, the Olofin of Ado-Ado, for ordering the kicking, beating and stripping naked of Falana Jaiyeola by anti-riot policemen in his palace, for alleged failure of the victim to pay him (Oba) homage since his installation as an Oba, an order given by the Oba that was carried out in his presence by the policemen; and Criminal proceedings against Mr. Bukola Olopade, aka Ozogula, who was found to have attacked one Ajasa Olayiwola at Car Wash Adatan Area of Abeokuta with thugs and hoodlums and had him beaten with sticks and metals, resulting in bleeding from his head. Justice Aderemi appealed to the government of Senator Amosun to study the report and ensure, in the overall interest of the people of Ogun State, the implementation of its recommendations therein contained, as that would help to stem the tide of political violence, arsons, dispute arising from Chieftaincy Matters, unwarranted murders, abuse of public office etc. “Good and god-fearing governance is a SINE QUA NON to development, stability and growth of any society,” he noted. “We pray that today, Tuesday 7th August 2012 will mark a positive turning point in the life of the citizenry of Ogun State.” In a chilling testimony to the panel on February 22, Mr. Wale Adedayo, a former Chief Press Secretary to then governor Daniel, spoke about intricacies in the use of violence by top government officials and the nation’s security agencies, pointing out that the government often handed out contract killing jobs in the public interest. He said, “A person could be chalked down under the table if those at the highest level of government feel his/her continued life could constitute a greater danger to general public good. We had a situation like that during the first term of Daniel. It was a very difficult decision, but it was taken and carried out nevertheless as it also involved a move to pacify the police.” With specific reference to the task before the Truth Commission, which was to uncover the identities of persons or groups behind the series of orchestrated violence that took place in Ogun State between 2003 and 29, May 2011 and recommend appropriate sanctions, Mr. Adedayo assured the panel it would fail. “Personally, but with due respect, I do not believe you can achieve this,” he stated. |

Will it be for the glory of God or just an academic exercise or for commercial purposes. Some of the things u wrote about the Nigerian pastors and their relationship with Deeper Life is not true. Some were never member of the group. I will like you to know that many people had done many researches on the group for Ph D, masters and other academic papers. I know of a Briton who went around different part of Nigeria to write a book on the church in early 1990s. He was around for about six months. luluosas: Well, as for Abdul-Gafar who Oyedepo denied admissions into Covenant University because he was a Muslim, I think this should be as a result of the fact that, CU is a pure Christian school, which only admits Christians. If this is the case of the school, no religious sentiment should be dragged into this?. @ poSter. Why so judgemental when the story is just a piece of beer parlour tale\ junk journalism. |

Why must everything about Oyedepo make it to the front page. Where are the proofs that he real did all he was accused of. There are muslims in Covenant university and if your subject was not admitted why put it on religion. Why do people just make up stories about others and some gulliable ignoramus jus swallow it all simply they don't like the man. Religion apart there is sibling rivalry and I did not see it writing where the woman was even asking for money. Everybody hav their choice to make and we must not blame others for their relations condition simply because we don't like their lifestyles |
Moderator pls blur this guys face. I seriously recommend this guy to visit MFM for deliverance. He needs to be delivered from household witchcraft and failure at the edge of success. It is a pity |
Complaining that the players are Tokunbos who were trained abroad shows how foolish some people are. One of the reasons the country is not moving forward. The fact remains that these guys are Nigerians and the best around. No sentiment about tribe, religion or quota systems. |
I LOVE THIS FAMILY OF GOD NYSC was the best time of my life and NCCF made it so. God has been rewarding me for my service in NCCF about 10 years ago.Was family house doctor / medical coordinator for my state (IMO - I Must Overcome). NCCF theme song was what attracted my friends and I to the fellowship while in camp. Rural rugged evangelism took me to all corner of Imo State. I am still looking forward to go back to new family house that was under construction during our own service year. @ ALL this is an additional information from another thread. Let us be an unbiased umpire Author Topic: Yar'adua In Near Vegetative State - Oyedepo Aide Reveals- Liberty News, Abuja (Read 169 views) abubaka (m) Yar'adua In Near Vegetative State - Oyedepo Aide Reveals- Liberty News, Abuja « on: Today at 09:48:03 AM » ________________________________________ @all, Unimpeachable facts have emerged for the first time on the true state of President Umar Yar'Adua's health. A close friend of one of the aides to the Presiding Bishop of Living Faith World Outreach Ministries, Dr. David Oyedepo has revealed that contrary to the recent bashing of Bishop David Oyedepo by Nigerians over his non-disclosure of the outcome of his visit to Umar Yar'Adua, the Bishop and other Christian leaders who visited and prayed for the sick president should actually be commended. The aide was alleged to have revealed that reporting what was seen and experienced in Aso rock during the visit of the men of God to Yar'Adua could ignite an unprecedented civil unrest in Nigeria and further consolidate public hatred for the First Lady Mrs. Turai Yar'Adua. The source swore that his friend, the aide to the Bishop heard Dr. Oyedepo praying afterward because he was deeply disturbed over the level of deteriorating in the physical condition of Umar Yar'Adua and that ordinary Nigerians had been right all along when they suggested that Yar'Adua was in a vegetative state. According to the aide, Yar'Adua was said to have been so emaciated and sunken. He was met positioned in near upright state specifically for the visit of the Christian leaders and that it was obvious that he was in serious pain throughout the brief visit. Yar'Adua was described as "positively oblivious of his surrounding and seemed lost most of the time". Before the end of the short prayer, "he had fallen flat on the chair which embarrassed the First Lady. He remained motionless afterward, just lying on the chair without talking or shaking anyone although his eyes remained wide open, but he just stared blank into space". It was also revealed that contrary to the insinuation that the team spent close to 10 minutes with Yar'Adua, they actually spent less than 5 minutes and were told that he had to rest immediately after the second prayer was said by Bishop David Oyedepo. Contrary to the 'grunt' widely credited to Pastor Kure which he allegedly translated to imply an 'amen', the source said that what was uttered was a 'groan' signifying critical level of pain. Our source confirmed that Yar'Adua is indeed alive but in a vegetative state and that the person the Christian leaders saw would definitely not be able to eat or drink as widely reported nor walk or talk. He added that Turai Yar’Adua was the de facto person in charge as she allegedly took control and choreographed the entire visit including 'revealing' to the Christian leaders that the state they saw Yar'Adua was actually an improvement over what he was before then and that she appeared very desperate in wanting them to believe her statement. After leaving Yar'Adua, the men of God were still held up for upward of one hour by Mrs. Turai Yar'Adua in another large visitors' room inside Aso Rock. She was reported to have used the opportunity to tell them the tribulations she has passed through since president Yar'Adua took ill. The source added that it was a very difficult choice for Dr. Oyedepo and the other Christian leaders who unlike their Islamic counterparts were afraid of the wrath of God if they should face Nigerians and lie to them. "Hence, instead of lying to Nigerians, the Christian elders decided to be guided by the word of God in Proverbs 16:21 'The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips' hence their prudent silence". talkmarkay Re: Yar'adua In Near Vegetative State - Oyedepo Aide Reveals- Liberty News, Abuja « #1 on: Today at 10:12:04 AM » ________________________________________Your News have no source.
