We have too many unintelligent people on Nairaland. There is no concrete evidence that this was arson yet and people are already talking about 'perpetrators being brought to justice' and mentioning 'boko haram'. Even the daughter who came from a night vigil to see the house in flames is saying it was a bomb. Was she there when it happened? Abeg let us learn the value of an intelligent, measured response AFTER the facts are in. |
@Eko Ile See, was that so hard now? You actually managed to use some of your brains this time. My comments Eko Ile:The cost of kidney transplant can vary wildly from the ultra cheap in India to the crazy expensive. With no hard data, there's no harm in here making a reasonable assumption with the quoted figure as an average. her assumption is even very likely to be pessimistic because kidney transplant ops in India are the cheapest anywhere. According to india4health.com, a kidney transplant op in India costs between $10,000 to $20,000 (inclusive of accomodation and air travel). This is even much less than the 7 million naira quoted. You know why we can make these assumptions? Because there is little transparency from your paymasters. Please show us the website with the breakdown of the alleged 300 cases and the amount of taxpayers' money used. You talk with derision about 'assumptions' whereas almost all your posts have contained the assumption that the state legislators are doing a very good job of checking and regulating the monies spent by the Governor. Where are the facts? If we've established that India is the cheapest destination for Kidney transplant and the Lagos State Government allocated N7 million to it for one case, then Jenifa's assumption is even pessimistic! I'm not even going to ask how $20,000 became 7 million naira o! Abi is that detail in the website too? ![]() Eko Ile:So while the Lagos state doctors were on strike over perfectly reasonable demands, Fashola happily let the strike linger on for months. Is ignoring the suffering of hundreds of thousands of the masses part of 'looking after and saving the lives of the people he is administering over'? You have attempted to sound intelligent and I modestly take credit for forcing you to stimulate your stunted grey cells. I appeal to you to come up with a logical argument. I will sift through your usually childish insults and reply to the ones that sound reasonably intelligent. PS: You keep babbling about 'lies'. Where are the lies? |
ogogo24:Why should they add a Nigerian AppStore when no Nigerian carrier carries the iPhone? |
Eko Ile:You're not 'defending your state', you dope. You're defending the politicians ruling your state. There's a huge difference. You care nothing for the ordinary citizen of Lagos State. In this discussion, that has been my role. All you care about is painting a saintly image of your paymasters. Every attempt at constructive criticism is met with demented braying and uncouth language. How do you do your cyber-thuggery anyway? Do you monitor Nairaland, desperately searching for any mention of your master? Or do they do the monitoring themselves, unleashing Eko Ile (formerly babapupa) their pet monkey on our unsuspecting heads once we are found guilty of criticizing them? |
Lexusgs430:Didn't mean any offence. Apologies if it came across that way. Fact of the matter is, i use the best non-touchscreen Blackberry device (Bold 9780). It has 512MB of RAM. yet it still hangs once too often, still sometimes requires a battery pull, still remains sluggish. Is the really the best RIM could do? RIM promised so much with OS 6. So far, it's still not good enough. |
Lexusgs430:We're talking about MARKETSHARE here, buddy. What part of that do you not understand? Isn't that computed using the number of smartphones sold to ALL customers? We're talking about a decline for RIM. If they are losing ground to Android in the consumer market and losing ground in the enterprise market, doesn't that paint a picture of general decline? Didn't you hear how RIM's 'game changer' blackberry Torch launched to seriously underwhelming sales in the US? The chart i pasted is from Gartner, and they are pretty well respected. It clearly shows a decline for RIM from '09 to 2010. If you think GArtner doesn't have an insight into how the ICT market works, kindly mail them and tell them. |
Eko Ile:Lol. You still haven't told us how much you're being paid to be Nairaland's first e-thug. I do not desire to be 'relevant'. Just tell your paymasters to remember that the good people of Lagos must remain 'relevant' always. Fashola is doing a decent job in many areas, he can definitely improve in several areas. As long as butt licking sycophants like you are around to assure everyone of his perfection, i'm afraid his lapses may remain uncorrected. Try to argue intelligently next time, your uncouth braying will upset even your ogas. |
