And before you come up with the usual talk about lies that you are yet to back up with your own fact, produce any proof from the doctors saying the state did not offer them what's in the quote above. This is what the state is offering, you produce your own proof by the doctors stating that the state did not offer such.

I don't want to hear any hearsay about I have a doctor friend who is getting this or is not getting that, jus proof from the doctors union disputing what the state offered as of feb' 2011.
*sigh*
I ask you to provide proof that Fashola is actually distributing cars and houses to doctors as he stated and all you do is to quote the same statement by Fashola?
Why, Lord? Why am i always assailed by the numbskulls on Nairaland? Is the pay from Lagos State government so much that Eko Ile cannot reason again?
Shebi you've seen several people come here to challenge you on the same point. Where are the cars and houses?

Instead of explaining why the State govt defaulted on their side of the agreement, you're here talking foolishly (as usual).

Thank God i posted a link showing the position of the NMA with regards to strikes on CONMESS. See how the SDMP fellow in Lagos is telling lies. See, this is why we should not trust politicians.

@ POSTER,

haven read all the comment of ppl/NL Contribution and comment below is my remarks,

(A) some pple believe that Government should go and brake bank or take a loan to pay Doctor salary
i thinks the doctor are being greedy, out of all the civil service. doctor pay is the highest exept for Governor that salary is close to 850k per month.Dr collect btw 120k  to 700k with other fringe benefit, yet they are not satisfy they want Fashola to go and brake bank or use all the monthly tax payer money to pay there salary without meaninful developement forgetting that the man is a SAN he will never sign aggreement that he can not fulfil,
come to think of it , if Teacher, lecturer, farmer, state police, NURTW, etc, go on strike because, Government did not meet there full demand so the state economy should be truncated ? it high time we call a spade a spade, any Doctor that is not ready to work should be relief of his job and pay off as soon as the strike is over .cos the same Dr will come back after 2-3yr to demand for another 100% pay rise, (now that the salary has been increase by 75%)
i cant imaging when my salary was increase last, execpt when i left KPMG to Deliotte and now in Oil and gas coy, i get salary increament as soon as am ready to move to other coy ( because of the Nigeria economy employer are investing/paying more on electricity and other overhead expenses) , Dr should learn how to make there demand know to their emplyer rather than resulting in avoidable strike that capable of taken humans life un necessarly, enof is enof, eko oni baje,
You were in KPMG? With this atrocious spelling and grammar? Yeah, right.
Please go and collect back your school fees from whatever school you attended. This is beyond shameful. Even in JSS1 i could do far better than this.

Fabulous E:
NIGERIAN DOCTORS ARE HARTLESS,IMAGINE SUCH A STATEMENT THAT THEY ARE UNPERTURBED, NEITHER ARE THEY MOVED BY THE OUTCOME OF THEIR STRIKE. " MAY GOD LORD ALMIGHTY STRIKE THEIR FAMILIES WITH ILLNESS THAT THEY THEMSELVES CANNOT BE REMEDIED FROM" IN JESUS NAME. AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SINCE THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THE GRAVITY OF THEIR STRIKE TO THE NEEDY IN THE VARIOUS HOSPITALS OF GOVERNMENT.
You're only marginally better. Where do you people come from anyway? Are we seeing an influx of area boys on Nairaland?

Where in the world does government or its parastatals invent anything? This is typical of Nigeria's government trying to do what they are not best placed to do. They would get better result if they give research grants to scientists with viable projects like NASA or the National Science Foundation does.

What makes people think an invention by the Nigerian government will compete with similar inventions driven by the private initiative and enterprise of
individuals or companies? It baffles me why our government think they should be the one doing things that citizens of other countries do for themselves.

BTW, when are they going to "invent" our own MP3, bluetooth, microchips, smartphones etc? The issue is inventions arise from the necessities of individuals and not by a government parastatal.
Don't mind them. They killed the Universities and are now here to talk crap.

Homeless palestinians are building and firing missiles and rockets and our space research agency is yet to even launch anything better than glorified fireworks.
Some people should be fired for this stupidity.

