Ribadu is not ready for prime time. This may be the best chance for power to be wrested from PDP. It is essential that the SW stands behind Buhari. he seems capable of sweeping the North, if he clinches the SW the presidency is an achievable target for him.

Ribadu doesn't stand much of a chance, sorry to say. Best he throws his weight behind Buhari's ticket and let's take on PDP.

Cars were distributed but to whomm Last year in Lauth with over 300 docs 2 cars were actually given to doctors. The rest went to heads of department like catering, nursing, laundry etc. But on the news what was announced was cars being given to doctors. This year one of the most senior surgeons in Lagos state got a grand gift of a Hyundai Elantra, meanwhile magistrates get 2011 toyota corollas while High court judges get Prado jeeps and take home over 2.5m a month same Lagos.
As for free houses it is during this strike that government is calling some doctors that were kicked out of gov housing about 2 years ago and offering them flats in 1004. Doctors are not demanding cars or free houses, what we are demanding is a fair wage for the workload we bear in lagos state.
Thank you.
This is exactly what i suspected. Give miserly cars to only a few elites (in the hope of influencing them to quell the 'rebellion') and then announcing to the whole world that Lagos doctors are given free cars.
Ditto for the housing issue. These are the hallmarks of an insincere government.

I am not against Fashola, he has done lots of good in Lagos state. But in this issue, the man is falling short.

Hehe

Pay attention to this part
Sanwo-Olu said in response to the doctors’ demands, the government agreed to review the dismissal of Dr. Ibrahim Olaifa; the commencement of the deduction of the Medical Guild’s check-off dues through the Treasury Office and a review of the issue of tax deduction in order to comply with relevant Tax Laws of Government.
So the Fashola administration PROMISED to review the dismissal of this guy, only to say this later

http://www.punchng.com/Articl.aspx?theartic=Art20110224235418
“We are not going to reinstate him (Olaifa) because the moment you subject the authority given by the constitution to blackmail, you are finished.”
So the LSG AGREED to REVIEW this guy's case as part of your compromise with the doctors, only to turn around to refuse to review the case.
Have you seen such liars before?

Tinubu lied about employing Olaifa, lied about Olaifa being a member of PDP. The lies of the Lagos state government isn't helping the situation at all.

It's part of the deal and the state is distributing the cars already. Inability to read and comprehend with lying is a dangerous mix.

Lying is evil my friend,
So let me get this clear.

When you say this
Eko Ile:
You lied that the state didn't give out cars to the doctors, now we have proof that they did.
Do you realize you're insinuating that the state government has already given out cars to the doctors? good.
Now the State Government enters an agreement in November 2010 with the doctors. The net difference is so much that Fashola apparently has to convene an emergency meeting of the EC in February 2011 to ratify the funds. That is what you and Fashola have been saying, that the unplanned expenditure had to be decided by the EC.
Now according to you, funds were miraculously available to the Fashola administration to buy almost 1500 cars in the short space of time between november 2010 and end january 2011 without recourse to the Executive council.
Can't you see how brainless that sounds?

Even if you're a paid thug of the LSG, can't you show some basic honesty and common sense in your arguments? I just showed you convincingly that there was no 75% increase, just the 75% of CONMESS. Even secondary school children will know that 75% of a salary scale is not the same as 75% salary increase. Why are you so daft?!

Why did you expertly dodge the analysis done on the so-called increase in wage bill by 2.5 billion Naira? You can't find any link quoting yet another government flunky to post here, abi?

Now, when are you going to stop your lies? You've been peddling lies since the beginning of this discussion.

I did not say that and Fashola never did. Infact, it's the other way around, the governor convened Extra-Ordinary Executive Council meeting specifically to approve the state's offer and enter it into the state's budget. You are a liar. I don't even have to post any of these facts, I'm posting them because you have no clue or any understanding about what you are arguing about. You can not articulate anything beyond the same conmmess nonsense you've been yelling.
In your own words

Eko Ile:
An agreement was reached late last year, but the money needed to implement the new pay structure was not part of the 2010 budget and by law, the state can not spend what's not part of the budget.

So, the state approved and entered the new pay structure into the new budget for 2011 just early this month and their paychecks by march should reflect the new pay structure.
Basically, your own words are in agreement with my question; why didn't he approve the parts of the agreement that did not require the participation of the Executive Council? What happened to the tax review and Dr. Olaifa?
Answer the questions instead of diversionary tactics!

