Satellite technology is useless unless pertinent information has been specifically customised so that a GPS system can make sense of it. Local digital mapping must be carried out . This is an important consideration . Your Garmin would be useless in Lagos if there is no digital map guiding the signals being recieved .

Garmin maps for Lagos already exists. Ditto for Nokia Ovi maps. Please tender a more convincing explanation.

Also, the claim of 1cm accuracy by the Lagos state Government is a shameless lie.

Everything i wrote in my post is based on facts in the public domain. Instead of attacking me, why don't you devote your efforts to counter what i wrote?
A good reason why we aren't a 'threat' to the 'white man' is that there are far too many people who are unable to use their brains constructively.
People like you.

Funny thing is, you keep blabbing about 'racist' and 'racism', but going by the dictionary definition of racism, you're a racist!

I am a Nigerian and i care nothing for your constant rhetoric of 'colonial oppression'. The most important maladies crippling Nigeria today are corruption, tribalism and intolerance - maladies which have nothing to do with 'western oppression'.

Oppression is oppression anywhere you find it. Instead of babbling about 'colonial oppression', why haven't you ever come out to speak of the rapes in Congo, the starvation in Zimbabwe and the killings in Darfur?

I'm still stunned that you fellows haven't heard of the Trans-Saharan and Indian Ocean slave trade.
In fact, more africans were enslaved and taken away to the middle east/Arab world than those taken off to western countries.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_slave_trade

And as someone mentioned here before, of the slaves sold off to the Westerners, the vast majority were handed over to the slavers by their fellow Africans for money or favours.

@texazpete you keep ringing that Nokia is Slow and intuitive but am sorry to say Nokia isn't that slow as you picture it to be and yes it far more advanced and better than the crap berry.this is my first blackberry phone and already i feel like aa dullard the applications aint much the operating system slows down like hell and i have to take out my battery everyday,my 2year old laptop boots faster than the blackberry and the Messenger hangs if u belong to a group please i don use close to 10 nokia phones and i have never had this kinda issue.
I've been on record to state firmly that the BB OS is crappy and dated. However at least RIM does have its messaging and communication prowess and is indispensable to people who require those features.
For Nokia, there's actually no excuse. Every single feature they can boast of is easily replicated and surpassed in rivalling high-end phones out there. Thus it's more difficult to swallow their crap.

pc guru:
.also the Operating system is pure Java. i dont think BB has a native app. Blackberry is a fad
There are loads of native apps on the BB. Also, RIM has been selling BBs by the bucketload to consumers for a while now. Sure, the recent BB craze is a fad, but you cannot call out Blackberry adoption as being a 'fad'

pc guru:
also you complain a lot about N97, u keep using a single phone to rule out others, yeah Nokia might be crap with current phones but the operating system is no where crap its been the defacto since a long time because you are iphone person you keep taking interface into consideration than functionality, Not everyone can afford an iphone or the android so nokia caters for the public its because we users here are advanced, also the ios apart from the Darth Vader Death Grip is no where perfect at all.still the Android crowns them all not saying the iphone is useless it actually the best but hate the fact that Darth vader doesnt give you a choice on what you want,
The N97 is STILL Nokia's flagship phone. And it isn't just me; virtually all independent reviewers had harsh words for the device. From the crappy resistive screen, to the mediocre processor Nokia stuck in to the OS itself, the phone was mediocre through and through.
Even a Nokia executive is on record admitting that the N97 sucked.

pc guru:
but the operating system is no where crap its been the defacto since a long time because you are iphone person you keep taking interface into consideration than functionality,
And that's the problem. The Symbian OS has been out there for  a long time. It's been left in the shadow by newer, more nimble phone OSes like the iOS, Android, WebOS and soon Windows Phone 7. The OS was shoved almost unchanged into a touch interface by Nokia from the 5800, and it shows.
Its situtation is not helped by Nokia's folly in using mediocre processors in their touch screen smartphones (with the exception of the N900).
Nokia used to have an advantage in app quality and quantity, but no longer. Android's Market and Apple's AppStore are now the kings of the hill when it comes to contemporary mobile apps.

