Please!!!!! Please!!!!! Do not buy plasmas outside Nigeria. I recently bought a 37" LCD TV from the US and had to pay an extra N62,000 customs duties, excluding cost of shipping. you really don't save much.
Well, i came back into Naija with a pal of mine, i was carrying my 37 inch LCD, he had a 32 inch LCD. we breezed through customs without paying a thing. They tried to make us pay, but we pointed out that it was a person item.

N62k is too much any way u look at it. Why pay more than N10k sef?

@ To all Catholics

Where have you ever read in the Bible that Jesus or any other apostle ever dug up death body of a prophet or any other person to sanctify it and make it saint ? . But sometime ago the Pope came to Nigeria to carry out that ritual during Sani Abacha.

I need an explanation for this.
Kindly show that the pope came to Nigeria to dig up a dead body. WastePipe!

I pity my fellow Christians for their folly. there are a myriad of Christian bodies and churches out there, each with their own persuasive argument. After all, all the protestants babbling here need to do is to find a determined Jehovah's Witness, and they'll be told they are on the wrong path too.

The truth is, whether or not you pray through anyone, or ask any saint for intercession, whether or not you believe in guardian angels or patron saints or in the Lord's Prayer or that the holy day is saturday or sunday, there's one LCF ( least common factor) in Christianity, and that's Jesus. I haven't met a Christian yet that doesn't worship Jesus. That alone is enough to see you through to Heaven provided you keep his comandments. Any other thing is just semantics.

AT times, i think it's cowardice and sheer stupid bigotry that propels people to make these comparisons. There are millions of Pagans out there that don't even believe in Jesus, tens of thousands of Nigerians that feel Christianity is a foreign religion. Go out there are convert these people. No matter what Christian sect he converts to, it still boils down to a soul won for Christ.

But all we get are people too cowardly to do this, dissing fellow Christians. Pitiful.

Diplomatic

I have no doubt that every morning, the staff of the British High Commission in Nigeria wake up, peruse their newspapers, and heave huge sighs of relief. Another day has passed, and their offices haven't been bombed, burned down, invaded, etc.

They probably exchange "jolly goods" and any other nonsensical expressions when they arrive at work, and settle down for another day of doing what they perhaps enjoy more than anything else - looking for new and innovative ways to scam Nigerians.

For, make no mistake about it, a massive, massive scam is going on at the British High Commission, perpertrated through their UK Visa Applications Center.

Now, perhaps, we Nigerians are partly to blame, what with our apparent burning desire to visit their country and contribute our quota to its development at the expense of our own, and they can perhaps claim that in the mire of thousands of applications that pour in daily, legitimate persons get the bum's rush. But come the Bleep on!

Here's how the scam works - you pay your Visa Application fee, and are given a form to fill. The staff of the UK Visa Applications Center are remarkably helpful in letting you know what documents to submit in support of your application, depending on what type it is. You go off, get the required documents, ranging from Sponsors' Letters to Bank Statements, and submit them in support of your application. Then you settle down for a two-week waiting period (officially). At the end of two weeks, assuming you've done all they asked, they should grant your request, right? You'd be sooooooo wrong.

Over the past year, several people I know have applied for varying visas from the UK VAC. All of them have been denied. Perhaps, you say, all these people have wrongly filled in their information, or failed to provide vital documents, but that isn't so.

My good friend, who is now in the UK and contemplating a Ph.D, was denied a student visa on his first application on the ground that although he'd paid his school fees in full, he was not considered to have sufficient funds to pay for his Masters Programme! Huh? He paid the entire fee, submitted evidence of this fact, and yet was told he didn't have the funds to pay for a Masters programme, which he'd already done. It was only on his second application that the Visa was granted. Naturally, he had to pay another Visa Application Fee, and submitted the exact same documents, before he was granted his Visa.

Another friend was denied a student visa on the grounds that the tax clearance certificate submitted by him in support of his application was "fraudulently obtained". Mind, the tax clearance certificate in question wasn't his personally, but belonged to his father's company. In support of his student visa application, he submitted bank statements from 4 banks, each showing a healthy account balance, and corresponding history of high volume transactions. Apparently, not being able to deny him on financial grounds, they came up with "fraudulently obtained tax clearance certificate". The young man has now obtained a letter from the tax clearance comptroller verifying the certificate, and re-applied, paying another Visa Application fee. They'll probably grant this one.

Yet another person was denied a visiting visa on the grounds that he deposited money into his account "suspiciously close" to the time he paid his Visa Application fee. Naturally, they failed to provide a definition of "suspiciously close". So, while he had evidence of funds to finance his trip, he failed to provide evidence of their origin, and could not therefore be given a Visa. Nice, eh? So, if you were to come into a million naira contract after years of sweating it out, and slogging away, you should wait a few years to apply for a UK Visa, so as to avoid applying "suspiciously close" to when you were finally smiled upon by God for your years of hard work.

