Nice one, welcome to Canada.

Another con of coming too early is the challenge of getting a house close to school. Most leases end around August, December, April/May.

However, for students coming in fall, come about a month to your start date because most schools always have the highest intake this period. The one month before school starts will give you enough time to look for a good place to live in and gives you enough time to apply for jobs in advance.

In some cities, getting jobs might take up to 2 months.

Thanks,

I think this is very informative.

Qudkom:

1. You start paying for accommodation pretty early.
2. You might be questioned especially if you haven't traveled before
3. Most students come in August so getting people to go house hunting with might be a concern because obviously the people here are already settled so you have to get a place for yourself alone
4. You don't have some benefits like bus pass since you haven't registered at school and classes haven't started yet. So getting a bus pass which might be expensive may be the best.
5. I hear it's inappropriate to work before your program starts also. Etc....

Many thanks,

Biggest issue looks like accommodation and financing untill school begins.

This is helpful.

Yep September decided to come in earlier. 2 months out max is fine and you should have a convincing reason. It comes with advantages and Con's

Goodmorning,

Please could you elaborate on the bolded. What sort of cons can one aspect?

Thank you.

Good morning house. Please I’d like to know what chances are of getting my visa considering the fact that I don’t have a travel history.

Goodmorning,

You have a great chance of securing a visa without a travel history (talking from personal experience).

Lack of travel history as part of a delayed visa is a generic thing and comes with other reasons.

So, you can go ahead with your application process.

Hope this helps?

Hi Good day all,
I applied for a study visa and I was told to do the medical last week from the embassy.
I’ve seen that I passed the medicals.
Can I be rest assured my Visa will be approved ?
And how long does it take get a decision after this ?

Goodmorning,

Being requested by the embassy to undergo a medical examination is a good update, and as such, it's a big step towards a TRV.

I'll encourage you by saying that you are very close to an approval.

Decisions can take from a few days to weeks.. Buh, have faith for the best report and go on with your daily commitments.

Hope this helps.

Good day all, am about to apply for my study permit, but my program has an unpaid work requirement, which requires me to apply for a co-op work permit.

Please do I apply separately?

Goodmorning,

You are to apply for a student permit, if you're using the online route, you'll asked during the application if you would need a co-op permit, tick yes at that point.

Hope this helps.

Hi Chief,

Don't forget that at the airport, you might have to show "proof that you have enough money to support yourself during your stay in Canada".

That could include statements of accounts, etc.

Declaring such a small amount might invite a more thorough questioning of your finances.

Thank you,

I won't forget, I personally don't like plenty funds on me thats why. I have the necessary documents to prove my financial commitments towards my stay.

You're welcome.

$250 is very okay - should cover for your taxi, stop-over breakfast or lunch and in-flight specials, if you ever need one.
Don't allow any person to bully or con you at the airport oooo (typically for first-time travelers from Naija). Simply tell them that all the money you will ever require for your trip is on your Visa/Mastercard.

Safe trip!

Thank you very much. smiley

I noticed that no one has answered your question and I guess you haven't been an avid reader of this forum. Co-Op doesn't guarantee study visa approval but you'll get to work full time while studying. Imagine working 40hrs/week unlike those without Co-Op who are mandated to work for just 20hrs/week. I think another good reason is that you might be lucky and possibly gain full time employment after graduation depending on how well you play your cards.....Others can throw more light if you aren't satisfied. smiley

Goodevening,

I'll like to correct the bolded, a co-op permit means you'll have a semester or so (depending on the institution or course) where you will need to work as part of your program requirements (a good example is the SIWES program done in Nigeria), it is only applicable during that term and not during your normal school hours (that remains 20hrs per week during school hours and 40hrs during scheduled breaks).

Every other thing seems in other.

Hope this helps?

Thank you.

Hi, why not look directly at civil engineering vacancies in various cities, the requirements for the jobs posted and also research the requirements to be licensed as an engineer in each/your target province?

This is a more realistic way to gauge the prospects and what you require to know and do in order to succeed. Knowing where there are the most opportunities and what is required to attract hiring managers is a targeted approach in addition to building a network of people who can guide and refer you. To learn how to cook, one needs to enter the kitchen smiley All the best.

Thank you buddy,

This is really insightful.

POE; your correspondence letter, letter of admission and SOA
Immigration officer may ask where would you stay? name of school, course and length of program.

Personally, I think I had about 3500 Canadian dollars cash on me on arriving Canada.
You don't need to have so much cash on you though.

Thank you.....

Please Landed Folks, is there a particular range of funds you should have as BTA when you travel? And please even though it's been said before, please could you give POE tips for first time travellers (this is aside the 10k Dollars that you must declare)

In what way(s) did the person say province of choice plays a role?

Hello...

It was a passing statement, I was curious as to why two people would provide almost the same papers but one would be delayed and another approved... So, one of the things I was told was the Province you apply to plays a part in the process to... No particular reasons though... I had gotten my TRV so I didn't dwell much on the subject...

I just wanted to throw it to the house so as to facilitate better perspective on the matter for future applicants.

I'm not 100% confident about this but we could research on it......

Thank you.....

YES....

So, I was talking about the study permit with a friend who is a Permanent Resident.

I was told that the Province you apply to study also plays an important role in your study permit application.

Can this be varied by others so as to educate new study permit applicants on the way forward.

Thank you....... smiley

I think you are missing the point here, this thread is here for people to share their experiences to help others AND when you make mistake openly others will correct you but this is not the case with private conversation, imagine what will happen if everybody contributing here goes private? This thread will die naturally.

Don't take whatever you read here as absolute truth, do your own research earch and ask questions

If you had said this initially, no one would have complained... We understand... Just communicate better when issues arise....

Glad you created this thread though...... smiley
