Career / Re: House, I Am Confused by Thattallgirl(f): 2:51pm On Oct 12, 2023
Are there no single rooms you can get in Ajah that's very cheap till you complete what you wanna do? Must it be flat?
Saviourplease:
Good evening house.

I am in a dilemma and I need advice on what to do.

A bit of background about myself: I am a 29 years only child from a very poor background. I work for an IT firm which i joined in 2019 as a graduate trainee.

My total income is around 490k (400k from main job, 90k from a writing side gig).

My challenge:
Recently, My host have told me to look for my accommodation and I have been searching for houses. Unfortunately, the places closer to my places of work is expensive.

I work in VI and the cheapest mini flat I have seen in close vicinity is 1.2M at Ajah.

I also have have a building project I am undertaking in the village that is at roofing stage and my parents have been pressuring me to settle down as the only child.

My dilemma is this, If i go for the house at Ajah, it will eat a bulk of my savings, thereby making it impossible for me to complete the building project or even start the process of settling down.

If I go for a cheaper but farer location, I will be spending more time in traffic.

Please, how do I manage this?

HRprof:
My trip to Singapore

As promised to share my trip experience I arrived Singapore from Lagos yesterday

Let me first start with the information on how I got my visa for others to learn. Meanwhile some of the information regarding visa I got them in this forum and also on the Singapore visa site online.
I Arranged my documents with passport heads to the Singapore embassy Abuja where my visa was processed.

Lst of documents
- Visa application form printed and filled
- reference form filled by a citizen or permanent resident in Singapore.
- passport photo
- international passport
- flight reservations
- hotel reservations

Meanwhile you must submit your documents 30 days to your plan arrival date. I didn’t know about this and I went to the embassy 2 months to my plan trip but pleaded they should keep my passport and documents till 1 month to my trip date to start processin
I googled many laws of Singapore and honestly, I so much love every single one of them no matter how strict. I only wish we can be as disciplined as that.

Good evening, or good morning, depending how where you are.

I'll be reading through this topic from the second page, singe I've read the first to completion.
Praying in the spirit is good and I hear that it is better because the devil won't hear or understand what you are telling God through the Holy Spirit. But what if you can't pray in tongues? I can't. Till now. Doesn't mean our regular prayers may encounter opposition and delay? Just like Daniel's prayers were being opposed for more than 20 days.

I'm trying to get back to my old praying ways and renew my relationship with the lord. When is it that this gift of tongues comes upon a person? Even after being baptized (water and Holy Spirit baptisms) Or, maybe it's not for every christian to be able to speak, hence why it's called a " gift " ...? Or am I getting it wrong

Thanks.

Hi! Receiving the gift of tongues is quite easy. I'd want for you to watch this short video and receive this gift πŸ‘‡. I began praying in tongues after watching this video for the first time.

https://www.facebook.com/josephprince/videos/726877781196899/?mibextid=rS40aB7S9Ucbxw6v

You can also Google "praying in tongues Joseph Prince" and watch short videos on benefits of praying in the Spirit and more deeper truths concerning it.

Your prayers in English or known language counts. With what I've learned, it's like going to the last floor either through stairs or elevator. You'll get to your destination faster with the elevator and relaxed.

It's for every christian if they want to receive this gift. It can't be earned, you just need to simply receive. Watch the video and other videos and I'm sure your questions will be answered.

Religion / Re: 8 Important Ways We Can Live in Faith As Christians. by Thattallgirl(f): 9:58am On Jun 11, 2023
Whereas the centurion who Jesus told had great faith didn't do all that is written above. He simply saw Jesus in His grace (undeserved favor), that Jesus is willing and able to heal his servant, and that He is filled with love. The centurion wasn't even a Jew...he wasn't versed in the ten commandments or other laws and rules in Israel.
The same thing with the woman Jesus commended that she had great faith. Stop listing rules and regulations that Jesus Himself didn't put on people when He was on earth in order for their faith to increase.
Education / Re: FG Bans Underage Candidates From Taking Common Entrance Exams by Thattallgirl(f): 9:30am On Jun 05, 2023
It's simple:
1. Make the curriculum in primary, secondary and university levels into the current world standard. You can't test "intelligent" students based on our current curriculum.
2. Provide programs in the university for child prodigies no matter their age. There should be a certain test or tests that average intelligent students will most likely not pass except child prodigies with very high IQ.
3. If universities can't accept underage kids, there should be a unique school(s) for child prodigies only or for intelligent children who can meet the academic requirements. Children in these schools will most likely finish school earlier than others...and they will be surrounded by children their age as well who are equally as intelligent as they are.
4. Averagely intelligent students should go through the normal process OR take examinations in other classes if he or she can.
5. Hopefully no more ASUU strike lol.
6. Employers really should stop the 21 or 24 age requirement.