And finally, my personal favourite, and one that doesn't simply take the cake, but takes the entire fucking pastry industry. A young lady I know wished to visit the UK on holiday. She happens to hold a respectable job at a big bank, and she's worked there for a number of years. In her case, she was told that while she had submitted print outs showing places of interest to visit in the UK, she had failed to provide a "reason" for her trip, and then, the whopper - she was further informed that while she had shown evidence of financial status vis her ability to pay for her trip, the trip would consume her savings and was therefore not feasible!!! Since when did the UK VAC become a financial advice center? And is it not customary for people to save money for vacations? I've heard people give interviews on TV and say stuff like "I always wanted to visit Australia, so I've been saving up for the trip", or something along those lines. The lady has since decided to take a trip within Nigeria for her vacation, somewhere down south.

Now, when a man who was previously dirt poor becomes a Senator or Honorable, decides to take a trip to the UK and submits personal bank statements in support of his application, you'll never hear questions like "origin of funds?" or any other bull shit. They don't want to know whether he had N20,000 in his account a few days ago, and a sudden deposit of N200 million two days to his Application would not be considered "suspiciously close". Bleep no. The Visa would be granted with immediate alacrity so he can go shopping on Bond Street for fine new suits, and spend some of our hard earned currency in their land. Indeed, they'll probably give him directions to the most expensive shops. For such people the normal rules of rejection do not apply.

I say these people are extremely lucky they do not provide these shabby services to people who have short fuses, and I don't believe they would dare run such an ovbious scam even in Ghana!

But this is Nigeria, no? The land where anything goes, and usually does.

It's quite simple really. Your PC fails to meet the minimum recommended system specs to play the game.
Your Via Samuel processor is no match for the Intel P3
You only have 224MB RAM available after reboot. the game asks for 256MB
You have no 3D GPU of note to render the game graphics

Just give it up now, while you still can grin

Maleeq:
The fact is that most(all I feel) laptops come with GPUs sufficient enough for everyday user's need. Unless you are serious gamer, I don't see the need in spending extra for GPU power you'd probably never utilize above 20% of its might!

Truth again is that most people spend a fortune on laptops with all the "bells and whistle" when all they do on it is word processing and a little media playing!
That's where you're wrong. try playing Unreal Tournament 2004 ( a 2004 game) on an intel GMA powered laptop (the vast majority of 1yr + old laptops out there) and you'll see the horrors of slowdown.

Not only for serious gamers, a dedicated GPU massively improves video editing and encoding times.

Many more people do more than 'a little video editing and word processing' nowadays. Even computer illiterates get in on the hype. take a look at the guys in the 'PLay Playstation 2 on your PC' thread asking plaintively why their laptops/desktops can't run the emulators.

All Laptop Sellers Here, Please Read!

I've noticed most of the laptop vendors here supply laptops with a focus only on the CPU speed and the Hard Disk drive specs. I'd like to say that many people nowadays are looking for laptops with decent GPUs (Graphics Processing Unit) or Graphics Card as it's more commonly known.

More and more people want to game on their laptops, and with the advent of cheap USB gamepads loads of my pals are really getting into PC games like Pro Evo Soccer. To run these games a decent dedicated GPU is required.

Apart from gaming, only laptops with decent GPUs can run Windows Vista with all the bells and whistles enabled. Even Video editing and 3d animation software need good graphics cards to run well.

It isnt too hard to find a laptop with a decent gfx card onboard. the two biggest players are Nvidia (makers of the Geforce brand) and ATI/AMD. Most laptops equipped with a dedicated GFX card have the logos on the laptop (Geforce or ATI)

All i'm asking is y'all need to state what kind of gfx (or lack thereof!) is in your machines so it completes the specs.

Thanks for reading this far. . .

It's a well known fact that the Air force and Navy were severly weakened by Abacha and babangida's regime.

I dunno who's talking about our MiGs, but our stock of MiG 17s and 21s are pretty much grounded now. Our alpha jets are a joke, unable to withstand any modern fighter in aerial combat.

From Wikipedia

The Nigerian Air Force is the air arm of the Nigerian military. It is one of the largest in West Africa, consisting of 100+ fighter aircraft including SEPECAT Jaguars, Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21s, and Dassault-Dornier Alpha Jets, and a handful of Russian made bombers and military transport aircraft. However in recent years many of them are no longer airworthy.

