BTW, RE DSCL PRICE FOR ONE X why buy a $500 for 105K? thats like a 35-40k markup? unit prices, thats gangster profiteering.. smh
I think you're just being mischievous. Considering the fact that the AT&T version was released just a few days ago, it is 100% certain that the version on sale by DSCL is the International Tegra 3 Quad core version which rings in at 450 pounds. That's around N115k

If anything, a Nigerian sale price of N105k is really, really cheap!

Finally, the unlocked AT&T version is sold for around $630 on amazon...N100k

I expect better from you... cheesy

bayooooooo: Stop spreading ignorance!!!

What's the correlation between road and the stupi$dity of incessant strikes? are they being less paid than their counterparts in other states? Afterall, you are in a country where strike is even illegal in most states? People like you should know better than spreading ignorance.

In the first instance, why were the sacked? Do you follow the history of how they have been embarking on unreasonable strikes here and there? Does that make sense to you? Can you be more powerful than your employer? In your opinion, no matter what, the state government should have pander to their interest. The government should recruit young doctors who are ready to work.
'unreasonable strikes'

You see, this is why I tell people that contrary to what their thieving Pastors and Imams tell them, Nigeria will NOT get better any time soon. Even with the horrifying spectre of greedy and demonic leaders, we have a sheepish and foolish populace who still fall for the government propaganda of 'incessant strikes'.

The Doctors in Lagos State have gone on repeated strikes because the Lagos State government has FAILED to implement all the agreements made before. The Doctors have asked for full implementation of CONMESS. Is that really too much to ask? While the Lagos State Government tells you gullible people that Lagos state cannot pay the incremental demands, a simple calculation will tell you all that that is a lie.

Now, we know that 1000 doctors were sacked. Let's assume the incremental demands per doctor boils down to 50K per person. 50,000 * 1000 = 50 million naira. Is this what Lagos State government cannot pay?

Does anyone really think that 175k per month is adequate remuneration for a medical doctor...barely over $1000 per month? And that's before the crippling taxes the doctors are complaining about.

Are we so blind that we do not see the folly in keeping our doctors demotivated and unhappy?

People here say truly IDIOTIC things like 'most of these doctors have their own hospitals'. Which kain hospital will a married doctor build on 175k per month?

The Lagos State government is simply following the script used by the FG in turning the populace against ASUU...enter agreements and fail to honor them, then use their financial clout to inundate the media with stories about 'incessant strikes'. And the foolish people lap it up! How many of you folks know that up until now, GEJ is yet to sign the agreement finalized with ASUU to extend retirement age of lecturers to 70, even after an 'agreement' was reached?

It is said that the average Lagos state doctor sees up to 50 patients daily. How many of you here work that hard in such a risky environment?

alj harem: This Bayooooooo guy is very clever. very very clever, the way he present his argument would win any biased mind in an instance. Very good.

I was also about to lash out on Fashola until I read his post along side saxywale.

Here is my opinion

1. Lagos state doctors are the highest paid in Nigeria

2. If the government keep yielding to their demands, then what happens to other sectors/workers. should they also be striking all the time

3. If they want to threaten the government to pay more despite they are the highest paid in the country by over 100 % then the government needs to sack some so as to increase the salary of others.

In general Nigerian doctors are not paid high at all because we have too many doctors in Nigeria, but demanding to 200 % or so salary more than other states in Nigeria is crazy and should not be encouraged.
Do you mind sharing with us how you came about the following statements

1) Lagos State doctors are the highest paid in the country by over 100%
2) Lagos State doctors are 'demanding 200% salary more than other states in Nigeria'.

I anxiously await your response.

saxywale: Imagine, my relation served in 2010, Ondo state. The state was paying full doctors(that is after house job and NYSC) 90k per month. Compare that with the over 175k house officers earn in Lagos. Things might have changed though. If they are not happy with the wage Lagos pays. then they should resign and seek employment with the federal government.
I struggle with the lack of common sense exhibited in this post.
First of all, 90k was being paid in 2010. We are in 2012 now. Should doctors in Lagos keep quiet just because they may earn more than their counterparts in Ondo state?
The Lagos doctors are using the Federal Government wages as benchmark...is it too much to ask that Lagos State pays them on the same scale as what the (notoriously stingy) Federal Government pays?

