Seen one of his vids only once, but his message seemed to me to be in two parts, one tending towards the whole "grass is not necessarily greener on the other side, look before you leap" kind of stuff, and the other part tending towards that "obodo oyibo hard, make una no come, Nigeria better" message straight out of the 70s when our parents' generation were here and struggled with not only racism which was more virulent and widespread then, but also the mess the UK was in the late 70s and early 80s, as well as managing their average of 4 children with little or no help and were looking forward to going home to pick up the safe and pensioned civil service jobs literally thrown at people with a degree of any sort.

The first part of that message holds true always, unfortunately the second not at all as Nigeria of the 70s and 80s was a viable option to the UK; in the 2020s.......

I need to ask a question in regards for this. The divorce paper is something she can get from her local govt. I don’t think it is an issue to that extent. They wl issue it out within a couple of days. And if no context ,they know how to arrange it. If properly arrange, no cause for alarm. Anybody can divorce anyone at a fucking time. I don’t think UK student visa has time to go and look for ur divorce paper anywhere. My opinion

This is untrue.
Divorce decrees are only granted in court and not by local governments. One has to file a formal petition to dissolve a marriage and a lawyer will have to be involved. No other way to dissolve a marriage validly contracted under the Marriage Act.

Wow , divorce letter in a local govt ? How , when and why pls ? It’s easy to actually identify a fake divorce letter , very easy . UKVI isn’t stupid . What judge would sign it ? What judge would affix their personal stamp and seal . Pls don’t advise Anyone to do this , they’d get caught and get banned . I can spot a fake divorce letter anywhere , now imagine an immigration officer . Each page of that divorce decree will have an originality stamp of the judge , CTC stamp of the high court . The high court is the proper place and to get a divorce from a statutory marriage , you need to institute an action in court as the petitioner and respondent. The court has to be satisfied that the marriage has irretrievably broken down.

Just so you know , Lagos state has a filing system that makes it easy to verify validity of documents . Court documents authenticity can be verified easily pls .

You need a formal divorce before you can remarry formally.

I dont remember how the automatic stamping comes out, whether it comes out on every page or not (I think it did), but however it comes out, you can use it.

There's also the so-called Gestapo shock treatment - if you are sleeping and someone wakes you suddenly with a loud noise (or in the Gestapo's case, probably a slap across the face), the language you speak then is the language you dream and think in and is usually your native language.

For instance, if you woke me suddenly like that, I'd say "What is it?!!". My Igbo grandmother on my mother's side, originally from the Owerri area but who spent years living in both Enugu, then Ibadan and Lagos and speaks fluent Yoruba and the Anambra dialect as well as English, will probably exclaim "O nini?" in her Owerri dialect. And so forth.

I think you should be careful here, find out whether the certificate issued by the church which usually from LGA registry is accepted, my school specifically emphasized that it should be the certificate issued from the federal government i.e Ministry of Interior.....I may be wrong but just be carefull....

Agreed that some churches are not licensed to conduct marriages by the Ministry of Interior.
But if your place of worship does not have a valid federal license for that purpose and you got married there, you are still married, albeit in a customary marriage under Nigerian law, a marriage which is still legal and recognised nonetheless.
You can't now go to Ikoyi registry and get married again, unless there is a specific workaround for that.
I know two people who had this issue and they presented the paperwork they had and it went through.

In the UK, Constructive dismissal is when you jumped before you were pushed i.e. you resigned yourself when the conditions became unbearable because of bad treatment from your employer or its agents (i.e managers or colleagues) for instance if your manager in the UK calls you a Black bastard and you have proof or witnesses and there have been other instances that made you suspect that the said manager doesn't like you because of your race and non-subservience and you have been with that employer for at least 2 years and you and your spouse have indefinite stay then you can resign immediately and take the employer to an employment tribunal and you WILL win a case of Constructive Dismissal with a payout that "could" be a multiple of your annual salary depending on your length of service but take heed because such cases may drag on for years during which time you still have bills to pay !!!!!!

So, your wife's best bet is NOT TO RELOCATE OR RESIGN but to first go off sick if the victimization becomes unbearable and then go back and fight it out with them BUT ensuring she sticks to the contents of the organizations employee hand book (which she must devour during her time off sick) but she should NOT relocate to a different city and should NOT resign as the devil you know is better than the angel you don't know. she has no guarantee that a new job in a new city will be any better and at worst she should start looking for a job in the same Norwich but never resign before getting a new job as [b] it is easier to get a job whilst you are still in one and any gaps on your CV WILL be used against you in the UK.[/b][i][/i]

If, bad as e bad, one must resign and face the prospect of an employment history gap, either volunteer somewhere, or reinvent yourself as a consultant and find a relevant training course, pay and dive into it immediately, or travel back to Naija to patriotically volunteer to help the overstretched and underfunded health service there with your newly acquired/refined in the UK skills during the Covid crisis or travel back to Naija to look after your very sick father/mother/beloved sibling/grandparent on the point of death for a couple of months.