In 2005 it was reported that Nigeria has approved $251 million USD to purchase 15 Chengdu F-7 fighters from China. The deal includes 12 F-7NI (NI = Nigeria) single seat fighters, and 3 FT-7NI dual-seat trainers. [1] The $251 ($252?) million package includes $220 million for 15 aircraft, plus $32 million for armaments, including 20 live PL-9C AAM, 10 training PL-9 rounds, unguided rockets, and 250 kg bombs.

Nigeria had previously considered a $160 million deal to refurbish its fleet of MiG-21's by Aerostar/Elbit Systems, IAI, and RSK MiG. However, with the new F-7 purchase, the government of Nigeria has decided to scrap the refurbish option and grounded its fleet of MiG 21's.

So mortar tubes and rounds are easy to make? You are funny

Having the ability to produce and having the ability to deploy military hardware are two different things. What is wrong in being happy that we can produce our own mortars instead of buying them like most African countries do?

The Nigerian military has been upgrading it's hardware for a couple of years now. We are the only country in West Africa that are strong enough to deploy and maintain combat formations several miles outside our borders.
I have great pity for you. Mortars were invented and used extensively before world war 1. and that's before 1917. That's 90 years ago.
SO you're saying we should be jubilating because we've just started producing Mortars? A mortar is relatively simple and easy to operate. A modern mortar consists of a tube which gunners drop a shell into. A firing pin at the base of the tube detonates the propellant and fires the shell. That's just what it is!

We should be producing missiles with ranges of over 200km. Guided missiles at that. Yet we do not even make rockets as powerful as the V2 rockets used by Germany durng world war 2.

The South Africans have been making their own field guns and artillery for years now (since the 70s). at one point, they were reputed to have the best howitzer in the world. The Libyans have long become skilled at making their own tanks and advanced weaponry. Yet we quiver with joy when we manufacture a locally made assault rifle (Obj-1) and standard NATO 7.62mm bullets. shango:
all circumsision originated culturally and provides ZERO HEALTH BENEFITS (including male circumcision)

God made us and our private parts the way it was. Plus we evolved that way. There is a reason the male organ has foreskin over the tip. I would not be suprised if soon they find out that circumcision actually leads to detrimental issues. Why not shave our eyebrows when we are born or remove the nails of our fingers when we are born? I mean I could create a new religion that has that as one of its customs just like the jews did in the old testament where male circumcision comes from. Its funny how people think male circumcision is kosher. The Old Testament says alot of things like it is ok to own slaves and that a child should be stoned to death for disobeying their father. How come so called CHristains pick and choose what they want to obey in the bible. You either believe the bible is the word of God and follow it or you do not. If we still went by eveyrthing the bible said, especially in the old testament, Nigeria would still be a british colony and slavery would be alive and well in the world today, afterall it is justified in the bible.

Female circumcision, like male circumcision is pointless and a useless cultural custom. That someone said male circumcision prevents the spread of aids shows their ignorance.
YOU show your ignorance. From Wikipedia

Three randomised control trials published since 2005 confirm that adult male circumcision results in a 50-60% reduction in risk of HIV transmission (from female to male) during heterosexual intercourse.[104] The results of the first trial were published in November 2005. It found a 60% reduction in the rate of new HIV infection (from 2.1 per 100 to 0.85 per 100 in the intervention group. The authors said, “Male circumcision provides a degree of protection against acquiring HIV infection, equivalent to what a vaccine of high efficacy would have achieved. Male circumcision may provide an important way of reducing the spread of HIV infection in sub-Saharan Africa.”[61] Two further trials conducted in Uganda and Kenya were stopped early on December 13, 2006 on grounds that circumcision was so effective that it would be unethical to continue the experiment and not offer circumcision in the uncircumcised men who were acting as controls. The results showed that circumcised males in Uganda were, depending upon the analysis, 51%-60% less likely to be infected.[13] In Kenya, circumcised males were 53%-60% less likely to be infected.[12] A paper published in the journal PLoS Medicine in July, 2006, calculated that if all men in sub-Saharan Africa were circumcised over the next 10 years, two million new infections could potentially be avoided.[105]

In addition, most cases of penile cancer appear in uncircumcised men and cimcumcised men are less likely to contact urinary tract infections.

Good!

There's one thing we all have in common. We're all from Edo State. it should be a no-brainer that things that concern all residents of Edo State should be discussed. we expect to see and hear what's going on in the state (especially for those of us not residing there now) and more info and critiques of the current administration. We're not interested in hearing of intrigues in the Oba's palace or reading up on the history of the Bini Empire.

That, perhaps, is the point Gamine is trying to pass across, albeit in her usual belligerent manner grin

There is cruelty in your words. A someone who cares, I hope eventually you come to realize this.

@poster
You don't look too old. But you've either got to have a thick skin or a thick skull for setting yourself out as flamebait on NL. People 'round these parts can be good, but usuallu opt for being shallow and derisive.