^^^pragmatic my foot! ![]() Yeah. Right. Sure. Once upon a time Nokia delivered great products. In technology years that’s decades ago. Since then, first BlackBerries, then iPhones, and now a variety of Android phones have left Nokia eating their dust. Microsoft, on the other hand, has always been a mobile operating system failure. Unable to squeeze out its enemies on phones with the strong-arm tactics that proved so successful on the desktop, it was forced to compete on features and quality on phones and Microsoft failed, and then failed again, and it’s still failing today with Windows Phone 7. The sad thing is that Windows Phone 7 is, I think, easily the best of all of Microsoft’s attempts to create a mobile operating system. It would have been great in say 2007 when Apple released the iPhone. It would have had a shot if has showed up in 2008 when Google was still struggling to get Android-powered smartphones out the door. But today? Microsoft and Nokia are the edge. We won’t see a shipping Nokia WP7 until the fourth quarter of 2011. By that time, the iPhone 5 will have been out for months; dozens of Android 2.4 phones will be out, and even HP’s webOS phones will be out before Nokia WP7 phones appear. Oh, and Research-in-Motion will have its next generation BlackBerry PlayBook out by then too. Nokia could have done the smart thing and bit the bullet and gone with Android, which would have been much easier to port to Nokia’s hardware. Nokia could have done the brave thing and persisted with trying to make MeeGo into a viable smartphone system. Instead, Nokia’s Microsoft CEO did the Microsoft thing. I’m sure that will help him and his buddies in Redmond, Washington, but it won’t help Nokia at all. Oh, in theory, MeeGo, like Android a Linux-based mobile operating system is still alive and kicking. It’s not. Even before Nokia announced its Microsoft partnership, the company had killed off its N9-00 MeeGo phone even before launching it. MeeGo, unless Intel decides to keep it going, is dead. Nokia will close the coffin lid on it later this year. Look at this way though, thanks to this Microsoft deal, since MeeGo is an open-source project, it may very well live longer than Nokia will. And like i said before somewhere in another thread, Only time will tell!
I'm sorry, but you've confirmed you don't know what you're talking about. Windows Mobile a mobile OS failure? You're kidding, right? After Symbian, Windows Mobile was the next most popular mobile OS on smartphones. For enterprise use, Windows Mobile was the marketleader by a long shot in 2004. I can't see why you didn't get my point. Going with Android would have been a terrible decision by Nokia. They'd never be able to differentiate their phone fully, they'd be locked in an insanely difficult competition with the likes of LG, HTC, Motorola and Samsung. Take a look at the initial reveals from MWC 2011. Can you see how the hype for Motorola's Atrix is already dying? I don't understand your point about 'blackberries left Nokia eating their dust'. Nokia still remains the largest phone maker in the world, well above RIM (4th place). As far as OS is concerned, Nokia's Symbian^3 is miles better than the crappy BB OS. So what exactly did you mean by that comment? |
Lexusgs430:You're way out of touch https://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/02/gartneros-sales-2011.jpg Sorry, bro, but RIM is steadily losing ground. Android is gaining, so is IOS. Enterprise customers are migrating to iOS. Deutsche bank has dumped Blackberry for the iPhone http://www.9to5mac.com/49040/deutsche-bank-analyst-says-theres-no-return-to-blackberry-after-iphone-trial Citigroup and Bank of America are concluding plans to abandon blackberries. Standard Chartered bank is replacing Blackberry with iPhone. The blackberry playbook is no match for the Android Tablets coming out very soon and will also be blitzed by the iPad 2. It's only a matter of time before RIM starts writing their own 'burning platform' memo. |
Eko Ile:I keep calling your IQ into question, and each time you keep proving me right. So strikes by medical doctors has no place in a discussion on healthcare in Lagos State? See the way you dismiss the severe strain ordinary Lagosians are put under as a result of the Fashola inflicted State doctors strike: "They'll work it out". How much are you being paid anyway? jumobi1:He has always been like this, don't fret. it isn't just you. he's no different from any paid thug out there, he's just intelligent enough to use a computer. This is probably the first of many state sponsored cyber-thugs to invade Nairaland. This is one of the most visited sites in Nigeria, you think the Politicians were going to stay away forever? |