We really need to get the statistics right , if the arguement by doctors that they are the least paid is anything to go by ,they should check with other professions. Doctors are forgetting that they cant even save lives in isolation, if the infrastructure are not there , security etc , they cant have peace of mind and wont even concentrate on the work. These are common sense thing , except the fight is about what we all dont know , doctors  can work out things with fashola , it is a pity they are not taking good advantage of a good governor like Fashola. imagine what an Alao-akala will do
Unless Alao-Akala can practice medicine, there's nothing he can do to the doctors.
They can afford to intimidate and crush primary school teachers, but it's a different ball game for well educated people who know their own value.
Please take your own advice and use your common sense. Doctors have never said they are the least paid in the civil service, all they want is to be paid the same rate as their counterparts in the Federal Government on the same salary scale they joined in fighting for.

tiwantiwa:
yes everyone knows doctors spent longer hours reading , doing exams , it does not mean it has to translate to bigger money . Doctors are wound up in a world of their own importance and have an entitlement mentality that explains the basic translation of the fact that they save lives , they have to earn more. I will advise that lok for a win-win common ground, take into consideraation the multi-faceted challenges of Lagos state.
Your statements in bold are ludicrous. I suggest you grow a pair of balls and ask your Governor how come 10 poorer states in Nigeria can afford to meet the demands of the doctors without whining.
'Self importance'? If na self-importance, why are Lagosians suffering now? Why is LUTH struggling to cope with the influx of patients?
Thats what I posted last year, but someone ridiculous (cant pinpoint my finger on the person's ID) said something about their salary being too low and bla bla.
Must these doctors strike every year? Wasting lives after lives.
And i remember telling you last year to research carefully before you post.
It's funny you can use 'bla bla' when referring to someone's salary. These people work very hard (seeing upwards of 50 patients per day in some cases). They are not being paid commensurately with their efforts. Why is this something you can sneer at?

They went on strike last year, there was a negotiated settlement. The Lagos State government failed to live up to the terms of the agreement and thus they have withheld their services once more. Why should the doctors receive the blame for this?
This is how the Federal Government destroyed our Universities. they'd agree with ASUU, fail to implement the agreements and then when ASUU goes back on strike, they'd start lamenting on the frequency of strikes. Now our Universities are comatose. Is this really the path we want to follow?

This mindset i quoted below
Praiselive:
Doctors should realize that they are not the only people on earth. they should be considerate. their salary is not too bad. so his strike is unnecessary. they r not there just for money but to save human lives.
is the mark of cowardice. Why should they suffer because 'they are not the only people on earth'? Why should 'not too bad' be a descriptor for someone's salary, not to mention the salary of someone who spends his life steeped in such a cerebral, high risk and sometimes traumatizing profession?

If Lagosians had the balls to confront their 'saintly' governor, this would have been ended last year.

Like I said before, you are not only hopelessly ignorant, you are intellectually lazy. You're here talking about issues you know little or nothing about. You're good at running your mouth, but you have zero clue about what was agreed to between the state  the people you're defending.

Isn't it a common sense thing to have the most basic knowledge if not about the state's offer, but at least about what the people you are defending agreed to and what's part of the agreement they inked with the state.
'Inked'? Wasn't it a point of contention the the state government was reluctant to put down the agreement in a fully signed and agreed document?
But since you're now suddenly focused on agreements, didn't the agreement specify that the proposed agreement from the Lagos State government would commence in January 2011? So what does that make Mr. Fashola who is suddenly talking about Lagos State assembly needing to review bla bla bla in February? Didn't the doctors proceed on strike in early February because your puppetmasters in the Lagos State government failed to live up to the agreement made in November 2010?

Eko Ile:
And if this discussion is heading down the path where you have no basic facts to defend yourself and you have to mix in your unnecessary and immature name calling and parental insults, feel free to leave the discussion or just ignore me, I'm here to debate, not to trade parental insults like elementary school kids. For all those who think that this is a Lagos State problem alone, Doctors will soon go on strike in other states

http://www.myondostate.com/myondostate/newssend.php?id=898
Chairman of the Medical Guild, Dr. Ayobode Williams, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, advised Fashola to assess the situation regarding the strike and their demands and “take the proper decision”.

Besides, the former Chairman of the Guild, Dr. Ibrahim Olaifa, who was sacked for allegedly granting a press interview, has accused Tinubu of telling the public lies.

The Medical Guild is the association of doctors employed by the state government.
It comprises members of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), medical consultants and other categories of doctors in the state.

Olaifa said the state government knows what to do about his reinstatement and consequently resolve the crisis created by the “illegal sack”.