I cannot imagine a normal human being being comfortable with a situation where a fully trained medical doctor is being paid 90K a month...yet you want him/her to treat you with all their heart. Does this make sense to you?

Not surprised...too many dumbos in the Lagos State government.

I cannot understand a Government that claims to have 'no money' yet goes out and buys TWO Naval vessels for the Nigerian navy...unsolicited!
The same Government can easily justify making huge payments to contractor cronies, spending crazy sums in celebrating Tinubu's birthday and put aside millions in nigh useless beautification schemes.

This is hilarious, though...definitely the NMA won't take this lying down.

DaLover: The solution is resource control,
The locals should actively participate in the production, selling, refining etc of their crude...

They will not stand aside and watch other steal it,
The FG should find a way to make it official,
That is not the sensible solution. Involving the locals will only add more avenues for theft and mismanagement.

DaLover: Secondly we should stop exporting raw crude, I wonder why we are still doing this?
i'm sorry but this is not an intelligent contribution. How will a country that cannot meet its own internal consumption capacity now start exporting refined crude?
Politics › Re: SHELL Declares Force Majeure On Bonny Light Loadings by texazzpete(m): 8:17am On May 07, 2012
alj harem: first of all, we have to ask ourselves why oil bunkering occur in the shores of Nigeria (Thus small scale)

Lack of employment and poverty which translate to desperation to find a means of livelihood.

Now what is the solution.

1. try to employ as much indigenous people as you can would greatly reduce this bunkering.
How do we achieve that ? By creating jobs

Jobs in the oil field are created by exploration of oil or refining. either one would do.

Although this is a simplistic solution.
There are a limited number of unskilled jobs available in any refinery...how many of these people can you employ?

Secondly, you are WRONG! The biggest reason for oil bunkering is pure, unalloyed GREED! People will always steal when they feel they can get away with it. Hiring a few people to work in a refinery will make absolutely no difference. The allure of cheap crude for sale is too much for someone to leave the oil bunkering biz and start earning 40k a month as an unskilled worker.

1. It would provide Jobs for Niger-delta people thus reducing militancy

2. It would provide an avenue for us to prosecute our citizens that fail to see the suffering of her people.

3. reduce oil bunker.
Can you tell me how a Nigerian refinery would reduce oil bunkering?

ikennahill: NIGERIAN Medical doctors are the most funny creatures i have seen on planet earth. They fight others from growing, using their connection to kill other health care professionals , invariably they are killing health care system in the country ,then they will run and say Govt is killing health. For 9ja medical doctor he is alpha and omega and others are dungs. He want to head professions that have different scheme of service from his, eg pathologists want to be head of medical lab science, Ophthalmologists don't want optometrists to have their own department ,recently they used their evil power to stop the internship programme of optometrist approved in Delta state, but they will soon rot in jail. The same people that want a sane government to pay house officers teaching allowance dont want others to be trained as per internship and did all to stop the internship of optometrists approved by Government in accordance with laws.funny lots.they still fought tooth and nail against the Masters and Ph.D programme of Radiographers and using radiologists. The doctor of pharmacy programme approved by NUC was bitterly fought by medical doctors, they dont want it wetin be their biz with training of optometrist, pharmacist, radiographers, etc nobody fight theirs, that is why they hate optometrists because their degree is doctor of Optometry, they try to run them down but they are the losers .It was a medical Dr who was a perm sec that said that nurses dont need further training, but was busy sending medical officers to irrelevant training. One Medical Dr did Medical statistics abroad and came back and they drafted him to head medical records but medical record officers petitioned and threatened court and so idea was killed .Till date they fight other people from getting hazard allowance, people like accountants, administrators working in the hospital, etc.I ask who come to hospital with Tb na only med drs dey see them, everybody working in hospital is subjected to hazard and they should be paid, govt approved it like that but med drs use the power given to them by an obsolete decree which say they head medical places to fight others.even journal allowance they denied others that have government approval,IMAGINE!

The mother of all these dramas na The National health bill where they removed some professions from the health bill and then drafted a bill that turned others to slave, but thanks God for democracy,if Jonathan had signed it, that will be the end of our already moribund health system.