Lexusgs430:And I use an iPhone 4 and a Bold 9780. I've used Symbian and WIndows mobile. So i know what i'm talking about. I have dozens of powerful apps on my iPhone. There are only few decent apps on the Bold, and their counterparts on Android and IOS blow 'em out of the water. |
thank God Nokia is more pragmatic than you folk. if they had gone Android, they'd have been toast. See how @na2day and @otumfour are already drooling over the Galaxy S II. By the end of MWC 2011, LG and HTC would have announced ultra-powerful dual core phones. Just 2 months ago you two were drooling about Nexus S. Now if given a choice, will any of you buy the Nexus S over the Galaxy S II? or even the LG Optimus 2X? Or the upcoming 3D Dual core LG phone? If Nokia releases an 'N9' running Android, they'd struggle to differentiate themselves in the crazy Android world. Samsung sold 10 million galaxy S phones in 2010. They won't do that again in 2011. We'd have phones from LG, HTC and Motorola stealing their thunder. |
4llerbuntu:There are only a few phones running Windows Phone 7 out there in the US, many of them with non compelling hardware. How much did Android sell in 2008 when it was only the likes of the G1, HTC Magic etc. As we speak, there are no CDMA Win Phone 7 devices yet. As for the 'elegant' comment, you couldn't be more wrong. The general buzz is that Win Phone 7 is the slickest, most elegant of all the mobile OS out there. Nokia's presence will ensure that Winmo 7 will have great hardware. it'll ensure they get Nokia's Ovi maps. it'll bring more developers to Windows Marketplace. It's a WIN for Microsoft. For Nokia, teaming up with someone is the smartest thing they could have done, the only thing was if it'd be Android or WinMo 7. Would you buy an N8 running Android OS over the Galaxy S II? Meego was always going to be an 'also-ran'. it would have been difficult to get developer support. Forget all the crap about it being 'open source'. See how the N900 sold. Save for hardcore hobbyists, the phone was of little mainstream appeal. Nokia needs mainstream for mass-market. |
Lexusgs430:Any decent smartphone will do far more than that as long as you couple it with a data plan. You people were quite happy to pay 5K a month for BIS, if you pay 5K for 3GB MTN data on a decent Android phone, you're completely set up. The only thing the BB has going for it is BBM. And BBM's value is overrated. See how RIM is losing marketshare in the US and Europe where every smartphone is bundled with a data plan. |
@fstranger3 lol. i'm a big fan of your work here on NL ![]() |
alj harem:Please stick to talking about things you know best (like fulani herdsmen and cows) and leave more intelligent discourse to the more learned. Also see my reply to the last guy. Just FYI, until you've seen overwhelming evidence on seismic or drilled and discovered the oil, you cannot 'assure' on oil. My mention of 'thousands of feet' was just to show how it isn't a precise science. Please consult any honest geologist. |
daddee:The fact that i put the word 'assure' in inverted commas didn't tell you that that word was the reason for my objection? What school did you go to again? Read the bloody article again, if they had found a significant show on seismic, would they have been talking of renewed exploration with more sophisticated equipment? |
oyb:Cope? They are in an extremely critical, extremely cerebral profession. The lives of millions depend on them being able to make the right call, the right decision at all times. They are overworked and underpaid. I cannot imagine having 5 minute conversations with 60 different people in a day, not to talk of TREATING 60 different people. Your 'they are not the only ones' statement is illogical. By that Logic the Egyptian people should have just stayed home, they aren't the only ones under a despot. Nigeria has the highest child mortality rate in Africa. And it's increasing steadily. So because 'they are not the only ones suffering' we should ignore doctors who are a critical cog in the wheel? oyb:They don't want to be 100% on the same level as their peers in the west. they want to be 100% on the same level on their peers in LUTH. Seems like you've been fed misinformation. This is how we sneered and jeered at ASUU when they were on Strike to improve funding to Universities and improve remuneration for lecturers. Now University faculties are losing accreditation like wildfire. My alma-mater UNIBEN (the most populated University in Nigeria, one of the major federal universities) has had the medical school, the Petroleum, Electrical and Chemical Engineering departments lose their accreditation. Every single one of us that has commented on this page is affluent enough to take their kids to private hospitals. That's why we argue like this. |