Williams told the Nigerian Compass that the comments credited to Tinubu was just an advice, adding that the congress of the Medical Guild will meet on Monday to assess the situation and decide on the way forward.

Medical doctors in public hospitals in the state had declared an indefinite strike on February 5 over the alleged non- implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Scale (CONMESS), which the government, last November, agreed would be effected from January, this year.

Other demands by the doctors include the payment of arrears from the CONMESS, over-taxation of their salaries and the reinstatement of Olaifa.

However, reacting to Tinubu’s comments, Olaifa denied claims that he was employed during the administration of the ex-governor.

“I was employed in June 1997, while Tinubu became the governor of Lagos State in 1999,” he said, adding: “There is no way he could have employed me”.

Olaifa also denied the claims that he is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but admitted being in politics, saying: “I have no reason to deny that I am in politics. I belong to the Accord Party.”

While accusing Tinubu of insincerity, the former Guild’s boss said: “In the wake of the doctors’ strike in January 2009, Tinubu called me and appealed that I should call off the strike. Another appeal to me to call off the strike came from the former Lagos State governor from Ghana, when he attended the inauguration of President John Atta-Mills. Then, he promised to press the government to address the demands of the doctors. I called off the strike and the government sacked me.”
According to Olaifa, a former Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr. Leke Pitan, had “also accused me that it was the PDP that was sponsoring me regarding the strikes we called to press for our demands. Pitan then alleged that the PDP gave me a house and a car.

“Following the allegations, they investigated the claims and found nothing against me.”
Also reacting to Tinubu’s comments, the Chairman of the State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) ARD, Dr. Olugbenga Oseni, said “based on the fact that Tinubu always calls himself a democrat, it is very uncomplimentary for him to call for the sack of professionals who are demanding for their rights.

“He is supposed to be a democrat. He is not supposed to suggest a method of using force to resolve the crises.”

Besides, Oseni noted the state health facilities lack enough doctors.
Therefore, he reasoned that it would be out of place to demand the sack of those currently providing service.

On fears that Fashola may implement the directive, Oseni said Tinubu’s comment is only an advice, adding that besides, he is not the sitting governor.

The agitation for better pay for doctors has become a national problem, prompting the national body of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to direct all its members across the 36 states to go on strike, if the CONMESS is not implemented in their states.

So far, about 10 states have implemented the CONMESS, said Dr. Edamisan Temiye, Chairman of the NMA, Lagos State Branch.

In Lagos, the government has implemented CONMESS up to 90 per cent, but “compressed” salaries of some categories of medical consultants in a review of the new salary structure it plans to implement.

Doctors in the state have, however, rejected the new salary structure and demanded that the CONMESS be fully implemented.

Temiye described the new structure by the Lagos State Government as shortchanging doctors.
Also, the NMA said there must be 100 per cent implementation of CONMESS before doctors in Lagos will return to work.
So if 10 states can implement CONMESS, why can't Lagos State?
You selfish people want good medical care but are too stingy to pay for it. the Federal Government is paying decent wages as agreed on, why can't the State Governments do the same? If you know you cannot treat your doctors well, why overwork them by starting such grandiose free medical schemes that would task them further?

Medical services are just as important as grand schemes like monorails and high speed trains that Fashola is looking at. The welfare and motivation of Medical Doctors is of extreme importance. Why is this being treated with levity by the Lagos State Government?

You are yet to answer reindeer's question. Which doctors have been given free cars and housing? why would Fashola say such untruths in public?

Thank God the FoI bill is gaining traction, next time any elected official says such lies, we shall be able to disprove them immediately!

The actions of the doctors in Lagos state mark a disturbing degree of callousness and greed. If we may know, is there any other state in the country where doctors get paid as much as what Lagos is offering them? Every right thinking person will expect these bunch to appreciate what the state has offered.
And to think your parents will say their son is educated. You cannot even read what the issues are before talking. Lagos doctors work much harder than their counterparts in Ekiti and earn less. So far, at least 10 other states have approved CONMESS salary scale for their doctors.

It isnt like Libya has deployed its military's air defence systems to intercept and shoot down 'enemy' aircraft or a case of thousands of soldiers having been deployed in a full scale war. What is going on in Libya is street protests with a serious crackdown on the protesters by the evil forces of Gadaffi. What the protesters are doing is a 100 times more impressive than what the British military has done.