How can house officers receive teaching allowance ?.who are they teaching? wetin dey know?.what you learn in school is different from practicals, that is why they learn, internship is pure training,ok they teach consultants, ward attendants, themselves, patients, etc. 98% of house officers are empty, the other 2 % are those that read health related courses ,worked in hospital for some years and then decided to go and read medicine as a second first degree. infact NYSC doctors are still in training and they cant be paid teaching allowance.Forget all your argument about treating life ,we all treat life,a pilot treat life, so do different engineers ,also soldiers pay with their life
I have no issue if the NMA fight to keep other medical support personnel from earning on the same salary scale. There has to be a clear distinction between them.
Why not go and complain about the discrimination between University and Polytechnic graduates while you're at it?
Education › Re: Should Lagos State Govt Pay House Officers Teaching Allowance bcause FGN pays it by texazzpete(m): 7:50am On May 06, 2012
hercules07: Doctors need to sit down and look at things strategically, nobody is being paid what he or his job is worth by LASG because the state can not afford such a thing, they can clamor for lower pay for political office holders in the state not higher pay for themselves, the state has many responsibilities, there are some that are one off and others that are recurrent, one off payments should not be used to compare recurrent ones (giving navy boats is one off), in our economy, doctors are fairly well paid. The solution to all of these is to give them fixed term contracts, take them out of the civil service and enforce discipline.
So doctors should be content with a remuneration package that is not commensurate with the amount of work put in? I ask you, have you ever seen a Lagos landlord or a lagos school give a discount to medical doctors before?

onomeasike: if HOs are teaching medical students officially, then I wonder what those paid to teach medical students are doing.I know that goes a long way to tell you the quality of such medical school.
Job hazard?Every job has its own hazard, the risk in health profession is across board, from nurses to med. Lab scientist, pharmacists etc,if it is more for a nigerian doctor,it is likely the penchant for these local doctors to want to do the jobs of every other person which is very common in their private practice and/or poor training that increases the risk of professional errors, especially if you have been unfortunate enough to attend schools like UNTH where HOs teach and profs go on AWOL.
Pay the doctors and the domino effect will take place in the health sector as even intern pharmacists, physios, med. labs, nurses will demand albeit legitimately for teaching allowance.
In sane climes, the HOs are allowed to work under the supervision of a registered doctor throughout the internship period.that they are being loaded with work with little or no supervision while those who are suppose to supervise them work in their private clinic/consultancy is one of the greatest diservice beleaguring the nigerian health sector. The HOs are willing collaborators and that explain why they can not protest.Their seniors are protecting their selfish interest by demanding that HOs be paid teaching allowance because the are scared that the HOs may revolt one day.HOs must insist on being trained by their absentee superiors, proper training is the hallmark of a professional.HOs are not slaves they are just too lily-livered.
Yes! Let the domino effect take place!
it's only when it comes to adequate staff welfare that Governors suddenly realize that 'there is no money'.

all4naija: SAMSUNG Galaxy S III --> Holy Shiit! I am waiting to have it by all means! That spec is damn shiit!

For me it is going to be the best phone of the year, though, they have to work on the life of the battery.
iPhone 5 will most likely blow this out of the water, especially as this year will bring a different design for the iPhone.

The HTC One X looks much better, has an arguably better screen and a better camera. The Galaxy SIII should be a little more powerful than the One X, but not that you'd notice in everyday use.

As far as gaming is concerned, the One X's tegra 3 exclusive games gives it an advantage.

For me, all round the One X is a better phone...

The uodated Galaxy note should come out in time to make use of ARM A15 chips which should make it faster than this one.

There is quite a huge difference from what we're told about the S3 compared to the S2. There are just not the differences that we wanted and you're right the screen is a ridiculous size, so im unlikely to upgrade.[/quote]iphone 4S improved the processor, the GPU and the Camera.

GS III did the same but with an increase in screen size.

See?

The design is polarizing, screen is STILL Pentile and phone is still made of plastic, giving it a less than premium feel.
Phones › Re: Samsung Galaxy S III Will Be Unveiled Today by texazzpete(m): 9:26pm On May 03, 2012
Samsung just shot themselves in the foot here grin

Go over to Engadget comments section and see how the fanboys are going 'meh' over this phone. The same incremental updates that Android users were trolling iPhone 4S buyers with are present in this device. Sure, it's probably the fastest Android phone out now but still...this was underwhelming. The phone doesn't look that good and still makes use of plastic in it outer shell.