Hundreds of millions of Naira wasted on a doomed 'rebranding' project, with no visible result in Nigeria's image both abroad and local. All we've seen her do is hop from place to place looking for cheap popularity.

Thank you for taking time out to educate these people. We bought first generation F-7 chinese planes which are upgraded versions of the MiG 21s - decades old technology and y'all expect savvy folk to be thrilled.

As i said before, na local champion we be.

lordangers:
The F-7 was made in 1966 and was different (not completely) but it was defiantly better if only slightly. And why would the likes of China, Pakistan and Egypt all be using them
The chinese use them as a mass deterrent. They know the F-7 is drastically inferior to any modern fighter, but that disadvantage is really reduced because the chinese can put swarms of them in the air at a time.

To put things in perspective, a handful of Egyptian Air Force F-16s will comfortably destroy most of our chinese F-7s in minutes.

Fun fact: the egyptian air force has and can use Harpoon Anti-Ship missiles. What were you saying about the NNS Aradu again?

As the NAFDAC head, she did a good job.
As the information minister, this woman is woefully inept.

But the Dora worship in Nigeria goes a long way to show how stupid many Nigerians are. And how comfortable they are with their mediocre leaders.

This is someone who lavished a fortune on 'rebranding' Nigeria, which has had absolutely no dent on Nigeria's poor image and who could only list the Dictrict 9 banning and forcing Sony to apologize as her main achievement.

. . . . dnt get me wrong, BB is very good at messaging but dat only comes in when one is on d BIS; even getting the full capabilities of the fone only happens wen the BIS is active.
Are u saying one cant get such service on other fones without having to suscribe to Blackberry?
I've even considered getting a BB but decided not to when i found out other 3rd party apps r locked out of d BIS
The BB is ONLY n i repeat ONLY a good device n business tool for those in the corporate world.
Cheers
BB does it better than other phones. Simple and short.
i'm not sure what you mean by '3rd party apps' being locked out. Twitter apps, Facebook apps and messenger apps like Gtalk and yahoo messenger are fully supported when you're on BIS. The default blackberry browser is totally horrible. i installed opera Mini on it and it's much better at browsing.
On a BIS plan, the BB is getting a huge popularity increase as a consumer phone. and it's not just a nigerian thing; all over the world, connectivity and social networking is HUGE.

Without a BB package, the phone isn't all that great to be honest. But then again, most people who go for BBs are on one plan or the other.

Tex, so you think the amount you spend on buying and running a Blackberry is really worth it, you have no doubts what so ever? Nokia has many faults but they do make some decent mid-range phones. I prefer going for an Android phone rather than a BB or a Nokia.
Yeah, Android is part of the future.
And i agree with you, Nokia's best efforts seem to be focused on the mid to low-range phones like the 5800.

The BB has very impressive messaging and IM features. At first glance i hated the OS. The default browser is terrible and the OS can be rather clunky. but the BIS makes things worth while. I'm more of an iPhone guy, though.

Although I spend average of about eight hours a week reading many of our contributions on nairaland but I hardly contribute because of the way we trivialise serious issues and many people arguing blindly. 90m as a budget for 9000 staff for a year is not much, but do you ask how many people work in NDDC? My company gave me a gift of a hundred thousand naira during my wedding and therefore don't think civil servants shouldn't enjoy same but the problem is over bloated budget. Anyway, what I want everybody to know is that THE DAY NIGERIANS GET TO KNOW HOW THESE PEOPLE SPEND OUR MONEY WITH TAILS OF SORROW, TEARS AND BLOOD, there will dead bodies all over the major streets in Nigeria. Some people that know will understand my statement. Until then, I rest my case,
So you spend 8 hours reading? Good thing you don't contribute often as i find you sadly lacking in the brains department.
When did anyone say there were 9000 staff in NDDC? How is that even possible?
Secondly, why should taxpayers' monies be used to pay for wedding cost? So your company made a contribution for your wedding, did they use Taxpayers' money?
In my company, wedding contribution is done on an informal basis with a brown envelope passed around and people who care to can make a contribution. I received a cash gift of 120k this way, all at no burden to the ordinary citizen out there.

