Re: Kalabari People! by ow11(m): 10:42am On Jan 16, 2010
@joyblinks

I na balama. . . Bille don turn to tribe now? It is the frustration of not getting a look in for political positions. I think they are quite far away from everyone that's why. Kula people aren't complaining about Abonnema domination in Akulga yet.
Re: Kalabari People! by joyblinks(f): 11:16am On Jan 16, 2010

How do you say hello in Kalabari?
Re: Kalabari People! by OkpoTombi: 1:36am On Nov 25, 2010
What we should know is that  no matter how long it may take truth never dies,  Do u know that Kalabari was settled and established by the Tombia people, till date if  you go to  Elem Kalabari you will see that is a small piece of land compared to Elem  Tombia ,  Tombia was also a  defense to the kalabari because they settled them fourth  there war with Nembe and Okrika and established them more and more. Also the major cause of the cilvil war in old kalabari that brought about the split was that Tombia brought Amakiri to rule over the kalabari, even  when Amakiri is a total strainger and a slave boy to the Queen mother of kalabari. Now lets know one fact here that Tombia has never been under kalabari . in this 21st century there is no kalabari again what we have is Abonima, Buguma, and Bakana has so claimed but my brother and father great hero Iyalla can never instead he will prefer to die than to agree his a kalabari man, his spirit will not even be at peace with his children who call themselves kalabari, when he himself try to erase kalabari out of the surface of the earth in other to colonize them but the brothers in Elem Tombia betrayed him and reveal  the secret to the kalabari, then the fear of Iyalla was the beginning of wisdom, as a result of the sabotage he wanted to wipe his entire community and never succeeded, nature destroyed his   works and he said if he Iyalla did not succeed in this then no man born of a woman can destroy or conquer  his kingdom Tombia. He then proceeded to ambush the kalabaries in their  popular market , but before then he warned   his brothers to stay clear from that market yet the ones that refused  fell  victim, also this fear of external aggression  made the kalabari people including the anger that  a slave boy and stranger as at then  will be there king( they sold their birth right to Amakiri who is not originally a kalabari man.  If only is the fear of the bonny people  the kalabari people would have remained at Elem kalabari, because the Tombia people who also settled the bonny people was always there to defend them.  ‘Three city state of Kalabari and other smaller communities ‘ is a political arrangement in the early 1940s to be relevant politically and also to deprive other smaller communities like soku, ifoko  etc there right and resources, today these things are causing a lot of problems because these communities are getting civilize as the day goes by.
Point of other cawthorne channel is not community as claimed as one of the  kalabari community,Rather owned by Tombia. now when simingi  visited Tombia in  1992 one thing he predicted was the crisis in Tombia, and that Tombia will also regain all her lost plantation , lands, rivers,  oil wells and blocks ,glories etc from the kalabari and bony people, well not having trust on an idol but believe me these things are coming to reality with an irresistible force than can not be explained…….  Ajuko na ebeji.     Wo
                                                                                           Ajuko na ebeji.      Wo
Ajuko na ebeejina bobo    wo  wo  wo……
That is the great and ancient dynasty slogan of the  great Tombia Kingdom.
A proud son of Tombia Kingdom

Tombia owned Kalabari is new to me, That Bakana is now known as Igbanibo Ama. That Odum is another name for Iyalla, News to me

@Kiwi and co, I think its about time u people quit spreading ur lies and mis-informations.

I am from Northern Igbo land and also claim Eastern Igbo land / Ibibio as well. Please I have never heard about Kalabari raiding us or any hatred against Kalabari due to slave raids. You raided who? What exact Igbo community did you raid, Ikwerre, Eche, Ndoni, or what? Your issue might be with the neigboring Southern Igbo clans or tribes but not with entire Igbo nation because u don't share any direct boundary with Western, Northern and Eastern Igbo groups. The last I checked before the arrival of the Europeans different Igbo tribes were independent of each other and still are but to a lesser extent. The Abam raided neighboring clans and were working for the Aros are mercenaries so the idea that slave trade was solely btwn the Kalabari or Ijo and Europeans is BS. Modern day Igbos don't even mention Kalabari or Ijo when talking about slavery but Arochukwu. The idea that u are resented or hated due to ur role during slavery is damn lie. Also Igbos who had direct access to rivers, streams, equally knew how to swim and navigate riverine areas. I don't understand why folks like u act like u are the only ones who lived near rivers, lakes, etc. Are u telling us that no Igbo man knew how to swim? LOL. Igbo communities from Asaba to Onicha, to Eastern and Southern Igbo land navigated their rivers. There were movements btwn Anioma to Onicha through the River Niger. If not there won't be Igbos on both sides of the Niger River speaking same language but ofcourse different dialects. Imo river, Oguta lake, etc are also areas with riverine Igbo people. You are not the only ones who have access to rivers.