I'm so glad I had someone pick up a HTC One X. The one X has a better camera, looks 1000x better, has a screen just as good (if not better) and is a little more pocketable.

4.8 inches is too big for a mainstream phone. Samsung is not going to record anywhere near the same level of sales as the original GS II.

Just as the iPhone 4S did not provide enough value for many iPhone 4 owners (and hence they didn't upgrade), most Galaxy SII owners will likely stick with their existing phones and wait out the next big thing.

chinwe11: Nairalanders, i have some questions oh. I am getting married in August..............my fiance and i are both working, but the house where he is staying now is having some problems, and might fall soon, so the landlord told them all to evacuate so he can renovate. (The rent was expiring in September anyway) My fiance then decided to use part of the money for the wedding to rent a new house for us. The problem now is, after renting the house, he had to do renovations etc, and now the wedding for the money is almost finished to about 20% left. he is now saying shebi i also have money that i should make up the remaining 80%. Please nairalanders what do you think? Is a woman supposed to pay the bulk money for the wedding?

Afterall what plans did he have for rent after the wedding? I told him to borrow money he said no.
Why are people treating you with kid gloves here?

Marriage is supposed to be about two becoming ONE. Does he really NEED to beg you first before you contribute? You want him to take a LOAN to do wedding, go into debt just so you sit on your own stash...

Kai! Instead of giving him the brainless suggestion of taking a loan, why not act as the life companion you're supposed to be and tell him to scale down on the wedding costs instead.

If i had the chance, i'd implore your unfortunate fiance to flee as far away from you as possible. You haven't even married yet and you're showing a far greater affinity for 'tradition' than love and understanding.

ronkebp: I read it well, he does not have enough money yet to marry and pay for the house, it is the same thing we are talking about, bobo yen o ni owo 'igbe-yawo yet. so the marraige ceremony should be postponed. If the lady wants the marraige "at all cost", then she should foot the bill. But am sure in the future, the man will brag about he was not the one that married her, she forced herself on him by paying for the wedding.
As usual, shitty advice...you think the lady wants the wedding postponed indefinitely? Since when did you become pyschic to be 'sure' of what the man will brag about in the future?

I advice the OP to steer clear of people like yourself with terrible, relationship destroying advice.

An easy way to increase the output of doctors is to improve their morale by an improvement in their standard of living and their terms of employment. I posted this in another thred. I'll repost

Doctors have gone on strike repeatedly over failure of the Lagos State government to live up to agreements and solutions agreed on in the past. Before the Lagos State govt was babbling last year about requiring the House to pass the budget before the demands were implemented. Now it's this ridiculous blackmail that's making the rounds.

I don't care to know if it's teaching allowance or not...The Lagos doctors are not demanding anything above what their federal counterparts are receiving. What is so wrong with that? What is so wrong with doctors asking for remuneration commensurate with the years they have put in in terms of education, the risks they face in their workplace (accidental infections, beatings and abuse from irate family members, HIV etc), the late working hours for those on call, the trauma of immersing themselves in blood and gore day in day out. They deserve to be well paid. Foolish people will babble about the doctors' oaths to preserve life...but Nigeria is not a normal country where dedication to that oath will be rewarded.
I have NEVER heard of any Lagos Landlord slashing house rents for medical doctors. I have NEVER heard of Silverbird, Genesis or other big shopping malls/event centres giving doctors a special discount. They pay the same bills as anyone else and thus they share the same need to make as much money as they can to support their families.

The people of Lagos should hold themselves responsible for this in some way. This is the THIRD major strike in 2 years and still they have not yet seen the need to demand for sanity in their leaders. Their leaders can afford all the bravado...they are covered by private hospitals. Lagosians should gather their balls and call their leaders to order. Pending that, let them continue to suffer. Na only suffering dey redeem Nigerians sef.

This is the same way the Government of Nigeria carried out their insidious and brainless campaign of calumny against ASUU, drowning all legitimate demands by ASUU under accusations of selfishness on the part of the lecturers. Now our Universities today are Pathetic!