I repeat again, do you know how many boreholes 90m can drill?

Still doesnt change the fact that BB is CRAP!!
At least as far as communication suite, the BB does what it claims pretty well. In fact, it's messaging and IM features are best in class.

Remind me again of anything Nokia really does well. Or anything Nokia can really claim to be best in class for any of its phones.

the Symbian OS is old, slow, clunky and outdated. Their touchscreen phones almost always ship with mediocre resistive screens. Their once-awesome software library is being outstripped and left far behind in terms of relevance. Their apps are almost always visually inferior to those on the Android or IOS platforms. The available games are more often than not mediocre - and their failure to relaunch the N-gage platform shows that.

Nokia is an old dinosaur that now churns out boring phones by the dozen. They are slipping badly in the smartphone market, selling only well at the cheap smartphone level (like the Nokia 5800) while faring poorly at the premium, high-end section (the Nokia N97 and N96). There's a reason why their CEO is being pressured to step down.

The BB is kinda crappy if you aren't on BIS. But when you're on a BIS message and data plan, the device comes alive. And those unique BB features are enough to excuse the purchase of a BB device. It does what it does best very well.

Unless you're an old, stodgy fellow or you're short of cash, it's a brainless move to buy any of the Nokia phones in the market today (except for the excellent N900). I can understand if you don't wanna plunk down for an iPhone (it doesn't appeal to everyone). But you'd have to be really really weird to buy an N97 over any decent Android phone from HTC.

The most outstanding quality of the iPhone is its stability

STABILITY? According to Apple the antenna is wired round the body for utmost signal reception but we have seen that the biggest problem of the iphone is its reception capabilities leading to high drop calls.
Wrong. Reception capabilities of the iPhone are top notch.
The reason for some dropped calls in weak signal areas is when the two external antennas are bridged. It doesn't happen to all users and will only be an issue is weak signal areas. The free case included by Apple solves this problem.

The OS stability is beyond question.

if a poll indicates HTc desire has a better user experience, will u invariably say that the htc is the better phone.

As a matter of fact, specs in conjuction with user experience is what is most important. Apple made a breakthrough in d mobile phone industry with the release of the (legendary) iphone in june 07 but since then they've not recorded that success in their other products.
Other companies have improved and even outclassed them in some of the features.

june 07 iphone , july 08 3g, june 09 3gs, june 10 4g

You should be in a better position to list features and functions cos all that i know are already existing features n functions.

since the announcements of the 4g Tech enthusaists around the world dont find anything truly unique or overwhelming.

pros
Design (u cant beat it)
Good battery life
Apps (bonus)

The phone is overprised (we're in iworld )
No Flash (85% of the top 100 websites uses flash)
Charges for satnav (too poor)
Facetime (doesn't makes sense, the world ve past that)

Must we always jailbreak for for what is obtainable worldwidehuh Does that makes sensehuh cant we be freehuh

If we're to go by polls
A recent poll in the US indicates that iphones fans are more inclined to get and stick with the android. (where're dollars heading to)

True developers are more in love with iphone but surveys by Appcelerator favours the android as the most favored platform for the future. (dollars will definitely shift)
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/techchron/detail?&entry_id=66349

As my guy Jason sums it up "The handset is a triumph of marketing over functionality."
Almost every single tech blog state in their reviews that the iPhone 4 is the best all round smartphone in the market today.

As for the 'overpriced' jibe, the iPhone price is very comparable to other top smartphones around the world. The HTC Desire has been out for a while now, and is 429 pounds. the iPhone 4 has arguably better specs and is 499 unlocked.
I don't see the massive price gap. Do you?
