Abagworo: If this threat is fulfilled, then Nigerians will suffer for the sins of PDP.We need to get to the root of this MEND issue and address it once and for all.I still do not understand why Asari,Tompolo and others are walking free while Henry Okah and his brother are in jail. That is no justice.Let GEJ just give amnesty to everybody or try every militant. That is the only way to end this reign of terror in Nigeria. Why do you reason like a child? The amnesty offer was extended to everyone. Anyone who did not take it then or those who continue their criminal ways must be treated as criminals. Must we coddle all these crooks forever? The money these guys make from oil bunkering is far more than they can get from the Amnesty program. Ergo, they run back to the creeks to continue their oil stealing and gun-running. |

cattis: Last friday, Mr. Yomi Adegboye of MobilityNigeria went tough on smartphone makers who excluded Nigeria from purchasing applications on their app stores. This included RIM (blackberry), Apple, Samsung and Google. I quote him:
About 24 hours later, RIM changed their position and gave Nigeria access and sent a BB broadcast message out saying, "Blackberry appworld now available in Nigeria, download it, create a free account and enjoy unlimited access to applications on the App World"
MobilityNigeria later confirmed that they were now able to buy apps from BB AppWorld using Nigerian credit card. It is all over Twitter and more Nigerians are confirming that indeed they now have access to Blackberry's AppWorld.
I have been a fan of MobilityNigeria for years, but I didn't think they could pull something like this off. I salute! Are you actually dumb enough to believe that a toothless threat by these fellows was enough to suddenly enable AppWorld access in Nigeria? This is hilarious. Until a Nigerian carrier starts carrying the iPhone, there will be no Nigerian iTunes store. |

aikuda: The problem I have with INEC is why they should assume that Corpers are computer literates. A competent organization should have anticipated such a problem and provide adequate training for those who will need it. This is the problem in Nigeria, we just complain, we just assume, and we don't take inititative. They didn't assume jack, they had 3 days of training just in case. They just didn't expect the corps members to be computer virgins. Give me 20 mins with that laptop and i'll be up and running like a pro. wesley80: Why dont we give our graduates a break. We all kind of inherited the mentality of our fathers and grand fathers of being awed by the word "Graduate" thereby creating unrealistic expectaions especially when juxtaposed with our grossly underfunded educational system that has failed to keep up with the times. I wonder if the present crop of castigators who schooled in the 60's,70's and 80's would have fared any better under the same circumstances. The root of this awe is traceable to the days when a mere simple command of English left the predominantly illiterate and uneducated populace all too impressed at a fellow black mans mastery of the white mans language. To most, that was enough for graduates to attain Genius status and so "Graduate" became synonymous with "Genius". Now the stakes have been raised, Good English isnt enough any longer now u must be a genius in your field of study, a genius in the eyes of your boss, a genius in operating DDC machines even when u went all thru school without seeing or using one and the most annoying; a genius in the eyes of our foreign legion of education seekers(From Togo to Australia). The truth is graduates are just everyday people, while some are smart, some are dull, while some are inquisitive, some are docile and so on. No doubt the propoprtion of dull and docile ones seem to outweigh those of the smart ones in Nigeria but 4 Christs sake isnt that a reflection of our society? Nigerian graduates are graduates not geniuses. Get the difference. there's always a baseline of expectation and basic computer skills has to be one of them. nobody's talking about fancy stuff. Just be able to navigate around Windows a little. Is that too much to ask? |

Even my friend who read computer science was finding it difficult to put off my laptop because most Computer Science departments can't posses a computer. So what do u expect? I don't know where you get your crack from, but all federal Universities have computer centres. ALL universities in school have functional cybercafes. Computer awareness is a basic skill that everyone knows will come in handy in future. Any graduate that cannot use a computer is an idiot. even with no formal computer based training in your area of study, it is expected that every graduate should take advantage of Computers and the internet and at least learn the basics. PS: there is no single computer science department in Nigeria that will not have computers. I hate it when you people resort to melodrama to make a point. |