Banning children below certain age and without the necessary things put in place is just too backward.

Knowing their mother tongue is what parents and grandparents are there for. If one chooses a career path that is based just here in Nigeria then learning other Nigerian languages is important...but if you choose a career that can take you anywhere in the world, it's wise for such person to be able to speak at least one foreign language. You never know when you may need it.

I wish Nigerian universities will make it compulsory for every student to choose a foreign language to learn while in the university.

Yorubas aren't denying him cos of his mom or because of his wife. Some aren't even denying him cos of his inability to speak Yoruba fluently. The reason they're denying him is because he's more on the side of his mother than the side of the state he's contesting in based on his previous tweets. I've not seen any Yoruba person that uses the word "Afonja" to another Yoruba person. It's usually a word used by other tribes to insult Yorubas.

I was recently introduced by a friend to some therapist family friend of his in Lagos. I followed the guys work at tcmacademy and discovered he was homeschooled at some point and still turned out okay contrary to what i believed. It was university that had him going out of home. The couple are always calm looking like the stress of daily life never gets to them. They decided to homeschool their four kids in 2019 and it looked like heaven was going to fall. When covid hit us, their kids were simply chilling as that was their norm. They go fishing weekends, hiking, church on Sunday, all four in karate class, speak 2 foreign languages each, travel once a year for 1 week exchange programs with their mum and 4 teachers coming in daily to teach them except Fridays where the whole house turns into a game den from morning to night . From the smart TV in their house to the devices all around, everything has been turned into learning devices. Their 4 and 7 yr old's pass by shouting questions at their age-restricted AMAZON kindle fire tab. Alexa what is this, Alexa show me that. These parents are young but made a choice many were afraid to. The funny thing is that these kids can discuss topics even some of us are afraid to discuss with our kids in school.

I don't need to go too far to tell you that even when my guy showed me the overall term results they had to improve on, it could pass for excellent in some schools. Parents! Parents! be confident in your decisions to homeschool your kids, The world around you is changing. As you train yours, not everyone puts in that effort to train theirs.

KingLennon:

So you're saying that it is the 'unto the Lord' part that is causing these problems?
Whether a couple marries right or not, as long as they're married, it's Jesus that should be the centre of their marriage.

In every christian marriage, these verses are well known but the question is that do they see Jesus in that marriage that in everything the wife/husband is doing, he/she is doing it for Jesus because the wife knows how much Jesus loves her and she's able to submit to Him and also find the strength to submit to her husband, and the husband knows how much Jesus loves Him that He gave His life for him, and as such will find the strength to love his wife the way Christ loves him...or do they just focus on "doing" their part and telling the other person to also do their part which may lead to exhaustion and sometimes bitterness.

So yea, the love Jesus has for us isn't preached enough that couples will be able to draw from that love and flow in their responsibilities towards their spouse. That's why that last part in those verses should have more emphasis instead of the "submit to your husband" or the "love your wife" parts. People have been hearing about the first parts of those verses and still marriages are breaking.

You and your wife have that strength to be able to hold on to that instruction which is great but not everyone can be like that. Others need to know just how much they're loved by their Abba before they can love or submit to another person. It is God Himself who works in us to do His good pleasure.

We are saying the same thing sis...
Not really. Usually when those verses are quoted, they always remove that "unto the Lord". Without them knowing, responsibilities that are supposed to flow as a result of beholding Jesus won't flow. People will begin to struggle and depend on their own efforts to keep a marriage together which will wear them out. But when that last part is quoted, subconsciously, the women will want to submit to their husbands just like they submit to Jesus, and the men will want to love their wives as Jesus loves the church and gave His life for the church.

Do you want a successful marriage? Wives submit to your husbands and husbands love your wives (Eph 5:22-25). It's a principle that must be obeyed to enjoy your marriage..

That's the secret why our own parents married till old age until social media came.....
You're forgetting the last part of those verses. "...as unto the Lord". If a woman can submit to Jesus, she'll find strength to submit to her husband not because of the husband but because of Jesus. And if a man knows how much Jesus loves the church and gave His life for the church, the husband will find the strength to love his wife like Jesus loves the church. The third party there is Jesus and I feel people are forgetting Him in their responsibilities and focusing on themselves only.

