@Poster, my answer to your question is an emphatic YES! Good health is free (ask Musa Yaradua, ask the former GTB MD, ask Joe Frazier, etc) A good wife is free (believe me, i know this) Salvation is free (i believe you know this, too) Children are free It is important for us to be on the same page as per the definition of the "best things in life". For me it means the things without which life would be un-fulfilling and/or miserable. If that's your definition, then trust me, they can't be bought with money. They are God-given; they are indeed free. |
@dessertboom, Criticism, yea I agree, but constructive criticism. What we see here is mostly cynicism. I think that, as a people, we should be inclined to helping people honestly. Empathy should be our attitude when we click the "reply" button. It's the way to go; and, believe me, we'd all be better for it. |
It's interesting how a thread started in good faith almost always degenerates into a forum for exchanging words and name calling. I don't understand. I am certain that Seun intended this to be a forum for exchanging constructive ideas. Correct me if I'm wrong - thread after thread after thread - the story is the same. So why would Uju_1 want to share anything here again? Beats me. |
its.me:I am not an expert in your area but I am certain that someone on this forum can proffer some advice on the "viability" of doing an MSc in Economics coming from a background in Accounting. What I can however tell you is that you may not be able to do an MBA straight away after your first degree. Most schools would require that you have some level of working experience first. |
gboye_1999:@gboye_1999, The Leicester MBA comprises 10 modules: 7 core modules, 2 electives and the dissertation. There are four exams (which are conducted at the British Council) and 5 assignments, before the dissertation. Also, the school gives you the option to specialize in any of the following areas: Marketing, Finance, HR, IT Management and Quality Management. I have chosen a specialism in IT Management. I started the course in August 2009 and it cost me about 8,000 Pounds. I am not aware of any price changes. |
I am currently running an MBA at University of Leicester via distance learning. And, man, is this challenging or what?! From the very first module of the program, I experienced something about learning I never did through out my primary, secondary and university days in Nigeria. It's no wonder why many multi-national companies (including mine) favour international degrees to our local ones - I had always thought it was the slave mentality thing. But no, it's not. All the modules have been very insightful so far (I'm currently on the 8th module of 10 in all) but I have found Business Ethics in a Global Context most interesting because of it's global view and comparisons about what constitutes ethical behaviour in business. All things being equal I should be done by December this year. |
How many of the lucky people above applied for Experienced Hires positions cos that was what I applied for and have yet to get an invite. |
I think he simply has got a 'complex' problem. He could use a therapist! |

@Poster, While I admire your seeming dedication and hard work in trying to criticize the man who many would regard as the best governor in Nigeria today, I don't understand your motive. Is it a critique or criticism? No one says Fashola is a saint; certainly not me. But the we should be able to praise and encourage people when they perform. No one would say Fashola has done badly. No, not one! Critique is good. In fact, it is necessary for development. My problem with your stance is that you do not seem to see anything good in the man. And I find that surprising. Your post was a long, long one but I tried to read it all through and there was no where you sounded a word of praise for the man. I ask you therefore: would rather have an Igbenedion as governor? Think about it, brother. Think about it. Let us learn to criticize constructively; not with intent to destroy or malign. |
Try me! |

I have an IT background with a first degree in Computer Science and over 5 years experience and Systems / Network Adminstration, 2 of which have been in the telecoms sector. And my target: Oil industry. So which makes more sense? |
If given the opportunity to study in the UK which would you do: MBA or MSc? Which has more bargaining power? Can we have an informed opinion, please. |
In order of preference: Casino Royale Troy Gladiators |

"I received a threatening email from Intercontinental Bank this morning. I'm still kind of shaken and I can't figure out if they are threatening a "Spiritual" or "Physical" attack. Why would a "healthy" bank threaten a "lowly" blogger for doing a public service? After all, the CBN is conducting a "Special Examination" of the bank. Well, if anything happens to me, I guess my wife and kids will know who to hold responsible. I plan to take this threat seriously. I won't be bullied. I remain an intrepid newshound."I find something a little curious here: he says "I guess my wife and kids will know who to hold responsible". But from his profile, he's supposed to be female. I don't know but is there something I'm missing? |

Yea, I just tried that but there is no Windows Checkpoint that dates as far back as the time this issue started. Maybe I should have tried it much earlier. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. |
I am having a problem with my HP laptop on which I have installed Microsoft Windows Vista (Enterprise Edition). I woke up one day to find that I could no longer open my Control Panel. When I try doing so it just says "Windows Explorer has stopped working" and that's how it has been for a month now. Does anyone have a solution please cos this is really frustrating my work. |
Hi Kaydee, thanks for your comments but u didn't have to end it with an unkind word. I only expressed my views, thats all. Lets try to be a little more civil, shall we? |
The god of soccer is so unfair. So unfair! Or how else would one explain the continual favour the Italians enjoy at extremely crucial times. And the latest of the victims are Scotland. Scotland were 2 minutes away from the European Championships before the referee, apparently under the influence of some cheap drug, awarded a free kick to Italy - one that ought to have been awarded the other way round, and boom. Italy scores. That match reminded me about the manner Italy defeated the Super Eagles at USA 94, and I could almost weep for Scotland. I just hope that referee minds where he goes at least for sometime because I'm sure some Scots would not hesitate to lynch him. |
I turned 29 in July and I don’t like politics. I never did. But I am a patriot. Over the years the ugly scenes we see on TV and hear in the news of our leaders’ indifference, and indeed the palpable helplessness of the ordinary Nigerian have created a certain feeling of numbness in me. I am pissed off at any attempt to raise issues pertaining to government and governance. But, suddenly, there is an insurmountable urge in me to discuss politics, government. Why, you might ask. When President Musa Yaradua was sworn-in as president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in May, I thought, and I believe I was not alone, that it was going to be business as usual. Just over 100 days, and I am suddenly beginning to feel like the proud son of a famous and wealthy father. My psyche has changed inexplicably. President Yaradua in my view, and only a little over a hundred days into his administration, has demonstrated that he is going to be the very best president Nigeria has ever had. I do not want to start counting his achievements but I just want to say that his being able to make a positive change in the consciousness of Nigerians like me is a great feat indeed. I always tell anyone who cares to listen that I personally offered fervent prayers for the Golden Eaglets to win the Trophy and present to our able leader. It’s the least we can offer him. I am so proud of him. Everyday I pray that God grant him the wisdom to lead this country back to greatness. One thing I am certain about is that he, Yaradua, has a good heart and means well for Nigeria. God bless Nigeria. |