Eko Ile:
According to the rest of the world, it's 75% pay increase--
'rest of the world', eh?

http://www.nigeriannewsservice.com/nns-news-archive/headlines/lagos-approves-75-conmess-for-doctors
In a statement, Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Mr. Jide Sanwo-Olu said: “Having painstakingly examined the issue, His Excellency has directed in line with the newly approved pay policy of the state, an implementation of an increase in the salaries and allowances of medical/dental officers in the state public service to an amount equivalent to about 75per cent of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure in order to prevent further loss of lives and protect the welfare of the citizens of the state.”
The 75% CONMESS story even appeared on Fashola's site. It's been removed, but you can view it via Google cache

The Lagos state government claims it will need an extra 2.5Billion a month to pay doctors CONMESS  (Check http://www.lagosstateministryofhealth.com/news_article.php?article_id=145)
they also admit there are about 1500 doctors in Lagos state employment. The actual figures as of December were actually less than 1200, but let us use their figures. 2500000000 divided by 1500 by my calculater is 1,666,666 that is 1.7 million average extra per doctor. Now lets do another calculation, Governemnet says they are ready to increase consultants salaries by 400K. So lets asume all doctors in Lagos state employment are consultants that is 400,000 multiplied by 1500 . What my calculator gets is 600,000,000.  the difference between 600K and 2.5billion is  huh huh And this figuer is an exageration because less than 10 % of doctors are consultants and even for the consultants most will not get a salary increament that large. When the commisioner is ready to lie like this in the name of propaganda what other lies do you think he is telling the public.
Your calculation is wrong.

I keep warning this Eko Ile fellow to embrace honesty but he has refused to repent! See the blatant lie he posted just now

Eko Ile:
What may be considered as news is the fact that the State Government after much pressures and deliberations from concerned stakeholders finally offered their olive branch in the form of a perceived 75 per cent increases in wages for the medical personnel in the state.
The State Government offered the doctors 75% of CONMESS, not aq 75% salary increase. Eko Ile knows this. So why is he deliberately posting falsehood here?

Eko Ile:

In addition, the state government also agreed to review the dismissal of Dr. Ibrahim Olaifa former Chairman of the State Medical Guild who was dismissed in the heat of crises, and to commence deduction of the Guild’s check_off dues through the state Treasury Office as well as review  the issue of tax deduction in order to comply with relevant Tax Laws of Government.
Now, Eko Ile's main argument is that Fashola could not implement the agreement because he needed the Executive Council to approve funds. So why didn't he honour the parts of the agreement that had to do with Dr. Olaifa and the review of the excessive tax deductions?

Mr. Man, why the lies na? You have been saying that Lagos State government provides free cars and housing to doctors are part of their conditions of service. Now all of a sudden it is a new package that was agreed on just last November.
So now we are agreed that the doctors have not been receiving any of that largess you have been trolling this forum with, are you still surprised that these docs would rather receive their full entitlement (on par with their counterparts in LUTH) instead of the promises of mythical cars and houses.
Please stop quoting these government flunkies as 'proof'.

Here's what a doctor has to say
According to chairman, Medical Guild, Dr. Bode Williams, the decision to begin an indefinite strike was due to the insincerity and distrust of government to honour its promise after it fooled the doctors to suspend the 14 weeks strike last November because it said then that it was coming out with a good package that would surpass the CONMESS we were asking her to pay.
Now Fashola claims he convened a meeting of the Executive Council to approve the new agreement on Feb 3rd. So why are the doctors still on strike? Where is the public release from the state government detailing all the agreements reached?

Whatever anyone says, we have more traders and opportunists in the medical profession these days than in the days of yore. A doctor truly committed to his hippocratic oath would be concerned about the precious lives being wasted because of naira and kobo. This morning in the papers, TUC and NLC are threatening the FG over minimum wage. They asked for N52k last year. Govt set up a tripartite committee to negotiate. They dragged the issue until labour eventually accepted N18,000 because according to the NLC president, they were interested in the growth of the economy of the country and were reluctant to grind it to a halt. Today, that agreement has not been honoured, and that is why they are threatening to call out workers if the agreement is not implemented across the country. Fact remains that with the exception of political office holders, everyone in govt employ is underpaid. The struggle to get due payment for service rendered is not won in one fell swoop. You will concede ground and the other party will concede ground. The current leadership of the doctors in Lagos state employ belong in Idumota, where they can sell spare parts and make millions in one fell swoop!
And the flip side of the coin: A Governor truly concerned about his citizens would not allow this situation to linger on. Fashola himself swore an oath to protect the lives and properties of Lagosians. Is that how he is living up to it?
Doctors know something you don't know; you cannot present your Hippocratic oath paper to your landlord in lieu of rent. You cannot use it to buy land in Ikorodu, neither will the car dealers in Berger sell cars cheaply to you because you are a doctor.
So yes, sneer about 'Naira and Kobo'. Everything in Nigeria runs on those two items. The average doctor puts in exceptionally long hours, sees tens of patients daily and is forced to deal with the stress and trauma of a very demanding profession. They deserve every penny they get and more!

Let Lagosians find their voices and express their displeasure to their Governor. Last year the strike went on for months before Fashola settled. Did Lagos state go broke then?

OK lets get academic with this jailbreak  cool . . .

From the article "4. The New (western styled) video game retailers, who are dependent on PS3 sales becuase of its “unbreakable security”: Replay NG, Omagames and Kalahari games (plus some new Project GX guys that were just about to commence) might suffer greatly from this development. The truth is this might spell the death of this legit sector trying to find its path."