What Igbos I know hate about you is your damn treacherous activities during the war not slavery. If its about slavery then Aros, Abam, people would be hated as well.

Evacuation of Bakana had nothing to do with the Igbo as a group coz Biafran army consisted of non-Igbo as well. The last I checked Effiong was second in command and he was Ibibio not Igbo. Evacuating the town may not have been the smartest thing to do but we all know it has nothing to do with hatred towards Kalabari people coz if it was about that the Biafran army would have just wasted you lot with bullets instead wasting their damn time evacuating u. Your town was closer to the ocean and closer to arrival of Nigerian troops so it made sense that they chose Bakana not Arochukwu or Ikot Ekpene. Its unfortunate lives were lost during the evacuation but to blame that on Igbos is stup!d. U need to get that out of your head. Awka ppl also evacuated Awka town. U think people didn't die? People die when there is evacuation of such magnitude.
The name Biafra was suggested by an Ijo man, Frank Opigo so quit spreading ur stup!d idea that Biafra was an Igbo project. Yes Igbos were majority. Ogoni ppl also fought for Biafra regardless of the fact that one of their most prominent sons betrayed Biafra and later apologized when he realized his mistakes years later.
Many Ibibios fought fiercely for Biafra. Ikot Ekpene town put up stiff resistance and Effiong asked for more re-enforcements but Ojukwu didn't grant it and that has remained a major source of disagreement btwn the two.
Saro Wiwa also called Biafra an Igbo empire but took those words back before he was executed by the same Northern soldiers he worked for against Biafra thinking he was bringing Igbos down.
There are Kalabari people who are mixed with Igbos and the idea that they are forbidden from acknowledging that is a damn lie. I know Kalabari ppl who have told me their great-grand mothers are Igbos sef so its not a damn secret or a taboo. If there is no link btwn Kalabari and their neighboring Igbo communities then how could there be any marriage or are u gonna tell us that Kalabari raided those Igbo communities for wives? Don't you have women in Kalabari or is Kalabari a town made up of men alone so that explains why u had to go marry the Igbos who hate u so much.

Riverine communities including the Igbo ones have always had a tradition of marrying upperland Igbos from areas like Umuahia so there has to be a link. Whether u turn Kalabari by force or choice does not erase your DNA. Igbos who married your people also brough with them their culture and influenced the Kalabari they married. No one totally letz go of their language and culture especially when proximity is so close. It was marriage not slavery and even slaves influence. The Igbo migrants and slaves turned Opobo and Bonny islands into Igbo outposts. Igbo language and culture is dominant in those areas.

There are links btwn Aro-Igbo and Ibibio, Abiriba-Igbo and Efik,
Kalabari and upperland Igbos, Igbanke-Igbos and Bini, etc. It doesn't kill to admit the freakin truth and move on.

Now u betrayed Biafra and what did u gain? Slavery? Being a slave to anyone is never a good thing so to say that u will rather be a slave to Nigeria FG seems stup!d and ignorant coz either way u still gonna be a damn slave in your land. Its funny that the same issues Biafra fought for that some of you who fought against is now what u are fighting and getting killed for now.

God Bless Biafra and the Kalabari and Ijo, Igbo, Ibibio, Ogoni, people who sacrificed their lives for it.

KALABARI did not raid Igbo towns but like some how were seen by the Igbos as angels or some superior beings, The Igbos gave out their people willingly to Kalabari chiefs for some European goods and alcohol. Human trading started in that manner before Europeans took advantage of it. That was the kind trade going on for like 100 or more years before JAJA ( JUBO JUBO AGHA ) meaning somebody is not another person, You are you and you are not another person was acquired by the Bonny King. It was not by raiding, Raiding was among the Ijaws were pirates attack villages to steal slaves or attack boats carrying slaves at night and these pirates were Ijaws of Kalabari/ Okrika/ Bonny / Bille / Nembe,

The creeks or rivers in Igbo land were not in a good use by the Igbos and no Igbo ever used it to enter Ijaw land at that time. ABOH along the River Niger is the last Igbo town Oguta lake may not even have a normal river linking to the main river Niger. it may just be a lake wholly surrounded by Oguta land. just as Ijaw people never cultivated yam although we have land was how Igbos never caught fish in their azumini and oguta lake,

