Beaf:I spent a week in Warri, during which time i moved around quite a bit. You comparison criteria was "urban roads, facilities, vehicle quality, airports etc" Apart from the roads, I did not see anything outstanding about the other items you mentioned. Stop making snarky comments. If you cannot enlighten us on these improvements here, then hold your tongue! |
Beaf:Once again, read the post i was replying to. The person i was responding to had even made it clear that there were allegations of corruption against Ibori. And the period under review was the past 10 years. Even a child knows that Uduaghan hasn't been in power for the past 10 years. You need to look at things in context. |
I have no love for Ohakim, but Saharareporters style of "Sources told us" or "we were told by some sources" is not commendable either. If you can't name your sources, then provide real evidence for your allegations. |
Beaf:I asked a simple question, why can't you tender a simple and concise answer? I visited and stayed in Warri for a week, and all i saw were the same cabs and bikes i usually see, not much difference. I didn't go out that much, so you could help by providing evidence to contradict the little i saw. You mentioned 'high standard transport', i assumed the roads were a given. I will freely admit that the roads were pretty decent, and driving was a much more enjoyable affair than in port Harcourt. So in your reply, feel free to provide evidence. It's a unique Nairaland/Nigerian affliction to assume people are your enemies just because you do not always see things from the same perspective ![]() |
Beaf:It would do you good to actually read the post i was replying to. I was referring to Ibori here (another ex-Governor who has been lauded for 'doing something') Funny, how you didn't accuse me of working for the Federal or State Government. Anyone with a brain should know that the major beneficiaries (and hence, major culprits) for the Delta's under-development is the state and federal Governments. |
That is what makes this project different from normal GSM-GPS tracking, the phones doesnt have to have GPS chips. I believe it employs the same technology that GSM operators uses in displaying your locations at some places on your phones.
The name of the project is called GPS Gate/GPS Trace. With the Term 'GPS' used liberally in the name, do you really need someone on the Internet to tell you that it requires dedicated GPS chips? |
igbo boy:Sometimes, i think Nigerians deserve their leaders. Your Governor receives billions of Naira monthly to ensure good governance, develop the state and meet the needs of his people. 'visible changes' over a period of 10 years doesn't cut it. Especially when there are extremely strident allegations of corruption against the Governor. |
Great idea. Pity it's entirely useless for the 90% of Nigerians whose phones don't have a GPS chip in it. |
Beaf:Can you explain the bolded part? |
PapaBrowne:There must be no excuse for corruption. Why are you holding forth for such evil? When Rod Blajegovich's trial for corruption starts, i wonder if he'll be on the stand boasting of his good works in Chicago. |
hakim23:Iran is not misunderstood. They happily provide funding and arms for terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah, while simultaneously ratcheting up the tension in the Middle East by their president's frequent call for genocide. Hope that helps. |
Look at these bunch of hypocrites! just 3 weeks ago you folk were perfectly happy for FIFA to ban ALL Nigerian football because you were unhappy with the Super Eagles. you would have happily denied these young girls a chance just to make yourselves feel good. Now that these girls are performing, see how Nigerians are singing their praises. Rubbish. |
He's a scammer. |
Always laughable to see you people hype these outdated armament here. Of course it's a no-brainer that the Nigerian millitary will cream Ghana. try taking on the likes of Egypt and Ethiopia and you'll see the difference. NNS Aradu? Please. All the Ghanaians need to do is cough up $10 million for a pair of Exocets. it's one thing to be patriotic, but don't try and hype the Naija millitary any more than the 'local champions' they are. |
But what the hell has this got to do with Politics? |
Chxta:Dumbass. Coming back without calling me. I shoulda be the one to break the good news ![]() ah well, one more forum for you and i to argue ![]() |
4llerbuntu:Nokia won't be officially porting meego to the N900 http://news.techworld.com/operating-systems/3224696/nokia-confirms-no-meego-upgrade-for-n900/ |
tkb417:Then you agree that HiTV bit off more than they could chew. Since when did that become a good thing? Everybody's Mama told 'em this simple lesson: "Cut your coat according to your size". Even before Sanusi's tenure, we were hearing talk about HiTV's poor relationship with their financiers. Why should anyone mourn if these people were not able to iron out all these challenges in the past couple of years? |
otawa:Major European countries have decent leagues worth following. Third world countries like Nigeria usually have poor local leagues, hence the need to obtain their football fix. That's why countries like Thailand are as crazy about the Premier League as Nigeria. I know you like to style yourself as some sort of emancipated, pan africanist fellow, but your schtick is getting really old, and is no excuse for you not to use your brain. |
otawa:Brainwashed my butt. The consumer is king. We demand quality entertainment - and at the moment the Nigerian League does not provide that. Anyone who expects EPL fans to feel guilty over this must be on cheap crack. No.1 rule in entertainment: Give your audience what they want. |