blacksta: Padi Padi Arrangement.
This is why i say it is business as usual for the corrupt elites under a government of GEJ - The man has no balls.
In the whole of Nigeria we cant find someone that would write a data entry software that captures basic details and a photo.
I am sure i can come up with crude microsoft access application in under 30 mins.
WHen i first heard of 87billion for ddc machines i initially thought it was some sophicated product and was so shocked to
see a
fuking Laptop, printer and webcam .
I dont blame the graduate it is a chicken before egg situation . How can one learn how to use a computer when you weren't trained with one. I agree. In fact, i don't expect the data entry software to be too sophisticated. however INEC's position is that many of the corps members struggle to use the computer on a basic level. another problem may be with the drivers installed for the fingerprint scanners. The scanners themselves should be reasonably ok so perhaps it's a sensitivity and software issue. |

sochan: Absolute rubbish. Did they train them properly? were the machines easy to operate? were they fit for purpose. This is just plain nonsese, because the writing was on the wall weeks before, but silly INEC failed to see anything.
In my opinion, lack of proper planning, and the use of the wrong equipment is to blame, not the poor corpers. WTF do you mean by 'were they easy to operate'? The so-called 'machine' is a LAPTOP. Why should any graduate need more than 10 minutes of training to become used to a mere data entry software layer running on Windows XP or Vista? A HUGE number of corps members serving are dumbasses who cannot use a computer properly. I find INEC's position perfectly understandable. oyb: how a nigerian lecturer, who is probably a computer illiterate himself can expect basic nigerian graduates to be computer literate is beyond me Why shouldn't he have that expectation? Why should any graduate not be computer literate? |

I am a corper and would like to point out that the zinox laptops have INEC specific operating systems. That may have added to the cost, but then i also think $1,700 is too much. As someone pointed out earlier, it's definitely the software and not a separate OS. There are thousands of DDC machines in use for this election. Even in the extremely unlikely event that the software cost nearly $100000, the average cost per machine will be less than $100. |

dozie76: I queued for hours for registration in the ongoing Voters registration exercise in my Area. After waiting for hours without the line moving an inch i became upset i then asked people around me why the delay, behold i was told that the center has successfully register only 3 persons in the morning no one else for about five hours ago. I was highly annoined and joined others to air our displeasure as people began to form groups to discuss how INEC and its contractors has eaten our money. On a second thought i decided to see exactly what was the problem only to find out that the NYSC Adhoc staff in company with some civil servants do not understand how to operate the machine.
The issue was that the scanner was not capturing thumb print of voters as i was questioning the officials i discovered that the scanner's red light which control the lens was not on .Neither the officials on ground nor their supervisor who came to rescue the situation understands that the scanner can not capture thumb print except when the light comes on. With all the money mapped out for this exercise ,there should be no reason why the operators should not be adequately trained and equipped to carry on their job in absence of such embarrassing display in public If at this age you cannot spell 'annoyed', I would also suggest that your teachers 'ate' your money too |

Nsiman: @ texxapete, its not only zinox been used, where i registered they used haier abi na haer brand The laptop is Zinox. I think Haier makes the printer or the fingerprint sensor. Nsiman: The ddc machine is made up of: a laptop, a snapper on a stand, finger print scanner and a printer. I think the hick ups depends on the inefficiency of users. At 3pm yesterday where i registered those guys has registered 40 pple just yesterday only but only battery run down was their major problem The DDC machines were purchased at a cost of $1770. Using market prices, Laptop = $700 printer = $70 webcam = $60 Fingerprint scanner = $100 Total cost of the hardware being used should never be more than $1000. People don chop with this DDC contract. Politics › Re: INEC Voter Registration: Eyewitness Accounts by texazzpete(m): 8:23am On Jan 17, 2011 |
NewsMonste: Our sources around Nigeria inform us that the major problems have to do with the following: - the attitude of some of the corps members - inefficiency of some of the corps members in the handling of the machines. - acquisition of good but low capacity equipment by INEC, especially the external memory devices - poor supervision of the entire exercise by INEC officials - lack of punctuality by registration officers Please explain how any of these factors ensures it takes over 30 mins to register ONE person in some areas. Explain why the fingerprint sensor is so poor that it can take multiple tries to get it to work. MTN, Glo and Airtel have been registering their subscribers for a while now and they do it far more efficiently. The difference is probably due to the equipment used. I don't know why INEC went with Zinox computers (overpriced, underpowered hardware) and chinese equipment. |

If your brother synced those apps from his itunes library, then they may be deleted. Try going to File > transfer purchases from iPhone to PC. That should transfer the apps to your itunes library and allow you sync. If it gives you a 'Not authorized' error, go to Store > Authorize this computer to authorize your apps on that PC. |