Yes Bakana was evacuated by the Biafrans and the reason was to make the whole of that area Igbo, the streets of PORT HARCOURT and Diobu were all changed to Igbo names with no one single one having Ijaw name. the name BAKANA was changed to Odurogwu ( ODUROGU ) and the idea was to bring Igbos to settle there while the BAKANA people were taken to Chococho or so,

Opigo suggested the name BIAFRA even before ADAKA BORO declared the Niger delta republic. Oigo,s Biafra was not for the entire Eastern region but for the Ijaw enclave of the Niger delta . Opigo was not a part of the Ojukwu declared Biafra, Ojukwu rather used the Niger delta idea to buy them over by using the name BIAFRA, BIAFRA had got nothing to do with Igbo,

Igbos marry Yorubas and Hausas and even CAMEROUNIANS and not Ijaws alone and the igbo language in Bonny and Opobo were as a result of reason, The Ibani at that time due to their war with their neighbours of KALABARI AND ANDONNI refused to teach the Igbo slaves the IBANI language for fear the slaves would understand their secrete and expose Bonny to KALABARI and Andonni. Igbo language became the language of the people since interaction was mainly in igbo as the Ibani was forbidden to be used with the freed Igbo slaves, In KALABARI a secrete cult was formed to enforce KALABARI language and culture where people who could not speak KALABARI were killed instantly. KALABARI even has more Igbos than Bonny but were all assimilated and forced to learn KALABARI dialect. The Igbos were insignificant compared to the natives of Bonny and KALABARI. tHEY MAY JUST BE 5% of the population.

The last person I will listen to in terms of history is the self hating bigot killayut aka Tom Briggs so keep it moving. You write nothing but crap. Which one is Ochococho? Kiwi who was around during the war said Bakana ppl were moved to Igbo heartland. Where is Ochococho in Igbo land? What the heck does that even mean? U need to quit making up stories and step out the way. There was nothing Odorogwu or whatever u are making up. Bakana town was never occupied by Igbo people since most parts of Southern Rivers state / PH were already evacuated. My parents were in PH and also had to evacuate before the fall of those areas. You make no damn sense because if Igbo ppl wanted to get rid of Bakana ppl they would have just killed them all not relocate them. Bakana was used by the military. I am certain they did for good of them. Why would the military be fighting in areas where they are civilians? U have to move them out of the way to reduce risk of collateral damages and unneeded deaths of civilian ppl so the evacuation was justified and not done out of spite or to kill them off or make Bakana Igbo land. What the heck is so significant about Bakana?
Igbo ppl in riverine areas swam, fished and used their water. U must be an idi0t to suggest that somehow they didn't have the mental capacity to know what to do with water or how to navigate simple water. Yeah u knew how to fish in the Indian ocean yet still remain poor, destitute and in perpetual bondage. Biko keep it moving.

I said Chococho and not OCHOCOCHO and Chococho is an Igbo town in Rivers state just by the Imo river North of Oyigbo and again my statement said I am not sure. But there was an obvious evacuation of BAKANA people by BIAFRA to Igbo land, Igbos could not have done that cos BAKANA was not alone. Bakana people are KALABARI and KALABARIS are Ijaws so figure out what would happen to Igbo Biafra if they had chosen to kill out the BAKANA people, so STOP forcing your IGBO on the IJAWS and learn to be the IGBO that you are, It will pay you more to be IGBOa than to drag KALABARIS along, Idiot OBAMA has Kenyan blood does not make AMERICA a KENYAN enclave.
Re: Kalabari People! by Nobody: 4:51pm On Oct 04, 2011
The Significance of BAKANA then was the Bonny river. Ofcourse BAKANA people controlled that river at the Diobu end of Port Harcourt and up to the present day EAGLE island to parts of Rumulumeni exactly where SAIPEN is today belong to the BAKANA Ijaws, so to the Biafrans evacuating the Main BAKANA heartland and bringing in Lost Igbos who were settled mainly in Port Harcourt would make the place Igbo land,

@killayut.I highly doubt if you are actually a Kalabari.Kalabari people are educated and usually engage in meaningful dicussions.A lot was learnt about Kalabari on this thread until you invaded the thread with Igbo hate.

Chokocho is in Etche LGA,Rivers State. That is where Amaechi wanted to relocate the illegal occupants of Diobu slum until the whole thing was tribalised by people like killayut.

So the true Kalabari people should come back and revive this interesting thread.
