Kindly read and advice me accordingly. I will be going straight to the point. Late last year my girlfriend moved in with me and in May we found out that she's pregnant so she and I discussed about it and we concluded that even though things are very rough right that I would go and see her people. Early June I made that trip to Lagos, that's where the family is based and but before I go I have already told them to make the marriage list available so I will know what I'm working with. I got there these people insisted that I must pay 42k for not bringing up wine and I explained that how do they expect me to travel from city to city with up wine and isn't as if I'm paying the bride price today but I have come only to introduce myself and then go home and fix a date that I would come with my people, at the end i paid 20k. Kindly note, going to their home in Lagos was my first time meeting and seeing them and the experience wasn't nice at all. So, they gave me the 3 pages marriage list , the list is one of those that will make every man forget the marriage, Two goats, hot drinks and beer and all in cartons and also 6 gallons of up wine. From my calculation it will cost about 1.4m to buy everything in the list. So now I told my woman and said this list is too much, u and I can barely feed and using 1.4m to go buy drink for your village people will be a very bad thing to do especially in this our present condition. I told her that we will postpone it pending when I have enough money to buy it all unless her family is ready to reduce the list. After a week my woman told me that her family had called the village they say they can convert everything to money and I would just pay and that way it won't cost that much, I was relieved and Immediately fixed August this month to the for marriage. She's from Anambra, now after I have fixed date and inform my family and date is getting close, my woman return from work and told me that her mother said the villagers refused that I must buy everything in the list and they won't accept cash either, I was like una the craze, is your family not aware that you're pregnant? We are both igbo and marriage list have always be suggested to adjustment if the bride family ask for it, only few things in the list belong to kinsmen and the women the majority always belong to the bride family, so I ask what is her family willing to do about the list since it was them that made me fixed date and my woman said she will talk to them. One week after nothing happened and my family told me to relax that day if I do what I have we leave the rest. Yestdy my in-laws called me and my mother in-laws was telling that she contacted a caterer who said she would take 850k to cook for less than 35 guest, she ask for DJ, Decoration, MC, canopy and chairs I told her that we want to do a low key sitting parlour thing no all of these she's asking and she said Nooo people must know that her daughter is getting married ( isn't as if they they are willing to contribute one naira oo or have given me or their daughter one naira for support ) I told her I would call her back and I now ask my woman, this is what your mother just said and I feel you have had that conversation with her before she said yes, Bro I lost it. I started asking my woman, you mean there's a discussion about hiring caterer , DJ, mc, decorations and co yet you refused to tell me, both me, you and your family everybody is broke asf and the least your family could do for us is manage the money I will give them and cook the damn food, she said her mother can't cook because of her eyes, Bro lost it again. Wtf! If she can't cook are they no women in you village that can assist and cook for less than 35 guest ? I'm from Imo state and I will only go with 15 people, what are u talking about caterer and 850k ? At this moment I accused my woman of being behind it and told her she have betrayed my trust and I also told her that if n't that she's pregnant the first experience I had with her family was the day I would've never return there again. The trust is I'm broke very broke and she know it.So yesterday I cancelled the date and since that ystdy she has refused to eat and she's pregnant. I have harden my heart not to beg her to eat because ever since she got pregnant every small thing she will refused to eat in other to hurt the baby and I will pet her but I think I have had enough. Below is the marriage list. Her people also called again asking if I can give them money to buy the drink themselves and that's when I suspected they might be trying to make some money off this thing.