I posit that the jailbreak will be of minimal impact on the sales of the game sellers listed above. I say this because the jailbreak for it to be used successfully - i.e. to be enjoyed - will require a large (or decent) selection of games, something that goes beyond the collection of the neighborhood boys, something that only the game sellers have. True, the jailbreak frees gamers from the constraint of playing games with the physical discs present in their consoles, but the gamers still have to 'acquire' the discs to copy them - at least the first lenders still need to.
There is still a vibrant used games market which I believe the mentioned retailers have a part in. The jail-breakers will need this market to thrive because it will be the best source to stock up ones library/collection.

"We will have spin-offs and Nigerian versions of the flash-drive hack. Trust Alaba.
"

Really? I wonder what the Nigerian version of the jailbreak can possibly be.
Wrong on all counts.

First of all you don't need the dongle anymore. Now all it takes is 25 mins and the traders in Alaba will hack your PS3 for you in no time
Secondly, all the major new games are there. As we speak, people are plunking down 1000 naira for KillZone 3 and Dead Space 2. Marvel vs Capcom 3 is a 3GB download, can easily be downloaded in 2 days with a fast Starcomms connection.

The jailbreak will be of minimal impact to Sony's bottom line anyway. Using it means no PSN access, something many gamers require.
The Nigerian game market is pretty negligible anyway.

I have little sympathy for these game retailers in Nigeria , selling $60 games for 16,000 naira.

I have explained in another thread why the agreement has not been implemented, the agreement was in 2010 and was not included in the 2010 budget, the agreement was included in the 2011 budget that has just been passed, the doctors will be paid the agree rate when next their salary is paid, if they are not paid then they have a reason to go on strike.
So now we agree that doctors can legitimately go on strike to press for their demands abi?
The State Government agreed to implement all the new agreement in January 2011. They defaulted. Who will we blame if not Fashola? All this talk about budget being passed in February is just smoke and mirrors. Why didn't he specify February 2011 instead?
Also as i've said before, the increased salary is not all this strike is about.

hercules07:
Texas why should doctors taxes be different from what others on comparable salaries earn?
On the issue of the sacked doctor, if he feels hard done by, he should go to the courts, I have gone to court to compel an employer to pay me what he owed.

This is a bare faced lie, bros. The strike is about non-implementation of the agreement reached between Fashola and doctors. The agreement included a review of the excessive taxes the doctors pay, A positive review of the sacking of the doctor and implementation of CONMESS.
The Fashola administration reneged on the agreement and thus should be held responsible for the travails of Lagosians.

You spend this whole time arguing over a matter you do not fully understand. How can you rely on the words of Eko Ile, a paid agent of the Lagos state govt?

I am arguing on the side of truth and common sense. Ekiti pays their doctors 100% CONMESS, why can't Lagos do the same? The wage bill will be much higher in Lagos (because there are more doctors) but that is the price you have to pay for having a large population.

I can hardly fault Tinubu on this one. If the guys are being offered N300,000 for young doctors and N700,000 for consultants, that is good enough for omoluwabi. They should not be greedy. How much are other professionals working for the same govt get paid monthly?
My good fellow, not even Fashola claimed to pay doctors 300K a month. Where did you manufacture that figure from?
Please be honest in your contributions!

Tokotaya:
And as for the person sacked, if you are a doctor and you are calling people out on strike in one state and contesting for political post in another state under another party, you should not be surprised if people suspect your motive. This is no longer purely a professional matter.
What a man does with his spare time is his own business. It should not concern Tinubu or Fashola if the man is running for office anywhere else. What should concern his employers is his performance in his assigned job.
Sacking the fellow for calling out people on strike is rightly seen as victimisation, and his re-instatement was one of the conditions put forward by the striking doctors. Refusing to review his dismissal (contrary to indications made to the doctors last year) is rightly seen by the striking doctors as a decision taken in bad faith.

If he was caught stealing money, sack him. if you say you sacked him for leading the strike, that is another matter. But even mentioning the fact that he was running for office in another state is rather silly. Good thing Fashola has stated that he does not plan to listen to Tinubu's poor advice in this matter.

@deer

Using your conversion rate, the doctors are still earning far less than their lagos counterparts, and I have not seen them holding their government to ransom
I don't see what point you people are making here. But let's play your game.

The newly negotiated minimum wage for Ghanian workers is 3.73 cedis per day.
For a standard month (assuming 22 work days), total minimum wage per month is 22 x 3.73 = 82 cedis.
82 cedis is 54 US Dollars = 8,400 Naira

Minimum monthly wage in Ghana is therefore around 8,400 Naira.

Minimum monthly wage in Nigeria is approx 18,000 naira, more than double that of Ghana

Therefore, according to @hercules07 and @Eko Ile (who insist on a harebrained direct comparison), Nigerian civil servants were demanding (and are now paid) more than double that of their counterparts in Ghana and are thus greedy, overpaid and shameless bastards!