The only 'daring' thing the British did is to have flown into Libya probably without air traffic clearance from the Libyans. This is no big deal considering the fact that the French and Germans where doing that all throughout last week in and out of Tripoli Airport.

@evilspirit
The reason Union bank is not like GTB is because of the old and tired workers they have in there who long for the days when they had it easy, people who have refused to reinvent themselves, people who prefer the status quo.
Spoken like someone who is out of touch of the needs of the common man! You've used private clinics for so long, you think the docs in the public clinics can be dispensed of so easily.
Doctors aren't like teachers or tailors that you'll be talking of 'outsourcing'. Outsourcing what exactly? Perhaps you'd send all the hundreds of thousands of sick patients to India? Or you'd import foreign doctors at much greater expense to take care of your citizenry?
I wonder why you people build your argument on doctors making excessive demands when it's been drummed into your heads that all the doctors are asking for is to be paid on the same scale as their counterparts in the Federal Government employment. You people are talking about 'unreasonable demands', you think the notoriously stingy Federal Government would have agreed to an obscene amount to be paid to doctors?
The Federal Government accepts the CONMESS as a reasonable salary scale for Medical doctors in Nigeria. At least 10 other states agree that it is reasonable. Suddenly in Lagos state, what other states and the Federal Government sees as reasonable is suddenly a 'greedy' and 'obscene' sum. As a reasonable human being, don't you smell a rat?

Late last year the striking doctors secured a gentleman's agreement with the State Government by Negotiation and called off their strike. If their demands were unreasonable, why did the state Government agree on a compromise with them?
Now they are striking because the lying Government failed to live up to the agreement. In such a case like this, i would hold the Lagos State Government responsible, not the doctors. They swore an oath to protect lives, so did Fashola. And they owe their families a decent living!

Let fashola pay them what they agreed on last year November, let him take up the actions that he agreed to take instead of all these shameless untruths and misdirection.

And even the new ones will also be unionized. At the end of the day you will still meet them over a negotiation table.

All these lies from the State government is not helping the situation. Exaggerating the salary the elite doctors (with decades of experience) earn to deceive the masses is not good governance. Most of those making daft comments here will be the first to make glib claims that corruption is a big problem in the country, yet they wish to remain lawless. Lawlessness breeds corruption.

This is an extract from a BBC article on tinting in the UK where you get pulled over for having the slightest tint (compared to what obtains in Nigeria):

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/6707873.stm
Yeah right.
The BBC report calls out vehicle with the front windscreens being tinted. A lot of modern SUVs these days leave the front clear and the middle and rear windows tinted. In Nigeria the law makes no exemption for cars with tints only on rear windows.
Then you have the Nigerian Police, a force that is staffed with barely literate people. They have a long history of deliberately misinterpreting laws for their own benefit. Why then should we jubilate at this imbecilic law?

Thank God you mention 'excessively tinted glass'. This new 'law' makes no mention of excessive tint. Only 'tint'. Try and explain to a hungry cop that your tint allows 75% of the light to pass through and see how sympathetic he is to your complaints. Nonsense.

PS: I'm surprised you haven't yet dug up some links to reinforce your claims of free cars handed over to every one of the > 1000 lagos state doctors. We are still waiting o!

@LargerandDAFT

U are a bumbling ediot for u not to know that the fact that these doctors spent 10 years in school or are professionals doesnt give them a right to hold the Govt or the people by the jugular . . .what are they even fighting for ? Reinstatement of someone that should have honorably resigned his appointment before contesting public office in another state ? are u dis daft ? Yes u must be!

where have u seen a dead battery jumpstart anything . . .I guess your impotence is what u are talking about EDIOT OF INORDINATE PROPORTIONS!  grin

The people that should be complaining are the people that sweep our roads, the highway managers not these people that have already been overpampered  . . .like someone said let them go and work under aN OGD govt, dem go know say Fashola no get equal  tongue

For crying out loud, these people are just using CONMESS to hold the state to ransom, the good-naturedness of BRF is what they are exploiting, they wouldnt have done same with Tinubu and only a fool will argue that it wasnt Tinubu that made it attractive for these doctors to really want to work with government in recent times . . .do these internet tigers know that ?  undecided for all the wrong Tinubu has/might have committed there are certain things u cant take away from him . . .lets cut ourselves some slack from always seeing wrong in others  cool
'Overpampered'?
Forget what fashola said, have you spoken to any of these doctors before? Do you really have a fair idea on the challenges many of them face?

