En, Ukraine joining EU would benefit them, but it would be disadvantageous to Russia. Ukraine simply need to negotiate with Russia, agree to give up the benefit of joining EU in exchange for receiving some benefits from Russia. The only now is whether the Ukrainian president is truly the puppet of the west, in which case he would never agree to give in to Russia no matter the benefit they propose. If the US secretly intervene in the negotiations, the Ukrainians will not give in to Russia.