Tell your beloved Fashola to settle the marginalized state doctors first. People are dying of ordinary malaria because of lack of adequate healthcare. Thank God that Fashola admits that Lagos is overpopulated at 18 million people. When doctors are complaining of sometimes seeing up to 60 patients daily the man seems not to care. 11 other states with less busy doctors have approved CONMESS including the neighbouring (and much poorer) Ekiti state. |
Gbawe:Wasn't it fear for his job that made Ribadu function as Obasanjo's personal lapdog and a collaborator in corruption? |
jensinmi:It is not the job of a Senator or Rep to give out handouts to people. let them just say NO. |
@Topic What the heck is 'Porthacult'?! |
Eko Ile:I expected no less from a paid agent. You've never had the sense to realize that a well thought out argument is more in fitting with your masters wishes instead of your usual shower of insults. Why should i complain to the legislators when they are all part of the ACN mafia/family? I'm surprised you're egging me on to google 'Fashola/Kidney'. We all see the shoddy way hes treating the long-suffering doctors of lagos. We all see how whereas LUTH has 900 doctors under the federal government employ, Lagos State Government employs just over 1000 doctors in hundreds of health care facilities in lagos. We all see how overworked and underpaid these doctors are, and how little your paymaster cares for their plight. Why should we not laugh when he talks about making Lagos state the center for Kidney transplant while the doctors on ground have valid complaints? Lastly, googling up 'Fashola Kidney' brings up this story and also another kidney related intervention for someone in the entertainment business. I guess the Lagos State government sure likes the Entertainment industry, eh? |
Eko Ile:Dude, I don't know how much you're being paid by the Lagos State Government but i'm sure they expect reasonably intelligent arguments from you on their behalf. Thousands of Lagosians need emergency treatment, why single out this man? |
I can only shake my head at some of the comments here. What kind of sheep are these that see nothing wrong in the Governor using Taxpayers' funds to treat a private citizen? If the man is Fashola's favourite actor, let him use his own money. As people have said, what even makes this man's case special? The irony of it all is this Fashola mouthing off about improving the standard of healthcare in Lagos while he turns a blind eye to the welfare of the overworked doctors in his state's employment. Let him explain why his 'progressive state' cannot pay the doctors on the CONMESS salary scale while at least 11 other states have agreed to it. It is these kind of wasteful gestures that gulp lots of the money in Lagos State (inclusive of the huge sums funneled to his godfather and cronies). |
pc guru:Nokia made the smart choice to go with WP7. Symbian is dying and is costing Nokia serious marketshare. Meego wasn't gonna be ripe for release soon and there is no guarantee of mass market adoption. With WP7, Nokia can have a ready made, MODERN mobile OS ready to shove in their phones. They'd save billions of dollars on R & D. And they'd be forced to modernize and upgrade the internals of the phone. |
zenus:I doubt that. The iPhone is not on sale officially in Nigeria, so no Nigerian AppStore yet. |
So na here my slaves dey come brag behind my back, abi? I'm working on getting a decent connection. As soon as that is done i will come and beat El Razur et al back to the plantation. I will show you people why i was known and feared in my heydays! |
Lexusgs430:1. Peer pressure 2. Misguided people leaving one stagnant brand (nokia) into another (RIM) 3. The BB being the only smartphone platform in Nigeria being offered with a data plan? I'm no fan of Nokia, but RIM's blackberries are every bit as bad. perhaps even worse sef! |
This is hilarious. So according to the Pastor, God will frustrate anyone who is contesting elections to corruptly enrich himself? Even an SS3 student knows that 99% of Nigerian politicians are in it for self-enrichment. Is he assuring us now that all these politicians will be 'frustrated'? |