LMAO at your comments on Tinubu. Unless Tinubu wants to start treating the patients himself, he will still negotiate!
CONMESS did not hold Ekiti State to ransom. It did not hold Delta State to ransom. It did not hold 11 other states to ransom. It is now Lagos that is being held to ransom abi?

Fashola should just hand over the state treasury to the doctors When they are already earning more than anyone else in the country
Yes o! This is the same way we sneered at ASUU when they made their demands for better treatment. Now look what is happening to our Educational sector. A country that is dependent on Oil and Gas for over 85% of our income and yet only 3 active Professors of Petroleum Engineering in Nigeria. Schools are losing accreditation at every turn, haf-baked graduates are being churned out daily.
So yes, let's gloss over all the issues. Nonsense.

rasputinn:
On this occasion,I agree with Tinubu, those so-called doctors are shameless, ungrateful, heartless and wicked
Useless bunch,is it by force to work for LASG,let them go work for the FG or better still in Baghdad,I think they'll earn more there
it is also not by force that the huge population in Lagos should descend upon the state hospitals. Let them go to Private clinics!!
Doctors should be 'ungrateful' for being paid less than what their counterparts in the Federal Government earn, even after they did most of the fighting for the CONMESS salary scale. By all mean, agree with Tinubu! As if the man will ever set foot in a State hospital. When push comes to the shove, Tinubu will be relaxing in a private ward in an exclusive private clinic while your likes will make do with a crowded public clinic with overworked and overstressed doctors.

Eko Ile:
Are you talking about the same doctors in Lagos state with free cars, free housing and health care or some imaginary doctors you made up?

If you're talking about Lagos state, then your write up remains irrelevant and ill informed. Get your facts right.

Lagos doctors don't ride Okada, they have free cars courtesy of the same Lagos state government.
Which free cars? Abeg stop quoting what Fashola said, the doctors on ground that are forced to board Okada everyday may soon resort to swearing for you.
Since this morning i've called several of my doctor friends in Lagos. They greeted the news with derision grin

This debate has taken a hilarious turn.
It's funny how people get up in arms over tribal sentiments. One would hope that the likes of Demain_man and FACE would happily pick an Innoson motor over a Toyota Camry. One also hopes that they are currently typing on a Zinox laptop (remember say na one of una people get Zinox).

Did I also see someone say prospective owners should check the vehicle manuals for safety test information AFTER making the purchase? grin

FACE:
Do you expect him to have the company's operation/standard procedure on public display just to make you happy ? How do you know that they do not have QC, risk assessment, product review/assessment and health and safety procedure in place ? Why do you not apply the same standard to other car manufacturers who do not have details of their safety checks on the net except for passing comments on their latest technology ?

Why do people talk rubbish all the time rather than keep quiet if they do not know ?

Innoson is a titan and has done very well with his other manufacturing industries including motor cycle assembly. Of course, his plant and other plants in Nigeria ought to enjoy some form of govt protection and patronage, but I am sure he has his game plan and has simply got on with his money making regardless of what people think.

Someone mentioned that people might not really know about their products. Valid point in my opinion and I think they should invest in adverts (NTA, live footy, etc) and also make their website to be dynamic to enable people get good information about their products.
Most car manufacturers have critical safety information on their websites. Most of them also have been stress tested by several regulatory bodies and the results are in the public domain.
With Innoson, we have nothing. There is no guarantee for customers that the vehicles will not crumple like a tin can on impact.
Look, i am all for supporting the local industry as much as possible, but i'm far more passionate about optimal use of taxpayers' money.

Funny how Innoson motors is quick to trumpet all the accolades they received from GEJ on their website, but no single information on crash safety tests on their website.

Safety must be given a priority in all vehicle purchases. I suggest the federal Government holds off any purchase from these guys until their vehicles go through rigorous testing.

I still think its a scam --- scammers go to any lengths to obtain money for their girlfriends/show off.
Think of things this way:
If this is a scam, you've helped save some people from being duped.

But if it isn't a scam, you've helped impede efforts to save this woman from an untimely death.
you'd be helping to kill her.

So if you're 100% sure it's a scam, speak. If you're just assuming, please be guided.