tkb417:So any new TV station is supposed to go through the same learning curve? Don't be silly. Do you need to start making horse-drawn cannons and ancient flintlock pistols before you can make a rifle? That's why there are people called 'experts' who can help eliminate that learning curve. tkb417:So if they were making all that money, and had a guaranteed cash source to pay up the cash for the EPL license, why did they wait until the deadline was upon them (several months after paying down the 40 million dollars deposit) before making frantic attempts for the money? Since when did 'letters of request' become actual money? They could not pay up when due, that is the issue. tkb417:oh, i know what happened. What happened was HiTV being a totally mediocre service provider. With the EPL monopoly, they could easily have had 4 times their customer base - if only they didn't suck so hard. If they were making so much money as you claim, why didn't they care to invest more money in better programming for their customers? Go out there and listen to the general populace. People are HAPPY that DSTV got back the license. That should tell you something. |
PS3s sold in Computer Village are not fake. No need to lie to sell your console. |
I don't give a damn about HiTV, and people who are attempting to whip up sentimental arguments in favour of those incompetent clowns are totally deluded. As a customer and a consumer, all i care about is value for money, and HiTV was not providing that for their customers. Was it Sanusi's fault that over 70% of HiTV subscribers failed to renew their subscription until the start of a new premier league season? Was it Sanusi's fault that DSTV provided a far better viewing experience during the last world cup, drawing millions of customers away during that lucrative period? Banks are in the business of lending money. And it's every Bank's dream to lend money to thriving, strong companies with good cashflows. Banks LOVE lending to monopolies - they've got the business cornered. Since the HiTV management failed woefully to make the best of their opportunity, why blame Sanusi? Why blame the banks? What was HiTV doing when their subscriber base was begging for better programming? Oh, i forgot. They RAISED their prices, alienating yet more people. What did they do with their opportunity to negotiate cash-spinning deals with the numerous local cable companies? Patriotic Americans will rather buy a Toyota or Honda sedan than a Ford sedan. why? Because they are better value for money. As a consumer, you should first aim for the best value for your hard earned money. And HiTV was not good value, being just a one-trick pony. So don't blame Sanusi. Blame Toyin Subair and his cohorts for failing to meet the expectations of his audience/customers. And strive to educate Nigerians that we are not obliged to accept rubbish just because it is 'made in Nigeria'. Feel free to support HiTV with your subscriptions if you feel strongly about the matter. |
dekin:Doesn't mean it's a perfect hack. http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=49811&page=1 Phone and 3D gpu aren't working at the moment. I hope i haven't come across as being too hard on the N900. it's a solid device, i've been blown away everytime it's been demoed to me. I just have this strong dislike for how poor Nokia in general have become, and serious contempt for the clueless people who keep buying their iterative Symbian phones. The N900 is a really good phone, though. Could be better, though. @dekin overclocking the N900 leads to a serious hit on the already average N900 battery life. Not worth it. |
4llerbuntu:The android hack won't be completely seamless. And no hack can make the N900 meet up with the tech specs of the HTC Desire/Nexus One. The Desire will still easily smoke the N900 at stuff like emulation. No hack can make the N900 any less chunky either. I don't know about you, but the only function i don't use on my iPhone 3GS is the GPS (no decent maps for Nigeria yet). I download apps from the store, browse with mobile Safari over Wifi, play online games over Wifi etc. If i had a Nexus one, it'd be the same. it doesn't take much effort or investment to fully utilize your phone in Naija. |
N900 is getting to be old news these days. To be honest, i can't see why someone would get one over a HTC Desire (1Ghz smartphone running Android 2.2). It's got all the bells and whistles of the N900 (more impressive specs) and it has an OS that has a whole lot more momentum than the Meego running on the N900. For all the talk of it being open source, the best apps churned out by the community will not even come near the quality of what you can get on the Android Market. The N900 is Nokia's best phone right now, but still, it's a no-brainer to go with Android these days for the average consumer. If you're a hardcore geek, then probably the N900 will seem compelling to you. |
wirinet:The point is, these pipes are being laid to harness produced gas that otherwise will be flared. By derailing this project, they are only increasing the amount of time they have to endure through gas flaring. Unless, of course, it does not pain you that gas is being flared in your region. The other discussions about the role of Niger Delta indigenes in the poverty wave sweeping through the region are general comments, not necessarily applied to this situation. If you notice, i did mention that the women did one thing right in this case; they are targeting the federal government. However, they ought also to look to their state and local governments too. |
austin4real:Forget it. You can't get a good gaming laptop in that price range. You may be able to get an average one, though. Krosslife:He's asking for a gaming laptop. You ought to at least mention the graphics card in those laptops, that's the most important bit. |