Lol almost confusing that I gave two wrong answers cheesy If you bought it $800 and sold it $1000, you would surely gain $200. But selling it at the rate of $1100 means that you borrowed extra $100 from somewhere else like the guys in the eleventh and twelfth comments after me mentioned. So if you gained $200 from the last transaction ($1100 and $1300) you have to return the $100 you borrowed that gave you $1100. So your gain is actually $100. Lol terrible businessman.

My final final answer is $100 lol.

Youve said it all. These school owners are only protecting their own interests, not because they really care.

As for the exams, they are not made to retake it. It will just be there in the records but they will pass. I've never seen a child repeat in my years of teaching. As in... You can't make a child repeat a class even when it's glaring he didn't pass and doesn't deserve to be promoted. The parents will withdraw the child and because the school doesn't want to lose pupils, they'll just promote. Parents that even come to ask for double promotion for their wards and the school will grant it? The system is really messed up.
Wow. If I were a school owner, I'd want to be proud of the fact that parents line up to enroll their kids into my school and that we even turn some away cos of the number of students we already have per class. I'd want both students and parents to know that if the students do not take their academics (both academic and non-academic subjects) seriously, they'll either be asked to retake the exam during the holidays or they'll be suspended or repeat the class, but that students who get enrolled in my school are well trained and are brilliant or end up becoming brilliant due to our methods, and are well equipped with different skills to survive out there even if they're unable to attend university. Some parents may wanna threaten to remove their kids if I don't favor them, and I'd be like "please take your child away. I only want serious students even if they're few". But that means either my school fees are high or I have other things doing to fund the school cos education is a great thing to invest in. Sadly, that isn't the case for many school owners.

I was actually thinking in the direction of conducting test weekly to see if that would bring about improvement and instil seriousness in them but then I considered the timing because as a visiting teacher, I am time bound and only go once in a week. So I may not be able to meet up with scheme and timing. Will look into though and see if I can manage it. [quote] If it's something you can do please do.

[quote] The frown against discipline in schools these days is getting too much. You are not allowed to discipline anymore. The children know this and are now capitalizing on it to misbehave and be disobedient to the teachers.

Thanks dear. Will look into that weekly test.
That's why majority of the blame goes to the school owners. The students can't try that rubbish with a well reputed strict school.
You're welcome.

Wow great! That's a good one. Anyways, I teach diction and phonetics subject.

Thanks for stopping by, dear
With everything you wrote, to me the school shares most of the blame...the school owner and the person in charge of the day to day activities in the school including the director. It's like some school owners do not know what having a school should be all about. I feel some schools aren't strict anymore in terms of discipline (not talking about flogging). Every parent should provide textbooks for the kids as a requirement into any new class.

I don't know how it's done in the school you teach but when a child scores an F in a subject, what happens? Is the child given an opportunity to rewrite the exam during holidays with a different set of questions? If the child, due to lack of seriousness still doesn't perform well, is it suspension that comes next or the child will repeat the class? Or it's just going to be in the record and that's all?

Why choose a different curriculum from the one the Lagos government offers when you cannot continue with it even up to exam? Why condone students who won't follow rules by not doing assignments and still allow them enter the school premises? Well, I guess it's because of money. They want to keep impressing the parents so that they won't remove their children from the school.

When parents and students know how strict the school is and that they have a very good reputation in building students, I doubt they'd behave the way they are doing. About attention in the classroom, I wonder when schools will allow teachers give short tests at the end of each class everyday, based solely on what was taught in that particular period. Each tests could carry 3 marks or so and make up for the entire test scores per term. Reduce the 60 marks given to exam cos it just makes students cram and pour. Raise the F grade to 50 marks or 60 marks. Give more emphasis on daily tests and midterm tests and practicals. Let's see if students won't be forced to pay attention and jot down when need be.

Honestly there's a lot to say and I understand how annoying it is for you as a teacher.

Ok..
I get it now.

Yess.
All Pre-Primary stages are developmental stages., and thus, the kids at this stage shouldn't be stressed unnecessarily in order to meet some certain standards, or to feel some form of comparisons with the development of the other kids in the same class.

Just like I earlier mentioned inside this very thread about the Norwegian Methods of Pre-School learning.
They don't stress the kids with formal/standard education systems until they are 6years., then the kids would start with Primary-1.
Yea that's right!