Really? It's just a 2 day interval. Sending in applications the same day doesn't necessarily mean the visa/outcome will be made known on the same day so you might want to consider saving your 42,000 naira.

So, its the fetishness some Nigerians abroad indulge in that i am calling out. If you visit a lot of barber shops and Naija restaurants / beer parlours in areas of London densely populated with Nigerians, sit down and just spend some time listening to people, you will marvel at what some Nigerians in London get up to and[b] all indications are that Nigerians in manchester and Ireland are probably worse than the ones in london.

I hear and see a lot of things as Nigerian restaurants and Beer Parlors used to be like a second home to me[i] (and probably still is) [/i] as I've not cooked since I came back from Naija in 2008 and because I work very long hours and don't have my first meal until after work, I spend quite a lot of time in Nigerian Restaurants over the past 13 years and some of the things I've seen and heard about Nigerians in London is better left imagined and being that London never really used to be like this 20 something years ago, I'm always comparing and contrasting the Nigerians in London then versus some of the ones I meet now.

I've had my UK driving license for decades but if you gave me a car now, I would sell it as I live in London, do not have young kids and don't really need a car as there is night bus every where if I go out on a drinking session and if I'm too tired, £15 is not too much to pay for a cab back home as I don't venture too far when i go drinking.

I used to work as an Accountant in a membership Organization for Top company and council executives in central London and one of the members was a millionaire in pounds who makes money while he sleeps as his books are sold in all the international airport bookshops worldwide and one day I asked him if he had a car and he said he does not need one as there is night bus and cabs in London. And this is a millionaire in pounds !!!

I also remember as a student / mini cab driver, one of my English customers asked me how i could afford a car as he couldn't after many years of working. Oyinbo lifestyle is way simpler than ours and they do not put any form of financial pressure on themselves or onto their friends who earn les than them. They love minding their own business which we Nigerians are not good at.

if a Nigerian loses his job, next thing he will hear someone tell someone about it at the local naija restaurant in London and he never told any of the 2 parties about his job loss. Too much financial competition among Nigerians even between husband and wife. SMH.

Nigerians like showing off too much and you will see a Nigerian buying a car of £40,000 with cash and continue living in a council flat when he could have bought a good functioning car for max £5k and put the remaining £35k as a deposit on a house and own his own home.

The last time I drove in London is in 2004 and even in those days whenever I went to a club or bar, I may drive there but once I drink (on Fridays mainly) , I will park my car somewhere safe near the restaurant and come back for it on Saturday afternoon.

Your friend is lucky he did not kill someone in the accident as that used to be an automatic jail term. Also advise him to tone down his tendencies to show off his material things and earnings as there are young Chinese, Indian and oyinbo boys who earn multiples of what he earns and they will never tell their friends or enemies how much they earn and they may not even feel the need to have a car if their work and social life revolves round central London and they don't feel the need to brag to their friends about their earnings.

Mark Zuckerberg is worth $118 billion and he still hunts and kills his own meat and wears the same color T-shirt and jeans every day as he has multiples of them as he says he does not think his brain power should be used to think of color combinations every day.

Nigerians like showing off too much and this is the reason I stopped going to Nigerian parties many years ago. There was just too much of everyone bragging, boasting, eyeing themselves, showing off, pretensions and sizing up one another that I've never missed Nigerian parties at all since I stopped going. I would rather go to a restaurant and buy my own choice food and drink than to be trapped in a Nigerian party full of pretentious braggarts.

Nigerians in the UK simply imported that lousy part of our intra- and post-Babangida regime mania of feeling driven to acquire all material things possible and to "compete" with one another in the process. Whatever cohesiveness we used to have as a society fell apart from the late 80s onwards.

I've no idea if that's true or not, but that was not what I am referring to.
For instance, I grew up in Nigeria, speaking English from when I was old enough to talk, and had all my education in English.
So English is my first language and I always classify myself as a native English speaker when I'm filling forms or where the question arises.

Even those who learned our west African brand of English are native speakers. Being bilingual, like many Nigerians are, does not mean you are not a native speaker of a language. So I describe myself as a native speaker of English and Igbo, the same way a child of a Latino immigrant in the US might describe himself as a native speaker of English and Spanish.

Incidentally, the Jamaicans and other west Indians also generally speak their own brands of English too, Carribean English is not necessarily purer than west African English. Those who are educated, in both west Africa and the Carribean, can (hopefully) use Standard English properly, but the monolingual peoples of the Carribean generally do not speak English any better than we do.

My point being make we no dey use our own hand dey mislabel ourselves, oyibo is already very ready to do that.

A native speaker of a language is simply someone who has spoken that language from earliest childhood as a first language, whether that language can be considered "their" language or not. An Igbo chap who grew up in the north and speaks Hausa fluently is properly classed as a native Hausa speaker, just the same way my cousin's children who were born and brought up in Germany are native German speakers despite the non-paleness of their skin. Put simply, the language one thinks in is always the one they speak natively.
